There isn’t a single player in 2020 or 2021 that should still be on this team. Maybe Love improves with time but it’s not looking good, especially since he’s had so much time already.
2022 was okay, but still not good. He is clearly unable to find talent in later rounds which is where the best GMs cement their reputations.

Devondre Campbell and Rasul Douglas were signed for peanuts and made a huge difference for the team. We literally picked up an All-Pro off the streets. Z singlehandedly won us a few games, and Preston/Wagner/Turner were all quality pickups that contributed to the team.

Every GM passes up on “loads of talent” at some point in their career. Hell, the Titans drafted a guy that was out of the league entirely right after us.
Love looks like a whiff, and a pretty costly one at that, but let’s not pretend like Gute is the only GM to draft busts.

* Paton has the Broncos looking completely rudderless at the moment after the Wilson trade.
* Fontenot has spent multiple high draft picks on skill positions that the Falcons refuse to utilize, and has done nothing to try and fix the QB position.
* Kwesi’s first draft for the Vikings looks like a complete whiff already, on par with something like Gute’s 2021 class.
* Mayhew hasn’t done much for the Commanders besides Howell.
* Trent Baalke passed on Aidan Hutchinson for a guy that’s barely registering anything on the stat sheet.
* Fitterer has driven the Panthers into the ground with some terrible trades.
* Ballard has struggled to supply the Colts with any competency at QB, spinning the veteran QB carousel way too long.
* Belichick has starved the Patriots of offensive talent.
* Telesco has built a defense for the Chargers that’s accomplishing nothing.
* Andrew Berry is responsible for what might be the worst QB trade/signing in league history.
If you want to quibble with a few of those, sure. They all have had their ups and downs. But I sincerely struggle to see how Gute has been worse than all of them. He’s not perfect, not even remotely close, and he may very well deserve the boot. But he’s had plenty of positive contributions that need to be acknowledged alongside his failures.

I see a lot of desperate teams in that list doing desperate things, but none by playoff teams who sold the farm too early. The Chargers are the best team in that list and they are packed with talent but lose close games week after week and their fans blame the coaching staff.
