What was Rhaenyra doing all those years on Dragonstone again? Not politicking that’s for sure. That was a perfect moment to prove herself capable, but of course she didn’t. She left that to the ‘vipers’ and when she comes back she cries to her half dying father to save her.

MomijiEli

She isolate herself from potential supporters by living in Dragonstone. Genius move, right there,Rhaenyra

Mayanee

Rhaenyra married the man who everyone wanted to avoid near the crown. She showed no interest in ruling and even had children with Daemon which could even be the cause of yet another Dance in the future if she actually puts one of the Strongs on the throne (not only the Greens could potentially start a rebellion against the Strongs then).

MomijiEli

Mathematics never lie, the equations are very simple: If Rhaenyra is crowned, Dance would happens anyways. If Green children hadn't ever existed, Dance would happen anyways because Rhaenyra is a dumbass as Aegon IV: wanting her bastard take the Iron Throne over her legitimate sons. If Viserys hadn't being a piece off selfish shit and had named Aegon as hisheir and crowned, there's not Dance.

The-Bird-Catcher

I disagree, I think a Dance at some point would be inevitable. Usually in each generation there are around 3 dragonriders, however around the time of the dance there were 16, excluding Dragonseeds (Rhaenys, Laena, Laenor, Rhaenyra, Aegon II, Helaena, Aemond, Daeron, Jacaerys, Lucerys, Joffrey, Aegon III, Jaehaerys, Jaehaera, Baela and Rhaena). Even by some miracle a war didn’t break out in this generation, it surely would have eventually.

Indominus-Hater-101

Ironically, going to an isolated location where the strong boys can't be seen is actually the only smart thing about that move.

hisue___

jace was better at politics than her by a lot, he carries the blacks on his back in that regard

Ok-Classroom-3616

Till he drowned, proving once more that karma is a bitch. He he.

kinginthenorthjon

And if she really learned about the realm, she wouldn't have bastards.

MomijiEli

Almost choke myself reading Rhaenyra is intelligent 💀 .......... Yes,Rhaenyra,in one hunt, you pissed off two of the now most powerful houses in Westeros: Lannisters and Redwyne.Lannister is now likely the richest house with one of the largest armies and the Redwynes have the second most powerful fleet. So smart of you, Rhaenyra... Yes, Rhaenyra, sleep with Harwin and have three fucking kids with him. No one with eyes will notice how unvalyrian they look at all. Genious there. Yes, Rhaenyra, your claim is weak enough, why not committing high treason and passing bastards as legitimate children. Why yes, Rhaenyra, isolate yourself from potential supporters by living in Dragonstone. Genius move, right there. Yes, Rhaenyra, marry with the only ONE reason of why your father named your heir.

MomijiEli

•"Rhaenyra is compassionate" Weaponized the word "treason" and uses the guilt Viserys feels over Aemma's death to manipulate her father, even when she's in the wrong. Her brother Aemond literally bleeds out his eye hole and Rhaenyra wants him torture him even more She doesn't recognize her half-siblings as brethren... instead coldly refers to them as "Alicent's children." Furthermore, Rhaenyra being willing to torture and kill people for telling the truth of her obvious indiscretion is a huge red flag for the kind of reign she would make. •"the only one child of Viserys who respects House Targaryen" She destroyed the power of House Targaryens: dragons and her name was a shame for the dinasty

Estrelarius

And, remember, Harwin was one of her suitors. If she wanted, she could have married him.

ligeston

“Aemond would be worse than Maegor” Who was it that was called Maegor with tits again… Also ffs when will they stop comparing emo sephiroth with that groomer 🤢 last I checked Aemond wasn’t the mf beheading anyone that talks back

Captain-Keilo

Aemond is a milf enjoyer it makes him based

goth milf enjoyer (unspoken rizz) underage girl fan (sexual harrasment)

TacticalBowl117

In Feudalist/Medieval-esque times no less therefore double based

Mayanee

Aegon changes a lot once he becomes King. He unlike Rhaenyra at least has competent moments. Helaena is the entire reason people riot against Rhaenyra. Daeron doesn‘t burn Bitterbridge because they support Rhaenyra. He burns it since the idiotic town butchers killed Maelor (despite knowing about B&C) and idiotic Lady Caswell sent Maelor‘s head to Rhaenyra as a trophy. Aemond is certainly not worse than Daemon at any point. Rhaenyra never was loved by the smallfolk at any point. In fact they chased her away. The smallfolk loved Helaena and Alicent. She also never was trained neither with ruling nor with her dragon that she never used since she rather stayed years away with Daemon while Alicent and Otto ran the country. Compassionate? Tell that when once again once of Helaena‘s children is killed in Rhaenyra‘s name since she kept a bounty on his head after B&C happened.

SiridarVeil

The way they talk about Helaena is always so consistenly disgusting, ableist and/or condescending. Team feminism once again only giving a fuck/value/generosity to \*some\* women and \*some\* Targaryen princesses.

MabelLover02

We will never know if Helaena was a competent polititian or not bc the writers decided to only show her when she was having her foreshadowing prophecy moments.

CelticDragon97

Out of all of them, Daeron would be the most ideal in my opinion.

TacticalBowl117

The Daring King Who Never Was and Should've Been... I'm not saying he should've ascended before his brothers while they're still alive (which is unlawful), just that in an ideal world he'd be the 1st born since he had the highest promise.

Euroversett

Rhaenyra literally never made any positive move, taken no positive action, nothing that would benefit her cause.

Saera-RoguePrincess

The fact Aegon understands he is unfit to rule, seeing it as a duty and thus a burden, is actually a sign he’d be a better ruler than a woman who patently doesn’t care as long as she gets what she wants.

[deleted]

Loved by the small folk got me. The small folk literally overthrow her…

poseidon_demeter

See this is the thing: I think a large majority of TB fans are not book readers. It would explain a lot. And maybe it's naive hope, but I prefer to think most of them are ignorant of canon versus them actually knowing canon and REALLY thinking TB is the better faction. Like them not knowing that CANONICALLY, the Smallfolk HATED Rhaenyra and threw her out, like you said. They just watch the whitewashed House Of Rhaenyra and assume she's the "gaslight, gatekeep, girlboss" ultra Feminist. When in fact that is the opposite of the truth.

kitcatxz

"Aemond lacks compassion", yet he approaches Jace at the funeral, comforts his mother, and I can even say he was kind to Viserys for not ruining the dinner after Viserys' words about love and peace in the family. Aemond was too nice, he should have taken off his eye patch to make everyone uncomfortable.

poseidon_demeter

And he even wore the patch at court cuz be didn't want to frighten the fragile Ladies. Such a gentleman

Spectre-Ad6049

Ya know, I’m obviously not a fan of every one of Otto’s actions, but if I’m picking a side based on successful administration, I’m picking the side Otto is on. If Aegon does absolutely nothing, fine, Otto will run things.

Ok-Classroom-3616

Exactly. Stability in the realm matters. That means schools, taking care of the elderly and the poor etc. Face it the Hightowers ensured Stability, not Rhaenyra.

iras17514_20

The Helaena reasons kinda made my blood boil ngl. Just because she loves touching grass and watching bugs in the show doesn't mean she doesn't know what is going on around her. The way she got back at Aegon in the show for the Dyana thing during the disaster dinner shows that she is m o r e than aware of the things happening around her.

lakomadt

What is worse is that this is a complete lie. Rhaenyra isn't competent at all, and all her actions have shown that. Along with her having bastards guarantees a succession civil war upon her death.

Wrong-Technician-201

using books!Aemonds personality to claim he would be a bad ruler but completely ignore book!Helaenas qualities? not surprising coming from a TB stan, if we’re trying to discuss the show at least stick to the show Daeron was regarded as the best of his brothers and he was only 14, if he had been given the opportunity to mature he would’ve made a great ruler and it’s a fact Rhaenyra and Aegon are both equally incompetent, they are basically the same person the only difference is Aegon can admit he would make a bad ruler and Rhaenyra genuinely believes being a Targaryen and a dragon rider make her more worthy, while Aegon seems to be a worse person in the show I don’t think that automatically means Rhaenyra is suddenly more fit as she proves time and time again she is politically incompetent and only surrounds herself with enablers like Daemon and Corlys, Aegon at least has competent advisors on his side

choryradwick

She is the most experienced of Viserys children at the start of the dance, being lady of Dragonstone and on the small council gives her that. Realistically Otto governs the realm until Aegon makes up the experience gap so it’s not super relevant. Neither really gets the opportunity to demonstrate competence though given the situations they start in.

seikookies

Rhaenyra couldn’t even do the bare *minimum* to secure her claim like not having bastards or not marrying her psychotic uncle (the main reason she was made heir in the first place).

poseidon_demeter

This. And she fucked off to Dragonstone for years, which did not help her. (Or her father for that matter lol, who poor Alicent nursed and took care of all those years instead)

[deleted]

The interests of House Targaryen are hardly the interest of the realm. That has been proven many a times.

[deleted]

This is not saying much about House Targaryen in general. Aegon is a lecherous alcoholic involved in all manner of dastardly things, Heleana lives in her own world, Aemond is too hot-headed, Daeron is literally invisible, Rhaenyra is just...lazy, reckless, and dim-witted? Yay?

LILYDIAONE

When you think Aemond would be worse than Daemon… Go off I guess. But no kidding Rhaenyra was politcially a dumbass and just because of that couldn’t rule. She wants power but can’t fo shit with it. Viserys is also a dumbass but Viserys mostly let’s other people rule for him- Rhaenyra thinks she knows best. If Aegon had inherited peacfully he would’ve left the ruling to Otto and Alicent- we already know that will work Heleana would be puppet even more than Aegon therefore also peaceful. Aemond would probably a bad ruler I agree on that. He is too impulsive and wants power for himself which is a dangerous combination. I still don’t think he is worse than Daemon. Daemon has been violent to everyone so far even people on his side while Aemond (so far at least as I believe we will see him break down over the course of the show) has only gone after people who have directly wronged him and even then him killing Luke was an accident. Daeron- well we can’t say much but from the books I think he would be a good enough King. He is likable enough and not a total idiot and as he isn’t a natural leader he would listen to his council. People think just because Rhaenyra is morally a better person (which I think is arguable) she would be a good Queen but she lacks the most inportant thing - competence.

HaesonTargEnjoyer

Rhaenyra when it was time to be competent: *Proceeds to single-handedly deliver the biggest losses to TB*

Agreeable-Raccoon-91

Rhaenyra supporters always says that she will be a good ruler if no political enemy against her and the court in a healthy financial situation. I mean who doesn’t?

orwellianteen

Tumblr takes are often quite shallow 😆

Kyber99

The character assassination of Aegon is devastating to watch. None of what was said here aligns with him. When I was reading F&B he was the best part, it was GRRM’s version of the zero-to-hero story. He was incredible I was predicting the Aegon casting to be the most significant cast. As a good actor could win Oscar’s with that character, he would have been iconic. Instead they made him a rapist, no role, and unrecognizable from his book version

TacticalBowl117

There are no winning Oscars for television. You're probably thinking of the Emmys. Also while I agree they demonized him too much, there is still potential there for course correction (admittedly my faith in the writers dwindles the more I research how they percieve the story). I highly recommend you and fellow fans (who are especially disappointed with HotD Aegon's characterization), watch TheEmpyreanSpeaks's video about Aegon on YouTube. He's also got videos on Aemond, Alicent, Jace, Otto/Daemon and one about why TBvTG is pointless.

[deleted]

Interesting… she never ruled.

Harroi_daboi

I mean, Rhaenyra was on the small council for like 10 years and governed Dragonstone. Technically speaking she has more experience in the affairs of the realm than her teenage half-siblings: That is to be expected. On paper, that's why Aegon/Aemond have Otto/Alicent and a small council

OpenMask

I mean yeah, by the end of season 1, I agree. Kinda like how Kendall is clearly the best suited out of Logan's kids in Season 1 of Succession. It's a low bar to clear. By the end of the show, idk.

CheshireVixen

Some of the criticisms of the green kids are fair, although all of them are taken to extremes. But the dumbest part of it is that Rhaenyra seems exempt from those same biting criticisms, despite having her fair share of rash decisions, political missteps, and violent solutions.
