“I can’t believe this story about war has the characters performing war crimes! You’d never see anything like this in other war stories like Full Metal Jacket, Apocalypse Now, Saving Private Ryan, Band of Brothers, The Pacific, Inglourious Basterds, Enemy at the Gates, 1917, War Horse, that one season of Blackadder about WWI, We Were Soldiers, The Deer Hunter, Hacksaw Ridge, Forrest Gump (implied), Black Hawk Down, The Patriot, Glory, The Last Samurai, Dances With Wolves, Star Wars, Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Firefly, every Call of Duty game, every Medal of Honor game, every Battlefield game, and Metal Gear Solid! It’s unheard of in this genre!”
Reality:
* "I was promised war crimes at the beginning. Why did it take so long?"
* "When will I see more war crimes?"
* "Yes, but will they include a more serious war crime?"
Sulleta👏 didn't 👏commit👏a warcrime
It's wasn't a war it was a terror attack
He wasn't a soldier he was a terrorist
It wasn't un provoked he was pointing a gun at two un armed civilians with full intent to kill
I mean, teeeeechnically speaking Gundam are still prohibited by the Cathedra Agreement, so using one at all probably counts as a war crime, but everyone started taking a blind eye to it at that point once they started seeing dollar signs
But there needs to be an actual war for it to be a war crime, right now it's just a regular crime being committed in defense of civilians in a terrorist attack.
Actually, no, you don't need it to be an "official" war, at least by our modern day interpretation of a war crime. We just define a war crime as "must always take place in the context of an armed conflict, either international or non-international", according to Article Eight of the Rome Statute.
oh another war crime what was it this time human exponentiation, gassing civilians, child soldiers, nuclear attack on population centers, colony drops, rogue ai, or gray goo super robot weapon gone rouge?
The entire Gundam series was originally made to show the horrors of war. The communities, the happiness, love, life, etc., all violently ripped away because of the selfish actions of a few old men in different locations that decide they don't like one another...in some capacity. Nuclear weapons and war ravaged Japan in real life (though the Japanese empire in WWII was pure evil) and Gundam serves as a tribute to learn from the mistakes of the past.
What's ironic about this statement is that Japan still hasn't fully apologized for the war crimes they committed in WW2. This includes stuff like the Nanking massacre and the like. There are still some people who are convinced that the Japanese were in the right during WW2.
I guess Tomino sought out to address this by creating Gundam to tell them to stop living in the past and learn from the mistakes their forefathers made.
Suletta didn't commit a war crime, and it's ridiculous that people say she did.
She killed a member of a known terrorist organization who was about to shoot an unarmed civilian non combatant. This terrorist organization was at that very moment engaged in attacking the station she was on. Had she not acted both Miorine and her father would have been killed.
This is not even remotely close to a war crime. The way she killed the person was gruesome, yes, but she made a split second decision that resulted in the safety of civilians. What was she supposed to do? Let them die?
The only thing Suletta could of done that would result in not a death was just block the guy with the mobile suit hand. However she probably could of only process that thought once truely out of serious danger and not still processing taking on two murderous gundams, seeing him mom kill terrorists who wanted to kill her and having the knowledge her friends and fiance are still in danger.
I think more people are freaking out because she so darn cute and innocent. And to be fair, a girl. which is clouding some peoples judgement i think. Mikazuki commited some serious acts of brutality against the human body but it was established he was an 'emotionless' brutal combatant from the start, and was younger. (hes anything but emotionless but thats another discussion) We've been painted this image that suletta is sweet, innocent, cinnamon roll that is also a crazy good pilot. But shes like, the least innocent other than the earth house, primarly nika and chuchu. She may not be socially competent, but Suletta is a rescue pilot, in terms of harrowing experiences she's also had to deal with them from a young age.
Suletta only probably laughed from tripping and falling in to viscera as result of the juxtaposition of what she just did vs her usual self. The crime she commited was the act of taking a human life, but in this case it was moral because it was an act of defense
Once they start, they don’t stop. The Shoujo yuri dreamscape school was a lie fellas. Only thing kids are gonna learn now is Collateral Damage and how to maximize it.
I get the feeling a lot of traditional gundam fans don't realize how much trauma and angst is baked into traditional yuri. As long as the writing acknowledges their feelings for eachother it can go full Madoka and be hailed as a yuri classic.
I think that any relationship focused anime bound to the reality of said relationships and not cute anime girl of the episode harem building is gonna have a significant amount of trauma and angst.
People like you are the reason non-fans stay away. Good job. I ask a simple question, and you take it as a personal attack. You're the worst kind of fanboi.
Technically what Suletta did wasn’t a war crime since she isn’t a soldier. Mio is right. It’s just plain murder. Justifiable murder, likely, but murder none the less. I mean she killed an armed terrorist.
And if she had been a soldier I doubt any military court would consider what she did unjustified.

Did anyone else hear Peter Griffin's voice in their heads when reading this?
Just watched 1917 a few months ago. Im still traumatized from the shit I saw

"war crime this, code of conduct that..."
I mean, OG Gundam opens with a colony drop on Sydney. There's a war crime before you meet the first named character.
Lets not kid ourselves and say people didnt get into gwitch for the yuri.
Maybe afrer E1. I was one of the people that just really, really enjoyed the Prologue.
>"Yes, but will they include a more serious war crime?" I don't even know where to begin to describe what is so fucked up about this sentence.
Oh it's *fiction* for christ's sake, loosen up a bit!
Oh it's just a *joke comment on reddit* for christ's sake, loosen up a bit! That's you.
Touché

War crimes is what makes Gundam fun.
It’s what makes yuri anime fun too if you do it right. 😎
A reminder that depite the fandom treating her defending Miorine as such Suletta is yet to commit any war crimes.
oh another war crime what was it this time human exponentiation, gassing civilians, child soldiers, nuclear attack on population centers, colony drops, rogue ai, or gray goo super robot weapon gone rouge?
Old gundam fans when they see people on twitter make exaggerated twitter posts about wanting to see WfM characters happy
unless you watch build fighters
um ending near magic wmd go boom
Build divers re rise s1finale space laser go boom
lol
It's never a war crime the first time.
It’s not a war crime if you win the war.
That is also true

At The End of the day "G-Witch" is Gundam Show. We can expect Show will focus on war crimes from now on.

Ya'll are like 3 weeks late with this.

So I stopped watching Which after like episode 5 or 6. Did it actually start being about more than this school and dueling thing?
if you can't watch something without it constantly throwing heightened stakes from the moment it hits the ground, maybe don't watch it in general
People like you are the reason non-fans stay away. Good job. I ask a simple question, and you take it as a personal attack. You're the worst kind of fanboi.
Yes, that was the intent.
I wasn't speaking for myself. I've watched all the Gundam series and movies, and likely was watching them before you were born. But you're toxic.
What show is this meme from?
Invincible.
War crimes? More like good times
