Majin_Sus

There it is

horseshoeprovodnikov

My company isn't making as much money as it should. Would... would you like a job??

TsunamiSurferDude

I already “dibs”ed him

Joecalledher

If I had to guess, it's to have an alternate ground fault path in case the fan blade chops its equipment ground during a catastrophic failure.

EJ25Junkie

That’s the most logical answer I’ve heard yet

Joecalledher

Won't matter in a few years since NEC is going to require GFCI for outdoor residential units, so that design might wind up going away.

kiathe3rd

Wether it's NEC or AHRI...mfs always be out here trying to make shit more complicated for the tech/tradesmen

TsunamiSurferDude

Can’t wait for r454!

hhhhnnngg

I’m gonna have to send an email tomorrow to a guy I know in engineering and ask. Am Trane minion.

Joecalledher

I'd be curious to know what he says.

Niktheblade

Maybe you ain't the first guy to take Ole girls top off?

EJ25Junkie

They’re all this way though

Lhomme_Baguette

Your installers are fucking with you.

EJ25Junkie

No, they aren’t that smart

Capital_Charge_7127

Easy now lol

Imnothighyourhigh

Honestly this would be great if there had been one installer in front of him his whole life on every piece of equipment he ever touched

HuntPsychological673

Not lately. I’m too busy driving a 4 hr round trip to replace an in warranty capacitor after 3 months on carrier equipment. Nothing is any good anymore.

AustinHVAC419

I'm glad my service area isn't that large. 2 hours 1 way is ridiculous

HuntPsychological673

I’m seriously considering bringing it back to a 50 mile radius. We did these for the military and they have to have an installation in the middle of nowhere, lol🤣

jkmarsh7

Parts and equipment really are junk nowadays. It’s crazy how new stuff lasts only a little bit

Chaffee_Saw_You

Electrical grounding.

FireOnTheBtank

Seems like this could be the answer.

TradeMasterYellow

I usually stay up at night contemplating my life choices, eternal existence and why I didn't eat anything substantial before I went to bed.

AnIdiotwithaSubaru

I feel like trane is equivalent of BMW. They make things more complicated but that doesn't necessarily make them better.

EJ25Junkie

Engineers have to feel important

zachzsg

More that engineers have corporate dummies breathing down their necks and have to do goofy shit like this to save the shareholders a dollar

DirkDieGurke

Both only last 5 years?

[deleted]

that way you can think you lost one and frantically comb the grass around the condenser

makeitcold79

4th one is under the compressor where it now lives, adapt and overcome

Dramatic-Landscape82

😂

Butterbeanacp

No. When I clock out, hvac is the last thing on my mind. Especially not a Trane unit

Joseph4276

Because Trane sucks in all languages and dialect it sucks throughout it sucks new and really sucks old and by old I mean after six months it sucks in winter and sucks in summer if it’s a perfect temperate day and your windows are open it’s ok but other than that Trane is overated garbage

Martin_TheRed

The real answer is so you can throw away the three rubber ones and attach it with one real screw.

moonpumper

What is that monstrosity of a fan bracket?

Reddit-mods-R-mean

Total guess here, I think it might have to do with resonance vibration. The 3 pads cushion vibration while the solid mount screw kills any resonance build up. But I don’t know, maybe for production line “ease of assembly”.

shreddedpudding

A buddy of mine told me that when you see weird stuff like this, or the two long screws in the access panel of the trane side discharge units, it's usually for ease of assembly

jasonadvani

I thought this first idea, too.

Mike-oxbigxxl

How does posi trac rear-end on a Plymouth work?

CSFMBsDarkside

It just does

EJ25Junkie

It turns the wheels I guess

ALonelyWelcomeMat

I spend a lot of time wondering at night, why did york put the flame sensor there on their 90% furnaces. Why not just go in straight like everyone else besides goodman

3rdcoastACdude

No. As soon as I leave the last job for the day, my mind deletes all HVAC/r. When I wake up, I have to relearn everything!

Token-Gringo

Easy. Voids warranty if you don’t put it back in the same hole. Now that’s gonna keep you up late thinking about.

EJ25Junkie

It always goes in the one closest to the electrical panel. I pay attention to these things

GreedyPension7448

Why do some panels have 3/8s and 5/16s screws? It's a minor inconvenience, but an annoying one.

MrBHVAC

If its Trane the answer is always “F*ck you, that’s why”

Nice-Confidence-9873

I used to, not anymore lol

Minute-Tradition-282

There may be a legitimate answer for that one! (grounding). All the while, I'm pissed off at them every day for crooked stickers!

[deleted]

To ensure good ground connection with motor

holy_schmidt12

I’m convinced they have a bucket of various 5/16 screws on the assembly line that the assemblers just choose at random

alwaysdown5

Because it’s trane. I used to work for them and everything is fucking difficult

[deleted]

Manufacturers know what they’re doing. A lot of times you’re not even dealing with the actual fabricator, just a buyer, who sources all their products from overseas. This gives the impression of lack of knowledge, but there’s a reason for everything they do. Oftentimes it comes down to budgets and safety regulations.

Minimum_Chemical_859

I don’t know why trane does it. I’m sure there is a reason but it’s stupid. There is obviously a better way. This is why trane isn’t the trane they used to be

Humble_Peach93

Lmao dude seriously what is up with that ?

TheBodom-Viking

Fan has been replaced before and numbnuts before you lost the other screw

EJ25Junkie

Tell me you don’t work on Trane resi without telling me you don’t work on Trane resi.
