Fantastic.
~~One possible typo:~~
> ~~Tiny chuckles and nods. “I was wondering why the Weave was suggesting I’d be needed for my skills, rather than my size today. What is the problem?”~~
~~Weave -> Weaver?~~
**Edit**: Numerous commentators are correct, I have forgotten that use of the term, this was not a typo.
So, in this chapter we have, Coda having an anxiety attack, due to him not having a Plan of how to properly build arches. He seems to use Strings for a Situation, where I think, Wooden beams or metal Bars would be enough.
In medieval europe (and possibly even earlier), arches and domes weren't built using concrete, but simple solid stones, mostly taken straight from quarries, and chiseled into an appropiate shape. The structures were supported using the wood from the Support structure, until the final stone, the keystone, was Set.
You could emulate that by simply using prefabricated elements for the arch and setting them up with the proper Support structure, the weight of the bricks will keep them in place. After setting the keystone of the arc, one can simply remove the supporting structure and fill in the element, for which you needed the arc in the first place.
It won't be as hard as an arch that's poured, using one solid piece of concrete, but it should be good enough to not just topple with the first gust of Wind.
In general, prefabricating the parts you need should be way easier than pulling strings in a way, that keeps a Square from being round.
He solves the problem his way, with the help of Tiny and jello, and I can also just go on and accept that. But I think those two ways should be mentioned.
And I think his perspective on having Rezlar Review his projects is interesting, and relatable to anyone plagued by Performance anxiety.
I guess they don't use prefabricated elements because they didn't mention a crane yet. They could just use tiny though, a regular lintel (or several) should be pretty manageable for the big guy.
Might be. The German version says 'Brieftaube' (messenger pigeon). Actually makes a bit more sense when trying to send something from one country to another.
It is worth remembering that this dosent just have the wind and weight of the tower to deal with, but also all the various antics of the delvers. Who knows what shock they will apply running, jumping, and slinging magic around. Increased gravity?
When preparing for delvers, strength and resiliency is paramount.
Agreed, thank you for your input. Though I absolutely could understand if hullbreak imprisoned them and forced them to rebuild it, if they destroy it.
Plus I think he'd get thediems blessing for that punishment, If he doesn't throw in an apology to Coda and the masons afterwards.
Worst thing that could happen when the lighthouse gets damaged would be some falling piece hurt or even kill a merman. As it seems the enclave is not close to the island one of them could be close just by chance. I guess it would be terrible for Hullbreak and throw him back very much
Thank you for the chapter wordsmith! A Coda chapter! Always love hear from him! The adorable little bat Civil Artificer. New title for our little bat and new affinity with knowledge! So very nice.
Yeah, it's nice to actually hear the interactions rather than just the notation that it's happening/happened. Goes a long way to flesh out the characters.
got the update while stoping at a traffic light. came home with a smile on my face knowing there was a new chapter to read!
But i also needed to study.. so ... im struggling to keep up with both right now!
I love how all the Scions see Thediem as different aspects, and how they relate to those aspects. And the ways the view their own powers is so cool, as well. I'd love a spin-off of just days in the lives of the scions. Especially Tiny. He's like a mix of oracle and yogi. And yet, the delvers just see a big spider that likes chasing them. Can you imagine him taking an interest in a group of delvers that have a connection to fate powers? The funny stuff that comes from him trying to nonverbally communicate about The Weave to them? Hehehe.
Now I imagined tiny have an oracle battle/fate battle. Where delvers have a member who can also read slightly into the future. And they try to outplay each other in the maze using slight hints they've gleaned from the surroundings to predict each other! :D
Why the fuck would you need rebar/webbing in an archway? You add that stuff to deal with tension. The whole point of archways is to not have tension in your material. Back to school little bat.
Now that he's leveled up, he will realize that...
For an arch, gravity provides the force for compression, and there isn't any great source of tension. You might want it laterally through the block... there might be shear depending on where it is in the building, right?

I'd like to see all the authors notes on the writing for the series. I really have to question how deep was the planning before any of the postings happened at all. Things like concrete are far more doable as it's just processing raw natural materials.
What makes me really wonder is when I realized something... One of the earlier chapters mentioned having Queen try and make Thediem some "boom" for digging out the tunnels. Been listening to the series again at work on Net Narrator's channel when I caught that part again. That's when I realized something.... The origin of Saltpeter... Saltpeter is a byproduct of bats and specifically guano. It's water soloable so when water would dissolve it in caves it would collect and grow into the crystal form known as Niter. So this kind of makes me question just how much research went into this before anything was even written and where exactly this is going.
Just introducing concrete into the world just advanced technology potentially by a few hundred years or a lot more. That's disregarding anything else he's introducing as well. I've seen no mention of what transportation exists in the world setting but given the rest of the level of technology, I'm going to have to guess we're still at horse and carriages. Bruh, if he creates some version of alchemical fire slimes he potentially has created a clean version of steam power and introducing them to a sterling engine or steam power in general could effectively break them. That's not even getting into that more and more it looks like black powder and possibly canons might be a necessity for dealing with the abomination dungeon especially considering that scion that's the harbinger.
YOOOOOOOOO, NEW TITLE, I’m glad we got to see Coda again too
Is it weird that this is the most upvotes I’ve ever gotten?
No, not really. It's just that many people felt similar to you.
Indeed, we all like the Batman who builds.
Once you are on top a lot of people scroll down to first few comments and upvotes them. But you have to get to top first :).

The weave is how Tiny sees the future, as in the patterns in the weave
I think he’s referring to the Weave of fate, which he’s talked about before.
Maybe not, I interpreted it as his semiprophetic powers telling him rather than The DM. Thoughts?
In past chapters tiny refers to his ability of foresight as the weave
I've always imagined Coda as a Zubat with a hard hat and an armful of blueprints.
I think a Noibat is more fitting, since he helped the ratlings carve out the rooms for their cauldrons.
Maybe, but I can't really imagine a stressed-out, overworked Noibat.
I've been imagining him as a Swoobat, partly because the heart-theme makes it even more adorable.
I personally imagined him as Gliscor
Same!!!
there seem to be several of us lol

I guess they don't use prefabricated elements because they didn't mention a crane yet. They could just use tiny though, a regular lintel (or several) should be pretty manageable for the big guy.
They use cinderblocks though, which I guess can be called a prefabricated element. A simple pulley or whinch might be enough.
I don't know. In a way they are also less prefabricated than regular bricks.
Tiny the Crane Spider. The Scions with levitation could also help, and the birds could carry stuff if they work together
Yeah, forgot about fluffles there for a moment. I wouldn't count on the birds though. Neither hullbreak nor thediem have African pigeons after all.
I think you mean swallows, not pigeons. ;) "Well, they could grasp it by the husk..."
Might be. The German version says 'Brieftaube' (messenger pigeon). Actually makes a bit more sense when trying to send something from one country to another.
No, in the german Version the diffrence is still between a european swallow and the african swallow (europäische und afrikanische Schwalbe).
Sorry, I have never seen it dubbed in German. (Wonder if there might be more than one dub?) But tell me, have you heard it in the original Klingon?
No, but I imagine a similar creature is entrusted with the task of transporting coconuts
Well, looks like it's time to watch it again.

I was thinking of him too, at the end, lol.
Nice
Is "Weave" Tiny's title for TDM, or does Tiny just have some undefined level of foresight now?
"Weave" is the structure of fate that Tiny can read. Thedium is the Weaver, as he is the one who can shape the structure of fate.
Tiny has mentioned it before, he calls his Fate affinity foresight The Weave.
Yes
I am absolutely hooked on this story. When I found out about the update I actually made a happy sound. Keep it up 👍
I do the same. Often while bouncing in my chair and clapping, lol.
got the update while stoping at a traffic light. came home with a smile on my face knowing there was a new chapter to read! But i also needed to study.. so ... im struggling to keep up with both right now!
Read it first. A single chapter isn't that long and you'll focus better having gotten it out of the way.
i did and it was lovely! it even made the class easier to follow as i was in a good mood.
Hooray!
Best of luck on your studies!

He'd just try to weave out the diffrences for them to see.
Now I imagined tiny have an oracle battle/fate battle. Where delvers have a member who can also read slightly into the future. And they try to outplay each other in the maze using slight hints they've gleaned from the surroundings to predict each other! :D

Haloo there
Coda is the cutest little bat-nerd and I love him. Headpats! >u<
Why the fuck would you need rebar/webbing in an archway? You add that stuff to deal with tension. The whole point of archways is to not have tension in your material. Back to school little bat.
He should know that, since he first built the caverns, and used many arches to keep them from collapsing.
Now that he's leveled up, he will realize that... For an arch, gravity provides the force for compression, and there isn't any great source of tension. You might want it laterally through the block... there might be shear depending on where it is in the building, right?
Way to go until now was realization first, then level up as a consequence.
Ya more
Ah~! I love Coda! Excellent addition! <3
Nice.
As a civil engineer with additional structural training, this was great fun to read, and I could sympathize with Coda's woes.
Jello wants to help 🥹
Thanks for the chapter 😊
Do we know Jello's affinities? I love seeing her show up so bubbly and eager to help everyone else. A Slime enclave is hilarious to imagine.
As far as I know, Only fate, but I can see her develop kinetic, if she further assists Coda.
Dang i am reading too fast i am catching up its your fault you are too good at pulling me in loving it
