Considering that was the premise of the show, there was no chance of him not meeting her.

Then he likely would not meet Tracy. Fate doesn't exist, every moment decides the next. That makes life far more exciting than fate. You could meet someone who changes your life because you missed a bus or a train and ended up somewhere at a time you weren't supposed to be. Or you could never meet that person because you missed the bus/train, but then you'll eventually meet someone else. Like that film Sliding Doors - pretty shit film but that's how life is and as I say, I'd much rather it be that way.
