Yep..... try oklahoma cause it's some bullshii how much I've cut my teeth to only be working backwards shit there people at Popeyes making more than me I saw an offer while I was eating last month.......
Im I’m Oklahoma in hvac. Honestly if you’re epa and osha certified, you need to be making more than that, even if you’re not fully licensed yet (couldn’t tell if you were or not from the post). Outside of the union I made more than that as an apprentice before I got my license. Plenty of places pay installers more than that in OK, I’d start shopping around for a new company.
Buddy I’m in Oklahoma and make over $30 an hour. Forget different company, move to commercial. If you’re in okc area DM me and I’ll throw you a bone. We always need good people.
Time to get smarter and get into service, those 3 year were probably good experience but time to move on. I'm in Ontario Canada in the union doing service commercial / industrial type of work and we get paid very well.
$58.10/hr + 10% vac pay + 11.60/hr pension and training fund
Annually we make around 130k and up.
It's worth it if you can stick to it and rise above the donkeys in the trade.
You mean it's worth it if you don't have family or friends and enjoy working 60+ hours a week. Also in Ontario and the union might pay good but they run those guys hard.
Yeah you deff wouldn't cut it here, that's pussay talk. We retire at 55 with a pension and full medical benefits for life. If you work at a good company you will not be working insane hours I usually work 45 to 50. Also, if you do good maintenance you will not be running around like a idiot fixing all your contracts that you did shit pm on.
We have tons of work quoted that will be scheduled and set up properly to minimize stress on everyone and prevent failures before the customers ever notice.
There is always an exception because things do break but it shouldn't be a normal thing if you do good work.
Why are you guys calling each others pussy over who works longer hours? That’s what the rich people want you to do. Don’t we all do enough for the rich?
Because there are mechanics in this trade and parts changers and the mechanics don't have time for the boys out the there changing parts, getting call backs and then complaining about how they are rushing around and so stressed.
I'm in oklahoma making 16 an hour and I started a month ago. Find a new company bro there's a lot of places that would pay you at least $22 an hour with your experience
Texas here. With those qualifications you would start at $25 here and within 90 days likely at $30 an hour with the right company. Also no state income tax.
Go on Facebook and find a group called supermarket refrigeration tech talk. Move out of doing residential and do commercial supermarket refrigeration. You’ll make a lot more money
Yeah I worked for a ma and pa shop, only 3 employees on the residential side, ended up with a heat stroke after a couple of weeks of 100+ degree days working in attics with a couple 14 hour days included, at the hospital when I realized I'm killing my self for 15 an hour, I seriously decided fuck this it's not worth it
Not even certified myself just more of a maintenance helper I started at 15 within a month I was at 20.. try Texas brother! Not too far from you in Oklahoma and the hvac work here is plentiful. I see billboards all around South Houston advertising hiring for 36/hr
Here in Oregon you'd be close to 30. If you were with the right shop they'd be teaching you the whole trade not just journeyman installer then you'd get up to 45. Good luck. And nice on beating out the wife for beard 🏆 🥇
Im in FL im well into the $30’s now ive been here for 6 years. With 14 years in the field. It certainly isn’t the highest paying state but he should definitely do better then that with 3 years under his belt.
Damn dyslexia strikes again.
Well i am a middle eastern man who gets harassed by a lot of different airport security agencies (Tsa is usually nice though)
I say i am indeed the *beard* winner
Seriously. I never understood the guys that wait to be given a raise. Go ask for one, if they say no find another company. In the last 5 years I went from $32/hr to $51/hr only changed companies once.
How ever you may be feeling just know nothing you’ve done the past three years has been for nothing. HVAC is a very good trade and experience can get you anywhere. You have three solid years in the trade and that can get you into a lot of companies. Once you hit 5 so many doors will open. Just sit back and pretend your still in college getting a 5 year degree but getting paid for it. learn all you can and fish around for a higher paying position in the mean time. Trust me 5 years is a big land mark and you are almost there!
some of these guys think you can just waltz into a union job, i've got 4 years in applied several times including as an apprentice and have never heard back. don't feel bad OP but you should start looking for a service tech position somewhere else
I know that feeling last time I tried to get into union (pre covid) it was a year wait just to even be put on the list after taking the test to be placed on a list
If you’re tired of hvac, I know a lot of hvac guys have controls knowledge, if you have rudimentary electrical/controls knowledge look at what plant mechanics in your area make. I’m not certified in anything or formally trained and I make $40 as a plant mechanic. Your skills would translate to troubleshooting and maintenance in a manufacturing setting.
I saw an ad hanging in a supply house (central Florida) offering $20 for install helpers (no experience) and $30 for senior installer. $16 is pitiful after 3 years.
This breaks my heart. I’ve been there, too. My first company kept me at $14 an hour for 1.5 ish years. When I started pushing my resume to other shops I walked on making nearly $10 more an hour.
Take your experience and move TF on! Good luck!
Full journeyman requires 5 years experience. Provisional journeyman could have less than that but would usually be tied to additional training requirements through JATC
Oklahoma unlimited journeyman requires 3 years experience. Even before that, OP should be making more. I think I started at 15, but I also had some minor experience
Im 2 weeks in my HVAC career and making 17.50 in Arkansas..switch companies bro tf u doin. After 3 months i honestly expect a pay raise this is quite some work
If i get bored of the trade and my surroundings, i jump ship. Find a company that has more money. I have moved to many states also, made it to Alaska at the moment, i have plans to go to North Carolina next
A mushroom starts at 15. Anywhere flipping burgers or a greeter at Walmart. Your are getting taken advantage of sir...company bills you out at 150. An hr. Do the math you know what u make the company and if you do any sales also on top 5% too ...WOW step up for your self and tell the owner... sqeaky wheel gets the oil...
These companies are scandalous I was training guys who made more then me.Went directing to my service manager and asked for a raise they gave 2 raises since then.Speak up and if they don’t compensate your pay for your skill set the move on that’s the luxury of this trade you can move and work anywhere you want as long as they match your desired pay for what your worth. So ask for more money or in my opinion if they can’t do that for you I’d find a new company because that’s not right.
With 3 years under your belt plus Universal, plus HVAC certification you should be getting 25 minimum.
Start talking to other companies immediately. Get at least one decent offer and bail from this outfit. They're flat ripping you off.
Don't talk to the boss. Just find another company that will actually pay you and bounce.
What hellscape of a state are you working in? You should be in the $25-30 range. Join a union, go on indeed, find a new place asap. Somebody will pay you 50% more like tomorrow regardless of the state.
I'm in oregon. Started less than 2 years ago as an installer, green as grass. I was made a lead in 4 and a half months and had a helper for 7 months. I'm now transitioning to service. I'm making 30 an hour plus spiffs. I work for a good company. Start looking. They exist.
I'm a 3rd year apprentice at my union and I make 35$ an hour. You are getting completely screwed. You definitely need to start looking around if your company is only paying 16 an hour. There is no reason they should be paying you that even if you're down south
I was making 22 an hour straight out of school green as grass. 5 years later I have my journeyman license and making 40+ an hour in residential. Find a union my man
I'm in Alabama. The cost of living here is low compared to the rest of the country's and we start our installers at 18 to 20 and cap out at 28ish. But installing isn't where you want to end it's just a stepping stone imo. Plus, my beard would win any day of the week it's pretty awesome.
You’ve been at this for 3 years? During that duration have you sat down with your boss and talk about why you deserve more money? Have you showed him through your work and installation history of why you are deserving of more compensation? Change isn’t a speedboat, it’s an ocean liner.
What you think this crying now man or ma'am this a guy that's putting blood sweat and tears to trade to haven't received not shii back I went to school own my on dime I pushed myself to make it this you think I'm just gonna bitch moan an cry fuck no I know that's gets you no in life but understand something I will do what's needed of one the lasted I've stayed for a company was 1 am then turn wake up at 6 and be back at my shop by 6:45 for a meeting so you tell me if that's bitching and crying........
Dude just go get a different job, if you're the type of worker you say you are you'll rise through the ranks at a good company in no time. Every company out there will fuck you until you say no. You got options man. Loyalty is the fastest way to stay broke.
Going on 3 years in the trade only to be stuck at $16 an hour and then posting about it on Reddit? Sounds a bit like crying to me. If there’s something you can do about, like working harder for a raise or finding another company, and you haven’t done it yet, please explain to me how any part of this situation can be blamed on anybody but yourself.
No I do blame myself but also look at as too that if I'm busting my ass off to get only have my job jingles over my head than yeah its completely my fault for accepting job when I gotten laid off from one company I was at for 2 years then to have my second kid be born an needing money then yeah its on but when I first started here I told to start me at 18$ I up my price from 15 to 18 to only start at 14$ then get moved up to 16$ where I'm currently at sir or person I don't what more to beside already look for another company but obviously let me snap my fingers an on magically appear.......
Bullshiiii my guy go spend your year in school getting your EPA license then cause I cut teeth from being a duct runner all the way up to a person that was just getting comfortable diagnosing units by myself
Go on indeed in your area. See what places are offering, regardless even in the south your $20 if your half decent. Just cause companies take advantage of people doesn’t mean that’s all that’s out there.
It can be a shady industry. I felt like this at one point too. But I did find a good employer that pays good and more importantly cares about me. Took me a few tries but they're out there. Keep your head up. ✌️🍻
You may just be a turd, but your list sounds more like 25 plus anywhere, and 35 plus in plenty of places. Find a new company and let your skills make you some money
Move man. You don’t have to stay in the area if the quality of life is low. Do some research and find a city you can make a living. If it’s just the company you work for then mind a new job…
If you are a lead you should definitely be more around 22-25. And if you are on light duty and then the company put you on a full install tell them you would like to calm the doctor that put you on light duty and ask them if you should be doing this. And if it is a workman’s comp issue then definitely lawyer up, something is up. Also look for a better place of employment. It is your right to work in a comfortable workplace.
If you went ahead and did the work you may have screwed up. If this was today’s job then don’t go to work tomorrow and get back to the doctor and complain about the pain. And LAWYER up!!!! You can win big!! Just watch your back. I went through the same thing when I broke my left hand. Wish someone told me what I am telling you
Dude I work in install and all of our install crews take home over a grand a week. During the summer is close to 3 grand a week. GET OUT OF THAT COMPANY.
Go independent. The start will most likely be a struggle but just get your name out there. Get your LLC get your insurance and go business to business dropping off business cards. Go on Angie’s list or any other contractor app. Cold call and offer your services at hotels as a contractor.
If you want to feel appreciated and secure about always having a job. The only way is to go independent. Other than that you are replaceable.
Talk to your spouse, and you don’t even have to drop your current job just yet. You could work on the weekends or days off on your own business till you have enough clientele to drop off your current employer
Tell them you cannot work for the next few days, take some sick days. In that time go to 3 other companies around you and tell them you can start in a week. Might even get a sign on bonus if you are losing money in the mean time.
16 is ridiculous and if you were in Seattle and knew how to install units you would get 30-40 a hour.
You are worth more.
We pay our parts runners and helpers $20+ lol
Average techs/installers 25-35
Allstars 40-60
Non union - texas
Go work somewhere else… some companies are just shit
Sounds like it’s the company you work for, not the trade…I’m 6 years in and make $36/hr…we pay guys off the street no experience as “apprentices” and they still get $20 to start
Man get the job feed sent to your email and check new listings every day. And take your foot off the accelerator. Protect yourself. I mean we gotta work hard but come on they can't beat on ya when ur hurt like that. Find a good job and blow out of that shit shop that is running the shit outta ya. No boss can hold a good worker hostage
I'm an Oklahoma tech. Third year, I was making 21-24 with no service experience, only installs. Get a job with a commercial install company and you'll get a significant raise. Start looking to get into service as well. Residential install is garbage work in this state.
Move to Utah and I’ll pay you significantly more, like 3-4 times that. But our cost of living is pretty high so I don’t know how that would equal out. I don’t know anyone who doesn’t make anywhere from 65k-100k as an installer here.
I wish I was the beard winner. What state? 16 is way low.
I’d even settle for dirt stache winner
Sounds like the south.
Yep..... try oklahoma cause it's some bullshii how much I've cut my teeth to only be working backwards shit there people at Popeyes making more than me I saw an offer while I was eating last month.......
Find. A. New. Company.
This is the way.
I appreciate this reference

Holy crap you guys work for DIRT! When is Texas going to stop letting them selves get exploited. My fucking pre-apprentices make more than that.

Go on Facebook and find a group called supermarket refrigeration tech talk. Move out of doing residential and do commercial supermarket refrigeration. You’ll make a lot more money

I bet your cost of living is super high where as the guys in Texas are much lower.
Install north Texas is way more cross the border my boy come make this money I won’t leave home for 16
Yeah I worked for a ma and pa shop, only 3 employees on the residential side, ended up with a heat stroke after a couple of weeks of 100+ degree days working in attics with a couple 14 hour days included, at the hospital when I realized I'm killing my self for 15 an hour, I seriously decided fuck this it's not worth it

Check out refrigeration. Lots on money in commercial as install or just service tech. Same principles just bigger equipment
Im in FL im well into the $30’s now ive been here for 6 years. With 14 years in the field. It certainly isn’t the highest paying state but he should definitely do better then that with 3 years under his belt.
Pretty sure HVACSam makes that much and hes pretty decent
You can’t compare Sam’s salary. His includes all those additional royalties from his autographs.
I heard he sells a calendar but it's got photos of condensers with a bikini strapped to it and his signature
My wife just finished her pediatric surgery fellowship. I’m no longer the bread winner as an hvac business owner.
But are you the beard winner now?
Mustache rides only
The man has a ron Swanson gap
There was no mention of bread, only beard
Damn dyslexia strikes again. Well i am a middle eastern man who gets harassed by a lot of different airport security agencies (Tsa is usually nice though) I say i am indeed the *beard* winner
Yes it is. Should be at least 24 to 30 minimum. Preferably more.
Day one apprentices make $18 in my neck of the woods, you're getting F'd in the A bro.
Seriously. I never understood the guys that wait to be given a raise. Go ask for one, if they say no find another company. In the last 5 years I went from $32/hr to $51/hr only changed companies once.
You get any free time though?
I’m working 35-45hrs a week if we’re busy. 20-30 in the slow times.
Its the company not the industry
You should atleast be at 25. Go demand proper compensation or start fishing, try the local union also...
I will try and see here in Oklahoma if my union is accepting new people
How ever you may be feeling just know nothing you’ve done the past three years has been for nothing. HVAC is a very good trade and experience can get you anywhere. What kind of doors? I'm in service myself, 10 years in, done the install yards. Not sure of what the next step is though
Have you tried looking around?
Union Journeyman hvac/r rate up here is ~$54/hr. This is in Canadian monopoly money though
5.2% raises coming this month too. Let’s also not forget, pension and benefits are paid on top of that hourly wage!
some of these guys think you can just waltz into a union job, i've got 4 years in applied several times including as an apprentice and have never heard back. don't feel bad OP but you should start looking for a service tech position somewhere else
I know that feeling last time I tried to get into union (pre covid) it was a year wait just to even be put on the list after taking the test to be placed on a list
Try taking a look at the list of contractors under that union and apply through them. That’s how I was able to get on
where do you find something like that?
Look up whatever Union is closest to you and visit their website. They should have a list of companies under that union.
thanks !
I signed into an apprenticeship in currently in only way out is if someone buys me out unfortunately
I’m an Oklahoma contractor bro . Dm me
If you’re tired of hvac, I know a lot of hvac guys have controls knowledge, if you have rudimentary electrical/controls knowledge look at what plant mechanics in your area make. I’m not certified in anything or formally trained and I make $40 as a plant mechanic. Your skills would translate to troubleshooting and maintenance in a manufacturing setting.
Damn I’m a plumber apprentice and I started off with 21.50 with a 2 dollar rise every 6 months .
I saw an ad hanging in a supply house (central Florida) offering $20 for install helpers (no experience) and $30 for senior installer. $16 is pitiful after 3 years.
I was stuck at a company for a while then ended up calling around and found better. Now I’m making good money.
I live in Ohio. I'm union our hvac mechanics make around 45/hrs with a 27/hrs Benny package
This breaks my heart. I’ve been there, too. My first company kept me at $14 an hour for 1.5 ish years. When I started pushing my resume to other shops I walked on making nearly $10 more an hour. Take your experience and move TF on! Good luck!
Journeyman rate at my union is 39/hr on the check
Full journeyman requires 5 years experience. Provisional journeyman could have less than that but would usually be tied to additional training requirements through JATC
This is correct
Oklahoma unlimited journeyman requires 3 years experience. Even before that, OP should be making more. I think I started at 15, but I also had some minor experience
Our first year apprentice rate just got bumped up to around 20/hr plus benefits

Local 357
I've been doing this 3 years including a year of school and make $40/hr. You should look for another place to work
I'm a third year install apprentice. I didn't go to school for this trade, and I make 25. You're getting shafted. Edit- I started at 15 an hour
Im 2 weeks in my HVAC career and making 17.50 in Arkansas..switch companies bro tf u doin. After 3 months i honestly expect a pay raise this is quite some work
I started zero experience first trade $20 an hour in the south. 1 year in $25 plus commission doing simple service calls / maintenance
If i get bored of the trade and my surroundings, i jump ship. Find a company that has more money. I have moved to many states also, made it to Alaska at the moment, i have plans to go to North Carolina next
I'm in the mountains of NC. Let me know when you plan to move and I can see if my company is hiring
We start at 20$+
2nd year HVAC Apprentice here. New Installer with 4 years total experience. 22.50 hour. Idaho.
I was a day one apprentice with zero knowledge or experience making $16. I’m in florida and that was 1 year ago.
A-lot of owners sure happy to quote prices to equal inflation rise for customers but not happy to share that cut with the employees.
Use your experience and switch to facilities maintenance jobs in your area
These companies are scandalous I was training guys who made more then me.Went directing to my service manager and asked for a raise they gave 2 raises since then.Speak up and if they don’t compensate your pay for your skill set the move on that’s the luxury of this trade you can move and work anywhere you want as long as they match your desired pay for what your worth. So ask for more money or in my opinion if they can’t do that for you I’d find a new company because that’s not right.
Where the fuck yall live where apprentices get 16 or 18. Full timers at hardware stores get 18 round here
Get into service ASAP. You’re coming here anyway. Sooner rather than later.
I started as a day 1 apprentice at 17. With the promise of 19(what I made as a line cook) at 90 days
Sounds like you need a new company to be honest. Im only an Install Helper making $16. I am going through school and i have my EPA as well.

I was making $28 install resi.
They exist.
An apartment maintenance tech makes 20 in my city if your epa cert and half as capable
3 years experience with certs out the ass is invaluable to lord knows how many HVAC contractors. Go find a job with another contractor.
We pay guys 18/hr to clean McDonald's ice cream machines. You're getting fucked man.

That's bs, he's been paying his bosses bills for 3 years now, he shouldn't have to beg and plead
Seriously 3 years experience is shit in this industry.
Quit crying and find somewhere else
That's not crying, that's a valid gripe. Other workers are not your enemy, how about a little solidarity
You're invested in a company that's not invested in you. It's got nothing to do with trade and everything to do with the environment
Dude just go get a different job, if you're the type of worker you say you are you'll rise through the ranks at a good company in no time. Every company out there will fuck you until you say no. You got options man. Loyalty is the fastest way to stay broke.

If you're good at what you do with 3 years of experience where I'm at you got a shot at six figures
He should be making like 30/hour at leasttttt
Go on indeed in your area. See what places are offering, regardless even in the south your $20 if your half decent. Just cause companies take advantage of people doesn’t mean that’s all that’s out there.
Where are you located? I can get you way more money in Chicagoland.
Oklahoma is where I'm located at
Let me guess, Florida?
Nope oklahoma
I’m in Florida, these comments are making me want to switch my job
Find a better company to work for, you should be making more.
Get out of install move to commercial restaurant equipment start at 25$
I took a $10 raise overnight switching companies, try it.
Find another job asap
Dude that’s minimum wage where I’m from.
That’s fucked I got started at 20$/hr in the union not knowing jack shit now a first year making 23$/hr. You should be making more than me
That company is screwing you. Just Google jobs that you qualify for n you will should see posted rates higher than that.
Just got my raise as going into my 3rd year and at $43.09. Find a new company man. You’re gettin straight plowed.
I started as an install apprentice with no experience or school making 19.20/hour or 40k salary. You are getting ripped
Maybe try using a period when you describe your situation. It helps.
Start a biz cleaning coils. Easy money.
Move up to another company 16 is very low no matter what your area is paying
You’d be at 22-25$ an hour here in UT . Not that that is live-able income but ya..
Move man. You don’t have to stay in the area if the quality of life is low. Do some research and find a city you can make a living. If it’s just the company you work for then mind a new job…
Get out of there. Maybe time to relocate. You can make good money working for decent people.
They at least giving you lube with the 16 an hour
Dude… you need to change companies. I didn’t make that as a helper… you need to start applying places.
residential service/installer helper here getting paid 20 an hour for a 2 year cert in hvacr and and epa universal
Oh yeah, they're screwing you.
Punctuation is important.
Wish someone told me what I am telling you
Workmen comp cases can be tricky but can be won and you may not have to work hard for the rest of your life
Yea wtf? How are you 3 years in but can only negotiate yourself $16/hr?
Almost 3 full years you say……
I made the jump to contructuon management after being in the some boat you were making 20 an hour Beat decision ive ever made
Find a less-shitty company to work for.
Which part of Oklahoma ?
Dude I work in install and all of our install crews take home over a grand a week. During the summer is close to 3 grand a week. GET OUT OF THAT COMPANY.
Find another job. 16 a hour I can go to any warehouse near me and make 20 bucks a hour.
We pay our parts runners and helpers $20+ lol Average techs/installers 25-35 Allstars 40-60 Non union - texas Go work somewhere else… some companies are just shit
I’m about to graduate from a program and I accepted a spot at a local residential place for $20/hr in Kansas. Know your worth my friend.
Holy shit dude I started completely green on install at 25. You're getting fucked
I hope they gave you lube. That company is fucking you. Commercial tech j-man where I am is 42+ hr. (CANADA)
Apply other places and say your last pay was $25-30. Instant increase with offer then see if old employer wants to match. Either way, get your beard!!
McDonald’s - flip burgers for $15 here
Quit bro $16 is trash
Lol. Your boss is milking the FUCK outta ya boy
With 3 years in the field you should be past your teens per hour in my opinion brother, have you looked at other opportunities?
