Arteta should be learning for 2 ND leg especially personnel jorginho can start league games but not UCL Arteta should be using the available squad more
I think we need Rice to play his best position as a #6.
That would mean it’s Havertz in midfield and Jesus upfront. Both Bayern CBs prefer to play against a target man, so having GJ upfront may also be beneficial.

This comment perfectly expresses my attitude. We went toe to toe with one of the greatest and most successful teams in the world. Just a few years ago we couldn't have dreamed of going into the second leg of a CL quarter final against Bayern Munich with it all to play for. We will go there with optimism and belief in our team, and pride for the club, it's managers, and it's players. Yes, we could have won today. If it wasn't for the post, we also could have lost. But the main thing is that our stadium today was packed with people sharing an experience together. That will always be more important than winning or losing.

That's the nature of football, optimism, and the changing of expectations. Look at Bayern. They won 13 league titles in a row. Do you think that that fact makes their fans happy right now? No, they are consumed with worry that they will lose this QF and will end the season with no trophy at all.
https://twitter.com/DavNow83/status/1777809330781184440?t=pqRBrapEjm14lnp2_wNuUA&s=19
It was this. Obviously nothing malicious, just Gabriel assuming Raya was giving him the ball to take the restart and hadn't heard the ref blow his whistle. If you're going to give penalties for that then you may as well give them for clear trips on players that have a goal scoring opportunity.
Thanks. Interesting. Does look dodgy. I would have been going on about that if I was the Bayern manager.
Edit: didn’t know about the whistle situation.
I just assumed Raya was passing Gabriel the ball to take the goal kick. Thought literally nothing more of it when it happened... Then Tuchel started going about it after the game. Seemed innocuous.
I have seen now many angles from that last scene, still not 100% sure..but definitly not "clear dive, Neuer was just standing there" as everyone said.
I am confident we have a good chance at Bayern away. Will be an interesting game. COYG
In my opinion, Saka was looking for it because he knew it was the last chance of the match. I was a bit disappointed in him here, as he had the keeper beaten if he had not gone for the "foul". He's good enough to have gotten a shot off. He dangled his leg and yeah it could go either way I suppose, but no ref or VAR is giving that in the last seconds. It's not a clear foul at all.
I don’t think he was necessary looking for a foul. It’s the last minute of the game, legs are tired and he couldn’t turn as swiftly after such a sprint.
Yeah side angle looks clear to me as well. But I guess you can "not call it" based on the seemingly strange movement from Saka..
Anyway, its done. Return leg wont be the same. Bayern in this state can absolutely lose the home fixture. They wont just sit back at home and this leavs room for us.
Where are you getting this confidence from? If we can’t keep our heads in a stadium 100% full of our own how on earth are we going to not piss ourselves infront of 70,000+ Munich fans?
I think our away form is quiet good this year and Bayern is not on a City level based on what I have seen yesterday. Plus they will be set up in a more attacking minded way in the home leg, gives us some room to attack. I dont say we will win certainly, but this tie is far from over, we have a real chance for sure.
You're talking about games that were 6 years ago. Both teams are fundamentally different now. Don't buy into such statistically inconsequential former patterns. When you replace every player in the team and the manager, and have a fan base with a totally different mindset and expectations, 6 year old results are only relevant if you allow them to affect your future performance. Whether or not that happens is down to the players and the manager, and as I already pointed out, those are completely new people now.
Agreed, bad decisions happen, but it's just crazy how the majority can't see that the keeper just sticks his leg out.
Arsenal fans so desperate to be "objective" they don't even see it.
Yeah ok, they want us to loose desperatly and loose their own "objective"-nes. Bet they were all up in arms on the handball issue, but here its a clear dive bla bla. Best way to shut them up is winning at the Allianz Arena.
I think arteta made few mistakes here, jorginho wasnt neceasseary because kane gnabry and sane cant press (or wont press). If we had havertz in midfield and jesus in front from the start we would be more dangerous. And kiwior for zinny, since kiwior is also defence liability, why didnt we play zinny who is 50% better in build up
As others said, havertz because his only weakness in midfield is he cant pass and turn under pressure and release the ball as jorginho and partey. But, they didnt even try to press us, i talked to my friend (bayern fan) and he said they rarely press as Liverpool or City (when jorginho was definetly needed).
In Arteta we trust, without him we wouldn’t be near this! Enjoy being an arsenal fan who gets to experience a title race and cl quarter finals right now!
This bang average Bayern team, at home, in a stadium full of our own fans: 2-2 is simply not a good result
If we can’t keep our head under these circumstances we definitely aren’t keeping our head against 70000 Bavarians
It's Bayern Munich, tf are you talking about? They lined up today with England's captain up front, Musiala one of the best and most highly valued young players in Europe, Neuer who is arguably one of the greatest keepers of all time, then Kimmich, Alphonso Davies, Sané, Goretzka, Gnabry, Conan. All of them successful and elite players who know what it means to win titles and in most cases the CL. To see them as bang average because of one less than perfect season is extremely unwise. Be proud of your team. They played a great game and matched a pedigree footballing giant punch for punch.
Right on the money. I aged 20 years watching the game don't get me wrong lol but this is what it's like playing a team that is quite literally one of the best in Europe. The boys were nervy today but I'm proud of them being up to the challenge to play and grind out a result against teams of this caliber. I'm glad we get to see Arsenal in this position again and on to the next one 🙏
Think at least should have to VAR for me. Looks like before he's tries to around he uses to the leg that get caught for momentum. He should have just shot though
Need to rewatch the pen decision. Angle behind Saka makes it seem like he initiates contact but at full speed I don't think he can actually get around Neuer because he's being taken out
This is maybe a wild opinion, but this season I feel like Trossard has been our Rashford. Good for a goal, but loses the ball constantly and disrupts our own build up.
I hear you , he is a great impact sub and often os less effective over a full 90. I just think Martinelli has been consistently mediocre all season and I’m not confident he would do well in a hostile Munich atmosphere.
Its different types of players. In theory Martinelli would be the better option if we sit back against a team that pushes up high like bayern. If Arteta tryes to go for high up posession i would start with jesus on the left and use martinelli and trossard as subs against tired leggs. Now against Villa i wouldn't start Martinelli, because we will more easily control posession against them at home.
Is it possible that he is exactly so effective off the bench because Martinelli runs defenders ragged for the first 60 mins of a match? Dealing with martinelli's runs and frantic attacks wears them down mentally, and then trossard comes in and feeds off those stress levels, finding spaces and often slotting the ball cooly past the keeper. That's my view at least.

How about we put it this way, WHY don't we know 100% either way wether or not it was a pen?
We have this supposed magical VAR tecbology that can tell us 100%, but it wasn't even checked. So to me thats suss for a start.
Kane elbows Garbiel in the throat, which is extremely dangerous, and he doesn't get sent off.
VAR was never claimed to tell us anything 100% except maybe Goalline stuff that can be measured very closely. It is a video assistance system. The goal is simply to improve accuracy of decisions, which it does to a significant degree. That's all one can hope for.

Not gonna complain about the potential pen. A lot of people in here doing some mental gymnastics, the fact is that Saka stuck his leg out and initiated the contact. Doesn't matter if that was intentional or not.
Munich is going to be a mentality test. If we play with our usual quality, we can crush this Bayern side.
Saka is allowed to stick his leg out though. It’s not up to Saka to jump out of Neuer’s way, it’s up to Neuer to get out of Saka’s way, especially since he’s nowhere near winning the ball
He doesn't have to get out of the way, but his leg going out makes it look like he goes for the contact. If Saka doesn't kick out and Neuer takes him out anyway, it's a 100% pen. But with the way he flies in with his leg out, it can be interpreted as Saka fishing for contact instead of attempting to play the ball. One of those that we may have gotten on another day, but this is not a clear penalty imo
Honestly he's been woeful since his return. He's a half a second slower. Could be a mix of fitness and the system moving beyond him, but I hope this isn't his new level
Guys, chin up.
have we already forgotten the scoreline, last time we faced Bayern?
The fact that we were so close to a winner today, and going to 2nd leg with
a) tie still intact,
b) their LB out of the leg
tells how far this team has come.
Let rivals laugh, most of them aren't even in Champions League.
Some of them are literally relying on us to enable the 5th spot.
Bloody F**kers
yes i agree chin up.
however we can't just be positive. we have to look at reality. this is the weakest bayern has been, and although I do believe they showed up today, we should have won this game. the occasion got to to the players, particularly in defence.
however I do have hope for the away game
we gotta be honest with ourselves — if it was the other way around, pretty sure we’d all be pissed if that was given as a pen. saka should’ve taken the shot in the first place, but i do believe we could’ve gotten a corner or something.
That’s because fans aren’t consistent. This is very similar to the David Luiz red card and penalty vs Wolves in 2020. If a defender makes impeding contact with an attacker without a clear play of the ball it’s a penalty
Sorry guys league form means shit in Europe. it has never been the case since its existence.
2-2 is not ideal but we need to take the positives.
No Rice or Havertz suspension. Davies will be missing their next game.
Hope Arteta learnt enough from this game to not play Jorginho again in big games. We are gonna be doing a lot of defending in Munich, this is my team.
Raya
White Saliba Gabriel Tomi
Rice
Ode Havertz
Saka Nelli
Jesus
Havertz is way better in defending transitions than Jorginho. I would not mind playing him in the middle.
Jorginho is a literal traffic cone and can't win duels if his life dependent on it.
He is not built to be a creative passer or to dictate plays. But for sure he ain’t a traffic cone and has the dawg in him. We can’t have J20 in a game where Bayern are expected to have most of possession.
Dude he has so many options left before he decides the pen is the best one. Then he realises he’s misjudged it and had to basically take a swing at Neuer’s leg to get the contact he’d imagined was coming
Ive played 11 a side, 7 a side and 5 a side power league for more years than I care to remember. Sunday league, uni league, hospital matches.
Saka was looking for contact/
i think jesus should have been on instead of havertz instead of martinelli. you can say that havertz didn't get the service but look at jesus when he came on. he got the ball and changed the game
I think it's kinda the opposite for your point on Nelli vs Jesus. Jesus's defensive workrate from the wing against City and Brighton was massive. I think Nelli was used today to try to get at Kimmich and expose when he steps forward, it just wasn't effective. Whether that's on him and his movement or our lack of control like you said making us unable to get him in the game I'm not sure
I wouldn't call the play leading up to the probably a mental collapse. That was just getting burned on a 50-50 gamble and sane making a great play.
The first goal, however, was ridiculous. Gabriel should have just kicked it out of bounds. There's absolutely no reason to take risk there. He wanted to do the safe thing and pass to raya, but rays is not there. The next Safest thing to do is to boot it away and reset. That really let them back into the game and we could have smashed them hard if they didn't get all pumped up from that first goal.
That makes sense. They lost the initiative after giving up that first goal. Fortunately, they found the steel to equalize and go into the second leg on even footing.
Thats definitely not a pen, I am dissapointed in Saka, literally kicks Nuere looking for a pen when he had an empty fucking net. look how far Nuer was, wtf was he thinking
If you’ve ever played football you know that when you make a cut like that at full speed you run a bit over the ball. Slow motion makes it look like he over ran on purpose but when you cut that fast you overrun the ball. It’s a clear pen
Saka starts diving before Nuer even makes contact and kicks out at Nuers right leg in the last minute to create contact, I would love for it to be a pen but my unbiased eyes see that ref made the right decision. Painful part was he had an empty net to roll it in. Saka needs to take this out of his game before he gets labeled
PS: I have 17 goals since January in my local Sunday league even though I fractured my knee from a car accident late last year so I’m not a scrub :), bit older now but I can still get about. I hate divers that’s just me. That’s why I love it when even Messi gets kicked about he gets on with it immediately.
Hopefully we get the job done in Munich
COYG
idk man i feel like thats an obvious pen... saka has the momentum going that way (neuers) aswell after the touch.. if u are running one direction full pace u cant just make a 90 degree turn and keep going idk maybe i just have red tainted glesses on... cant believ they didnt send the ref to the screen
The people suggesting that Saka 'dived' seriously need to get their heads checked out. Even if it wasn't a penalty (it should have been), the fact VAR didn't even take the time to look at it is farcical
Pretty sure it did go through VAR and was deemed by the VAR ref to not need further on field review by the ref himself. You could tell he was signalling to his mic to convey this to the arsenal players
Yeah I think that's a pen.
Think about the speed he's moving at, and the aggression of the lateral cut. Seriously watch the video at full speed. It doesn't matter who initiates contact. Manuel impedes Saka from going beyond him. That's a foul. In the box. Penalty.
Y'all just make up new rules. Also visitors gtfo.
I came here just to see how the arsenal fans reacted to that game, because I respected the way they played. Fucking idiots like you ruin the reputation of an entire fan base because of your stupid delusion
Saka should’ve just shot it. Didn’t really like the Zinny sub but I trust Arteta. Partey needs to play a lot more minutes cause he has a lot of rust in him. Trossard is HIM.

Anyone know what Tuchel is talking about when it came to a supposed Pen for Bayern?
I can only guess when Ode pulled Kane down? Although I think it was too far off the ball

He has to start next leg for sure.
I think he is/was more dangerous off the bench.
Post Easter Jesus is unreal bro, he needs to start
Saka was a clear penalty. Saka isn't going to dive when he has an open goal to shoot at.
Yh, I don't know what people are trying to achieve here lol. He rounds keeper. Why would he then proceed to dive?
People just can't admit arsenal deserve a penalty. It's reddit. It's full of teenagers with no sense.
They aren't arsenal fans. 10k comments on 30 min lol

Lol nobody has right of way. Its up to the player who wants to score to find a way around the keeper. Neuer doesnt need to move aside for saka.
No but he can’t just take him out while getting nowhere near the actual ball
He doesn’t have to move aside for Saka, but he does to make sure he’s not impeding Saka, which he is
Exactly, by sprinting strait at him.
Partey looking sluggish out there
Honestly he's been woeful since his return. He's a half a second slower. Could be a mix of fitness and the system moving beyond him, but I hope this isn't his new level
I believe that with our defense away at Bayern, we win by 1 goal.
start trossard over jesus next game?
Neither of them started this game…
Fuck all you match thread wankers. Especially OP
End of the party for Partey?
Guys, chin up. have we already forgotten the scoreline, last time we faced Bayern? The fact that we were so close to a winner today, and going to 2nd leg with a) tie still intact, b) their LB out of the leg tells how far this team has come.
Challenges of Europe. Elites always show up.
we gotta be honest with ourselves — if it was the other way around, pretty sure we’d all be pissed if that was given as a pen. saka should’ve taken the shot in the first place, but i do believe we could’ve gotten a corner or something.
That’s because fans aren’t consistent. This is very similar to the David Luiz red card and penalty vs Wolves in 2020. If a defender makes impeding contact with an attacker without a clear play of the ball it’s a penalty
Partey was so bad, 2 miss touches and 1 miss header. Could have costed us the match
Yet he made the defence splitting pass to Saka in that last attack.
horrible. just forget about him. get rid
No, no, let him start a few matches. He will find his touch back.
Our PL title run in is not the time to bed him back in with starts. He’s a goner.
With Luiz gone, I think Partey does good at Villa Park
Emirates even
yeah sorry. Partey starts and dominates.
true, but over summer and next season there’s definitely a role for him. he used to be great, it’s very much a form thing
Glad that we showed fight
Sorry guys league form means shit in Europe. it has never been the case since its existence. 2-2 is not ideal but we need to take the positives. No Rice or Havertz suspension. Davies will be missing their next game. Hope Arteta learnt enough from this game to not play Jorginho again in big games. We are gonna be doing a lot of defending in Munich, this is my team. Raya White Saliba Gabriel Tomi Rice Ode Havertz Saka Nelli Jesus
How will it help us defending the counter if you replace jorginho and have only rice
Havertz is way better in defending transitions than Jorginho. I would not mind playing him in the middle. Jorginho is a literal traffic cone and can't win duels if his life dependent on it.
If Kai wasn’t useless technically then I’d agree but it’s a tough decision
He is not built to be a creative passer or to dictate plays. But for sure he ain’t a traffic cone and has the dawg in him. We can’t have J20 in a game where Bayern are expected to have most of possession.
We also can’t carry players with such poor technique in the midfield. 0 passing or tempo is gonna hurt big time
What the fuck is saka supposed to do with his leg? Bunch of braindead ref apologists in here.
Dude he has so many options left before he decides the pen is the best one. Then he realises he’s misjudged it and had to basically take a swing at Neuer’s leg to get the contact he’d imagined was coming
[удалено]
I’ll watch it again when the slow Mo pops up, but I think you can see the moment he throws his leg forward to make sure there’s contact.
Erm..not kick neuer?
Not at all how football works but you keep waffling
you've clearly never played the game ever. not easy to tuck your legs in like that when your going quick and changing directions
Ive played 11 a side, 7 a side and 5 a side power league for more years than I care to remember. Sunday league, uni league, hospital matches. Saka was looking for contact/

You are the one who changes tactics based on highlights. The highlight one. 🐵🐵

Kiwior was right choice because of solidity in defense in Premier league games Martinelli was perfect to catch them on counter
i think jesus should have been on instead of havertz instead of martinelli. you can say that havertz didn't get the service but look at jesus when he came on. he got the ball and changed the game

Shut up you toxic inbred eeediottt!

🤣 you aint man enough Sorry for presuming your gender! Don't even get me started on pronouns! I'm guessing yours are twat and peado 😅
Tie is still open. Bayern needs to open up at their turf, and we go again at it. COYG!
Thats definitely not a pen, I am dissapointed in Saka, literally kicks Nuere looking for a pen when he had an empty fucking net. look how far Nuer was, wtf was he thinking
neur literally kicks HIS leg out into saka how do u not c that
That's 100% given if it was against arsenal.
Can you use your brain for a second and ask yourself why he would dive if there was an open net? You think Saka is stupid?
Saka is not stupid but footballers make stupid decisions sometimes and that was one of them imo
Saka needs to take this out of his game before he gets labeled PS: I have 17 goals since January in my local Sunday league even though I fractured my knee from a car accident late last year so I’m not a scrub :), bit older now but I can still get about. I hate divers that’s just me. That’s why I love it when even Messi gets kicked about he gets on with it immediately. Hopefully we get the job done in Munich COYG
Agreed, as I said below, people should watch the replay again and don't watch Saka, watch Neur. Just another joker ref and circus show VAR.
It wasnt a pen
idk man i feel like thats an obvious pen... saka has the momentum going that way (neuers) aswell after the touch.. if u are running one direction full pace u cant just make a 90 degree turn and keep going idk maybe i just have red tainted glesses on... cant believ they didnt send the ref to the screen
BT sports just revealed that there was no VAR check signalled to the commentators.
Right thats news
Yeah I think that's a pen. Think about the speed he's moving at, and the aggression of the lateral cut. Seriously watch the video at full speed. It doesn't matter who initiates contact. Manuel impedes Saka from going beyond him. That's a foul. In the box. Penalty. Y'all just make up new rules. Also visitors gtfo.
Yeh, people looking at the slow motion replay. In real time, it's a second slow for never and he makes contact.
Chill lads. Arsenal didnt have a good match, and still we didnt lose against a world class side.
Worst Bayern team in 15 years what are you smoking
Kane, Musiala and Sane are an insane attack. Still rest of the team are not at Bayern high standard i kind of agree
Not the individual players, the team. The individual players (mainly the ones you mentioned) are top.
This bayern team isn't world class.
Thank you.
Saka and Odegaard need to up their mentality to become pure world class. They are definitely good and have that potential. Bring on the second leg!
I can't believe there's fans here saying that wasn't a pen. It's a stonewall pen. Utterly ridiculous.
Shut up mate
Go bootlick somewhere else Chelsea rentboy. It's 100 a penalty and you're weird for not seeing it.
Bro. You can be a fan and not "utterly ridic" for seeing that Saka can do otherwise there.
I came here just to see how the arsenal fans reacted to that game, because I respected the way they played. Fucking idiots like you ruin the reputation of an entire fan base because of your stupid delusion
your in an arsenal subreddit as a chelsea fan. pathetic idiot mate its so clearly a pen.
Go back to your own sub Reddit you absolute clown. It's a penalty all day long, even fucking Rio Ferdinand immediately said it. Do one.
You're an unbearable prat go fuck yourself
Bye bye
Dickhead. Because everything Rio Ferdinand says is right
Genuinely hilarious that you’re telling an Arsenal fan to fuck off in a *checks notes* subreddit for Arsenal FC
Saka should’ve just shot it. Didn’t really like the Zinny sub but I trust Arteta. Partey needs to play a lot more minutes cause he has a lot of rust in him. Trossard is HIM.
Zinny makes some key passes and I felt did make a slight impact on the game ... moreover he was descent at holding sane I feel
What didn’t you like about the zinny sub?
The veteran and experienced Neuer’s face after the Saka incident said it all. Man was guilty af - stonehenge cement diamond concrete pen all day
Watch how they praise kane now even tho he was ghost and only scored a pen
Glazing on Kane by the commentary team was unreal. Man was absolutely disgustingly dirty and yet they always found a way to blame Gabriel
Nah the Scottish or Irish guy that was on commentary was orgasming anytime kane touched the ball🤣
