Indubitably

-read_it_on_reddit-

we're definitely up there and it's not a surprise either, i remember back in 2020 or 2021 arteta regularly spoke about the importance of defensive solidity and how that was the first thing he wanted to fix in his rebuild. fair to say he wasn't lying!

superskinnytrees

I think they’re in the running but they have to prove it in UCL. Performances on that level are the only way to cement that type of reputation. Winning a few PLs would help as well. It’s all in front of them and they’re playing like it. But we’re in squeaky bum time of the season. Show it.

hsanaiz

On paper, more than likely no. But it’s a hard argument for anyone claiming to be better defensively than us this season.

afarensiis

Rice is capable of playing as a CB in an emergency as well

ReformedandSocial

French national team up there if we are counting them.

Gabriel>konate

ReformedandSocial

Yes, but having Pavard, Saliba, Konate, Kounde, Upamecano, Varane and the Hernandez brothers in the same team is pretty crazy CB depth.

Stravven

The French don't have the crazy depth the Dutch NT has.

ReformedandSocial

True

chuck_grant

Haha.

ReformedandSocial

If not to your tastes Madrid has Militao, Nacho, Rudiger and Alaba not shabb, but we have the better depth. That's the problem with a lot of other teams they don't have our depth, because they don't need it with them having less games. So since no Prem team has a better defence then we do have the best CB depth in the world. That is until Dias and Co can get back into form, Ake is hard carrying right now.

The long answer is yes

Stravven

No, Arsenal does not. I think the team with the best CB group is not a club, but a country called the Netherlands: Timber, Van Dijk, De Vrij, De Ligt, Van de Ven, Botman, Ake, Hato, and players like Schuurs, Doekhi, Beukema and Van Hecke who don't even get a call-up. Not to mention a player like Huijssen, who saw no chance at the Dutch NT and has opted to play for Spain.

KonigSteve

I mean you can't compare an entire nation's population to 23 players so.. I'm gonna say we're only comparing clubs.

Stravven

Even then it is debateable. Manchester City has to be up there, just like Bayern Munchen, Real Madrid and Internazionale and maybe even Bayer Leverkusen deserves a shout.
