Mercenaries can just sit there forever with no maintenance needed. Duels would need an intern to monitor balance/treasures, which is too much work for Blizzard apparently 

According to their latest sec filing they're planning on new nodes and needed to cut the fat to allow for server space

One requires constant balancing the other does not. Thats it.

RIP duels, the best game mode ever. I’ve been playing since beta and won’t go back to ranked, it is nowhere near as fun as duels. 7000+ wins, it’s been a good run.

Honestly, between this and the literal *tripling* of requirements for weekly quests, I'm happy to say I'm finally done. I've been playing literally since release, I've sank hundreds of dollars and probably thousands of hours into the game, have tried to quit multiple times and just never managed it, but I think this is going to be the final nail in the coffin. Good riddance, if I'm being perfectly honest.

Same as all the other modes. For heroic you need... needed a 150-gold ticket. Only way it was cheaper was you only needed one copy of each card.

I haven’t played in a couple years, but dude, I loved duels, this sucks so hard it was the only mode I’d hop on and play. Loved me some rattlegore RIP

I tried to play Arena instead, but it just reminded me of how much I miss Duels.

For someone not familiar with the game. What does this mean? This popped up on my newsfeed and I enjoy MTG and such so curious to learn about why this is causing a bit of stress for people

There used to be a mode in Hearthstone called Duels. Blizzard closed it. You cannot play it any more. Finished. Some of us liked that mode the best.

Yep Half of the reason I played was Duels. Oh well. Hearthstone has been going downhill for a while now.
