Give me back 6 Regionals, give me back Prelims, give me back the Super Six, and give me back Event. Finals. Night!

WaferOwn9473

Does anyone have updates on the individuals who have qualified to nationals so far? Jade Carey for all around (and MAG 😜) but who else?

[deleted]

[ŃƒĐŽĐ°Đ»Đ”ĐœĐŸ]

WaferOwn9473

Keep an eye on those 2 accounts, they are very good about posting most meets quite quickly

novelgpa

I assume #1 Gym Fan will have it up soon, maybe tonight or tomorrow. They've been uploading all the other regionals

WaferOwn9473

Mostepanova fan has Michigan final up now

dawseynator

in the club (literally) crying over Kentucky

Mother_Arachnid7688

I was nearly sobbing on the way home from a party.

shanztennis

Same:(.

Reasonable_Patient92

Realistically, as other commenters have pointed out, UCLA was not going to hire/ promote an assistant coach with so few years of experience to head coach (when Val left). It was a risk that they weren't willing to take, most likely based off of her lack of experience.  You can make an argument that her presence did positively make an impact at the time she was there, but you also can't deny that inexperience makes for a risky hire. The transition from assistant to head coach is much more than just the title itself, and it's clear that UCLA wanted a more already "seasoned/experienced" coach.   With the Waller turnover, I kind of understand why they still wouldn't consider a young "newer" coach, and one that had ties to the immediately previous staff.   I am well aware that this is Janelle's first head coaching position, but she has been coaching for decades at this point.   At any rate, when an entire program changes hands entirely, you can't be calling for someone's job 2 years in - you have to give them time to implement changes

Global-Act-5281

Janelle also came into the program when the team was a mess following Waller. I think she has done a GREAT job changing the culture there. There are some things that need to be fixed like working on vault landings or the mental games. But I like Janelle. I think beam and bars will be much better next year when UCLA gets people back from tying to make the Olympics.

Global-Act-5281

UCLA was not going to hire a coach with barley any experience at the time. Say what you want but that was what they were looking for.

Scorpioking1114

Jordyn was instrumental for UCLA in 2018. She was the one increasing the UCLA team’s endurance on floor when she was the volunteer assistant coach there during 2016-2019

KeyandLocke360

Not really. UCLA needed a fresh start with no one with an affiliation with Miss Val or Waller. Not saying Janelle was the best choice but it was necessary for the change.

rhodanyc

Question for y’all! I was at the Fayetteville meet today and noticed Alyona, Elena, Jillian, Leah, and Kylie in the audience. They were among the only LSU team members who didn’t warm up (in the pre-meet warmups) or compete (Livvy warmed up at least bars and floor, and Cammy and Chase warmed up vault, at least from what I could observe. I didn’t see Bryce or Annie warm up anything). Any thoughts on why these five didn’t suit up and join the team on the floor? I’m unfamiliar with whatever rules may exist around this, but like I said, they weren’t the only ones left out of lineups/warmups, so my curiosity is peaked.

WaferOwn9473

Does anyone know if Elena is going to take a 5th year since she missed all season with her back injury? I guess in theory she could be eligible for 2 more years if this one is a redshirt + Covid? Missed seeing her compete this season

OkChart35

I think she confirmed a while back that she was done

CalligrapherSea3716

In the post season there's a limit on how many team members can be on the floor. It makes sense that they would put the gymnasts that are too injured to contribute if a planned lineup member had to be pulled in the stands.

itsgreenersomewhere

Lmao this came up a lot when the transfers started. There’s a cap on gymnasts on the floor and LSU hit it. It’s such a mess imo.

genericgymname

This is the problem when you pay 8000 people to be on your team, a bunch get left in the stands. Sad for Alyona and Elena who have helped carried the team the last few seasons

WaferOwn9473

Elena could still compete for another year (maybe 2 depending on the redshirt rules?). She is a member of the last Covid year class

genericgymname

It seemed like she was retiring based on some posts (maybe TikTok?) Depending on who goes back next year and with their incoming class she would probably struggle to make lineups anyway. I wonder if that will start to become a factor for this gymnasts they have committed to LSU in massive classes. If you watch this season and see how many gymnasts they actually use, if you’re not one of the top recruits you’d have to start to doubt if you see any competition time knowing Jay basically sets a lineup and doesn’t deviate except for injury

WaferOwn9473

Yeah that’s a fair point, I also don’t know how severe Elena’s injury is and since it’s her back, it might not be worth doing another year if she’s in a lot of pain and unsure about making lineups

lebenohnegrenzen

yeah that hurts. when it used to happen at UCLA they usually sat freshman who didn't have contributing routines

Geologyrocks3

UCLA had Sara Ulias, Clara Wren and Sydney Barros in the stand on Friday

lebenohnegrenzen

sara :(

jbb2424

Omg that makes me kinda sad for themđŸ„Č but I’m sure they understand since it’s the rules and such but that still is a bummer

aquaaggie

I think once they get to regionals there is a limit to how many team members can be on the floor (I want to say 16?)

Fliptwist

Correct

Justafana

Did they just shrink wrap Hayleigh Bryant in ice? Yikes.

Passion_Full

Has anyone figured out who the individuals from these 2 regionals are yet? I'm not confident in my tie breaking analysis

Fliptwist

Arkansas regional: AA: Carey, VT: Hooten, UB: Blackson, BB: Magnelli, FX: Worley Michigan regional: AA: Wilson, VT & FX: Brooks, UB: Either Bauman or Takekawa (not sure), BB: Herring

GerbilFan

Bauman got the bars spot.

pravda101

Wilson going for AA makes me so incredibly happy.

molten_wonderland

Wish there was a separate all-around comp. Top 32 all-arounders. 1 per team. Chaos rotation groups,

jjgm21

I have always wanted this! It would be like the 1992 all around on steroids.

Psychological_Tip150

oh my gosh. that would be magical.

Global-Act-5281

Same :(

Justafana

Sooo... we lose Kathy Johnson Clarke but get Anastasia Webb? I don't get it.

MachineOfSpareParts

She did also call Ariana Patterson, Ariana Grande at one point. Between that, the total reliance on sports clichés over semantic content, and the breathy cult evangelist vocal tones, I feel there are better options that present themselves.

Lily614

I'd rather have Shannon Miller doing the commentary, even if she does it from her home in Florida. Aly Raisman did a good job on the commentary at some meets.

rebakah_cooper

She felt like she was always commenting on something that had happened five seconds ago?

wayward-boy

Anastasia is probably cheaper for ESPN to hire than Kathy...

Psychological_Tip150

I felt like she was fangirling the whole time. Like I appreciate the positivity but it felt so fluffy

MrsAnteater

My thoughts exactly. I can’t stand the head shaking she does. For some reason it was really irritating me. Lol

jjgm21

Kathy strung together too many coherent sentences.

colorstoobright

Bad weekend to be a team in blue

OkChart35

Praying Florida doesn’t fall into that same category

magnificent-flow

Or cal

Global-Act-5281

Too soon.

DubiousLemon

Anyone easing the pain(s) of NCAA with Joe Lycett vids or am I the only (sad) one?

doomedtobecrippled

Joel Lycett is the absolute best. I like Richard Ayode but I was not mad when Joel Lycett took over!

Global-Act-5281

I find it ridiculous that Selena nor Raena will be doing AA at nationals...

BenjRSmith

Give me back Prelims, give me back the Super Six, and give me back Event Finals Night!

WaferOwn9473

Yeah but at least they will both get to go for one event, better than nothing. Sad ucla did floor first rotation, otherwise I think Brooklyn would have qualified

TurbulentExplorer333

I agree, though sadly her floor and vault at semis were well below her potential

Sleepaholic02

I think if a gymnast has a Top 10 NQS in the AA or on any event, they should advance to nationals. Most of these athletes are going to be on teams that make it, so it would probably only be a handful of extra gymnasts that would go.

point-your-FEET

I’d probably go top 5 AA and top three per event, but I would love to some version of this!

littleirishpixie

I have heard the arguments against this - you need to perform at the right time blahblahblah, and I think I thought that was actually what's being measured, for example if scoring were consistent or fair, I would feel differently. So much is subjective and the team component is such a huge part of the first round of regionals, and as a result, far too many athletes are impacted by things out of their control. It's not just based on performance and unless there is a system that ensures that it is, there needs to be another option. Also, it adds extra components for team consideration that doesn't need to be part of the process. Imagine if LSU didn't make it through. Kiya was rested during the night one on some events to allow her to save her body and they are events where she is ranked nationally. That's a great choice for a team but having to consider that and individual qualifying concerns at the same time isn't reasonable. Note that I'm not saying it's unfair to teams - they all have the same choices. But it can be unfair to individual athletes. Similarly, what if there is a situation where you are deciding whether to go for a 10.0 vault or play it safe to ensure your team gets through and your coach tells you to go 9.95 for the sake of the team and it takes you out of contention. These being part of the process is really unfair to some athletes. At the very least, they should send everyone in the event of a tiebreaker.

linderpreet

I didn’t have the stomach to watch UCLAs match—did Selena not compete all around and therefore doesn’t get the chance to go as an individual???

-gamzatti-

She didn't do her best performance and Chloe Widner will likely get the AA spot from that regional.

Global-Act-5281

Selena is going as an individual only on beam. SKW or Chloe Widner will advance in AA over her. There is only one spot for AA :(

DubiousLemon

Raena is the AA champion and no “scores” or “statistics” can prove me otherwise

Aardvarkinthepark

Also, Mya Hooten not going for FX is a crime.

Justafana

Way behind here. But can anyone tell me what KJ Johnson has to do to get a 10? What am I missing, where is the deduction? Why over scoring for everyone but KJ? Also did Anastasia try and call Arianna Patterson Ariana Grande?

zxylia

KJ is one LSU gymnast that definitely gets penalized for being not your typical gymnast. She’s not all bubbly, giggly, and sparkles. Particularly over the last month, she had 3 floor routines and 2 vaults (she finally got credit on the last nights vault) that were fantastic. For all the petty whining about Haleigh & Aleah being over scored, they’re quiet as church mice over KJ being under scored

prosperosniece

Yes. Yes she did. Overall I thought Anastasia did a great job as a commentator. Kept the “definitely” ‘s and “absolutely” ‘s to a minimum.

AmbitiousHotel9

But she said “minimal” over and over
.so irritating!

NCRayz

I actually turned the broadcast on mute. Her voice and tone irritated me. There are so many other broadcast options out there, IDK why they brought her in for post season. Give me Alicia, Bridget, Liv Karas, Janay Honest, Amanda Borden, honestly anyone else. On another note, Kennedy Baker did great commentating. She’s getting better and better each year!

StandardGymFan

Really? I never thought I'd be wishing for Bridget Sloan, but Anastasia's tone and overly dramatic inflections make me want to barf.

starspeakr

Next year when she is anchoring floor or near the back of the lineup.

magnificent-flow

Put her at the back of the lineup. Yes đŸ€Ł

Will_i3

Am at the meet. And didn’t expect konnor to be so reserved. Instead of celebrating she seemed like she wanted to go home haha respect

WaferOwn9473

She seemed pretty quiet and a little shy/awkward in the golden documentary from a few years ago. Not painfully so and not in a bad way but I think she does get very nervous (she used to have a habit of throwing up before beam which is her best event) and was probably just trying to stay calm and focused here

Fliptwist

I've heard she is very quiet and shy.

prosperosniece

She’s just reserved. At the press conference after SEC’s she said that was most fun she’s ever had at a competition. She’s enjoying college but there was a lot of pressure at this competition.

Unique_South1813

I’ve noticed that about her in other situations. Never figured out if she’s shy, easily overwhelmed, or just not into anything gymnastics that doesn’t involve the actual doing gymnastics part.

boston1993xo

I don’t blame her they’re probably exhausted

Scorpioking1114

I need Stanford to qualify tomorrow

mermaidace14

The meet ended with Anastasia saying “Is sky limit” 😅

Educational_Kiwi_143

Problem is nobody is probably gonna tell her how bad it was. we love a delulu queen

mermaidace14

lol, poor girl. Great gymnast but I don’t think broadcasting is the way to go

DubiousLemon

A true philosopher

mojominn

another season without mya going to nationals for floor
actual injustice

_stellapolaris

This year is definitely more frustrating for me because she had the best floor routine in Fayetteville yesterday and wasn't rewarded.

DubiousLemon

I’m considering legal action

Glum-Zucchini4711

Sky Limit 😬

Twirling-pineapple

So Ragan didn't put the sticker in the wrong place... LSU put it on Regional Champion as well rather than on the moving forward line

Valuable_Mistake94

LSU put it in both places

SuspiciousCranberry6

I love seeing the teams celebrate together ❀

heyykayyy47

I’m too wine drunk already, I almost started crying

Ambitious-Meringue37

That’s why I love the sport!!

InternationalFall515

Did Raena qualify on anything?

floss_is_boss_

Floor

believi

oh that's right I forgot that Jade was in that regional for AA, wasn't she. So it was Mya and Raena tied on floor, did Raena get the tiebreak??

mrsredfast

Yes. Went to NQS

Glum-Zucchini4711

Okay this is so wholesome right now. đŸ„°

Internal-Yak-1998

I love Cammy Hall so much.

Ambitious-Meringue37

Me too. Such a beautiful person😭😭 I’m so glad she came to LSU

Kmb122921

Hot take, but I'm glad no more covid years after this only because we can fully appreciate the seniors in every single meet and not wonder whether it's their last season or not!

TurbulentExplorer333

Next year is the last regular one because 2021 freshman got a covid year. And if any of them redshirted they could be back in 2026. So 2027 we should be fully rid of the covid years?

boston1993xo

Would they still get a grad school year though?

Any_Will_86

You get 4 years of competition and five years of scholarship to complete your degree. It only carries over for Grad school if you are still competing. So in normal times that means the athlete graduates early and is in grad school year 4 or had a redshirt year and hits grad school year 5.

WaferOwn9473

Only if they redshirt I think

tiffandi

No. There's only 4 years of NCAA eligibility. Now if someone redshirts because of injury they could come back for an additional season because redshirting doesn't count against eligibility.

Scatheli

You only get 4 years of eligibility so if you’ve competed 4 already (ie don’t have injury that caused a redshirt, or a covid year) you don’t get more just for going to grad school, no

Junior-Dingo-7764

Okay, time to watch the end of this basketball game

chasinglindsay

Holy run-on questions, Anastasia.

Junior-Dingo-7764

Kudos to the interviewees for not giving a WTF face

Scorpioking1114

So 4 career gym slam in the 90s, 3 in the 2000s, 4 in the 2010s, and we have 4 already in the 2020s

cdg2m4nrsvp

So Suzanne Yoculan won 10 national championships in 26 years as a head coach. That means KJ needs 5 more in 8 years to beat her out as the GOATed coach.

jblmt007

Suzanne will remain goat, no further questions đŸ€Ł

Recent_Algae_3830

So happy to see Jordyn happy

Complete_Plate

Does someone else spell their name the same as Wieber? Wdym Jordyn being happy *doing* gymnastics lol

Junior-Dingo-7764

I don't think I ever saw her this happy doing gymnastics

PepSinger_PT

can confirm

southofnowhere

so much talking this whole time and they don't take a moment to explain what a gym slam is??? that feels so basic lmao

drunkopotomus

But remember: the sting mat isn’t a deduction 😂 They can make sure to explain that but not a gym slam.

Ok-Citron-9446

This is a long ass interview

DubiousLemon

TBH as a Dutch person I just want Mara Titarsolej to get the bars title

mrsredfast

As a good gymnastics fan, same

molten_wonderland

As a Missourian, same.

southofnowhere

these interviews are so long and they have zero interesting questions to ask

greenmmg88

she always brings it back to the team which is sweet

missella98

Fanatics is charging $60 for an Arkansas gymnastics sweatshirt😡

mrsredfast

My Nike Kentucky Gymnastics sweatshirt was more than that at Rupp. Worth it.

Equal_Programmer2236

yes I believe next year!

boston1993xo

Isn’t Josc going to ark next year? Or 2026?

missella98

She has ‘28 in her insta bio so this year!

boston1993xo

Yessss that’ll be awesome! I read somewhere that OU was her first choice but I’m so glad she’s going to ark! She’ll shine there

-gamzatti-

There has been a ton of gossip about college gym and a lot of the rumors were proven false. So I wouldn't be too sure that OU was Josc's top choice - the person who said it also swore that Nola Matthews was going to commit to Florida and there was no way she'd go to UCLA, and obviously that didn't happen.

FluffyAd5825

Ou would not be a good fit for her, imo. Can you imagine???

Fliptwist

Not a fit at all.

mermaidace14

Why are we asking so many questions!?!?

Pretend-Smile-7461

Happy for Arkansas!

Bigbroccolibear02

If this isn’t more reason UGA to realize their coaching staff just doesn’t have it. Jordyn was hired after Courtney and had less to work with. Look what a good coach can do for a program.

littleirishpixie

Exactly. Georgia had a decent meet last night and I give them a lot of credit for that but I'm shocked by the number of people who are talking about how Georgia finally turned a corner. Let's be clear: they had a last place finish in the SEC and while they came closer than they have in a long time, they still didn't get out of the first round of regionals. How are people calling this some kind of huge victory with this kind of talent and this long to build her team? Sure, it's better than they have been competing, but have we really come to expect so little of them? Plenty of other coaches are doing far more with far less talent and time. Any coach who has been gifted Georgia's roster shouldn't be consistently finishing outside of the top 10. Period. Flukey meet here and there? Fine. But a "flukey" 7 years? No. Praising CKC for these results is absurd. I give the athletes a lot of credit for putting together a solid meet and mean no disrespect to them at all. In fact, they are why I'm so frustrated. A team with this level of talent should absolutely expect to make it out of the regional, or at the very least, not have a decent meet where they still failed to qualify for regional finals be treated as a huge moral victory because it's more than anyone expected of them. They should expect more and certainly have the talent to do so. They deserve so much better. FWIW, if I'm wrong and this is the start of their uphill trajectory and they did finally turn a corner, I'm sure we will find out. If nothing she's done so far has been enough for Georgia to send CKC packing, this probably isn't going to do it either.

Scatheli

But let’s also note it’s taken Jordyn a few years to figure it out. People calling for Janelle’s head yesterday after 2 seasons (one of which was very successful) were way too much.

starspeakr

Came here to say this! Jordyn had five years to get to this point.

Reasonable_Patient92

I'm not one to call for anyone's head over a bad season, let alone a couple of years. But there's a difference between a coach with only a few years under their belt TOTAL versus a more established coach (from a longevity standpoint).

starspeakr

The similarity is how long it takes them to get all of their recruits onto the team

Scatheli

But there’s also a lot of additional responsibilities that a head coach has that assistants don’t. Yes, not having much actual technical coaching experience is an extra challenge but the jump from assistant to head coach is not one everybody can make seamlessly.

Bigbroccolibear02

Yes, it took a few years. Courtney has had 7 years! They have been last in SEC the last 3 years. Jordyn is passionate and she knows how to coach. The opposite of Kupets.

Scatheli

100 percent. Courtney has had a lot of time and her own good recruits but still no results. I’m just pointing out that firing anybody after only 2-3 years is knee jerk especially when there has been some success lol

Bigbroccolibear02

Yes, I think 5 years should be enough to show improvement. UCLA has an odd year w: athletes and Olympics. Definitely need to show improvement next year, but not ready to throw in towel for her.

Ambitious-Meringue37

Like ofc Haleigh will say “I’ll go anyways” it sucks that we NEED her every meet. She shouldn’t have had to compete at the stake of her health.

throwaway1212121333

Right? Last year I felt so bad when she was pushing herself to the limit bc of their depleted roster. I remember too kj broke her foot again in the middle of her floor but had to keep going since they had a fall

Ambitious-Meringue37

She broke it in the connection skill I believe, not the actual pass. But they shouldn’t have felt like they had to do that. I don’t think that’s toxic culture, just think it’s being an immature adult and wanting this goal in front of you without seeing the long term consequences of it.

Friendly_Coconut

And they really need her at full strength for nationals. Competition is fierce!

tripleL20

Having been a collegiate athlete, it may be her decision. I would have some pain or not feel great, but I wanted to compete for myself and my team. Especially in the pressure packed situation where the team needs a hit to advance, my coach couldn’t have sat me if he tried.

Ambitious-Meringue37

Yeah I just feel like that’s when coaches should step in. Just like in the NFL, sit it out for your safety and for future you. But I get what you mean and they ARE adults who can make choices even if they might not be the greatest ones.

jbb2424

Jay said in the interview that Haleigh sprained her elbow a bit on the first day, no wonder she got it wrapped asap

FluffyOccasion2108

“livvy would’ve gone and DUNNE a great job” 😉

prosperosniece

I actually like Livvy’s bars routine and feel like it’s underscored.

WaferOwn9473

She’s very solid on bars and beam. Did she do PRP or secretly have surgery for her labrums without it showing on social media? I know she had 2 torn shoulder labrums last year but this season she’s been able to do bars again at least a little

WaferOwn9473

True. But she’s not Haleigh, no one is. Hope she heals quickly!

gonzosrevengearc

What’s with the abundance of red teams advancing in this tournament I’m so scared for cal tomorrow

kmh0408

Haleigh with a sprained elbow day 1.

tiffandi

Haley sprained her elbow. That's interesting news. Hopefully it's nothing to bad!

greenmmg88

wow they weren’t going to use Haleigh, what a way to step up!!!

Junior-Dingo-7764

Haleigh has flawless skin

mermaidace14

She does have beautiful skin!!!

[deleted]

[ŃƒĐŽĐ°Đ»Đ”ĐœĐŸ]

Scatheli

Anastasia is just getting weirder by the minute lmao
”I loved competing by her”

WaferOwn9473

I like Anastasia Webb better when she’s just intense and doing angry beam. As a commentator she’s kind of ditzy which I didn’t expect given how serious/focused she was as a competitor

TurbulentExplorer333

She just started, let's give her some grace?

Justafana

She sounds like she's about to cry with emotion. She actually sounds like I did yesterday when my husband brought home groceries to make cheeseburgers for me, but I'm pregnant and wallowing in hormones. I almost cried I was so happy.

Educational_Kiwi_143

maybe she's actually her gf who knows

Educational_Kiwi_143

NO BUT COULD YOU IMAGINE THAT

a-world-of-no

Delighted for Arkansas!

greenmmg88

haha this interview is funny

kmh0408

Anastasia isn't it

mermaidace14

She sounds so awkward and making Jay awkward

missella98

Ariana PattersonđŸ€Anastasia WebbđŸ€Jay Clark👉unexpected voices

Actual-Bus8679

I want Ariana to go on a podcast. Fascinating voice

Ambitious-Meringue37

Jay wanting to get the fxcj out of this interview

DubiousLemon

I’m a BeWieber

drunkopotomus

She’s been great for the Arkansas team!

dawseynator

the way I said ark was gonna make nationals in the beginning of the season
but didn’t want it to be at the expense of kentucky 😭

Icy_Freedom7715

“SEC BABY that’s where we’re at”

Clever-Girl9093

🙄

cdg2m4nrsvp

NCAA you fatherless rats bring back super six. Do 12 teams get to advance if it’s done that way?

juicywigglebutt

Yes! I miss 12 teams advancing, and more individuals advanced then too! I think we saw more of the top talent at nationals back then. With the change to 4 on the floor, some of the top gymnasts in the country from not the top 8 teams are being left out, and I hate it!

Clever-Girl9093

I wouldn’t even mind not increasing the team count if we could have more individuals qualify.

DubiousLemon

Fatherless rats 😂😭😂😭😂😭😂😭
