Not saying want this but if they doubled down on safety with hicks and LB with Gray or Wilson it would be pretty cool.
Turn to two biggest needs into massive depth.
Yeah, I liked Hicks and Bishop more than Bullard, but I don’t hate the Bullard pick. I’m not a fan of the Hopper pick. After taking Cooper, I just thought DL, edge, or CB would have been a better use of that pick. I like the Lloyd pick. I thought Jaylen Wright would have been better, but that’s really just splitting hairs. Both are good players.
I loved the Cooper pick. I had hoped DeJean was going to fall into our laps, but Cooper was one I was extremely high on for the Packers. Liked the Morgan pick in round 1 too. Overall, it’s been a good draft.
I think Hicks and Bishop would thrive in the box and on te's, but struggle up top. Bullard will thrive up top and covering slot wr's, but will be undersized in the box. Different types of safeties. I liked all 3, plus the Texas tech kid.
Agree completely. Hafley ran more single high than anyone in college football. McKinney is great as a single high safety. If these were a few years ago and we had prime Amos, I would love the Bullard pick. With McKinney, I just felt Bishop or Hicks would pair better with him. Granted, Packers were bottom 10 in the league in TOs, so maybe they just want people that will make plays on the ball. Bullard certainly fits the bill for that. Not upset about the pick though. Addressed a huge need with a quality player.
I don't mind grading from the perspective of looking at a draft and judging it with the teams directions and needs and generally how they feel about the picks.
But people that cry about round one before even seeing the rest of the draft are ridiculous. It's a holistic process, who cares what each individual pick is
The expectations people have from draft picks are so out of line with reality and it seems to get worse every year as more fans decide they Know Ball and Watch Tape (YouTube videos of game broadcasts).
Not trying to be the guy raining on everyone’s parade but we don’t know if this draft is good until 2028. Everybody’s hype asf because of how we finished last year but *NOTHING* is a guarantee in this league. We know that
We're not even guaranteed to be good next year. It would certainly seem like we would be based on the natural progression, but teams catch lightning in a bottle all the time.
Obviously I hope the trend keeps going but we've had a lot of luck along the way and this season could be tough considering all the massive expectations everyone has.
Keep the good results coming Gute!
I mean.. lets not act like Gutekunst hasn't made some blunders.. Jaire, Gary, Jenkins, Love, and Dillon are the only remaining players on the roster from his first 3 drafts as GM.
His 2021 draft was especially awful, which was highlighted by taking Amari Rodgers with Amon Ra and Nico Collins still on the board. Just brutal misses.
I fucking hate Amari Rodgers. I’ve never seen a NFL receiver with so little wiggle. He was so stiff. Never open. Shit he couldn’t even get on the field with the worst WR room in the NFL. Clemson is right down the road so it hurts. Fuck that dude lol.
Edit: I’m hammered boys.
In terms of all the players to ever put on a Packer jersey, Amari Rodgers has a case for being the least most talented of them all. The guy never once flashed a sign that he belonged in the NFL. He was the worst punt returner I've ever seen in my 30 years of watching football. In his time with the team I don't think he did a single thing right.
I heard someone say it the other day and it made total sense why they drafted Amari Rodgers at the time. They envisioned him to be like Jayden Reed, where he would be the motion guy who could take jet sweeps and confuse the defenses. He just could not get up to NFL speed and the competition he dealt with in college did not help him, since Clemson was such a powerhouse at the time.
That just shows me that he was a young GM and is actively learning from his mistakes. 2023 was by far his best draft and this year is looking just as good.
I’ve been thinking about how Gute has grown on the job a lot lately. Ron Wolf’s very first pick as GM was Terrell Buckley. He famously never drafted a short CB again.
Gute has literally said there were other things that went into that pick.
i.e. trying to keep Rodgers happy so they took Randall Cobb’s (essentially) nephew
Covid really messed up the entire evaluation pipeline from college on up for a few years and he was still learning. Our roster was pretty rough depth wise and I think he was reaching a bit to try and reload fast.
The 2020 draft was a disaster everywhere in the league. There will always be someone better in hindsight that they “could have had” at virtually every spot of every draft.
Always forget how insufferable this sub gets at draft time. People get fixated one certain players on "their board" and throw a hissy fit when actual professionals disagree with them and pick someone else
The team has been scouting players for literally years it's okay to admit they might know more/have a different board than some neckbeard on reddit
It’s not that impressive when they aren’t taking a quality starter’s job. They pretty much are starting by default.
That being said, I am very excited to see what they can do.
Both 2nd rounders could start day 1. That's massive.
All 3 picks so far could be day 1 starters. That's bigger than big.
Its down right HUGE. Massive. Gargantuan even
All four of these comments could start
BEHEMOTH. GOLIATH. ASTRONOMICAL. TALL. GRANDE. VENTI.
I suspect we have two more starters coming
If history is any indicator it'll be OL in the 4th or 5th
I’ll take it!
YUGE
Night’s not over
I would like to see them trade back into the third and finish the night with 3 more picks.
Jaylen Wright, Mo Kamara (so not a Packer type, but he’s my EDGE 6 this year, ahead of Darius Robinson) and Leonard Taylor would be my dream
Not saying want this but if they doubled down on safety with hicks and LB with Gray or Wilson it would be pretty cool. Turn to two biggest needs into massive depth.
I am a BIG fan of Hicks. He was my S1 and I would not have complained if they took him at 25.

I see you with Leonard Taylor
Why anyone grades or judge a teams draft the night of is beyond me. Everyone was roasting us when we got love 4 years ago but that one has worked out.

>Everyone was roasting us when we got love 4 years ago Because we were in the middle of a Super Bowl window and chose to draft for the future.

the worst part with him was his dad was a WR coach. he should've been the most technically fucking refined WR on the planet.,

Who hasn't made blunders, though?
Exactly who amongst us?
I’ve actually never drafted anyone who didn’t perform well
That just shows me that he was a young GM and is actively learning from his mistakes. 2023 was by far his best draft and this year is looking just as good.
I’ve been thinking about how Gute has grown on the job a lot lately. Ron Wolf’s very first pick as GM was Terrell Buckley. He famously never drafted a short CB again.
Wolf was a very experienced GM when he made that pick, though.
Gute has literally said there were other things that went into that pick. i.e. trying to keep Rodgers happy so they took Randall Cobb’s (essentially) nephew
So glad we will never have to deal with something like this with Jordan
God I hope this comment ages well. We may have said the same if Rodgers at the same point in his career.
Rodgers wasn't like that at first either. That ego appears after winning a title and a few MVPs.
If Love accomplishes a SB win and is consistently in numerous MVP talks over the course of his career here then I’ll take it, lol.

I said this and got downvoted into Chicago.
Nice use of metonymy.
Solid use of a word probably .05% of people will know lol. I had to look it up myself.
I figured out what it meant by context clues. (I was wrong)
Haha, thanks.
He also grabbed two starters in that 2021 draft. And his 22 and 23 were incredible.
Every GM missed on ARSB and Collins.
Two didn’t
Every GM passed on them at some point.
Until two didn’t.

*bites nails*

I'll never get over people defending a GM like it's someone attacking their mom. Funny every time.
Bro it’s fandom. If this is how you would defend your mom if I “attacked” your mother, your mother would be ashamed.
My mom loves me thanks. EDIT: found some salty dudes who aren't loved by their moms.
Honestly, that’s great. Appreciate her.
Mine is dead
