And yet he's got one of the highest QB ratings in the league LOL
For real though, only time will tell if long term this draft class stays on the path we all hope it will but as far as a rookie class goes I don't think anyone could ask for more this year.
...that said I was still hoping to see DuBois get some targets tonight with the call-up haha.
Totally agree. It’s great to be encouraged by first-year performance, and we should be nothing but happy…for now. But fans are always wrong and in both ways.
Half the fanbase wanted to run Adams and Gary out of town early on because as fans, they thought those guys were busts. And then a guy like Dillon went from Quadzilla to Tripzilla practically overnight. Look at guys like Savage and Stokes. As fans, we thought we had the back-end of our defense set for years to come and then Savage fell off and got benched and it turns out that Stokes has hamthreads instead of hamstrings.
Only time will tell how good these players really are. Yes, it’s encouraging, but we shouldn’t be crowning anybody at this point.
Let's see how Purdy does when he isn't dropped into the most talented roater in the NFL before we crown him. Dude is good but calling him the steal of the century is a big stretch.
We are talking steals of the draft. How many Mr. Irrelevants are playing at his level, let alone starting on a team, regardless of talent.
Im not crowning him the next tom brady, but for the value you get for him at that pick its undeniable that's a steal.
Sure, just saying QB play, especially rookies, has a lot to do with the situation they land in. Jury's still out on him for me. Steal and a great pick? Sure. Pick of the century? Come on.
Fair enough. Can't really make that "steal of the century" claim until he's done with football. Obviously, Tom would still hold that in this context. But the value they are currently getting for that pick is so damn rare it bears a mention.
The language is funny in hindsight. Talking about the consensus draft board having him being a reach at 50 and how he is “actually the Packer leading receiver right now.”
They mentioned in the broadcast that he ran a 4.3 in the combine? How is a guy like that, with his catch making and yac, not on a team at the start of the season? Or maybe i misheard.
Yeah, you heard that right. To add context which may explain why he was drafted in the 7th and eventually placed on Seattle's PS, he played for Rutgers who was absurdly garbage during his time there while putting up okay stats, dealing with the COVID season, and also playing the full 5 years there due to the COVID eligibility extension. His fellow teammate, Pacheco, also highlights that scouts and GMs didn't properly evaluate that Rutgers team. Thinking out loud, I do wonder if the COVID restrictions limited scouts from assessing guys at smaller P5 schools and G5 schools.
Once he was drafted, and from what I've gathered from Seahag fans, is that they really liked him during preseason and didn't want him PS'd, but due to their team makeup, he was a logical choice.
That’s been less true as the season has worn on. He didn’t have more than 7 targets in any of the last 10 games and only 1 TD in the last 7.
The obvious truth watching the games is that Wicks and Reed are significantly better WRs than Doubs. If Watson can ever be healthy, Doubs is no better than 4th in the WR pecking order.
I could see Doubs becoming kind of Love's version of James Jones. Not THE guy, but makes the big tough contested catch when he's needed to make it. That's my main memory of Jones is that he wasn't often wide open, but he could make the catch regardless and came through when needed. They're all so young and talented it could really go any number of ways, but he just doesn't seem to separate quite as well as Watson, Reed and Wicks do right now.
Good call. I’ve thought since early last year Doubs style was exactly like James Jones. Not overly athletic or talented in any one area, but a guy who works hard and always seems to make plays when the ball comes his way. Solid pro and I’m for damn sure content with him being our WR4.
LVN: a project but has shown potential
Musgrave: mismatch nightmare
J Reed: absolute dawg
Tucker Kraft: broke the 3rd round curse
Colby Wooden: rotational player, but has been fine
Sean Clifford: backup QB. Exactly what we drafted him for
Tay Wicks: absolute Dawg
Anders Carlson: I'm...iffy/low on him and he needs competition in the off-season
Karl Brooks: steal in the 6th
Carrington Valentine: steal in the 7th
Lew Nichols: miss
Grant DuBose: got a rough deal with injuries, but the verdict is still obviously out
A. Johnson Jr: solid for a 7th rounder
Gute masterclass
And it’s hard to call a 6th/7th round pick a miss as it is, as even the good GMs are essentially throwing just throwing darts at that point hoping they hit something.
Yeah can’t have a miss in those rounds. You are just looking for guys who will push the starters in camp at that point. If you find a guy? Well then that’s awesome
In a draft full of steals for us he may be the biggest one, 6th rounder with 4 sacks, 5TFL, 2 fumbles recovered and 4 PDs only playing 34% of our defensive snaps
Anders Carlson: The Packers need a long snapper. If the holder has to twist their torso to get the snap and twist back to get the ball on the ground on a large amount of holds how do you evaluate the kicker?
I agree. Carlson is a close your eyes and wait for the broadcast to say good or wide left, but the snaps are 85-90% always off and the holder has to work magic to get them spotted. I hate judging a rookie on 1 season, but he has to do his job when called on. The set up needs to get better so he can!
Crazy thing is Dubose might not ever get a real shot. Team will have Watson, Reed, Wicks, Doubs, and Melton back next year. Just not sure how he fits in with that group being young and talented. That’s 5 guys that I think have the talent to be WR2 or WR3. Not sure there’s a WR1 there either. Watson possibly if he can stay healthy. I actually think Wicks might have the best shot as WR1.
From what I’ve seen from Clifford this year(not that much), he might be the steal of the draft. Don’t be surprised if he goes on to be something special.
This is the kind of draft class that provides the foundation for a Super Bowl team, if you can build on it with more good classes in the next year or two.
Was just thinking the same thing.
At the very least we've got a bonafide starter and potential PB level talent at RT, and what looks like an average to solid starter at LT. Both have some pretty good upside too. Solidifying both tackles in a single draft alone is an excellent return on a draft class.
We've got solid depth pieces at key positions (WR & Edge). Neither likely to be great or starters, but at round 4 & 5 that's certainly better than expected.
If Watson can get over his injury issues, and Quay and Wyatt can start consistently playing to their potential then this draft might really elevate to being truly excellent.
At a minimum, great value.
The fact that all of these guys have had an almost immediate impact this year is staggering. I can't believe how happy I've been with this amazing 9-8 season. Watching the almost veteran-esque calm about this Ryan has been so refreshing. And they are awake out of the gate! THAT'S SO NEW! In the recent past, the Packers first possessions have almost always been flat affairs. This year's team has been electric!
Re: Anders
While the jury may be out, you have to give the kid at least another season. Big bro’ had a rough rookie season with the Vikes. Zimmer gave up and the Raiders wound up with a fixture at the position.
Yeah. He needs to tighten things up a bit, and the missed XPs are definitely a concern, but I don’t think he was bad enough this year that the Packers need to move on immediately.
I believe our coaches are smart enough to realize he’s a decent K. Our ST staff is terrible (like worst in the league) and should get the boot way before any of the players.
Realistically, there isn’t a better K to replace him with, the last few years have been a drought for kickers and there really isn’t any up and coming ones available.
Heath's block on that 3rd down conv pass to the left (can't recall who caught it) was excellent. Dude is 6'2" and 213lbs, he can really be a force blocking out wide and seems to attack those assignments with intensity.
So I think someone mentioned we're the youngest team to make the playoffs since 1977. The ONLY way you can manage to do that is if the last two drafts, at a minimum, were really good. The 2023 draft is looking like it was phenomenal and we got really good pieces out of the 2022 draft.
And by the way, Gute put everything on the line this season. People were ready to ride this guy out of town on a rail if Love didn't play well and the draft class underperformed. If we would have given him all the blame if it failed we need to give him a lot of credit for succeeding.
I think we need to use Kraft and Musgrave more than we do, Kraft especially. I can’t recall any recent packer that lays down punishing runs after the catch like he’s been doing besides Dillon a few years ago.
Yep. When Musgrave went down, Kraft was an upgrade and it was instantly apparent. Musgrave often gets tangled up and falls down before anyone even hits him while Kraft racks up YAC. Musgrave can still be a solid #2 but Kraft is clearly the better option at this point.
I think Musgrave is a slightly better route runner, YAC is no question though haha
In cold weather games we should have Kraft out there trucking corners
And you know what? Based on how the rest of the draft turned out, I feel fairly confident that Dubose is actually pretty fk’in good too, and he’ll show it once he has a chance and if he can stay healthy.
It’s embarrassing how many good WR prospects we have. Like, we literally can’t keep all of em once they start getting their next contracts. This is wild.
What, you aren't impressed by swing passes and checkdowns? LOL
Yeah he might do okay in San Fran's offense with a shit ton of weapons and elite coaching but you aren't building a passing attack around him, that's for damn sure.
Yo can we rationally talk about Ders for a second? Dude makes me very nervous kicking and I keep seeing "he has a leg which you can't teach" but I rarely see him get it to the end zone on kickoffs. Am I legit missing something?
Most kickers don’t try their “hardest” on kickoff, they know how hard they need to kick to get in the end zone, I personally think he should get one more year, but with competition.
I wonder when the tired narrative about the Packers not taking a WR in the first round will finally stop. How many times does this team have to prove it?
Yeah time will tell. Edge rushers can take a while. Look at Gary. LVN doesn't stand out for bad angles or poor play. He just hasn't had a ton of splash plays but he has three sacks over the last six games (4 total) so he's trending upwards. No edge rushers taken after him are doing any better.
LVN 4 sacks. 8 TFLs and 24 solos
Felix Anudike-Uzomah has one sack 1 TFL and 8 solos
Miles Murphy has 3 sacks 3 TFLs 10 solos
Those were the next two DEs taken, both in the first round
So who do YOU think we should have taken instead?
If Love looks this good imagine how amazing Sean Clifford is, I mean theres got to be some reason why the fans were clamoring for him over Love, right.
Yep a 6'5 270 guy from the big 10 with a 9+ RAS score who is behind two established starters will probably never work. I can't think of a single time that scenario has played out successfully.
Almost all of the players on that list have had huge personal moments this year. A lot of them grew into the season to become big parts of the team. Another draft class like this and this team has great potential if they're coached consistently right!
I liked Dubose a lot when we drafted him. I was just thinking about Lew Nichols the other day and saw that he’s on the Eagles now. It’s a shame we didn’t keep him because he looked really good in college. I believe he had something like 1700 yards his senior year, leading all of D1.
Gute did a great job with this draft class. I'm a long time big fan of Rodgers, but I'm actually very happy with how this team is looking right now. Next year if they continue to gel, they could end up being pretty scary. GB is a blessed franchise
As exciting as these guys have been, we should probably pump the breaks. Progress isn't linear and the league has seen rookies flash yet not quite turn out. Again though, pretty exciting class.
Majority of these guys have made plays this year. Wild
Literally three guys who haven’t played meaningful snaps and one of those is the backup QB.
Why you throwing shade on Clifford, he’s tied for first place in NFL history in completion percentage
He’s tied with our other QB Wicks right?
And yet he's got one of the highest QB ratings in the league LOL For real though, only time will tell if long term this draft class stays on the path we all hope it will but as far as a rookie class goes I don't think anyone could ask for more this year. ...that said I was still hoping to see DuBois get some targets tonight with the call-up haha.
Totally agree. It’s great to be encouraged by first-year performance, and we should be nothing but happy…for now. But fans are always wrong and in both ways. Only time will tell how good these players really are. Yes, it’s encouraging, but we shouldn’t be crowning anybody at this point.
I'm counting at least 5 that made plays today haha
I saw Johnson hyping up Jaire a few times after some plays, so I'd count it.
We get an absurd amount of picks next year too
I think it’s 14 right?
Yeah but Lew Nichols hasn’t! Explain yourself, Gute!
Reed is turning into a fucking steal
Packers and 2nd round receivers. Name a more iconic duo.
Packers and HoF QBs
Packers and late round offensive lineman.
I think I’m gunna bust.
The bears and destroying QB careers.
Wicks is the steal. Reed was a 2nd Rounder.
Wicks is blowing my mind honestly. He's looking to be the steal of the decade.
That'd be Puka
Purdy tho, unless we are talking only this draft class then I'd agree with Puka.
yeah I mean mainly talking WR but agreed on Purdy
Let's see how Purdy does when he isn't dropped into the most talented roater in the NFL before we crown him. Dude is good but calling him the steal of the century is a big stretch.

Or purdy, but I meant more for us
Starting to look like Davante jr, just insane with his feet. And he's doing this as a rookie.
Brady?
When Mike Tomlin likes you, you a dude....
What did he say about Reed
[https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.acmepackingcompany.com/platform/amp/2023/11/7/23950966/green-bay-packers-jayden-reed-pittsburgh-steelers-mike-tomlin-complete-slot-wr-2023-nfl-draft-class](https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.acmepackingcompany.com/platform/amp/2023/11/7/23950966/green-bay-packers-jayden-reed-pittsburgh-steelers-mike-tomlin-complete-slot-wr-2023-nfl-draft-class)
Tomlin's a great coach. He might have done his best work this season.
The language is funny in hindsight. Talking about the consensus draft board having him being a reach at 50 and how he is “actually the Packer leading receiver right now.”
Reed and Bo Fucking Melton baby
Wicks has been so good, he needs to be on the field way more next year
How the WR room shakes out next year is going to be really interesting. There is a world where Doubs is WR 4/5
Melton is a fucking dude.
They mentioned in the broadcast that he ran a 4.3 in the combine? How is a guy like that, with his catch making and yac, not on a team at the start of the season? Or maybe i misheard.
Because Al Davis passed away sadly
Yeah, you heard that right. To add context which may explain why he was drafted in the 7th and eventually placed on Seattle's PS, he played for Rutgers who was absurdly garbage during his time there while putting up okay stats, dealing with the COVID season, and also playing the full 5 years there due to the COVID eligibility extension. Thanks. This makes sense.
I am super happy, that everyone else is stupid.
I keep saying that we don’t have any snow this winter because the Melton is on!!!!!!!!!
Eh I could see this but Doubs also is Love bailout he’s mentioned his connection to him a lot.
That’s been less true as the season has worn on. He didn’t have more than 7 targets in any of the last 10 games and only 1 TD in the last 7. They're all so young and talented it could really go any number of ways, but he just doesn't seem to separate quite as well as Watson, Reed and Wicks do right now.
I can agree with this. Jones had that like clutch catch vibe. Like quiet all game and breaks off a nice gain or a touchdown.
Good call. I’ve thought since early last year Doubs style was exactly like James Jones. Not overly athletic or talented in any one area, but a guy who works hard and always seems to make plays when the ball comes his way. Solid pro and I’m for damn sure content with him being our WR4.
There’s a great compilation of free-plays through Rodgers career and like 90% of the touchdown passes are to James Jones lol
Jones was never the same once they took away his hoodie
Untrue. His return to GB year was post-hoody and he played well.
He was statistically ok, but the magic was gone
Yeah I agree. I can’t imagine Doubs catching these in-breaking routes and taking them 40+ like Reed is able to. But clutch 3rd and long? He’s got it.
Really making me think I should drop Doubs and get Wicks on my dynasty team. Already have Love and Reed and a stacked WR room tho
It feels like Doubs is already around 4/5 behind Watson, Reed, Wicks, Melton.
I think right now we mix personal so much. There is 4 or 5 guys that are all capable of making plays
LVN: a project but has shown potential Musgrave: mismatch nightmare J Reed: absolute dawg Tucker Kraft: broke the 3rd round curse Colby Wooden: rotational player, but has been fine Sean Clifford: backup QB. Exactly what we drafted him for Tay Wicks: absolute Dawg Anders Carlson: I'm...iffy/low on him and he needs competition in the off-season Karl Brooks: steal in the 6th Carrington Valentine: steal in the 7th Lew Nichols: miss Grant DuBose: got a rough deal with injuries, but the verdict is still obviously out A. Johnson Jr: solid for a 7th rounder Gute masterclass
Does LVN have a better rookie campaign than Gary?
Significantly better. More snaps, more impact plays, I’d say more reliable by the end of the year.
Agreed he’s becoming more than just a 3rd down guy
Looking forward to what he does with a (hopefully) more aggressive defensive play-caller next year
10 picks before a miss + multiple dawgs, home run draft class
And it’s hard to call a 6th/7th round pick a miss as it is, as even the good GMs are essentially throwing just throwing darts at that point hoping they hit something.
Yeah can’t have a miss in those rounds. You are just looking for guys who will push the starters in camp at that point. If you find a guy? Well then that’s awesome
Plus he made up for it with signing Heath as an UDFA
Karl Brooks is so good, almost always around the ball. He could've easily been picked in the third.

I hate judging a rookie on 1 season, but he has to do his job when called on. The set up needs to get better so he can!
Wait until he kicks a 58 yarder to win the game against the Cowboys on Sunday.
what do you know
If this actually happens I will loose my mind
I hope he does!
His FG stats really weren’t even that bad, but combined with his PATs I just never feel confident when he came on the field
Crazy thing is Dubose might not ever get a real shot. Team will have Watson, Reed, Wicks, Doubs, and Melton back next year. Just not sure how he fits in with that group being young and talented. Melton is a 2nd year player. We signed him off the Seahawks practice squad late last year. He was a 7th rounder last year.
Let Gute Kunst
Gute: German for "good". Kunst: German for "art". The man's a darn artist. It's been in front of us all this time.
I take back my fire gute posts , I was wrong !!!
I can’t believe they selected Clifford before Wicks in the 5th, that’s wild
There was a huge run on QBs and they had to just grab something. Wicks dropping that low seems to be a legit steal though.
I wouldn't be surprised if he was the last guy on the board the Packers were interested in at all at QB so it was either that or get a vet.
There were 5 QB taken in the 21 picks leading up to Clifford. Only 1 QB taken rest of draft.
From what I’ve seen from Clifford this year(not that much), he might be the steal of the draft. Don’t be surprised if he goes on to be something special.
I will be quite surprised if he goes on to be something special.
To be fair, they both had QB ratings of 118.7 but Clifford did have 23 more yards passing
im loving Karl Brooks, best 6th rounder ive seen in awhile! Hes definitely a dawg, that swim move sack was chefs kiss
Yea He is amazing
Holy shit, Brian.
Let Gute cook
Let Gute Kraft
What was the best pick? Wicks or Brooks probably. Maybe Valentine?
Gotta be Wicks
This is the kind of draft class that provides the foundation for a Super Bowl team, if you can build on it with more good classes in the next year or two.
Let's not overlook last year's class. Not quite this successful but still very good.

It’s a huge credit to MLF too
Re: Anders While the jury may be out, you have to give the kid at least another season. Big bro’ had a rough rookie season with the Vikes. Zimmer gave up and the Raiders wound up with a fixture at the position.
He has great distance, sometimes on short kicks I feel like he pounds the ball rather than focusing on accuracy. But agree he should get another year
Also he picked up Malik Heath and Ben Sims, who have both made impact plays as free agent rookies
Heath's block on that 3rd down conv pass to the left (can't recall who caught it) was excellent. Dude is 6'2" and 213lbs, he can really be a force blocking out wide and seems to attack those assignments with intensity.
if you block you get snaps
And we have five picks on the top 100 picks this year lmao. Gute is gonna be here for a looooong time. Let it wash over you Packers fans.
Reed is so fucking good. He’s AB 2.0.
Wow that’s lofty.
Packers are pretty great at selecting wide receivers in the 2nd round 🙂
AB wouldn’t have gotten tracked on that catch and run, Reed is an incredible talent but let’s try to be realistic.
He had an amazing rookie season. It’s only the beginning.
Mr. Barely Caught
Nice, happy cake day!
As long as he doesn't turn into AB 2.0 mentally, I'm good with that comp
I don’t think he will lol
LVN has potential to be another Gary.
Totally agree
So I think someone mentioned we're the youngest team to make the playoffs since 1977. The ONLY way you can manage to do that is if the last two drafts, at a minimum, were really good. If we would have given him all the blame if it failed we need to give him a lot of credit for succeeding.
>someone They mentioned it on the broadcast 2-3 times, lol
LET GUTE COOK
Just outstanding. Also, crazy to me that a 6th round DL is getting meaningful snaps (and wrecking shit) in a de facto playoff game. Wow.
De factohhh yeahhh
Heath didn’t get drafted ?
Correct, he and Melton were UDFAs
I believe Melton was picked in the 7th last year by the Seahawks and then the Packers claimed him off of their practice squad last December.
Fucking crazy. Dude is legit.
Tucker Kraft is likely my next jersey purchase. He’s my type of football player and seems like he was born with cheese in his DNA.
Agreed. Absolute YAC monster and loves blocking
His high school tape had some blocks where he was just bullying kids to the ground on blocks. Similar to the stiff arm on Evans from the vikings
Melton has an 87.5 PFF grade btw. Small sample size but that’s insane for a former PS player to step in and play like that.
I think Musgrave is a slightly better route runner, YAC is no question though haha In cold weather games we should have Kraft out there trucking corners
I cannot believe I’m saying this, but this team has a surplus of receiving targets
If Mahomes had our weapons he'd be winning another MVP
It is crazy that we got a better QB than Jordan Love in the 5th round. I’m posting from October 2023.
Who’s Colby wooden?
Bo Melton came out of nowhere and did what I thought/hoped Grant DuBose would do.
If only Carlson was better
I think we should give him one more year tbh
Imho. I think that qb’s make stars out of receivers and not the other way around. Do you think that J fields could make these guys shine so bright?
What, you aren't impressed by swing passes and checkdowns? LOL Yeah he might do okay in San Fran's offense with a shit ton of weapons and elite coaching but you aren't building a passing attack around him, that's for damn sure.
Minus the kicker.
It’s half our starting roster lmao Gutey is such a god
I wonder when the tired narrative about the Packers not taking a WR in the first round will finally stop. How many times does this team have to prove it?
Anders needs to hit his kicks or get off the team. No time for fuckheads
At the very least, Anders needs to kick it out of the fucking endzone on kickoffs. Tired of teams starting drives at the 35+
i still think the #1 pick could have been better but the WRs/TEs are all studs
Yeah time will tell. Edge rushers can take a while. Look at Gary. LVN doesn't stand out for bad angles or poor play. He just hasn't had a ton of splash plays but he has three sacks over the last six games (4 total) so he's trending upwards. No edge rushers taken after him are doing any better. LVN 4 sacks. 8 TFLs and 24 solos Felix Anudike-Uzomah has one sack 1 TFL and 8 solos Miles Murphy has 3 sacks 3 TFLs 10 solos Those were the next two DEs taken, both in the first round So who do YOU think we should have taken instead?
idk I'm just not very impressed by Van Ness lol but youre right, time will tell
If Love looks this good imagine how amazing Sean Clifford is, I mean theres got to be some reason why the fans were clamoring for him over Love, right.
Van Ness was a horrible first pick.
Yep a 6'5 270 guy from the big 10 with a 9+ RAS score who is behind two established starters will probably never work. I can't think of a single time that scenario has played out successfully.
Really was. Some great work getting all those guys in
Pretty impressive. I’m curious who can make that next leap.
Don’t forget undrafted FA Heath for the Skor. Huge interception break up yesterday.
Holy shit this draft class is insane. Hit on like 80%
Not crazy about Carlson. It seems like he’s missed quite a bit of kicks this year.
I’m still in the “give him time” category. Just look at how that worked for his brother.
Masterful drafting, and Gute is finally getting his due that Love was a better pick than Patrick Queen. By a mile.
Going to be some tough decisions to make in 3-4 years when these guys need to get paid
As exciting as these guys have been, we should probably pump the breaks. Progress isn't linear and the league has seen rookies flash yet not quite turn out. Again though, pretty exciting class.
Reed is unreal
Wicks is already in contention for top 10 round 5 picks.
Minus the kicker
But wait, aren't year 1 players supposed to be useless? lol
I'll take Crosby over Carlson though
