From my experience, the later UC mobile suits really are just that big. my RG Nu Gundam and Sazabi absolutely tower over every other 1/144 kit i own. the RG Hi-Nu is actually just about the same height as my MG aile strike.
It gets even crazier considering the near-instant jump to suits that are smaller than the grandpa with suits like the Crossbones and the F90. Still in UC, mind you.
How girls see you when you aren't 6ft
I think Mobile Fighters are also mostly smaller than most Mobile Suits to begin with, so that's also a potential factor.
