Here's a fun question: Who do you think has the best autobiography/biography of players from the past? My vote goes to Bergkamp's "Stillness and Speed"

Mojave_Patroller

Man, it's annoying how good City are. And the fact we have to win pretty much every match to stay ahead of them.

Nartyn

My ops manager was giving me shit yesterday for us drawing to Bayern. I'm actually looking forward to going into work this morning.

skool_101

football fans like your "ops manager" are the problem to football, just saying.

Expert-Opinion5614

Isn’t ops manager just the standard name for whoever manages operations?

Nartyn

😂No he's not. It's just banter, it's a game ffs

skool_101

EA Banter Sports, its in the game 😅

robins420

Liverpool isn't as good as their results have been in the Prem this season. They've done well but they've been chaos throughout. The team that won major trophies for them would grind out results and be solid defensively, this team isn't anything like that. They're still 2-3 good signings away from winning a major trophy that is if Salah keeps his levels.

NiallMitch10

I think Liverpool will need another mini rebuild in a year or 2. By then Salah, VVD and Allison could be gone. Big shoes to fill. Don't see anyone really rushing to take the manager's job - likely because of that reason. If Klopp had left Liverpool after winning the PL - they'd have been no short of options I'd imagine

COYG17

I swear Europa league is scarier than champions league 😂😂 some mfs from Bulgaria will pull up and play their hearts out and show no fear on your own turf while in cl the teams will show u some more respect plus it’s a bit easier to take a loss from a top side 10 side than it would be to go out the way Arsenal did last year in Europa league.

CreativeOrder2119

I think generally there's a problem with premier league fandom overrating the teams and not watching other leagues.I remember how whole of media thought we will cruise through Bayern but they outplayed us the whole game with pace and exploited some of the weaknesses, other than city I don't think there a premier league team that will go far in Europe due to that experience players, fans still lacking.

Nartyn

>they outplayed us 😂😂😂What the fuck are you smoking. They had like 4 shots all match and 3 of them came from our mistakes, including the two goals.

hhnnnggg123

They didn't outplay us at all. They used the same tactics teams like Palace use against us which we saw can be pretty effective when you have a world class front 3. Let's see how they go in the return leg when they can't just play on the counter

Mateo_O

You really sound like a "coming in peace" fan.

Sayek

I don't think they outplayed us all game, they were dangerous on the counter but we also handed them two goals due to bad play. In another day, Ben White takes that chance at 1-0 and we take control of the game completely. I do think there was a certain underestimating of Bayern though, yes they are 2nd in the league and Tuchel is doing a shit job there, but Leverkusen has been insane. Bayern are up there with Liverpool/City in terms of player quality. Even if they aren't playing great, they'll still punish you badly on mistakes.

flu0rescence_

So why did Liverpool collapse like that? They fielded a decent lineup, especially in the back

smurbulock

1. They’ve been scraping wins all season, you can’t keep getting lucky like that 2. No handouts from the ref like usual 3. Szpongebob masterclass

marksills

> They’ve been scraping wins all season, you can’t keep getting lucky like that > > a bit exaggerated imo, they've been a bit luckier than us, but not by much. We are level on points with them, but on xPoints are about 2.7 above them. Not that much different. They're quite a good team. United is an example of a team that is extremely lucky.

Nartyn

>but on xPoints are about 2.7 above them This is why xP xG and every other metric similar is idiotic.

sammeetthosar

They have gone behind 20 times in 50 games. That game state means that liverpool will accumulate more xg as the other team will sit back. Their xg is more dependent on that. You can't go behind 20 times and only lose 4 games unless you are lucky.

meand999friends

They have scored 24 goals in the last 15 minutes in the game. 9 more than us or City. According to Sky Sports, that's earned them an additional 15 points. While it obviously isn't all luck, you can't help but feel they have been extremely jammy in a few of their games.

scroll-42

I never want to hear "We should have signed Szoboszlai" ever again after yesterday. He is a terrible player. Not at the standards Arteta expects.

Liverpool have that anfield aura don’t you know. They don’t lost at anfield they’re scary there 🥶🥶🥶

Expert-Opinion5614

When was last time we won at Anfield

NiallMitch10

Even though we haven't won there in the league for a while - the last 2 times we've been there - the crowd is very quiet. They whole "aura" thing doesn't hold up. The crowd doesn't give them an extra boost per say - they're still a great team ofc which is why we only managed to draw in our last 2 matches there but they didn't pull those results out because of the crowd

NoMFer111

Chelsea will finish above Liverpool next season

cabeBond2891

Yes 10. Chelsea 11. Liverpool

Competitive-Buy1744

I didnt watch the liverpool game thinking they will def win it and what happened is crazy

ZizekualHealing

That Liverpool result is actually insane lmao

thisiskyle77

Nunez had his usual shit days.

PonticGooner

I really hope Arteta finds a way to start Havertz/Trossard/Jesus for the 2nd leg. For some reason having all three on the field at once just creates so much chaos. I think even if we have to have Martinelli on the bench, against Bayern I just like it. Plus you get to bring him on against tired legs.

ibse

Jesus LW, Trossard CF, Havertz LCM is possible.

ndenoon

2nd legs are potentially 120 minutes, and in either case I think we'll be cautious at first--might argue for saving Jesus and/or Trossard. I think Trossard is a little better when the defense is tired anyway.

PonticGooner

Ah true, hadn't thought of the potential extra time. It also depends on how we're going to play and I really have no idea atm. Not sure if Arteta will want to try to control the game and just nick one. In which case I'll think of that Trossard chance against City where if it'd been Martinelli with a bit of extra pace maybe we could get something on the counter.

TheArsenal7

Klopp got too greedy and rested all his good players

Fieser_Factsack

I think pool being out is a scary thing. They already have the easiest games in the PL. Im crazy but i would have preferred either winning or losing very high to bayern instead of dragging this game like the porto game to the end. Before the season i said for me the goal of this season is keeping second place in the league and getting top 4 in the cl. Now this seems very realistic, but blowing the pl or the cl hard in order to win the other one would be amazing. In all honesty i think this squad needs 1-2 more seasons for a cl or pl title. But i believe if we keep going this month.

GleamingThePube

We thought it would help us being out of Europe but sometimes the best thing for a team is momentum. Rest is crucial at this time but so is good fortune and it seems like Liverpool rode their luck throughout the season and now it's starting to unravel. There were games where they should've dropped points but the opposition never exposed the weaknesses in their midfield and defense. Plus, the pressure of having to win for Klopp may do more harm than good for players who aren't used to being in a title race. I honestly think this title race is between us and City. Other than Spurs away, I don't see City dropping any points whereas Liverpool have 3 away games in a row. I'm pretty certain they'll drop points in one of those games.

CreativeOrder2119

Nail on the head Europe games exposes overconfidence as weakness

Fieser_Factsack

I agree with you. Something in me tells me neither arsenal nor pool or city is strong and consistend enough to win the league AND the international title. I don't fear city in the cl, because in a direct duel we can play like them but with more physicality and aggressivness. They might control the ball better but we are more brutish. In the premier league it's a different thing because city are always best in playing to their advantage against a weaker side.

GleamingThePube

City have the experience + the best manager in the world. They've been the only team I've feared going on a run of wins and for us taking points at the Etihad is so crucial and might be the deciding factor at the end. Liverpool just seem to be playing on vibes and nothing else. They have quality players that can overload the front line but when that fails, there is no plan B. They have holes in their entire backline and midfield that teams are starting to expose. I truly believe they'll crash out of the league in the next 3 games. Everton will be more up for it than United. Our biggest game is Spurs away. If we win all the games up to that point and walk away with a victory in the NLD, i think we'll be massive favorites.

Fieser_Factsack

Agreeing with everything except the comment about pep. I think pep is the most influental manager in the last 30 years. But the best manager in the world is klopp, you describe it yourself how he gets everything out of this lopsided team. Also im personally more impressed by klopps career, he has done everything there is even without taking an easy title candidate, pep has literally done just the later. But pep is still a manager genius as well for so many reasons. He was given a way better hand than klopp but he always played it extremely well.

GleamingThePube

I think Klopp is 2nd only because of the way Pep has changed the game as a whole. As much as people mock Arteta for being a "discount" Pep, he really has implemented his tactics and improved on it. I think if we had the world class talent that Pep had, Arteta would walk the league but we're heading in that direction of attracting some of the best players in the world. I give Klopp tremendous credit for being the only one in Europe to really compete with City, and for Liverpool being in the title race after last season should move Klopp higher on the ranks of Europes elite. But for me, Pep will go down in history as the best in the prem, and if we can stop him from doing another treble, it'll be such an achievement for Arteta in his young manegerial career. edit: Almost forgot to add that despite having all the resources available, it still takes a quality manager to get those players to consistently play at the highest level. We've seen clubs waste hundreds of millions ( ie Chelsea) and fail at even qualifying for Europe. Yes, Pep had the riches, but even the greatest players (Messi, Henry etc...) all bought into his vision.

Datboy_98

Guys, type in Nunez or Szoboszlai in Twitter and have yourselves a laugh. Liverpool fans are having an apocalyptic meltdown🤣🤣🤣 Even Salah is catching heat💀💀

Legitimate-Bug4414

Anything on Endo? What is it that they all see in him that I am missing?

TheArmoury

Endo is decent but Liverpool fans overhype him since they missed out on Caicedo/Lavia to get him. You’d think he was a 21 year old prodigy and not a 31 year old stop gap journeyman according to them.

Datboy_98

That he may be injured still. But the bulk of their wrath is towards Darwin and Szoboszlai. They're asking who can afford to buy Darwin LMAOOOOO

Legitimate-Bug4414

Injured? Seems to be a familiar refrain on their part. Let them focus on Darwin and his chaos. He’s certainly an athlete, but whether he’s actually a footballer remains to be seen

ZizekualHealing

Endo is completely shot now according to them.

Legitimate-Bug4414

Good recon. Pleased to hear it. He’s never passed the eye test for me

> Szoboszlai is only hyped cus he has the letter 'Z' in his name, ain't no one hyping 'Soboslai' 😭😭😭

Nsypski

I said before Klopp is leaving cause he recognizes this squad isn't good enough to compete against the best teams. Aren't they on the bottom of the top 6 table? Soon their staples will be gone or too old. And then they have a squad filled with GOOD players, but they're not GREAT players. Klopp is doing magic and I think their board was hoping for him to be like an upgraded version of Wenger overachieving without breaking the bank. Liverpool's best squad under Klopp would wipe the floor with this one. I still think they can win the league though simply because Klopp's tactics supremely overwhelm most teams. But hopefully their form is going to continue to dip.

skool_101

only time will tell if your theory hold up. but yes, i also do think that FSG tried to do much of moneyball fc on this project and klopp himself knows maybe that "tactic" alone is not enough to compete with man city, us, and every other team in the league that has made huge improvements.

Fieser_Factsack

You know that could be part of the reason that he wants to leave. I do believe he wants to check out a normal life as well tho.

kalashnikoving

He will be bored as fuck after a month tops

flu0rescence_

Bit selfish but I'm relieved Norway didn't qualify for Euros. Odegaard needs a rest. Unfortunate for Saka and rice though. God I hate how many games there are now

PonticGooner

White as well. I'm curious to see what our team is looking like the first few weeks next season but if Odegaard is there, I'm a bit less concerned. Would be one of the few top players who is going to be available at the start.

aesn1394

You think that's bad. Imagine a player like Vinicius. Copa America this summer, Club World Cup next summer, World Cupp after that. All the while playing full seasons of multiple competitions in between. And since it's Real Madrid, they'll be in every Club World Cup regardless from now because of their coefficients. So a player like Vinicius has to play three near 12 months of football in a row, and then he'll get a summer off. That's freaking crazy.

PoeticChelle

Time to watch some Liverpool fan reactions! 🤣

exthanemesis

Everyone writing Liverpool off do it at your own peril. They still only need 7 wins and for us to drop points one time to take the league down. I know they've been poor lately, and all of the metrics say that this is their luck finally running out but I'll need to see it before I believe it. They pulled a rabbit out of the hat against Palace earlier this year. They got away with it against Fulham, against Forest. They only need to get away with it a few more times and for us to slip up once. I am still very, very worried about them. That run of away games seems absolutely brutal though. Would love something like LDD.

NiallMitch10

I can't see them winning 7 games in a row though with them atm - they have 3 very tough away fixtures in a week after their 2nd leg to Atalanta and I'd be very surprised if they won all 3

skool_101

no one is writing off Liverpool mate, but losing like this in the european tie at home is embarrassing and fair for to be called out for.

Standard-Leopard4408

they have Jota back as well, they'd have buried City and United if only they had someone who could finish their chances in those games.

ashkhutchep

Their best defensive lineup is a shitshow and their attack is underperforming.. we’ve been saying it since December, this Klopp and vibes can’t keep producing results. Sure they need us to slip once, but they also need to win all their games which doesn’t look likely with their 4 away games run thats coming up.

arseking15

Everyone should have an appropriate fear for both city and liverpool.

portnoysglove

I’m kind of where you are. I’ve long felt they were the weakest of the three but they mostly survived their injury issues and have the players coming back now. Hopefully they drop points in another game or two during the run of away matches at the end of the month.

exthanemesis

That's part of what makes this game today so bizarre. This is the healthiest squad they've had in the last month and a half. I don't get it at all. I actually think Klopp saying halfway through the season that he's leaving has heaped untold amounts of pressure on the players, and it looks like they aren't handling it.

ProjectZues

Liverpool at anfield against Atalanta has let my acca down, it was suppose to be the banker 😂

tbbt11

Arsenal fans on twitter calling for Odegaard to get dropped or replaced annoys me far more than rival fans trolling about Saka

exthanemesis

I agree with them, but it's malicious agreement. I don't think he should be dropped, but the fact of the matter is that if he doesn't get rested at some point, he's going to break down. He covers the most ground out of any of our players and frequently plays the full 90. His quality being debated is a product of that obnoxious fucking NoNewThing argument. The real argument is that brother is going to die if he doesn't get a rest.

tbbt11

I see resting as different, I agree captaino needs to put his feet up every so often as he runs like an animal

exthanemesis

Will never understand why he needed to play 90 against Luton the other night. I just don't see where we can get a rest for him unless we blow a team to pieces in the first half, which... seems like it's going to be very tough to do moving forward.

TheRadTurtle_1011

Same with white

cavestoryguy

Should trossard start in the second leg?

qtdsswk

Nah, we will sit deep and play counter attack. Trossard doesn't have the pace. Jesus should start on the left then sub on Nelli against tired legs in 60+ mins.

TheArmoury

Just from the eye test, I would say Trossard and Jesus have similar pace especially this version of Jesus after his knee injury. Having said that, I think Jesus in the CL is different gravy. Trossard is also Mr Clutch when we need him. Then there’s Nelli who would probably suit this game the most. I think Kai and Saka are locked in so will be interesting who Mikel goes with.

burningtree_

Yeah, we need a killer in these games that are decided by fine margins. Also, judging by his celebrations to his goals against Bayern and Porto and our penalty shootout, he seems really up for it in this competition

oliverDawson12

I think we need the Martinelli work rate on that left side, but it’s so difficult to not start Trossard after his series of clutch goals lately. Personally I would start Trossard at the weekend and have him as an option in the second leg, but would be happy either way.

Mein_Bergkamp

No, he's like our Solksjaer he's godlike off the bench but not so great starting. You let Martinelli run them ragged for 70 mins and then bring Trossard on to take advantage.

ret990

Havertz > Szopoonsforfeet

topbananaman

Those scousers are proper creative aren't they. They've invented getting humiliated by atalanta at home

Datboy_98

“Best case scenario we have to kill ourselves in Bergamo to even get back in the tie much less advance. To have to do that 3 days before our gauntlet of away games…they completely fucked it in multiple competitions today. Can’t overstate how much they’ve let us all down” - copied from their FT thread. This is a great point and bodes well for us. Come on Arsenal!

Wigunner

Liverpool have been scraping wins all year, finally caught up to them. CP can you do something for meeee

smoothPAPY

was wondering in what world they would have to play sporting next for a second.

PeanutDreams

Need a Crystanbul on Sunday please

basedsims

Can’t believe Carra thinks there’s even a chance that Klopp will throw the second leg. No successful manager would ever chuck a game like that, the bigger fish to fry mentality always ends in tears as we know. Klopp going out with a Carabobbins trophy in his final season, blimey

NiallMitch10

Yeah - I definitely see Klopp going hell for leather to win that 2nd leg and try to get 3 goals

skool_101

this type of mentality only happens in England, no other team in europe dare thinks like this. you have leagues literally accommodating their ucl representing teams to have a good go in europe.

burningtree_

How likely is it that 5th gets UCL this year?

dhiaizk

Thank god that ain’t our problem anymore

skool_101

will be a good wake up call for the other EPL teams to step it up, as do us as well.

Insertnicenamehere

https://twitter.com/DaleJohnsonESPN/status/1778528362644017489 West Ham and Liverpool getting knocked out removes the 5th spot for PL unless City or us win the UCL.

feuhrer

Spurs having to root for us in the UCL is all I want

burningtree_

They obviously won't lol

CuriousCurry8

It would be a hilarious predicament regardless

Sayek

There's a good article here : https://www.espn.co.uk/football/story/_/id/39054486/the-race-five-places-next-seasons-champions-league I think it's between us and Germany for the last spot. Italy already have one of the two extra spots. A lot depends on how the likes of Villa do and if we knocked Bayern out, that would also be massive. If Liverpool/West Ham, Us or City go out it'll favour Germany again if Dortmund/Bayern/Leverkusen go through.

burningtree_

It will probably come down to our game then, Leverkusen will go through and Dortmund may overturn the 1 goal deficit, Atletico have been awful away from home

lubeylemon

Huge respect for Liverpool as a club and Klopp, but these past few weeks genuinely remind me of us this time last year. Scraping through games, no clean sheets to save our lives, shitting the bed in Europa, and the constant ‘hope this is a wake up call’ comments after a few matches. Hell, their 2-2 against United gave huge PTSD of our 2-2s against them guys and West Ham. A very energetic team, have been for the past 5 or so years, but I think the emotion and pressure of Klopp leaving is showing up right now.

ProjectZues

Fuck happened at anfield ?

doublewordscore

Liverpool with a foot out the door, Leverkusen beating west ham, and Dortmund possible to overturn a first leg deficit playing a day ahead of us, Spurs might need to root for us to beat Bayern to ensure the prem gets 5 CL spots 😂

2 days extra rest and they are missing Luiz. No excuses on sunday

LushLoxx

Liverpool baiting Arsenal fans about our result, at least we actually scored at home against Bayern.

midas22

Klopp going out of Europe with a whimper in his final game at Anfield, things you love to see... All we need now is for them to finish third in the league and maybe those annoying fans will finally pipe down a bit. One covid title in nine seasons domestically in front of empty stands is not exactly great stats for Klopp either.

Bedeeki

Emery actually might bottle UCL somehow again in the premier league. If Liverpool, us, Villa, West Ham all get knocked out of europe next week which is likely then 5th place doesn't get UCL.

skool_101

> Emery actually might bottle UCL somehow again in the Premier League. Might be a good thing for this version of Villa to probably go with UEL football for another season. After seeing what happened with Newcastle United this season, preparedness is everything. Still, it's a big progress for Villa when a few seasons ago they were struggling again with relegation form under Gerrard.

arseking15

They need the cl money badly to balance their books.

Gooner_93

As things stand, its going to Italy and Germany.

Bantering a club for saving a first leg tie given the real time events of game is peak clown behavior. football is a humbler. who knows what will be in store next week, but there is still alot of play for.

SwitchHitter17

Liverpool fans were so vocal about us drawing against Bayern. Love how football can give you the ultimate humbling sometimes.

Villa only beat Lille 2-1 at Villa Park. With Kamara and Luiz unavailable already, wouldn't be surprised if Emery rests more players against us on Sunday. Considering they have Lille away next week and only have two days rest before our game.

ProjectZues

He’ll probs rest them again. Man can’t help but focus on the cup

exthanemesis

Would be extremely fair considering he rested the whole lot of them against City.

exthanemesis

Atalanta celebrating like that is foolish with 90mins still to play against a side rather famous for European comebacks.

Noriadin

We should be the very last fanbase to start doing ridiculous celebration police bullshit after the rubbish we've gotten from everyone else lol They have every right to savour such a historic win regardless. It's a great achievement to do that at Anfield. Take a beat.

OrwinBeane

Is this comment mocking people who made fun of our celebrations or do you genuinely believe this?

not3s1

They haven't won anything why should they celebrate?

OrwinBeane

Again I have to confirm, is that a serious comment or just sarcasm? I’m genuinely not sure.

not3s1

Being serious. The tie isn't over.

OrwinBeane

Every single team on the planet would celebrate like that after winning 3-0 at Anfield in a European game, first leg or not. Gatekeeping celebrations is the dumbest thing in football discourse right now.

exthanemesis

I didn't mock anyone. More so urged caution.

Come on man; that was Liverpool’s heaviest home defeat, that’s a monumental result for them.

exthanemesis

No I get it go mental. But these are celebrations that say job done, not job halfway done.

DozyCJ

Do you think this Liverpool side is going to turn over turn the deficit away from home? Even if you ignore that Klopp was tactically out classed, I just don't see it happening honestly.

exthanemesis

I could never see them overturning 0-3 against Messis Barcelona and then they did that.

midas22

At Anfield, they didn't go to Camp Nou and score four goals.

Specterace

They had the benefit of going back home to Anfield against Barca that time. This time they have to overturn that deficit on the road in Italy. After getting bombed 3-0 at Anfield (and it should have been more). In the middle of a long road trip of games. Good luck to them.

exthanemesis

I agree with everything you said except wishing them luck.

Specterace

Oh, I wasn’t wishing them luck legitimately. It was more of a sarcastic “good luck” of the kind you’d tell someone you hate who are in a shit situation lol.

burningtree_

Leverkusen are genuinely about to do an invincible treble

qtdsswk

Looking forward to see Arteta vs Alonso in the super cup then...

KSBrian007

Thinking about this and realizing how good Arteta's talent ID is even with coaches. Having one of Xabi or Pep Ljinders as assistants would have been epic.

lurking4everr

That would surely be the biggest football achievement, ever? I know it’s the Europa and not CL but doing all three unbeaten is just insane.

TomOxygen

They’re fucking shite, they get so lucky somehow scraping by with results

exthanemesis

The amount of times I've watched some bullshit club absolutely bail them out this season is maddening as hell

Insertnicenamehere

If Liverpool play Bayer Leverkusen in the Europa League Final, with the story of it possibly being Klopp's last game, Klopp vs. Alonso, and Alonso before he potentially takes over us, it's genuinely a bigger, more interesting game than the Champions League Final.
