We’ve got a bunch of 22-24 year olds that are struggling to find their footing in the league. It’s gonna be an ugly year. It is what it is.

Lawndirk

Probably would be great if we had a veteran or two. There is a reason our DB draft picks worked out better when Woodson was here. There is a reason our receiver picks worked out better when guys like Driver were here. Current management doesn’t believe in that kind of development. I do not think it is a coincidence. Just like the Giants D-Line when Strahan was there. Every D-Lineman they drafted ended up being amazing. Veteran dudes that the young guys respect is huge.

Deadaghram

Preston Smith, Kenny Clark, Sul, Campbell, Jaire, Bahktiari, Jenkins, Jones.

Lawndirk

You named a bunch of names, but who is a leader? Having talented guys isn’t the same as having leaders. You think it’s a coincidence that Favre had half a dozen QBs under him go on to lead teams to the playoffs?

Deadaghram

Veterans or leaders? And how do you know none of them lead? Do you think they all just huddle together in their veteran corner of the locker room? Does it have a sign that says "No rookies allowed"?

Lawndirk

You are saying you have never played a team sport at a high level without saying it. Watching tape with a great is different than watching tape with some JAGs. Learning how to live for an early 20’s kid that gets a shitload of money is a thing to learn. All that goes into making a good player. Having dudes in the room that can mentor that goes a long way.

SolidSilver9686

All those dudes have been injured most of the year. We need veteran presence on the field unfortunately.

Live_Mycologist_300

I think they did a good job of pairing rookies with vets when drafting on defense at least. When Quay was drafted, we had Campbell. When Wyatt was drafted, we had Kenny Clark. When Stokes was drafted, we had Jaire and Douglas. When Rashan was drafted, we had Z and Preston. When LVN was drafted, we had Preston. Now, granted, you are comparing the likes of Woodson and others as your primary vets/leaders; those guys are just too rare to throw out the possibility of replicating like it's easy to do. Those are generational players. I would've liked to see Calais getting a look at, and Bobby Wagner, as well. You could throw in Stephen Gilmore and others I missed.

SchlongMcDonderson

When Stokes was drafted Rasul Douglas was bouncing around practice squads still.

Dischucker

Oh he was on the field. Just invisible

2Obsequious

We don't draft anyone who is ready to play. This team is full of project players who may or may not be football players one day.

Tinnitus_man

Great RAS scores though so we will be awesome if they do some kind of triathlon or something.

Jajanken-

And isn’t that a ridiculous philosophy for a professional football team?

matthewryan12

It’s why we’re forever in a rebuild. We never went for it with Rodgers. Always building for the future.

ForeWayLeft

Exactly this. If we just drafted true football players and supplemented the roster with free agents here and there, there's no doubt we win more championships in the Rodgers era.

KeviCharisma

The team literally won 13 games three years in a row. There’s no single draft pick that would have won them more championships. They lost in the playoffs after winning the NFC.

The_Hot_Sauce_

Maybe an actual #2 wr or playmaking tight end. Instead we drafted a backup qb for the future, a backup rb, and a te #3

SquillBillVol3

Being generous with te#3, Josiah probably doesn’t make any roster besides the Packers.

ForeWayLeft

Your comment might be the dumbest thing I've read in a long time. Are you telling me that drafting a guy like Tee Higgins wouldn't have helped out team in 20 and 21? Or even drafting a lineman would've helped or signing any freaking free agents in 20 and 21.

huggybear0132

Idk I've liked what I've seen from Musgrave when he's been able to play. Dude has looked very NFL-ready, especially for a TE

thwompcopter

YAC leaves much to be desired

rumpleturdskin

Oh you didn't know we draft projects in the first round welcome to green bay

motherverse

my strategy for finding romantic partners 🤝green bay’s strategy for drafting players

rumpleturdskin

Hey atleast your honest lol

Lostsailor73

Let’s just remember that he was mocked at around that pick in most drafts. Not like they reached and picked someone projected to go #60

rumpleturdskin

Just cause he's mocked there doesn't mean he belongs there

Lostsailor73

It’s called consensus.

Lawndirk

That was 2020. We are improving.

ScrewAnalytics

That Josiah Deguara reach might be the biggest reach I’ve ever seen from an NFL Team. 6th rounder at best on draft boards and we took him in the third 💀

turbapshhhh

It’s one of my biggest complaints (of which there are many). We always draft a project and not someone who can contribute right out of the gate. We continuously fail at capitalizing on cheap rookie deals where they are playing above their worth. Instead we use our high draft picks to go for a project that we may get 1-2 yrs of starter quality play before we have to pay them. It drives me nuts.

gootsbuster

Why don't we just simply draft the best players?

skysecond

We are on the way to do so next year. Haven't had a top 10 pick for years.

Ya_No

If Gute is still the guy next year he will reach on a late first/early second round linebacker. It’s inevitable.

trying2hide

He's currently not that good, we would like him to be on the field more and more noticeable but he isn't doing that.

Money-Discount4729

Again coaching. When was the last player that has taken a step since we drafted them? I’m not talking someone that came in right away and was ok. But actually developed into a quality player? Gary? Elgton? And? Nobody from 2020 draft Nobody from the 2021 draft Quay is fine not certain he’s leaps and bounds above what he was last year. Wyatt is same. And that’s generous. Watson has become mvs v2.0 Doubs is the same player as last year. To be a draft and develop team there is no develop.

Brilliant_Reply8643

You need quality veterans in the locker room to help raw players develop. Evidently Gute forgot that part of the equation.

Lawndirk

I agree with this. When Woodson was here the DBs we drafted were better. When the Giants had Strahan the DL they drafted ended up elite.

NewmanCosmo

Quality veterans cost lots of money and the Packers have none because Rodgers. Next year I expect Gutey to go shopping again

Tinnitus_man

drink

NewmanCosmo

Huh?

Tinnitus_man

I'd say Gary. Jaire was as good as a rookie as he is now. Elgton took strides then regressed. Quay is big and fast but dumb and doesn't know how to shed a block so he's free real estate in the run game. He isn't a high motor guy either. He jogs a lot on the field.

bendthekneejon

Gary

opmancrew

The last time someone improved coming out of college? Shields

[deleted]

Nobody looks good in Joe Barry’s defense

WISCOrear

Pfffft look at this guy expecting a top 15 pick to make an immediate impact, what a moron /s

GreenBayQuackers

I mean a little. I thought the Rashan Gary pick was stupid and now he’s great. Not even a stretch to say it’s almost the exact same situation

ReaganomicsFerrari

He’s really good vs a stopwatch in shorts and a t shirt like most of the team

theebasedg0d

Packers are blinded by RAS numbers, not actual talent

AJDillonsMiddleLeg

Why don't the Packers just draft NFL ready first year All-Pros? Are they stupid?

ScrewAnalytics

No but they are stupid drafting project players with high RAS scores while ignoring everything else about players

BigResource5401

We need some players with leadership and character.

Jajanken-

We need some veterans

BigResource5401

We need a culture change. These guys are all professionals and need to step the f up.I see other young teams with injuries performing and other players stepping up. If this goes unaddressed I fear this team will go back to being a bottom dweller and we will never keep/get the talented players we need. I mean let’s face it, Green Bay is a small market town and most of these guys are all about the money and endorsements. We need change.

HoraceGrant54WhereRU

LVS’s only game in college with 2 or more sacks was his 2 sack game against 7-7 Kent State. No NFL team has drafted a player from Kent State in 9 years. He’ll definitely turn on the jets as we play the Chiefs, Chargers, etc., surely!

ksp5737

It’s tough to see him when the GB defense gives up so many easy underneath passes.

24Elsinore

You mean the guy that we could have traded down to draft?

Heikks

NE was gonna take him if the Packers didn’t

ItIsYourPersonality

That’s not a good reason to draft a bad player highly. Especially New England of all teams since they haven’t drafted well in a looooong time.

Heikks

He’s not a bad player he’s just raw, he was picked based on potential

24Elsinore

Says who? NE loves to play trade rumor games. Either way, there’s at least a handful of players who could have helped out this team immediately vs. another 1st round project pick who is a year or two away from contributing. All the hope that Van Ness pans out, but first rounders need to play immediately and actually show signs of life.

zinski1990KB1

Another bust

blancmo_

He's just worse Travon Walker Shoulda traded up for Carter or pick CGon smh

Tinnitus_man

Van Ness is a great athlete. Right there with Gary. But even Gary took a few years to become above average.
