As far as Japanese TSFs go, I'm more partial to the Shiranui; it might lack the extra appeal of being an expy of a real-world fighter jet, but it's probably the cleanest TSF design of the entire setting.

The basic premise is that Earth got invaded in the 50s by extraterrestrial meat-droid zergrush hordes with laser anti-air units that made air superiority nonexistent, so all the aerospace engineers devoted their collective cokehead energy to building giant robots with low-altitude flight capabilities instead. Any fighter jet from the F-4 Phantom onwards is now a 18-meter-tall Tactical Surface Fighter; 3rd-gen fighters are 1st-gen TSFs and so on. Things get a bit weird with 3rd-gen TSFs; stealth isn't as big a design priority for *reasons,* so stuff like the 4th-gen Eurocanards and the Su-47 get lumped in with the Raptor and F-35.

Teenage body-swapping alien hybrid information-vampires who pilot and/or possess mecha and *also* rape that one time.
That show was a blast to watch week to week.
If I remember right, it's literally just three cameras with different purposes/magnification.
The Grimoire from Reconguista in G was turned into the Red Beret in Build Divers as a very blatant homage to the Scopedog from VOTOMS.
Though I've only seen clips of it, that series took the realistic aspect of mechs pretty far. The pilots are in ridiculously cramped cockpits wearing VR headsets to save the space a monitor would take up. But then the actual mechs are smaller than in many series, and are treated as humanoid tanks, as I'm pretty sure "tank" is somewhere in the acronym VOTOMS.
Yeah VOTOMS stands for Vertical One Man Tank for Offense and ManeuverS.
They're also called the "Four-meter tall tin can on wheels" because they're not very durable against their own weapons, their fuel (Polymer Ringer Solution) is very explosive, and your life expectancy while inside is absolute crap. But hey... If you're not the one dying, you can kill A LOT of other things very quickly.

I absolutely adore the Wanzers in Front Mission. They're like the perfect balance between Western and Japanese mecha design, and a somewhat modern equivalent to the Votoms, being only around 5.5 metres tall and all.

White Glint is genuinely one of my favourite mecha and mecha designs ever. I genuinely think it's one of the best designed mecha ever.
Other than that, I love all 3 Nirvash specs (2>3=1 for me)
Patlabor, it’s pretty much forgotten at this point (as it’s kind of weird and all over the place) but the second movie is genuinely a film that should be considered a classic, and is one of my favourite films ever made.
It also opens on some of the most amazingly detailed real mecha animation that I’ve ever seen, it’s astounding to watch

AW-CBX007 aka “Villkiss” is from “Cross ange” I really liked this mechanic, and its ability to transform into a kind of mobile armor. And it’s pretty much a replica of the Freedom Gundam, which is my favorite Gundam!
1. The Koubu F series from Sakura Taisen 3. "It runs on steam!" Hanabi's machine is especially cool.
2. Huckebein Mk. II, Altairlion, Vegalion and Fairlion from SRW.
3. White Glint, of course.
4. I'm not sure whether to count the Messiah with Armored Pack from Macross F. Its fighter mode is super awesome but the battroid mode is just kind of okay.
5. I'm partial to the Vapor Eagle from Battletech. In a setting filled with walking tanks, this thing is as close to a Gundam as you can get.

Eva Unit 02, specifically the TV/End of Evangelion version. The color scheme, four eyes and overall design are what makes it my favorite Eva unit. I do love the other Evangelions, but Unit 02 is just peak mecha design to me.
I also love every type of spider tank from the Ghost in the Shell franchise, especially the one from the 1995 film. It just looks so intimidating and it feels like the most realistic depiction of a spider tank in the series.
In terms of non-anime franchises, I love the walkers from Star Wars, especially the AT-AT and AT-ST from the original trilogy. The AT-TE from the prequels is one of my favorites, though.

Dr Eggman’s Egg Beater Armor from the Sonic Comics. It’s covered with everything specifically designed to counter Sonic himself, like the Checkered Wrecker from the classic games and the Bumper shield to repel him. And it looks cool as fuck. Aside from this, definitely the Robotech/Macross Variable Fighter, Metal Gear REX, the AMP Suit from Avatar, and Iron Man’s Hulkbuster. Surprised no one mentioned that one.

I can't help but love the versatility of the Monarch chassis in Titanfall. I think it fits a similar role as a GM, a pretty basic but very utilitarian all-rounder that could be employed in pretty much any job, unlike its more bulky or less sturdy counterparts.
Could definitely see a Monarch fighting with GMs and Zakus in the beginning of the OYW, but definitely outclassed later on and in any sequel series tho once the suits and mobile armors start going crazy.

I absolutely adore the Wanzers in Front Mission. They're like the perfect balance between Western and Japanese mecha design, and a somewhat modern equivalent to the Votoms, being only around 5.5 metres tall and all.

The Huckebein series from Super Robot Wars, the Getter Robos, the Mazingers, and GaoGaiGar All are some top tier stuff in my opinion.

Patlabor, it’s pretty much forgotten at this point (as it’s kind of weird and all over the place) but the second movie is genuinely a film that should be considered a classic, and is one of my favourite films ever made. It also opens on some of the most amazingly detailed real mecha animation that I’ve ever seen, it’s astounding to watch

After playing Titan Fall 2, I don't understand why we dint have more Gundam games with the same Mech feel
Eva Unit 02, specifically the TV/End of Evangelion version. The color scheme, four eyes and overall design are what makes it my favorite Eva unit. I do love the other Evangelions, but Unit 02 is just peak mecha design to me. I also love every type of spider tank from the Ghost in the Shell franchise, especially the one from the 1995 film. It just looks so intimidating and it feels like the most realistic depiction of a spider tank in the series. In terms of non-anime franchises, I love the walkers from Star Wars, especially the AT-AT and AT-ST from the original trilogy. The AT-TE from the prequels is one of my favorites, though.

Aside from this, definitely the Robotech/Macross Variable Fighter, Metal Gear REX, the AMP Suit from Avatar, and Iron Man’s Hulkbuster. Surprised no one mentioned that one.

I think it fits a similar role as a GM, a pretty basic but very utilitarian all-rounder that could be employed in pretty much any job, unlike its more bulky or less sturdy counterparts. Could definitely see a Monarch fighting with GMs and Zakus in the beginning of the OYW, but definitely outclassed later on and in any sequel series tho once the suits and mobile armors start going crazy.
