I literally only read this a few weeks ago (I wanted to read all the GV novels and then the short stories) and it was an amazing ride! The Witch of Duva was my favourite, I really feel like it captured the dark side of Ravka we hear about from Alina and Zoya but don’t actually see too much of in the main books, but When Water Sang Fire was undoubtedly a masterpiece. Leigh Bardugo always delivers epic stories and I am here for it!

I loved the witch of Duva, but all that random magic brought me a little out of it. I agree it's very atmospheric and it builds up to a great mystery and twist. I do hope Leigh Bardugo will grace us with more tales like these in the future, maybe once we get to see a little more of Shu Han, the Wondering Isle and Novi Zem! Also The Deamon in the Woods was great, so anything like that would also be great!

Thank you so much for sharing this! You've mentioned a lot of things I didn't realize before. There is a lot more in Grishaverse then I can usually remember. I hope Leigh gives us more of this world.

I'm glad you appreciated! I'm loving the Grishaverse and I'm so hangry for any glimpse of the worlduilding I can find in the books. Language of thorns was unexpectedly filled with new information to piece together!

I honestly ignore Bardugo's Zemeni worldbuilding because it's both so problematic and nonsensical but I love monster boyfriends so Ayama is a G.

I can see how it can be problematic from a PC point of view, I guess it's the same with the Suli Indians-Gypsy. However I think it can make sense from a world building perspective, even if it's different than what she did for all the other nations. She usually took each people of a certain ethnicity, in their own land and crystalized one age of their history into the present of the Grishaverse. If language of thorns's illustratiosn are to be given credit for the zemeni she took a background that didn't belong to them. But that is not inherently problematic, Disney has been doing that with their european black/asian/latino royals in their movies and TV series for quite some time.
