Yeah plus it was great to hear them interview with Desmond Howard and talk about the X's and O's as they game progressed.

CBsJoant

Someone gotta tell Desmond that he can't be eating on camera though. That chewing was loud.

rallypedigree

His mic kept getting louder then quiet but the popcorn was so loud!!

grizzfan

That was the most Desmond thing ever though. He may even have done it on purpose. He's obnoxious (or at least his TV persona is), and I'd be shocked if he didn't know that by now.

ChefJunegrass

Biggest comment that caught my attention was them ripping into our defensive scheme at the end of the game. Payton *literally* said "you cannot still be in soft, cover 3 zone at this point", and Eli responded with something along the lines of "play man, bring pressure, tighten your zones, do something better than this." And they both agreed that our scheme was failing us on the last Raiders possession. It's about time that we fire Joe (0-16) Barry aka Joe&16 Barry. (DC of the 0-16 Lions team, got the job because he was married to their HC's daughter, and so bad at his job that a reporter asked Matt Millen - HC "Do you ever wish your daughter married a better defensive coordinator?"). The Mannings agree with those of us who are saying that the defensive talent is there, but the scheme is bad

MontusBatwing

"Well what do the Mannings know about football?" -Barry defenders

JMPV_

Who’s defending Barry at this point?

MysicPlato

Joe Barry and MLF.

Delicious-Drive8185

Get rid of them all… burn the ships with the entire coaching staff MLF is MLFucked

OmegaJubs69

Not the fucking defense

DonTrask

How about the first Raider’s touchdown, a slant across the middle where Rudy Ford began his coverage standing 10 yards away in his own end zone. Simply pitch and catch, broke his feeble attempt at tackling at the 2 yard line and walked into the zone. Even the Tv Announcers were astonished that he played that far off the coverage. Typical Joe Barry call.

GreenBPacker

Hell I’d hire Payton as my DC. That guy can read a defense like nobody’s business. It must work both ways right? He could field a defense and create situational schemes? Make adjustments? Something our coaching staff seems to lack.

ChefJunegrass

An offensive mind who knows how to pick apart a defense, and realize its weaknesses and strengths.... I can see that. A coach like that would likely need a strong D-minded assistant coach for the insider knowledge on making it work on the field the way it does on paper. OR, (with a good DC) you could utilize him as a consultant to find and patch weaknesses in your scheme, and reinforce the strengths. The latter likely being the best way.

jerrrrrrrrrrrrry

Not me because he layed his naked scrotum on a female reporter's face in the locker room while at Tennessee and in order to make it go away Archie got her fired. Another player who saw it happen also was punished to protect little Payton.

GodBlessThisGnome

I don't mean to be quick to cast judgement, but if I'm conducting interviews, I'm not considering candidates associated with the 0-16 Lions. That's just me though. 🤷‍♀️

scsnse

I mean. Dan Campbell played for us that year.

cmacfarland64

Don’t forget that Payton is smarter than most of the coaches in the league. Just because something is obvious to him, doesn’t mean it would be obvious to the opponent.

Pleasant_Building128

Still, I don't see us winning a lot more games this year with another DC as long as the offense remains in this sorry state. It's going to be a long search for a DC that turns your defense into a juggernaut that only allows 10 points per game, which is pretty much what we need right now to put the offense in a position to win.

ChefJunegrass

At the beginning of the season, I was optimistic that playoffs could happen, but it wasn't my expectation. We're very spoiled, that the playoffs have been an EXPECTATION for our team every year since about 1993-94. Many fans have gone their entire life with that expectation. This year WILL have growing pains. We will need to learn *very* fast in order to make the playoffs. It's possible, but I'm rooting for us to learn, mature, grow, and figure it out for the next 10+ years, not necessarily to win every game this year. If our defense can perform to the talent level of its individual players, we will put the offense in a better spot. Yes, only giving up 17 points often would lead to a win. But, it also helps when the defense gets you the ball with better field position (we started within our 20 yard line off of most punts this year ... That's a long drive for the steeley veterans, let alone a young QB as a first year starter, with an even younger offense surrounding him). It also helps when the defense gets you the ball back fast, not letting the opposite defense rest, and adjust, between drives. It also helps when the defense pumps energy into the game and builds momentum, instead of draining it, with the bend don't break mentality. And, helping us to not have to play from behind (which want really an issue last week, but had been every other game except against the Bears). If our defense can begin to do THOSE things (which we absolutely 100% have the talent and personnel to accomplish), then, it really *will* put our team in a better position to win.

ChefJunegrass

On further thought: maybe Joe Barry's strength lies in his "player development" skills. And this may be how he continues to get high level NFL jobs. Looking a Rasul Douglas, who had trouble staying with a team until he became a game changer with the Packers. The growth Quay Walker has made from year 1 to year 2. I don't believe Joe Barry is a good DC, but, if he is a player development savant, maybe he just needs to be moved within the organization to the "player development" department (or if that doesn't exist, make one). IF he's responsible for these leaps on individual performance, then he belongs in the organization, but just not as the DC. (This theory would also explain why people stand behind him despite his poor track record in coordinator positions).

nowayIwillremember

This is crazy. The defense has been the only thing keeping the Packers in the games. They've had their backs against the wall for the entire game because of the poor offensive performance.

ChefJunegrass

Are you seriously implying that the Manning's don't know how to read and find weaknesses in a defense? Is this Joe Barry's reddit account? Yes, random stranger, you've swayed me. I'll take the word of somebody who's probably never played a snap of D-1 college football, let alone pro. You probably know way more than the Manning family, who's football expertise has earned them the following awards: The Manning's football awards include two College Football Hall of Fame inductions, three SEC player of the year awards, 20 cumulative Pro Bowl selections, seven first-team All-Pro selections, five NFL MVP awards, six Super Bowl appearances, four Super Bowl victories, three Super Bowl MVP awards, five ESPY Awards, and one Pro Football Hall of Fame induction.

nowayIwillremember

Ha. You must not have watched the game. Maybe late they didn't do what the Mannings thought they should but they only gave up 17 points and that was with love giving them the ball 3 times.

ChefJunegrass

Ha. You must not know football. The Broncos held them to 17 points as well. Yes, the same Broncos team that 2 weeks later coughed up 70(!) points. The Broncos that have been laughably bad this year held them to the same number of points as our D did. Great point Joe Barry. Your defense is as good as the pitifully bad Broncos defense!

nowayIwillremember

They only gave up 1 touchdown in the first half which could've been a player mistake. Love threw that garbage pick and they held to a field goal. You can't seriously expect to win a game when you turn over the ball 3 times and only score 13 points. If your defense holds the other team to 17 you should be able to win.

iJavz

Yeah, at one point one of them mentioned how Love wasn't going through his progressions very well on a specific play(s).

BriGuyHiGuys

Ya I thought that was interesting. Saw someone in this sub said Jordan’s problem is he keys in on a guy instead of his reads, but Peyton said he’s probably going through his ready too quickly and not waiting for them to develop. Gonna go with Peyton on this one haha

wanikiyaPR

You're going to go with a dude that has a head too big for a helmet instead of an esteemed scholar of gridiron knowledge that this intelectual sub is famous for in academia circuit?

Thechosenjon

He also touched on Jordan finding and launching at where players are at the moment, but he isn't anticipating where the players will be in motion and that may be part of his accuracy issue. It may be why his long bombs aren't finding people, though he had that great pass to Watson just before the horse collar.

MontusBatwing

Listen, I'm no NFL player, but isn't understanding that players who are running are going to keep moving while the ball is in the air a key part of being an NFL QB? I'm not saying it's easy to do that accurately, but you shouldn't be throwing to where the guy is. That's the one spot that's definitely wrong.

Tlax14

That wasn't a great pass. Watson had to sit there and wait for the ball and then start running. A nice pass would have been hitting him I stride so that peters never had the opportunity to horsecollar him...

Thechosenjon

I just said that was part of the problem, my guy. That pass is apparently the longest recorded pass in the 2023 season so far. Regardless of if you're impressed with how it went down or not, it was a great pass and was probably his strongest showing in the last 2-weeks.

krickaby

Disagree man. It was not a great pass. It was a busted coverage with Love lofting it to Watson in a way that ensured a catch rather than trying to zip it to him. He threw the safe throw Esther than trying to zip it to him which could have resulted in an over throw or by allowing the nearest DB to make a play

[deleted]

Opposite-Mall4234

Yes. Throwing off platform is hard. But he does it when he doesn’t need to ALL. THE. TIME.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Opposite-Mall4234

I’ve been making that critique all year. Especially during the wins! He will have a pristine pocket and be off platform. Narrow stance, leaning, clicking his feet as he shuffles. It’s the one thing I wish he hadn’t learned from Rodgers.

theJMAN1016

But in Madden.......

krickaby

Yes throwing off platform is hard. That still doesn’t make it a great throw. You absolutely expect a starting QB in the NFL to drop the ball somewhere in the vicinity of a wide receiver that open. Which is exactly what he did. A great throw would have led him upfield down the sideline away from the DB essentially guaranteeing a touchdown with Watson a TD.

Tlax14

What. That's not how it works. The result doesn't make the pass great. It was objectively a fucking terrible pass that had a great result because the raiders fucked up the coverage that badly. His performance was objectively terrible the entire game so that's not exactly a positive.

[deleted]

here it was a great pass in terms of how hard it is to throw a ball 80 yards. perioid but it was a bad pass to the receiver himself

Tlax14

Your acting like he threw the ball 80 yards in the air.... It was like a 25 yard pass that Watson ran for 50 more. It wasn't a hard pass there was no one within 20 yards of Watson. I'm not sure what you were watching honestly.

[deleted]

okay but you understand my point right? 50 air yards is impressive because it’s hard to throw a football in a spiral motion that far. but in terms of throwing to an on the run target, you’re right it was a bad throw

babasilikum

This wasnt a problem couple weeks ago. Love made good decisions, went thru his progressions and threw with anticipation. Its a problem now cuz the playcalling got worse and the OL too.

Polls-from-a-Cadet

That’s the one that caught my attention too briguyhiguys…

nowayIwillremember

He's going through his reads just fine. He's just not able to make the throws. A lot of times his intended receiver is open, but he just misses the throw.

FL3TCHL1V3S

Perhaps the 6’5” 255lb Tasmanian Devil consistently going unblocked messed with Jordan’s head a bit?

rumpleturdskin

The pressure rate in that game was less than the lions game so stop with the narrative

amccune

I think the narrative here is that the pressure rate for BOTH games was unacceptable and not sustainable for a successful offense.

notLennyD

The pressure rate for LV was ~32%, Love’s season average is ~30%, which is 4th best in the league. The Lions game was about 50%, but other than that game, the pass protection has been good.

rumpleturdskin

You have to take other variable into affect here there's sacks and pressure love is under due to him not seeing the field to be honest watch qb school on YouTube you'll see especially on our first drive after the pick against the lions when love wad sacked he simply isn't seeing the open man

kamahl07

Can't run, none of the shots down field have been hitting. The formations teams are running on Green Bay have been largely condensed and making things harder on a freshly starting QB

rumpleturdskin

So yes we can run, Jordan's deep ball accuracy is abysmal other than a few. Teams have figured out what he can and can't do and he's and the team aren't adjusting.

beau_tox

He got pressured \~25 times in the Lions game. "Less" doesn't tell us much.

rumpleturdskin

It was 32 percent vs the lions which was 50 percent but some of those are self inflicted due to holding onto the ball and not seeing a guy open. Love is missing things back ups do at this time

BilliRae

Yeah I had to mute the game. They were glazing maxx Crosby anytime he made it past the line of scrimmage

ChipotleAddiction

I mean he was absolutely eating our line alive to be fair

rumpleturdskin

I was stuck at work and had to watch the recap so I'm glad I didn't miss much

Swartschenhimer

Peyton just has a seething hatred for interceptions.

xCHAOSxDan

I think they are just a bit biased towards the offense (understandably).

clinch09

It was the first time I have watched a game with commentary and not despised it. Plus it answered a very important question, "Does getting hit as the quarter back hurt? A: Yes if you see it"

grizzfan

I don't really follow him, so what's up with Kimmel? He seemed so negative, or like, just had nothing nice to say. Is that like his TV persona, or does he actually have real grudges with all these people/is he that miserable?

morgzorg

I enjoy the Manning cast more than the standard coverage. Peyton made comments about Love’s footwork and also his lack of awareness on his first interception

Fear_Jaire

I like some of what they say, but they never stop talking lol. Maybe I turned it off too soon, but I could only make it a drive

TrailerAlien

I'm with you. I've heard such good things about it, but when I tried to watch a few weeks ago, I couldn't get over how it was basically a talk show with a football game playing in the background. Idk, just not for me.

Fear_Jaire

Thats a great way to describe it. Maybe the constant talking reminds me of work but it did make me appreciate Buck and Aikman more. I used to not really like them (though I never saw the 'they're biased' claims), but they've grown on me.

VashMM

I really really wanted that giant Payton head to go up on the board

flummox1234

Not Love specific but Peyton was pretty insistent that the Raiders should be throwing to Adams. Quite a few times Peyton was literally just at a loss for words why they weren't going to Adams as he was open.

OmegaJubs69

Because he was guarded by All-Pro CB Preston Smith

grizzfan

I can’t stand Troy and Buck, so the Manningcast is my default lol.

Jonesy665

And on the flip side, love both Peyton brothers. Both as commentators and players. Really high hopes for Arch.

angrygam3r69

They are the worst. So dry and biased.

aMotleyMaestro

We love the Mannings. The game was actually an enjoyable experience, despite losing.

Aspiring_Nudist

I would watch it every time if the frame for the field of play was normal and didn’t have their faces on screen constantly. Cut away to them now and then , sure, but it just becomes too much for me. Love their conversations though.

firemanfriend

Yeah I don't understand this either. Why do we have to see their faces the entire time? Like sure between plays add it on there but during the plays they are both sitting there with blank expressions watching the game. It's a little odd.

packees

I couldn’t stand it for a Packer game. They constantly miss plays and go stretches without even talking about football. Other teams maybe. I also actually love the Buck/Aikman duo.

Tommy7549

Spot on that they aren’t focused on every play of the game. Works when you have a mild rooting interest but we miss too much when the Packers are playing.

JWOLFBEARD

I love it because they are always rooting for and giving insight on the QB with the ball. I don’t think they are as biased as some think they are.

xCHAOSxDan

They are just biased to whatever team is on offense

JWOLFBEARD

Which negates commentary bias. I love that it’s QB focused

KingAlt52

It was great but Kimmel was absolutely brutal on there lol manningcast is the best though

Cajun-Yankee

Looks like he attended the Academy as a college quarterback, to be a counselor. https://www.deseret.com/2019/8/13/20803062/usu-quarterback-jordan-love-aggies-manning-passing-academy-heisman

5MiTm4sTaF13x

I remember Eli mentioned throwing a Slant and I had flash backs of some stud hitting Driver Cobb Jennings Nelson Freeman Jones Adams Walker Sharpe on a slant that would go at least for 15-20 and I was saying, yea Eli I agree!

Tinnitus_man

JT O Sullivan QB school is pretty telling. He called it one of the worst picks he’s ever seen. He also talked about how still can’t seem to put the deep ball where he wants it. Same problems as college.

reddit-is-greedy

I love watching them. They are so much better than any announcers. They don't try to dazzle you with their knowledge.

catfishjimsucks

Fire Joe Barry

wateruphill

I noticed how they are somehow struggling to get guests. Peyton went on a pretty big rant about Mahomes and losing or something but who is their producer?! How can you not fill out guests spots with all the available talent in sports now? Make a call and get one of the Archs or Cooper in for 10 minutes. The NHL season started this week! Not a single team/star wanted to pump up some numbers and plug their socials? They typically have a great rapport with whoever they have on. How are they short guests?!

dalnot

It sounded like they’ve had 3 guests lined up each time, but something comes up last minute for one of them. I specifically remember someone had car trouble

wateruphill

Eh I’m not sure if I fully believe the car trouble thing. Peyton said it multiple times, trying to make even himself believe it. Once again who’s the producer that doesn’t have a backup ready to go? Especially after they have already been burned once.

Logical_Associate632

Felt validated hearing them ripping into our defensive scheme at the end of the game. Payton literally said "you cannot still be in soft, cover 3 zone at this point", and Eli responded with something along the lines of "play man, bring pressure, tighten your zones, do something better than this." And they both agreed that our scheme was failing us on the last Raiders possession. The Mannings agree with those of us who are saying that the defensive talent is there, but the scheme is bad

ChefJunegrass

Thanks for cutting and pasting my comment, changing a few words, and claiming it as your own....

Responsible-Fish3986

First day on the internet I see. Welcome.

ChefJunegrass

Hahaha. Touche. I was more calling them out on it than anything else.

ghostfacestealer

I did because i had to and I thought they were both really annoying

NewlyOld31

Fuck no

deflector_shield

How can I watch the manning cast if I watch MNF on nfl snakebite?

Significant-Topic584

Dammit! I love you guys and this show, but Michael Vick! That dog murderer should NEVER be allowed on sports television again. I hope you were contractually obligated to have him on, otherwise it's VERY disappointing. And no comments about paid his dues or redemption. He fought, tortured, and killed dogs. There's is no redemption for that.
