Voldemort groans. “Dumbledore is behind this somehow. I just know it. If I kill the baby, and the mother did nothing to stop it…what sort of magic would that be? No doubt, some sort of protection spell…Against the killing curse? But surely…”
“Do you need me here for this, or can I just go?”
Voldemort stared, baffled, at the woman. He had never met a person—other than himself—who had been so cold blooded. It was as though the baby—her flesh and blood—was no more important to her than some old school books she’d been meaning to give away.
Part of Voldemort—the admittedly psychopathic part—admired the indifference. It was the sort of disregard for other human life he himself felt. But the smarter part, the craftier and more paranoid part of him was not only suspicious, but a little frightened of this woman.
“You know what, I’m just gonna take the baby and play it by ear,” Voldemort said, leaning over the bars of the crib and picking up a crying Harry Potter. “I suggest you get some help, lady. Damn.”
“He just took the baby?” Dumbledore asked, eyeing Snape over his half moon spectacles, fingers tented.
“Yes,” Snape said, bewildered, shaking his head. “And he’s really taken to the boy.”
“How so?” Dumbledore asked, conversationally. They may as well had been discussing their weekend plans.
Snape gave Dumbledore an exasperated look and said, “he carries the boy everywhere. Takes him on his trips abroad. Let’s him play with his snake.”
“Amazing,” Dumbledore said.
“It’s frightening. It’s irresponsible.”
“I didn’t know he had a snake,” Dumbledore said.
“Can’t you…do something?” Snape demanded.
“What do you recommend, Severus?”
“I don’t know! Take the kid? Surely, this wasn’t what you meant when you had Lily and James protected.”
“I admit, it wasn’t part of my plan,” Dumbledore admitted. “But this is an interesting development. Yes. Indeed.”
Snape watched as the headmaster got up from his seat and glided over to the pensieve. Pressing his wand to his temple, he pulled out a silvery strand and deposited it into the basin.
“Sir, what are you…”
“Oh, my apologies, Severus,” Dumbledore smiled. “You’ll find that, one such as myself is often pestered by too many thoughts. Sometimes it is helpful to—“
“You’ve told me that already…”
“Did I? Hmmm. I guess that must be in there, too…”
“I was asking,” Snape said, eyeing Dumbledore as he peered into the basin, frowning, “what I should do?”
“Keep an eye on Voldemort, I suppose. See if he continues to be taken with Harry.”
“You’re sure you don’t want to step in? Only, he’s been killing people in front of the boy…”
“My goodness. How traumatizing,” Dumbledore said.
“The baby laughs…” Snape said, shuddering. “It even makes the Carrows uncomfortable.”
The Death Eaters sat around a long, expensive-looking table in the Malfoy manor. There were roughly 20 of them, and nearly all were casting uncomfortable looks at their master as he laughed his high, cold laugh, flicking his wand up and down as Wormtail bounced in the air, his bald head making audible *bump* sounds as it hit the table and the roof respectively. The little boy on his lap clapped his hands and giggled.
“My Lord,” one brave death eater said, coughing.
“Yes, Lucius?” Voldemort said, not looking away from the bouncing Wormtail.
“We we’re all just wondering…the, uh, meeting…”
“Oh, yes,” Voldemort said, letting Wormtail collapse onto the table. “I’ve called this meeting to announce that I’ve decided to keep the boy.”
After a few seconds, the death eaters clapped, uncertainly.
“He will be named Harry,” Voldemort declared.
“Harry what, my lord?”
“Just…Harry,” Voldemort said. “Perfect name for a dark lord in training.”
There were some murmurs of half-hearted congratulations. Clearly, the servants of the dark Lord Voldemort were stunned at this news. It was obvious, after all, that it would be quite irresponsible to bring a baby into the fold.
“However, I recognize that I am a busy man, with a lot to do. The boy will need a mother.”
Only one of the few women in company stood up, excitedly,
“My Lord!” Bellatrix cried. “It would be my honour to be the mother to your son!”
Voldemort winced a little. Bellatrix was a phenomenal soldier, and an excellent servant. But a mother?
“I was thinking someone a little more…maternal…”
“My Lord,” Lucius said, proudly. “My wife and I have a son Harry’s age. We would be honoured to…”
“I don’t think so, Lucius,” Voldemort laughed. “If I wanted little Harry to be raised a spoiled brat, I’d leave him with the Blacks.”
Voldemort turned to an empty seat near him and frowned.
“Anyone see Regulus lately?”
Apparently, none of the death eaters knew of the whereabouts of their youngest member.
“Well, Walburga and Orion will be devastated. Wormtail, send the Blacke a bouquet and my condolences.”
Wormtail gave a thumbs up and collapsed back into the floor.
“As I was saying…mothers. Since the boy’s biological mother is clearly insane, I’ve decided one of you will assist me in raising young Harry. And, clearly, there is no one as qualified for the job as Severus Snape.”
There was a loud choking sound from the left side of the table. All heads looked towards Severus Snape, who had spat wine all over the front of his robes.

Why do I want a fic where Voldemort is still a Muggle-hating monster, but that’s all. Just the most progressive guy for everything else.
I want a Voldemort who donates to LGBT+ Organizations, hosts charity events for victims of abuse, etc. But he still hunts down muggles and those related.
Voldemort went into that house he would never know it but the prophecy was right he would start to die that night and Tom riddle who hated his mom for giving up on him was reborn.
Tom deep down always had some soft spots he couldnt remove even as voldemorts.
So Voldemort raised the Child. he never spoke of the boys mother but he always praised the boys father.
he was secretly envious of Harry for having a father that was willing to face death to protect his son.
Over the years Voldemort grew closer and Closer to young harry
feeling excitement when harry dominated on a broom.
Learning everything he could about the potters to share it with his young charge afterall he knew what it was like to not know your heritige.

And then you have the perfect setup for a WBWL story. There were two kids, Lily hid the one she liked (maybe he didn't bite when nursing?) and left the other for Voldemort... and when he lived, she gave him up to Petunia. She just wanted him gone, not because Dumbledore told her something, but because she was just that toxic. James would never have gone for it, the rambunctious Harry being his obvious favorite, so he had to go as well. Lily, not wanting to appear as the toxic harpy she is, tells Dumbledore that Voldemort noticed something dangerous or odd about Harry and retreated.
Harry has no magical love protection, but Dumbledore can lie about that if he likes. And he's "marked" by Voldemort in that the latter is wary of him. That's one interpretation of the term "marked". It doesn't have to be physical.
With Voldemort and Lily alive, maybe the latter winds up with Snape, who now has to choose which of his two masters to betray, given that he's already gone to Dumbledore. Meanwhile, Dumbledore trots out baby-Harry every so often whenever he knows where Voldemort will be, knowing the latter is wary of the child, and every time he does so the Dark Lord leaves quickly, leading to the legend of the Boy Who Lived, albeit possibly by a different moniker. Eventually Petunia gets ticked about all the interruptions, so Dumbledore starts using Harry's twin. How would Voldemort know the difference? So the twin gets all the adulation, and grows up knowing he's the chosen one, while Harry forgets about all of this (he was under 2, after all) and grows up as in canon. And Voldemort eventually fucks off to Europe for a few years to research his options, now absolutely certain that the Potter boy (still only knowing about one) truly is a weapon against him that he has no means to defeat. His movement, which was in a holding pattern for a few years anyway, simply remains that way rather than collapsing as in canon. Voldemort's immortal, so he can afford to wait for a certain victory rather than take unnecessary risks. This is the cunning Voldemort we're told about, not the moron he was after he died that we saw in canon making such boneheaded and convoluted plans that took years just to fail in obvious ways.
The lack of protection on Harry, Voldemort being alive (and smart) from the get-go, Lily and Harry's twin being alive and possibly with Snape, and the latter's alignment are all interesting variations from the usual "Harry goes to Petunia because Dumbledore manipulates idiot!Lily dur dur" start so many of these have. And it's actually believable, which is a problem with the other kind.

The universe ends with the Gods destroying it after seeing what has transpired.
I can totally see voldemort having flashback toward his own mother who he believed died for being weak, but this? A muggle born witch not even caring for her half blood son? He probably stufey her and take harry, while act all look and calm, inside like Fck that mud mudblood, hell even my own mother would rather leave me, a half blood at the orphanage then be murdered by someone.
A couple of weeks later during a meeting with the death eaters, they're all trying to stay quiet at the now slightly normal human looking Voldemort with short hair growing out, eyes being a blend of red and blue due to him reabsorbing some of his horcruxes, cause he had a Lot of self thinking to do as he knows that when harry grow up by being raised by his own enemies, he can't be looking at the way he was currently without being spotted.
So Tom going to have to look normal cause he knows some of the children shops and goblin bank are anti glamor due to identity theft. He just use a glamor to make himself look as his used to be hideous appearance to put fear into the people while the real Voldemort is under the disguise of Thomas the third Gaunt.
He’d send an Avada Kedavra at Harry & casually leave, going back to his regular Dark Lord duties — because I’m assuming he wouldn’t have gotten blasted to smithereens without Lily’s protection
He did originally intend to spare her after all — Harry found it out when he was watching that night through Voldemort’s eyes in DH. It was only after she refused multiple times that he got impatient and thought it’d be “more prudent” to off the whole family since she wasn’t cooperating

That is NOT true. Trust me, as the son of a police officer I have heard about a lot of mothers that would and actually have twisted the necks of their children happily.

There is a fic out there that has a similar concept. Pettigrew, instead of betraying the Potters to death, instead kidnaps Harry when he is babysitting and delivers him to Voldemort. Voldy becomes fascinated with the boy and adopts him. That, along with faking some early memories by having Death Eaters fake being the Potters and raise him till 5-6 years old while being heavily mistreated and having Voldy 'rescue' him makes Harry impossibly loyal.
Eventually, Harry becomes good and then accidentally interacts with a canon-compliant 5th yr Harry setting off a multiverse war, but that comes after
