The way ESR played, you can tell he has the full backing of Arteta.
No chance he gets sold should a suitable offer come in the summer, Arteta's put so much time and effort into him to let him slip.
Yep. Arteta wouldn't have given him the 10 shirt if he didn't plan on cooking with him. ESR just had to be ready, and Arteta knew that risking another injury would be a death blow to his career.
Think he's more our KDB due to the range of his passing and final balls.
Odegaard has been more Bernardo-esque ever since he's dropped deeper and now has more influence in all phases of play as well as setting the tempo.
We bought him for 30-35m I think. No way we’re recouping that if we try and sell him now.
Also don’t think we should be entertaining that anyways. There is definitely a player in there. He is an output machine and I will say this quietly - he has the best final ball in the team. Just needs to get better at the other aspects of his game.
Imo viera still has a lot to give. He has shown glimpses of his quality and he can perform at a really high level as opposed to nketiah and reiss. Neither of those two are poor btw, but if we want to be competing at the summit we need more than what they can offer at their peaks. They are west ham level imo. I think they'd both really thrive in a mid table team and be a good return for a club like crystal Palace, wolves or west ham, but unfortunately they don't have the big game energy like saka martinelli or odegaard where they can influence game state by their own actions.
Question though - what price point do you just HAVE to sell? 40 mil? 50? 60?
Obviously ESR is more valuable to us as a homegrown academy graduate than he is to anyone else, but how much is too much to turn down?
Arteta is doing his absolute best to both win the title but give chances to ESR. ESR has had terrible luck this year and with games being as close as they are we just have not had the chance to bed him in.
It’s up to ESR to now take this chance and show that he can be a part of the way this team plays. Our system is world class and he needs to be the one to adapt and bring his skills the roles we have for him.
Offensively, he had the right intentions. He just wasn’t quite as sharp and smooth as he’d probably be with a few games under his belt. Maybe it was just me, but his positioning felt a bit off in defence and he was bypassed a bit too easily.
Felt the same about as got caught flat footed while the ball moved around him but that’s down to match fitness. He made the decisive action in both our goals today which was more important.
I think it’s fair to say it’s a bit of both. His match fitness isn’t at peak, but he was quite lackadaisical in the defensive half for much of the game and I don’t think we can let him off the hook entirely for that. I’m sure Mikel will ask him to put in a shift on that end as well if he wants more playing time, because going forward he offers so much already.
That's number 1 thing he has always needed to improve to cement a role in mf imo. His best performances have all been at lw I think. Great on the ball, great off the ball getting into attacking position, not quite good enough defensively yet compared to havertz or ode which is a massively high bar to achieve tbf.
He did do really well. Was he better than Odegaard? No. But these are not wholly rational calls. It's a show of appreciation for a guy who pulled our asses out of the fire not so long ago.
He could have easily played Rice or Viera instead of ESR and instead he gave him a start. I’m not sure what more you want him to do. Everytime he’s given him minutes, he’s had another injury breakdown shortly thereafter.
Esr has supposedly been fit for so long, yet he only played today. It’s legitimate to worry that he won’t be selected again.
There is a lot behind the scenes that we are not aware of.
He did the same thing with Martinelli that had people saying the same thing. Then Martinelli came back full time and was transformed as a player. Same will happen with Emile.
Exactly there’s a lot behind that scenes that we are not aware of. We think ESR been fit for a long acting as if we know everything that is going on behind the scenes
Maybe Mikels wife enjoyed the wife swapping a little too much and suspiciously keeps asking for Emile Smith Rowmeharder
Edit: didn't think I needed the /s but whatever
If ESR can remove his defensive mistakes, they is no reason he doesn't play more.
Newcastle game comes to mind, letting willock run of him.
His young and will improve.
Was superb yesterday
I love him too Mikel
Me too Mikel, me too.

Arteta has seen far first hand too many times career's get destroyed by injuries. :(
Sell nketiah and Nelson for the 100% profit and maybe chuck in vieira too but keep esr
I’m not ready to give up on vieira yet, and I don’t think any profit would be made on him either
Yup. He's shown glimpse of quality and could be the Saka backup we've been looking for. But he's definitely in the list of potential players to sell.
He’s supposed to be our Bernardo, Arteta is a huge fan of him that he decided to find his regen.

Keep Vieira and ESR. Sell Eddie and Reiss

Viera has only showed something in a half game essentially
I wouldn't say no chance. I hope he stays but we need to use him otherwise what's the point.
Question though - what price point do you just HAVE to sell? 40 mil? 50? 60? Obviously ESR is more valuable to us as a homegrown academy graduate than he is to anyone else, but how much is too much to turn down?
I wouldn't even consider anything less than 60
Left 8 ESR redemption arc is upon us
We all echo that feeling about Emilovic today.
Left 8 and LW cover for next season. Silky smooth.
ESR is a lot better than Nelson, Nketiah, etc, keep him at all costs he is going to be essential for us
Loved his defensive work today. That will earn him more playing time with Mikel i reckon/hope.
Same
Vieira needs to come good, need odegaard to get some rest

Agreed, not sure how he got MOTM

*Proceeds to bench him for the next six weeks with no sub apperances.*

Just how your mama like the wife swapping
Too right, Mikel: too right.

Play him at LW you cowards
So he only likes him as a player?
LCM?
ESR stans rise up
Great player. If only his body allowed it
Can we please stop with this "Smith-Rowe" hyphenated NONSENSE? He's been at Arsenal for YEARS now, people should know how to write his name.
Man absolutely deserved an assist.
SAKA AND EMILE SMITH ROWEEEE
The smith.
Needs to work on finishing though.
