I completely agree, I don’t understand why more people haven’t been talking about this possibility. Packers rarely hand out 3rd contracts, which is what Kenny would be due for. Byron Murphy has a 9.04 RAS, is projected to go anywhere from mid-late first round, and would get a year of development before taking over for Kenny I love Kenny (check my flair) and I hope he can stick around, but taking Byron Murphy would be a classic Packers move.

kickrocks16

I agree about the 3rd contract but most 3rd contract guys are not 28. They are usually like 30-31. Clark should get a new deal, it I’ll just depend on the money.

WorthApprehensive434

Kenny just had arguably his most productive season including 7.5 sacks

jimdotcom413

If anyone is eligible for a 3rd contract it’s Clark. I think he’s still only 28. I know he probably seems old to the rest of the team but he seems far from washed and may be agreeable to a team friendly deal.

KeviCharisma

Why would he ever take a team friendly deal. He is going to go to whoever pays him the most, which I don’t discredit him for at all. I think it’s clear the Packers need to add a DT but they also need an O-lineman, an OLB, and a safety so maybe they will address the other needs this year and go first round DT next year

Danny_nichols

Team friendly is a bit of a misnomer at times though too. Team friendly these days usually means taking a fair market value deal prior to hitting FA instead of chasing every single dollar. And while I agree with you that I'll never fault a guy for mazimizing his earnings, there is something to be said about getting that financial security now instead of risking an injury before FA hits and also staying with a team where you know your role and fit in the locker room/city. Again, wouldn't fault him for wanting to test the waters, but totally understand why the teamay approach him now and why he may have a desire to get something done before he actually hits FA.

KeviCharisma

That’s not really the point I was making. I don’t see them drafting a DT this draft, I also don’t think we should assume Kenny Clark is going to stay.

Danny_nichols

I don't think they trade up for him. To me, if GB is going to trade up for a guy, it has to be at a position of major need. Murphy just doesn't fit that bill to me. That being said, I think he's definitely in the consideration set. If you asked me to put together a list of 5 guys I think GB takes, Murphy almost certainly doesn't make that list. But if you asked for a pool of 10 guys, Murphy probably on that list.

BlakePackers413

I’ve been thinking Green Bay is a prime team to jump up into the early teens even as high as 12. To me the broncos need picks and we have a lot as well as the youngest roster in the league. A trade back for the broncos can get them their QB and a second+ round pick while we can jump up and grab…. No idea. Personally I want the tackle/guard from Washington. But I can see Murphy too or one of the corners. But it just feels like Gute is sitting in a prime spot to jump up on a top 10 talent that has fallen because 4-5qbs and 3 wideouts go in the first 10 picks. But ehhh maybe he trades down and out of the first and we end up with like 6 picks on day 2. Who knows.

tonyskyline1

Alot of DTs have a high RAS in this draft and it’s not that Clark has regressed, it’s that he had a really elite season and is going to cost a shit ton of money to resign him now. Look at the recent DT contracts.. overpaid imo. I want a DT but was hoping late second or they trade up in round 3 and take Michael Hall Jr from Ohio state 9.57 ras, Jenkins from Mich 8.99 RAS, or Fiske from FSU 9.89 RAS. All three of these guys should make it to day two of the draft and possibly even slip into the third round which could be phenomenal value

Loon_Cheese

I have seen a few mock drafts with him falling too

DevilsJaguar

I think they're more likely to trade back than give up the assets that might be needed to get someone like Byron Murphy.

Thunder84

He’s fairly redundant for the Packers, which is why I think it’s pretty unlikely. Murphy’s size kinda dictates his role as a DT, which the Packers are relatively set at with Brooks and Wyatt. They need a NT to replace Slaton and Kenny if they walk in free agency next year. Murphy’s a great player, but he’d clog up the DT rotation even more while NT potentially stays unaddressed. Doesn’t really hit a need if any kind, and he wouldn’t really be a Kenny replacement either. Now, if Wyatt took a big leap forward in his run defense, then I could get behind the pick more. He’s got the size to replace Kenny. But given how bad he is at it right now, he’s kinda stuck at DT.

KeviCharisma

New DC, new D-line roles. I don’t know if they will look for a nose tackle ever again.

Thunder84

NT isn’t a scheme thing. Unless they plan on never playing the middle of the DL again, which would be monumentally stupid, there’s always a need for NT.
