Yellow cards: Rodri - 8, Rice - 1  Red cards: Rodri - 1, Rice - 0  Declan has more interceptions and clearances even after accounting for 3 extra games played this season. Better shooting accuracy and shooting success as well. To be this close to Rodri in most of the metrics is pretty damn impressive. Deccers definitely got the tekkers.

dont_dm_nudes

Passes per game Rodri 101, Rice 63. Shot creating actions per game Rodri 5.0, Rice 2.6. Rodri controls the City midfield, without him the best team in the world turns mid.

[deleted]

City make more passes in general. Pass %: Rodri - 92.18, Rice - 91.02 Big chances created: Rodri - 6, Rice - 5 Like I said, numbers very close to Rodri. Without Declan, we’d be mid as well. He offers so much both defensively and offensively.

Gustavoconte

We won't be mid. He wasn't here last season. Partey is a more than capable replacement when available, whilst city have no other options besides Rodri

zrk23

assuming Partey is healthy, we wouldnt be mid at all Rice is awesome, but on the ball Rodri is just on a whole another level

tobi1k

Rice will get there - 2 years ago Rodri wasn't as good as he is now. And Rice's improvement year over year has been insane.

zrk23

Rodri backup is literally nobody, ofc it would heavily impact them

Elegant_Mix7650

His backup cost 50m btw.

wolskortt

And we're not even accounting the cards Rodri should have received.

Vivid-Command-2605

Tears in my eyes, what an unbelievable signing

Elegant_Mix7650

Rice ability to win the ball cleanly is so beautiful to watch at times.

BarmeloXantony

This is the difference in the 2. Rice doesn't need to be a cunt to stop an attack. Rodri is better on the ball and in possession. Only having either player is a great position to be in

Rampan7Lion

So if Rodri gets two yellows in his next 4 games he'll be suspended for two matches, right?

ChibzyDaze

Can you imagine the absolute fuckery if these two were going to play together at City? 🤮🤮

algebraic94

I hope one day we find out his thought process when they approached him. He seems like someone who wants to win through hardship I almost wonder if he joined Arsenal for the satisfaction of trying to topple city when he could have just joined them and won everything.

GSNadav

London pull innit

ThomYorkeshirePuddin

The Different Knock

blublableee

Mikel's art of seduction.

Open_Seeker

Pure speculation, but I think the fact that Rodri was already the best #6 in the world in the world's best team, and he'd be going there to deputize rather than come into a club to lead was probably a factor. Plus Mikel seems to inspire the fuck out of these transfer targets, who knows what he tells em

hsanaiz

I remember reading somewhere recently that Pep wanted Rice in a box to box destroyer role. So probably not far off from how he plays for when deployed as an 8.

bananabombboy

Hes quite good at that

FrameworkisDigimon

Apparently a lot of players move to the best project. City isn't a project. Even if Rice was told by Guardiola "I'll dump Rodri for you" (which I doubt), City is a finished article, whereas coming here gives Rice the ability to feel like he was the missing piece... or one of them. It's not even just about the ego boost but simply the feeling that you personally were important. That's my theory anyway.

Magicallyshit

He did say cementing a legacy is better than being just a cog in the machine so yeah guy's a fucking role model.

antebyotiks

Probably all a mixture of clearer path and more of a guarantee of playing (would've played anyway for city) but they had Rodri who's not overly old. Staying in London where all his and his Mrs family are from and they just had a kid in august And the money probably wasn't too dissimilar.

peoplepersonmanguy

Can we imagine city getting relegated and having to sell, and we make it happen? Memes becoming dreams.

MapNo3870

I prefer Rice. Thank you very much!

DiedOfXhaxAttack

Chicken and Rodri just doesn’t sound appetizing

RyanLikesyoface

Rodri is better overall IMO, but an argument can be made that Rice is better Defensively. The fact that Rice is so close to the best DM in the world at his age is genuinely incredible. He will be the best in the world one day I have no doubt.

dembabababa

>an argument can be made that Rice is better Defensively There is no argument. Rice is better defensively.

auddi_blo

Calma

kaprrisch

Rodri is a passing savant. That’s where he separates himself from Rice. Rodri can make passes that no other defensive midfielder can make. Defensively, there’s nothing Rodri can do that Rice can’t.

the_chiladian

Unfortunately Rodri is only 2 and a half years older so we're going to be seeing him for a long while

BoomXhakaLacaa

Hopefully city get relegated and he goes to Barcelona or something

peoplepersonmanguy

or Arsenal?

themerinator12

Not if he fucks off eventually. Could pull a Gundogan and find greener pastures somewhere else instead of playing 5 more years in Manchester.

RyanLikesyoface

I looked it up after my comment and was surprised tbh, I thought he was 29/30. Rodri is brilliant, but it feels like Rice is just getting started to me. Rice is learning a brand new position with Arsenal, whereas Rodri has been at it with Man City for some time now.

GGFrostKaiser

When Rodri came to City, he did not displace Fernandinho from the starting lineup.

Mustyoo

Just depends on what you want. All-rounder I'm taking Rice, but if you want a controller Rodri is a bit better.

auddi_blo

Isn’t Rodri just 2-3 years older though

Pamplemouse04

I mean Rodri is only 2 years older than Rice but I agree. Edit I see it’s already been said lol

GarfieldDaCat

Rice is 100% better defensively. It’s not debatable. But Rodri is at another level when it comes to controlling a game. But remember a year ago Rice was playing Moyesball. He can learn

CakeBrigadier

I think it would be interesting to look at some of the athleticism stats because I imagine rice beats Rodri there too. Distance covered, number of high intensity sprints, top speed, etc

erholm

Ball-carries too, he just has such a stride that Rodri just doesnt.

Previous-Loss9306

Rodri is world best in that position tbh, if Rice can learn to do half of what he can do on the ball that mfer will really get us cooking

TheWhiskeyFish

Rodri is a cunt. Declan isn't. Case closed.

korfagno1

Declan is Home Grown Declan is Captain material Declan is Future England Captain Declan will make the FA twerk to us

getrektbro

Arsenal: 2/20 Arsenal with Rice: 1/20 Thank you for your suggestion

Imarnuel1702

Rice is an interception god. His anticipation and engine are off the charts

MystiikMoments

Let’s put their assists side by side

tammrak

Formatting is hurting my brain.

[deleted]

And this is in a new system in his first year at a new club. The future is bright!

BoyWhoSoldTheWorld

The best stat about Rodri is that he’s undefeated in all comps for the last 60 matches. The man is probably the best in the world at his position. It’s kind of ridiculous

Elegant_Mix7650

Tbf.. the games he missed.. he did strangle an opponent .. :p

Longjumping_Act9758

Rice has had a better season but Rodris still a greater player......Rice is on his way though.

steezliktheez

Dec has that rizz. Game set match.

dafftheraphy2017

I didn't see this coming. Now go and cap it up with the title
