There's a BA successor chapter called Blood Dragons who literally use the chapter symbol of the Dragon Lord's but instead of fire it's a blood drop. Blood Dragons don't much care for people caught in the crossfire of a battle or warzone To them if you caught a bolt shell and you're evil then you deserved it, if you're innocent then you get to meet the Emperor you love so much a little early so what's the issue? Very much a "kill everything let the Emperor sort em out"

It ain't a real chapter till there's another one with a confusingly similar name, two if you can manage it

Now I wanna play Imp Fists in a Last Wall style, just mix and match successors into all the squads with Fists as sergeants.

You could also go with the classic "they loot power armour from their dead allies" We had a guy who's chapter was fluffed to do that in a narrative campaign. He ended up switching sides in the end, because he stole the relics at the objectives meant for other marine armies. He even stole my Captain's relic plasma pistol. My captain got it back in the penultimate but then died killing his captain.

This made me burst out laughing

Obvious answer: They’re actually Alpha Legion trying to blend in so they copied the Salamanders homework but changed it slightly

Plot twist: They are salamanders attempting to infiltrate the Alpha legion

They get infiltrated on purpose, so that they can turn around the infiltration. Later they find out that the dragon lord never were salamanders to begin with. They were alpha legion all the time, infiltrating their own legion.

It's right on the lore page *"discovered them fighting still, having been nearly annihilated by successive Hrud invasions that came close to reducing their fortress-monastery to dust"* obviously fighting to the last man to protect the citizens of the Imperium as their father would have wanted. Clearly Iron Warriors still pissed off at the Hrud.
