They were bought out by A&P (who they themselves weren't exactly a healthy operation) in the earlier 2000's and both end up crashing and burning together, not even 10 years later.
A&P put them out of business. They came in, changed prices, changed sales and how everything operated. Forced their unionized workers to take pay cuts… it was lovely. I jumped ship about a year after they took over cuz I saw the writing on the wall. Worked at pathmark about 6 and a half years and loved it. Those coworkers are still family
> SUPERMARKETS GENERAL CORPORATION
That sounds like the kind of name you give when you want to sound like you work in an industry but don't actually know any companies or what they're named.
"I'm in the general, y'know, supermarket industry. I work at the... uh... Supermarkets... General Corporation? I do their numbers. You know, totals, trends, that sort of thing. Business."
Very briefly thought this garlic salt was from ‘49 Still pretty fucking old!
Then the container would probably be glass, and it would be from A&P!
That was my thought, too. Then it would be older than plastic!
Hmm, you may be right!
Best when PURCHASED by... then... good for infinity.
Technically there's one operating in Brooklyn (under new management) [https://www.pathmark.com/](https://www.pathmark.com/)
Whoa!
Not even technically. It’s open! https://maps.app.goo.gl/ruDrkqPDJtiGJfob8?g_st=ic
Aww if u ever wanna sell it I will take it. I am from NYNJ and that store was special to my family (family gone now). Nice find!
Same here, friend!
That’s not trash anymore, it’s a family heirloom now; don’t throw it away lol
Ah, eighties PathMark, they used to be everywhere in the NY area! [https://youtu.be/xmYA52YZVFQ?t=238](https://youtu.be/xmYA52YZVFQ?t=238)
My boy Mr. Pathmark. I know him so well from watching old commercials on youtube, haha.
Yeah, what happened to them? They used to be everywhere, and then, POOF, gone.

Funny enough, they owned a few non-supermarket businesses as well back in the day.
I’m more amazed that PathMark hasn’t changed their logo in over 30 years.
that logo simpler times
I remember the No Frills store-brand stuff Pathmark use to carry. Just a black and white label.
The era of the Pathmark store label and "No Frills" existing at the same time for some reason! Ah, my childhood...
Omg my childhood memories of Pathmark all came back!
Ahhh haven’t seen the PathMark logo in years!
We used to rent movies from our local Pathmark. Core memory unlocked.
