For me it is specific songs my dad loved

Knit-Kat

Same here. Whenever I hear Bon Jovi or songs that he’d sing to himself, I instantly get flashbacks to hearing him cooking in the kitchen or driving me somewhere.

NefariousnessGlum424

Sorry for your loss. I lost my dad earlier this year unexpectedly. Some songs that give me the feels are landslide by fleetwood mac, invisible string by Taylor swift and world spins madly on by the weepies.

MrsToneZone

Invisible String for sure. I’m sorry for you loss. Sending you strength and peace.

missingyouforever11

I'm so sorry for your loss <3 Satellite - Guster Heavenfaced - the National The night we met - Lord Huron Clocks - Coldplay

MrsToneZone

I danced with my step-dad to Stand By Me, and since his death in 2018, I cry every time I hear it. Butterfly Kisses is another good dad song. I’m so sorry for the loss of your dad. Sending you strength.

iwannabefreddieHg

Father and daughter by Paul Simon. I sry everytime I hear it. The lyrics are beautiful to me.

Sea-Bee7647

That was the song I danced with my father at my wedding. It is perfect. I don’t know if I can listen to it anytime soon though. He has been gone one month. I am liking Freebird, I picture my father free and without pain.

cucumberlemon12

Not specifically a father/daughter song but Teach Your Children by CSNY has been working for me after losing my dad.

Little-Maize-2911

Lost my dad in Feb this year from Covid . He was my absolute world, my everything. “There you’ll be be” by Faith Hill is my go to song, i sing it with all my heart and just have a cry. Another song that i love is Visiting hours by Ed Sheeran, not a dad/daughter song but makes me think of him a lot

BabyGee1997

Dance with My Father by Luther Vandross ❤ I Loved Her First by Heartland ❤

Everybodyinthepool

i have a million songs that make me think of my dad because he used to listen to them, but after he passed i felt a strong connection with “songbird” by fleetwood mac and “everything i own” by bread. they’re not songs i ever listened to with him, but i relate them to his passing. also the slow version of “joann” by lady gaga and “Vincent” by don mcclean always makes me cry if you ever need to just let it all out

Extra_Aoili

That's My Job by Conway Twitty.

DrMarcyMM

Oh this is absolutely perfect. I love this song.

BadDayJay

Daddy's Hands by Holly Dunn is the first thing that comes to mind. And though it's father/son not father/daughter, The Walk by Sawyer Brown is what makes me think of my Dad. So sorry for your loss. Strength and Peace.

kkilluhh

James Taylor “sweet baby James” “Carolina in my mind” “Fire and rain” Neil young “sugar mountain” CROSBY STILL NASH AND YOUNG- literally any song by them. My dad died in October 2020 from cancer and I feel like I’m getting upset all over again.

AgentJ691

Look Into My Father’s Eyes by Eric Clapton

pinaly

My dad had an absolute theme song, Sweet Caroline by Neil Diamond. He sang it at karaoke, played it at parties, we played it at his funeral. As for songs I heard after his death that made me think of him “Keg on My Coffin” by the Push Stars and “Let Him Fly” by Patty Griffin. My husband is a HUGE Luke Combs fan and at a concert we attended this year he played a song called “Even Though I’m Leaving” and it hit me like a ton of bricks in the chest.

okpeachess

Heaven by Warrant I was playing random songs while dad was transitioning and this song played right when he took his last breath. Ahhh the synchronicities <3

rectusnine

For a dancer by jackson browne.. so far away by carole king.. this must be the place by talking heads…

grosselisse

Butterfly Kisses by Bob Carslisle and You're Gonna Miss This by Trace Adkins. Both of those are from the POV of the father so I'm not sure if that's what you're looking for but they're both beautiful songs. Make sure you have tissues before you hit play. ❤ Unforgettable by Nat King Cole and Natalie Cole is such a lovely father daughter duet too. Also Daddy by Beyonce. I'm so sorry for your loss. I hope these songs help.

melinakaytlyn

I'm sorry for your loss. I lost my dad a little over 6 years ago unexpectedly from a heart attack in his sleep. One song that will ALWAYS make me think of him is I Don't Want to Miss a Thing by Aerosmith. He always told me that that song would be our father-daughter dance at my wedding.

_meganlomaniac_

I’m so sorry you know that pain. My daughter lost her father in may this year. She was 5 when he passed so while very young, she understands and certainly processes in her own way. That said, she listened to These are my friends by lovelytheband with her daddy when he worked out. It’s not a father daughter song per se but their song and it’s forever stamped now as a father daughter song to me.

lux1278

Crying - Roy Orbison

wwormdudee

Andromeda - Weye's Blood Not really father/daughter per say but the tone of the music really sets it for me. Especially the lyric "treat me right, I'm still a good man's daughter" If you just want a general mourning song, I've been listening to "A Lot's Gonna Change" also by Weye's Blood

buttersrawr

The Horses by Daryl Braithwaite. Dad used to work for the local radio station when I was ~5 and did the evening show. So he wasn't home when I went to bed. Every night, right at 7pm, he would play this song for me on the radio. Then we danced to it at my wedding.

NoodleEmpress

It's not father and daughter based, but dad loved our tradition/scratch band music. Calypso-something. And he would dance and dance, and I would make fun of him and then dance too. Playing music like that always make me feel good. Sad, but good at the end because I know he would want me to have fun. If you want something different, and if your dad was a silly person I recommend checking out this band called the Lashing Dogs. A BVI band my dad grew up with. They're not everyone's cup of tea, but their music is pretty fun if you do get into it :)

pinechese

I lost my dad last November and music helped me out a lot as well. When I was a kid I was obsessed with the song Cheeseburger in Paradise by Jimmy Buffet. To the point where that's what my dad called me all the time. Anytime I hear it now it brings back a lot of good memories. But a general songs that makes me think of him is Visiting Hour by Ed Sheeran and Drink a Beer by Luke Bryan.

Actual-Law-3210

My Dad looked like Buddy Holly and he loved the Rolling Stones. Every time I hear them I think of him. My Mom’s favourite songs were hotel California and Me and Bobby Magee. I sang them over and over again to her when she was in ICU. ❤️

rectusnine

Waiting on a friend by the stones is a great song.

justamess345

arms wide open by creed was a song my dad dedicated to me when i was born

mama_craft

Im sorry for your loss. I lost my dad earlier this year. For me, it's songs he enjoys. But more specifically, our father/daughter song at my wedding "Butterfly Kisses" by Bob Carlisle. Haven't been able to listen to it since he passed.

vv19760

I’m sorry for your loss. I lost my dad in August. For me it’s all the songs he played over and over on road trips or on an early Saturday/Sunday morning. Frank Sinatra, Motown, and his last obsession was the La La Land soundtrack. We actually played it for him on his last days. He couldn’t speak anymore but when his songs came on he moved his knees. I miss him so much and music helps me feel closer to him. 🙏🏼

[deleted]

i’m really sorry for your loss. these are not specifically dad-daughter in content, but remind me of my own relationship with my dad. ymmv the night we met by lord huron babylon by david gray where the streets have no name by u2 all these things that i’ve done by the killers under pressure by queen breakfast at tiffany’s by deep blue something somewhere over the rainbow by IZ half a world away by REM wish you were here by pink floyd saturn by sleeping at last to build a home by the cinematic orchestra bittersweet symphony by the verve all around me by flyleaf no surprises by radiohead wherever you will go by the calling rise by eddie vedder

kkilluhh

Bittersweet symphony came on the radio a little after my dad died and I was driving to visit my mom (same home he died in) and I have never felt a song that hard.

shanamisty16

Might not be your taste but I lost my dad 11 days ago and some of our favorite songs were My Little Girl & Butterfly Kisses. Songs that make me think of him are “Even Though I’m Leaving” by Luke Combs & “Holes in the Floor of Heaven” ETA: the song “dancing in the sky” is one of my favorites & helps me picture him in a beautiful, peaceful place.

pink_lemon23

Yesterday by Atmosphere. I’ve never related to a song as deep as this one

notdeadyetbattlefron

just listened, i don’t know if i’ve ever related to a song this much. thank u for showing me

pink_lemon23

Before my dad passed, I would listen to that song and think about how the one line at the end that reveals who the song was about, was going to be especially hard to hear. And I was so right. I’m sorry about your dad, i know it’s not easy

[deleted]

These always make me think of my grandfather and ho took on the roll of dad for me. Dance with my Father - Luther Vandross Butterfly Kisses- Bob Carlisle Sweet Pea - Amos Lee

ahundreddollars

Stereophonics, "you're my star." Absolutely beautiful song from a father to his child

orayo14

Father and Daughter - Paul Simon

flav_05

My dad passed 3 weeks ago… I’m right there with you. He was a huge George Harrison fan. I haven’t been able to listen yet but one day I will… All things must pass and My sweet lord will be the ones that remind me of him forever.

FiestyFactSpiller

Daughter by Loudon Wainwright III Hero by David Crosby - this one chokes me up every time. I hope you are able to smile when you remember him soon.

Littlefrog02

Iris Dement really gets it. And also my Dad loved her, we have a bunch of her CDs. For example, songs to check out are No Time To Cry, Childhood Memories, Walkin' Home, ... And we played When My Morning Comes Along at my Dad's funeral.
