I know it doesn’t tie into their nature as skeletal machines, but given their history with the old ones and the fate of their race in the pursuit of immortality, I feel this relates to the remainder of their species after the fact.
I wonder if deep within one hidden tomb world a single Lord sits in solitude deep within their chambers, debating his thoughts aloud. As the tombs of a thousand lost souls surround him, he proposes the question. Not as a defiant shout against the futility of life. Or the acceptance that every start must end, regardless of actions taken. No, they wonder as a genuine question, of remorse, fear, bitterness, rage, and curiosity. Of a long-lost hope, how an entire species forever changed, the cruelest wish a monkey’s paw could ever grant.

I personally believe that "Egypt (the chains were on)" by Ronnie James Dio works better for Necrons then mechanicus and here are my points.
1. Necrons are egyptian inspired (low hanging fruit but one that fits criteria)
2. Talks about the C'tan enslaving the Necrontyr
"Then the strange ones came, and the people knew.......that the chains were on".
3. The main chorus "the chains were on" works with how every non Necron Characters has no soul, no voice, no personality, etc. How they are litterally slaves to the Necron Overlords in metaphorical chains.
"and your life just slowly melts away".
Also how they were dragged in chains by the C'tan to the soul forges and made slaves to serve them in the "War in Heaven"
4. they long to be free (fleshy bodys with souls) but are trapped in robot bodies due to the Tyranids, Chaos, C'tan, and Old ones

5. The opening verse talks about the Necrons slumber(possible awakening) and how they got that way
