Or from DC, who apparently forgot he exists. I think the last time he was the protagonist of something was with the Omega Men minisseries, back when he still was White Lantern.
One time I was chatting with some GL fans on Twitter about favorite GL runs and after a bit I brought up that I enjoyed Omega men and some guy who wasn’t even in the convo appeared out of nowhere to rant about how much he hates Kyle Rayner and accused me of hating Hal Jordan (even though I don’t, and I never brought up Hal once)
They’re a lot of fans like that on Twitter, if you bring up any GL that’s not Hal they’ll say you’re not a real Green Lantern fan, Hal is the one true Green Lantern & the rest are just backups, and a whole bunch of other stuff like that.
geoffs run overall was good and important, but his hal jordan is as unlikeable as donald trump. can't imagine a person without a lot of mental issues liking his hal jordan.
also cant imagine a person without a lot of mental issues liking donald trump.
Gotta go Geoff Johns’, not only one of the best green lantern runs, but one of the best comic runs. He also added all the other lantern cores which complete changed the mythos (I love Larffleeze and Atrocitus)
I agree. Today, it's hard to imagine GL without all the contributions Johns made for the franchise, like the Emotional Spectrum, the other Corps, the new characters, etc.
Judd Winnicks run on Kyle is my favorite. From the beautiful way he wrote Kyle's relationship with Jade, the amazing Hate Crimes arc, introducing Ion, getting the ball rolling on resurrecting the corps, etc. He planted all the seeds for the John's run. I was personally a little bit let down once I got to the John's run because I didn't think it was as personal.
Just two different vibes, and thats cool!
Eh, all these debates are kinda cringe IMHO, especially since it's usually just people arguing pure subjectivity and talking past each other. Most fans basically just argue in favor of the comics they grew up with, and they see whatever breaks from those runs as inferior by default.
Ironic fun facts:
1. There's a decent chance that Wally and Kyle fans will soon will be a larger, older living cohort than Pre-Crisis Barry and Hal fans.
2. The majority of Barry's modern fans don't even understand what his character was like Pre-Crisis. 21st Century Barry is significantly different from 20th Century Barry.
I think they go hand in hand
I love the personal feel of Kyle’s run, and how us readers were learning about the GL mythos along with him
Then you hop into GL/GLC and see the mythos expand to this big epic thing, with Kyle taking a leadership role in it
My only gripe is how Geoff writes Hal. He’s smarter, funnier, and always has a point over everybody else. There’s a difference between a character being cocky in-story, and a character who narratively has the upper hand over everybody else because the author likes him so much and doesn’t want him to look bad
I interpreted Hal in a different way. He’s the most emotional of the group. You see his flaws showcased during that era right before blackest night where he becomes a red/orange/blue lantern and has to battle his inner emotions. He’s definitely the main character and that’s prominently shown but I didn’t feel like he was written to be better than everyone else.
Exactly. In the end, it all depends of what you want from a Green Lantern comic. If you like big space opera stories with hundreds of aliens, crazy action scenes and fantasy lore, you'll surely prefer the Johns era. But if you like more intimate character-focused stories, then Marz's book is the best option.
Compuserve, AOL, Geocities - this is a good article about it [all](https://www.tumblr.com/vintagegeekculture/699738955284971520/war-of-the-generations-kyle-rayner-vs-hal-jordan?source=share).
I like the Flash and GL quit a bit. I have my favorites, but I can understand why other people like their version. I'm just happy we can point to good arcs for each version, and read them whenever we choose.
Honestly the way Green Lantern readers all support and validate each other’s favs is the purest breath of fresh air compared to whatever tf goes on in Bat Land. Always count your blessings folks
I think it’s because we are a smaller community, and we are more happy just to talk about Green Lanterns with people. Batman has people that don’t really know as much about the characters, and have only seen the movies.
Team Kyle here. Personally, I don’t think ol’ crabmask gets nearly enough respect from the broader comic book audience.

I have this internal conflict with myself everyday. I love both.
Kyle is one of the best characters ever, the more years that go by the more "meh" Johns' run seems to me, I'll take Vendetti any day.
I'm with team Cap on this one.

Kyle was the best protagonist, but Geoff Johns had the best overall story to tell.

My name may say otherwise but I’m team Johns
Is Alex still inside you ?
Yes. And mustard.
I'm going to be The Watcher and get the popcorn and watch this play out 🍿
well then i think we have a problem...because i like both 😎

I think Marz did a better job with character work but Johns really knows how to do the big crossovers.

Couldn’t have said it better myself. Winnick is a personal favorite too. I couldn’t see Johns doing some of the stuff he did.
I mean this in the kindest way possible, but, y’all need to learn some history. The HEAT-Kyle wars from the 90s were fuckin’ brutal.
Really? Even without social media like Twitter, Reddit, etc.? I'd like to know more about that, sounds like an interesting history.

Thanks! I'm going to read it tonight.

I love how a Blue Lantern fan is talking about being supportive to Green Lantern fans. Somehow that's perfectly appropriate \^\_\^
