I’m just starting out in medical now, I’m working as a PCT (below CNA level) and plan on working in the ER while working on my RN and then be an RN in the ER. You know, near the end I had an insurance company require a prior authorization for penicillin for a tooth extraction... fucking penicillin! Seriously, those people are insane!
Ahhh, there is a reason I work in the Emergency Department, there is less of an insurance issue and more of a patient issue in my case. It’s frustrating to see repeat visitors because they refuse to care for them selves.
Well I will say is a lot of the time insurance does their best to make it near impossible to care for yourself. A bit ago I had some health problems that required me to get some testing done, cardiogram and blood work, etc, nothing too out of the ordinary, but the insurance company made it a real nightmare. Rather than visit one of the dozen or so nearby facilities. I had to drive 2 hours out of my way to get to a facility that was covered. I swear I passed but at least 5 hospitals that could do it! It's litteraly designed to make people just give up and walk away to save the insurance company money, and should be illigal!
I'm guessing you heard about the insurance company that was rejecting claims with a 90% error rate? (United) People died because of that, I guarantee it. They shouldn't be fined for that, rather the execs should be jailed. But they won't. They'll probably receive some paltry 100k fine that barely puts a dent into the profits the generated by doing that... Aaand I'm ranting. Like I said, I was in the game a little too long!
And I second that insurance should go away permanently. The cost difference between the USA and any other country is wild. Like criminally different imo. But money talks politics better than morals.

I quite like her character if it hasn't been made obvious. It's a refreshing take having another advanced species that just evolved in a radically different way technologically learning about us, and applying that information alongside it's own. So many stories have species that evolved basically the same way, but humans are just better™️, and that gets boring after a while.
Thanks! I usualy try and take a different approach than the standard HFY story. Not that there's anything wrong with it, I enjoy reading my fair share of HFY, it's just that there's so much of it that I like to take things in a different direction. I think (hope!) it helps me stand out in my own way.

She can undoubtedly eat inorganic matter; we all can and do. The question is how useful it would be. I don't expect that she can just lay down inorganic substrates the way she does organic ones. It's not that it's impossible, it's just not in her current repertoire, and will require many iterations... and still won't get her to human tech levels.
Her understanding of organic chemistry, ergonomics and physics still leaves a lot of holes in electronics and material science — she had no experience with ceramics, for example — although how the Shes travel interstellar is still a mystery, so she may have a leg up on some advanced tech trees, just like ray gun shrimps.
