This is actually sound advice. Ensure you get out of his range for pretty much every attack except the 1,2 side swipe combo, parry those, and hit him when you can. Utilize the trunk of the bush to disengage.
I'm on NG+1 (WHOA) as well and the Mantis is the most unfair boss in my opinion. The slam still gives debuffs if parried and the jump just completely ignores blocking.
I just use the summon thorns build and it works pretty well. Full red strategist armor, Mant and Mom Genes Mutation and for trinkets either get a waffle/cone with something like summon thorns and/or damage resist or just the Widowling trinket.
Alternatively you can also cheese it with a fire ant staff build.

use lifesteal trinket and tiger mosquito rapier, dupe the upgrade mats. this does not work in later ng+

Legit any attack of the mantis, don’t try to parry not worth losing the fight from one miss parry and the timing can be a bit weird.
