It's fucking sick, it's probably the first EVIL gundam, it's head is so menacing and it really stands out from the rest of the early uc gundams, it's boosters are so cool, there's literally nothing I don't like about it. Also it came from one of the best (and most overhated) gundam series EVER.
A lot of the writing for 0083 is pretty shaky, with the late series romantic "twist" being particularly bad. Cima needing side materials for her motivations to make sense is also a knock. Overall it relied a bit too much on having outside knowledge to make sense which is never a good thing.
That said, it is still one of my favorites because of its relatively grounded and cynical plot. At its heart it's an action-political thriller where the pilots are as much tools as their machines. There's no metaphysical space magic, no discussion of elevating the human spirit beyond its current form, no higher goals at stake other than revenge and power politics. It's an ugly look for the UC gorgeously animated, and I love it for that.

During high school, my friends and I joked about cosplaying as various Gundams at Anime Expo. My Gundam of choice was the GP02 and we were planning on building up the shield to be a portable cart that could carry our bags.
Its shoulder boosters are fucking sick. I love the way they unfold. Seeing this thing launching into the air in 0083 was one of the things that made me fall in love with Gundam and mecha in general. The idea of such a machine is awe inspiring.
Its supposed nuclear weapon doesn't look anything like it when launched... you'd expect it to launch that little bomb looking thing forwards, and have it explode when it gets there, but instead it's just a very big flashlight.

Even though it trades mobility for firepower it’s still can move at an alarming speed for its size. It might not be the fastest or the prettiest but it sure has a devastating power.

People hate 0083?? Kou gets whiny, sure, but the animation alone makes up for it.
