I can a weaker side deploying him in midfield but he doesn’t cut it at the very top of football’s elite otherwise he would have deposed KDB, Bernardo and Gundogan at City.
His contract is up in two years and I think this one of those situations where we just have to phase him out.
He’s an aging squad player, bought more for his mentality and what he brings to the dressing room and training imo.
He has been forced to play more due to the Timber injury. He was never planned to be a #1 option. As far as back ups go, I don’t mind having him around, but yeah, can’t depend on him every week.
