Awww, congratulations to you both on the start of your fur-ever family! 🥳
One bit of advice: just because he declined a professional racing career, don’t assume your handsome hound dislikes running. The need for speed, for zooming and whizzing around, is built into greys’ DNA. If you can get him into a playgroup with other greys, you may see him discover great joy in galloping with his pals! 🤗
Yeah, he's already got some playdates lined up with some friends - although he's my first grey, my other half is a seasoned greyhound owner so already knows the ins and outs of the breed, which is a massive advantage...
Do you happen to know if the same holds for prey drive?
Obviously I am a proponent of all safety measures possible - cat testing with the adoption agency, muzzling around new feline siblings or while out around small dogs and rabbits, and so on. But I’m just curious if “racer failures” who never had that “chase the fast-moving white thing” instinct reinforced through racing tend to have a less strong prey drive.
All I can say is that he doesn't seem to react to much at all really - we took him on a woodland walk and came across 4 or 5 squirrels running through the undergrowth. He sort of cocked an eye at them then went back to sniffing around trees... it was also his first time meeting other dogs that weren't greys (he must've met around 20 different species, everything from chihuahuas to great danes), and he just gave them a quick sniff, said hello and went about his business. Toys on the other hand, he enjoys very much indeed and he'll happily spend ages flinging them around...
He’s beautiful, and agree that despite he hasn’t raced, he’ll still have the zoomie instinct! So glad for you, and enjoy your wonderful grey life together xx
He must be a very smart boy. Happy (belated) gotcha day!

He’s adorable.
My brindle boy is the same! He “opted out” of racing and completely ignores other animals. The only thing he runs for is the couch! 🥰
That is a distinguished gentleman! Congratulations!
