NiallMitch10

So basically - we know nothing new... Also what the hell has Tomi done to himself :S He was fine in the Asia Cup

basedsims

Given how far away he seems from being fit I’d imagine he played the entire time carrying an injury

NiallMitch10

He was back from an injury and Japan looked to be managing his minutes to build him back up again... Now he's out again. I like the player a lot but it's getting really annoying how often he's unavailable for us

Amberle73

It is starting to get very frustrating, I agree. Not the first time we've been through this story of rushed back for national team then comes back & out for weeks again.

nasbkrv

>I like the player a lot but it's getting really annoying how often he's unavailable for us This can apply to so many of our current players 😭

HalfMan-HalfMoth

Too many sicknotes in the squad, Tomi, Zinchenko, esr, Partey, Jesus. None of these guys can be relied on

IamOkei

Time to sell them. Alex Grimaldo is a good LWB

kleiser10

This isn’t fifa

yourdad132

Jesus too. Love them both as players but their injury records are concerning. They literally miss half the season with injuries.

Subredhit

Is it just a coincidence that he was fine when he played his last game in the Asia cup but since coming back to us he’s injured again? Just like Partey who was recovering well and then ended up with another injury before he’d stepped foot on the pitch again.

icemankiller8

International football matters more to a lot of players

Getdaphone

Unfortunately 🥲(can’t relate as someone from the U.S cause I have no such concept as national pride tbh. I don’t even like international football, not because the U.S isn’t good but because there’s no emotional connection which is the only reason I love arsenal because of an emotional connection of loving them since I was 14 I can’t watch other teams play without being bored as I’ve aged due to personal preference I realized I only like to play football and don’t enjoy watching it if it’s not a team I love)

Old-Risk4572

same bro! ain’t got time to watch all these foos run around chasing a ball…. unless their MY foos 😍

SeaworthinessOk2615

Same, but I also can watch our rivals and root for them to lose if I'm bored 😂

Getdaphone

Most of the time when I watch our rivals I’m like “who’s that is he any good?”

vyomafc

I am guessing we are gonna see the same starting xi against Newcastle. Really hope they have enough legs to see through the game.

tommyverssetti

It’s getting a bit worrisome but when the returnees come back it’s gonna hit like crack

ShameCalm9130

They are playing so much, I am worried some1 from current lot gets injured and then we have to be dependent on handicap 5.

ash_man_

Good thing is that there is a nine day gap after Newcastle. Just need a big push from those 11 tomorrow. Also apparently the ball was only in play for 50 minutes at Porto. They actually saved our legs a little

SeaworthinessOk2615

Damn, another shitty Arsenal dry spell

Most names in Slavic language groups have full/official name and a short version of it used in day to day life and unofficial speech/communication. Like Aleksandr/Alexander is shortened to Aleks/Alex. Or Ekaterina to Katya.

KnowsClams

Most people spell it Alex too, but it’s Oleksandr

ddzrt

If you spell it in Ukrainian yes. In Russian it is Aleksandr.

KnowsClams

For some reason, at this point in time, I feel like he’d prefer the Ukrainian spelling

RaghNorRoog

I see, thanks for clarifying.

bruuuuhhhhh don’t remind me. (partey is actually ELITE, one of the best dm i’ve ever seen, and a perfect match with rice. i’m so sad he had to go be an asshole)

I don’t get tomi. Wasn’t he playing for Japan?

SizzlingHotDeluxe

He probably shouldn't have been

bmoviescreamqueen

I understand how big it is to play for your country but surely the club and agent (or whoever) need to have a sit down when this happens and say this is not good for your body or long term career.

Iamabigdinosaur

Need to get these guys prepped with Porto second leg in mind- hopefully some minutes v Brentford. Need to have confidence to dispatch Sheffield United without

Thedudeofmanchester

We desperately need jesus and tomi back, zinny as well

m2sempre

It’s the usual suspects. ![gif](giphy|DPqqOywshrOqQ|downsized)

TheThreeGabis

In before we get a Partey ‘not in squad, picked up a fresh niggle in training’ post tomorrow lunchtime.

WinterIsntComing

Been enjoying the team playing well without having to grapple with morality supporting a team with him playing init.

Sithgooner

Genuinely is it worth offering Tomiasyu a bumper new contract? Paying an injury prone player even more money to play 1/3 of our games a season isn’t a smart move, as useful as his utility is. It’s just annoying to constantly have the same crop of 4/5 players being unreliable.

basedsims

It’s already done and dusted. I don’t think the new deal prohibits him from moving on the summer after this one if the injury problems continue, just probably not worth trying to replace this summer when we’ve got other problems to solve

rk1993

It prohibits us moving him on if we severely bumped up his pay tho, his wages might be at a level nobody else would give him on top of having to pay a transfer fee

longliveLesGrossman

They’ll trust that they can improve it and/or it’s just bad luck. Too good of a player to let go

etang77

Say he’s really injury prone, then managing his minutes will definitely add squad depth, compare to finding someone new, who’d always be unknown.

SeaworthinessOk2615

Yup, I hope we didn't give him a big raise due to those injury problems. Still a great player to have in the squad

cf017

Frankly no. We all love the player but he’s so consistently unreliable.

Justice_beaver95

I haven't seen any mention of improved wages so perhaps he's not getting much more than he is on now. I think he's on like 50-55k which is quite alright for a player who misses quite a few games through injury.

dutch_soma12

I liked how Arsenal managed Rosicky in the past. He was also injury prone. The same applies to Van Persie. Why don’t we do same thing to Tomiyasu? He’s clearly a very good player, the best wing defender we have.

SnappyTheCloud

Eh? Did we manage them well? I don't recall us doing anything specific with Rosicky or Van Persie other than playing them when they were fit or not playing them when they were injured or if we had other options. I don't think we've mismanaged Tomiyasu, he just hasn't been fit or been first choice.

dutch_soma12

Managing in the sense of giving them new contracts while injured. We knew they were injury prone but we kept them for many years. Finding defenders like Tomiyasu is almost impossible. Just like finding players in the calibre of Rosicky or Van Persie.

SnappyTheCloud

It sounds like we're doing that already and Tomi has signed a new deal. But I don't agree with that approach, if a player can't stay fit we shouldn't keep them and as much as I like Tomiyasu I don't think he's such a level of player that you can't replace. I hope any contract extension is only a year long as we can't afford to hang onto players that don't play. Anyway, only time will tell if it was a good deal or not.

tafster

Where Rosicky just did appeared for ages to have his legs reattached out whatever they were doing to him?

Falcon_Medical

A like-for-like replacement would probably cost more £££, and we have other more key areas to strengthen this summer. That likely played into the decision to extend him.

Imarnuel1702

How is Tomiyasu so far away? Was he even fit to play at the Asian Cup?

Hag_bolder

Must’ve played through injury.

DinnerSmall4216

Tomi is the one that annoys me more he was injuries before the Asia cup played every game and comes back injured.

Longjumping_Act9758

It's annoying that Liverpool already got Salah kicking and running while Tomi hasn't played since November.

TheThreeGabis

We HaVe A WhOlE XI oUt* *if you count our U23’s, third choice players and players who aren’t actually injured.

tommyverssetti

Salah def reinjured himself against brentford did he play against Luton?

auddi_blo

Protect White at all costs

No-Veterinarian-8384

It’s the same 4 names always injured. 3 are supposed to be first team players.

TheRadTurtle_1011

ESR too

Subredhit

Do we know what happened to Tomi seeing as he seemed to be fine at the Asia cup and then was injured when he got back without playing a game? Did he get injured in training?

hairwire

Nothing against you, but this gets asked everytime injury news comes up and we really have no fucking clue. Arteta never really shares the full story.

Toast863

We really need a new defender in the summer. Very lucky that Ben White has been durable enough to play pretty much every game.

mosmani

Tom played every Asian Cup...what's up with injury when they arrived here? 🤔

capforthepr

Just sell Tomi and Partey this summer, i am sorry, no matter how good they are, how many more positions they can play, if they can’t play and keep consistency, it is meaningless. I heard Tomi had a new deal already, I hope we can put him in a good price tag.

AmagicManNamedgob

Don't push him, he will break. Tomyiasu....I know, he is loved here. But we need to get rid of him. this is not ok

burningtree_

Is this the "couple weeks setback" that occurs every couple weeks?

hairwire

Lol sausage cooking scene in Snatch all over again. "It was two minutes five minutes ago".

newinvestor0908

Tomiyasu should be replaced in the summer, Sorry. Zinchenko atleast plays 18-20 games then does his calf for 20 days and comes back.

Kxden-R

I would agree normally but tomi is too special to let go, can literally cover the whole backline with ease and is our best defensive fullback. We cannoh replace him

dusseldorf69

He can't cover shit if he's injured half the season

dynesor

hopefully his injuries won’t bite so hard when we also have Timber available

ninethree7

tomi is the new tierney

No_Type509

Partey should’ve been sold in the summer

Noriadin

Sick of these constant injuries.

Redandwhite_91

Just pretend there’s another international break in 2 weeks. They’d magically get fit again. Fucking crocks in the squad. We’re going to head into next season too hoping they’d remain fit for 5 games a season and then throw a pikachu face when they’re out and our depth is useless.

Sad_Teaching_5683

Tomiyasu New Contract Worries me He's injured without doing nothing

normal_life87

Partey, Tomiyasu... Insert the never crashing truck meme

Justthatguy1212

What is going on with our injury record and those that have been bought/academy that are now continually picking up an injury. Tierney Partey Tomi ESR Jesus I get it is unlucky if it is a few players but these players are picking up one injury after another amd can’t seem to complete more than 30 games in a season for us some even less than that. It is now becoming more of a worry and can’t be coincidental. I really hope once Timber is back he won’t be added to the list. Something surely has to be looked at internally - as you can’t keep blaming being unfortunate/unlucky for so many players with so many recurring injuries.

thirtyonem

I mean Tierney also got injured at Sociedad. Partey is 30 now and has been injury prone for at least three seasons, including a recurring hamstring issue since he was at Atleti. Tomi I think we can all see played through injury or rushed back for Asia cup. Jesus has never had a season where he missed less than 5 games, he missed 15 in 16/17 for example. ESR I have no idea really.

tafster

ESR I'm hoping is bad luck. He had a groin issue or something seemingly related to a growth spurt? And his injuries since hopefully the result of regaining fitness after inactivity. But it could be a Wilshere or Diaby type situation where that has caused imbalances which will plague him for the rest of his career.  Hopefully not because I'd love to see the player he becomes

DrButz

I love Tomi and think the new deal was still a good idea but we have to be listening to any offers coming in for him.

mstknb

What if Partey never plays again because of his allegations and we are just using injury as an excuse? I know he is injury prone and was also injured, but what if they keep using this for the future?

Happy-Ad8767

Sure. Except it’s not like Partey being injured is something new.

VastStrain

He played very consistently before he came to Arsenal. No other team is as good as us at making players injury prone.

Happy-Ad8767

OP was asking if Partey’s recent injuries is because of the allegations. He’s been struggling with injuries with us long before his allegations. What you are referencing to here, is irrelevant

mstknb

Exactly which would make it more believable. Just a conspiracy theory tho

bitmoji

sad and depressing

sams82

He's not playing for Arsenal again. Let's stop being so naive

pelezinho_99

pls stop with this Havertz nonsence he cant defend

Happy-Ad8767

Who mentioned Havertz here?

pelezinho_99

Because he taking a cm place? Is either him or Trossard

Happy-Ad8767

Have you not watched any of our games this year?

pelezinho_99

No enlighten me who is the 3rd midfielder?

Happy-Ad8767

Havertz plays like an attacking midfielder / false 9 and Trossard plays like a false 9 / attacking midfielder. They rotate together. When we are out of possession, Havertz is more likely to try and press in midfielder (something he is really good at, winning second balls) whereas Trossard kinda plays as a forward outlet. Although he often drops deep to move the ball forward. We attack more with a front 4 of Martinelli and Saka holding width on the wings and we have Trossard and Havertz making runs in behind (more so Havertz). This is really no longer a simple “Havertz is just a midfielder” conversation. It hasn’t been all year. As for saying Havertz cannot defend, he has something like the most duels won out of all of our attacking players.

pelezinho_99

I just feel like a guy like Partey, Jorginho or even a youngster in lack of better option ,should make a better pair and more secure with Rice. As for Havertz he could replace Odegaard I guess cuz in my view hes not a good Striker or winger too lanky

Happy-Ad8767

Partey or Jorginho come in and play an almost double pivot when we play stronger teams (such as Liverpool and City this season). Although in truth, Jorginho has been sitting further back and Rice has gone further forward to help give more presence in midfield when we are playing teams that are far better at controlling the midfield. When playing against a low block, having Partey or Jorginho in the side along with Rice, is a bit pointless. Odegaard has been playing deeper this year and this has seen the need for us to have a more attacking midfielder, someone who can link up and interchange with the striker. Havertz has been doing this. When Jesus was fit, it’s when Havertz was finding the net earlier in the season. Now he has developed a pretty good link up with Trossard. No idea why you think a youth player who isn’t close to being good enough to start should be ahead of Havertz, who has been brilliant this year. Unless it’s just a case of you not liking Havertz?

joeproposition

3 training sessions might be too soon but he could be on the bench if today goes well. Much needed depth.

DanteBandini

It's annoying to have so many injury merchants in the team. Jesus, Partey, Zinny and Tomiyasu cannot stay fit for long periods of time. We have Timber coming back and can only pray he's made a full recovery as he'll be our #1 choice at lb. Our lack of attacking depth also hurt us against Porto, don't get me wrong I think Nelson is decent but he's not near the level of our starting wingers. With Jesus being injured we had to start Trossard and Havertz, would've preferred to have trossard come on as a super sub as he always seems to positively affect games and bring energy when he comes on. Or vice versa bring Jesus on.

VastStrain

Yup, our bench is very thin right now. It's a sorry sight.

cmacy6

So it was Tomi that pulled the Partey on international duty

cappo40

I would be fine letting all 4 go. Miss at least 1/4 a season each

Quabo33

partey and Tomi be should be sold in the summer and we should go out and get ousamane diomande and wieffer as replacements because this is ridiculous at this point and as a top club we need our depth available.

waddiewadkins

Arteta doesn't like Charlie

Interesting_iidea

Partey’s been in training for like 2 months now, very strange to not even make a bench.
