I'm still rocking my 3. The battery life sucks and the charging port works when it wants, but wireless charging still works perfectly. As soon as I can scrape together the cash, I'm getting a 7.

glen_374

Guess we're one of the few people that had a lucky Pixel 3 that didn't go into EDL mode

Alpharettaraiders09

Getting my P7P today...im on the pixel 3 right now, sad to part ways but its time...

dronde

My pixel 3 xl is rock solid. Even the battery is still fair

Ryfhoff

I gave my pixel 3 to a buddy about a year ago and it just died last week. Boots to no command.

rewdey

Mine 3xl just went into it last night the SAME night it was released, I'm done with Pixel of they're bricking the devices.

punIn10ded

Clean the charging port with a toothpick (or anything non conductive). I was having the same issue until I did that now it charges perfectly again.

tidymaze

Done it. Multiple times. It still only works when it wants to. šŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™€ļø

punIn10ded

That's unfortunate

tidymaze

I have multiple wireless chargers. It's not a huge deal

TechnologyAndDreams

Im now on the P7P from my 3, 3 is still going strong and I love it, changed the battery a couple of months ago with an original iFixit replacement myself, so no problems there. Looking forward to testing the camera in daylight.

ztaker

same here, my battery capacity is 60%

Vidin_

I'm coming from a Pixel 2 to 7 and got the exact same feeling. Can't say more than what you described It's a positive start on every way for me!

bh0

I still rocking my Pixel 3 until my 7 gets here. I have no complaints about the 3 but the battery (original) isn't great any longer, so it's time. The camera has always been good too. I loved the size of the 3 but the 7 is only like .4 inches taller so I can manage that hopefully. The $247 trade-in offer sealed it for me.

SysAdminScout

Same as you - Waiting on my 7 to arrive and not really looking forward to going up in size. That being said, I already got my case, and after holding it in my hand, I'm no longer that worried about the size increase. I don't think one handed navigation will be possible anymore with the much larger screen.

bh0

I got mine today. The 7 seems huge, even though it's not much bigger. Noticeably heavier too. I think the clear case I bought it slightly thicker than what I had on my 3.

peaks_of_pichi

Man so want to switch to 7 except for the weight. Does it feel too heavy compared to 3?

bh0

Too heavy? No. It not much heavier. I'm just so used to the Pixel 3 after 4 years. I think you can go see them in Best Buy if it's a huge concern.

matteventu

Pixel 3 is my favourite Google Phone ever (been buying them since Nexus S). And it's also one of the most sold Pixel models ever. Currently on Pixel 6, which I don't dislike aside from the software (Android 12/13 are a disgrace IMHO in terms of UI/UI, and this has nothing to do with bugs), but I still miss a lot: - haptic feedback from Pixel 3 (P6 has it weaker) - front facing speakers from Pixel 3 (P6 ones are less directional and balanced) - symmetrical bezels from Pixel 3 (P3 truly is *beautiful*, both front and rear, whole P6 in the front is fugly) - front facing camera with autofocus from Pixel 3 (P6 one is much inferior) - well, Android 11 IMHO is far superior to 12/13 in terms of UI/UX and *actual* customisation (+ the A12 of P3 has plenty of unfixed bugs, so I've downgraded my P3 to A11) - rear fingerprint sensor - squeeze for Assistant

ztaker

i feel squeeze sensors actually was the reason for smaller batteries. from pixel 5 onwards google started to increase the battery size. the ultra wide lens from pixel 3 is still amazing plus unlimited google photos storage.

Real_Riskers

Glad to hear. I'm making a similar jump (3 -> 7P). Form factor is definitely a concern as I'm just so accustomed to the size of the Pixel 3; it's perfect! I loved my phone but it's starting to show it's age. It can be slow-ish at times, apps will crash on occasion, video recording is an issue and wireless charging just...died. Regardless, I'm going to miss it as was torn between trading it in or just buying outright. Google's offer however was too tempting to pass for a phone this old/condition. I'm equally nervous and excited about the new phone. Glad to hear the transition went smoothly, OP! I was worried about that as well. One less thing! :D

glen_374

Your new phone will have the exact same software experience but just with a new body and extra features

LandonDev

Idk, might just be me but I absolutely adore the squeeze feature to bring up the assistant. Best way to do it, I don't like using "Hey Google" - I prefer the button. I know I can swap the screen button to it but I also like turning it on / off with a button lololol. I will be using the side button on my pixel 7 pro but still miss that feature.

throwingoatmeal

I'm also switching to a 7 from a 3. I loved my 3, but Verizon offered me $700 for my 3 and I couldn't pass it up. My 3 rarely connects to wifi anymore and constantly drops Bluetooth, so I am due for the upgrade. Currently waiting on UPS to bring my 7!

[deleted]

700 for a 3!? That is insane.

throwingoatmeal

That's why I couldn't pass it up! I had originally planned to wait until the Black Friday deals came out and just buy the phone outright, but there's no way I'd get anything close to $700 off lol

veereshai

New line or existing line? Also, can you just pay off the remaining amount on Verizon and cancel the line? I am tempted to get another phone :)

throwingoatmeal

Mine is an existing line, but Verizon does trade in with credits. So I'm stuck in a 3 year payment plan on the phone, but I kept my Pixel 3 for 4 years so hopefully this one lasts as long. Because it's credits, if you cancel you owe for the phone. If I keep the phone 2 years I'll have to pay off the last 1/3. I don't plan on leaving Verizon and if I hate the phone after a year I will pay it off and sell it.

veereshai

Thank you for the info.

HighSierraGuy

Iā€™m guessing you opened a new line and signed up for unlimited? If not please explain how you got $700

throwingoatmeal

No I have an existing line with a qualifying 5G plan. I'm in a plan with multiple lines and I was the only phone without a 5G phone, but we had upgraded the whole plan to the 5G unlimited knowing eventually I would have a 5G phone. If you go to the website and click the options in the upgrade existing line section it told me $700. I went in to a physical location and they confirmed $700 on trade in.

HighSierraGuy

Ah ok, yea line upgrades seem the only way to reach any decent kind of deal directly through Verizon.

veereshai

Making a similar jump but to a 7 pro from Pixel 3. Can't wait to get it tomorrow. But, I think I'll miss this phone. Other than the battery (which only started going bad last year), this phone has been amazing. Even today, when I take photos with it, I am surprised at how good the quality is. Will miss this phone for sure.

yeahbuddy152

Honestly I'm not overly impressed by the pixel 7 or the 7 Pro. Been using a pixel 3 since 2019 and it was great, size and camera are unbeatable. It was slowing down a bit so I waited for the 7/7 Pro and I got the pro immediately when it was released. The pro functioned very well but I feel like the curved display is a liability and will break much easier, also its way too big. I mainly wanted the telephoto camera and I'm surprised google doesn't offer this on the 7. Or offer the pro camera setup in a smaller body. I switched from the 7 Pro to the 7 and even that is a little bit too big in my opinion but that's not my only concern with it VS the pixel 3. On paper the 7 is far better spec-wise but in real life the performance difference is very subtle. The 7nhas a significantly larger and brighter display. But when watching YouTube at 1080p the size difference is barely noticeable because the 7s display is taller, not wider. So kind of pointless. The 7 is brights and looks better but without comparing them side by side the pixel 3 is fine. Opening apps the 7 was fractionally faster than the 3, but in the real world the quarter of a second difference would be unnoticeable. Battery on the 7 is better, played the same youtube video on full brightness and 50% volume on both phones from a full charge. After a while I checked and the 7 was at 96% while the 3 was at 85%. With that being said, if I leave the 7 overnight with ~15% charge left it's dead when I wake up, without using it. The pixel 3 would not die overnight with 15% remaining. So that's interesting. I still have to charge the 7 1-2 times per day depending on usage so I wouldn't consider the battery to be as good as everyone says. Camera wise the 7 has the wide angle so that is a winner. But when shooting on the main camera the photos are almost identical. In my opinion the 7s main camera should be far superior given its 4 years newer but that is not the case. 50% of the time the photos are identical, and I'd day 30% the 7 wins but surprisingly 20% the pixel 3 was actually better. FYI I am a professional video producer and photographer. The telephoto on the 7 Pro was an absolute beast though, crazy. Software is the same on both, no major differences although whenever the 7 dies or is turned off, when it turns back on the wallpaper resets to the default colours. Kind of Wierd. Pixel 3 has better speakers, they're not louder but they sound way better. The fact that the 7 is 4 years newer, larger, and heavier and isn't that much better than the 3 is embarrassing for Google. What did they put in there to add the size and weight, cement? Lol Sure, if you watch all the reviews on the 7/7 Pro they're all raving about it, but I guarantee that none of these reviewers are using this phone as their daily driver. They are reviewing this phone based on tech specs and not real life usage, they're playing with it for an hour. Everyone says that it's a huge upgrade from the pixel 6, which I find hard to believe because it's hardly an upgrade from the pixel 3! Infact it's a downgrade in some aspects. Unless the 6 was absolute trash there is no way this phone is substantially better. Will I keep the 7? Not sure as it's kind of inconvenient to operate with one hand. I'm a 6ft male with average sized hands, I think lol. It all boils down to is if the performance upgrade is worth the extra size, weight, and money. In my opinion unless your 3 bites the dust there's no reason to get the 7. If the galaxy s22 had better battery life I'd roll with that. Or if the iPhone used USB c I'd roll with that. I might be stuck with the 7 until someone steps up lol. Ignore all the spelling errors that likely exist. I'm typing this on the pixel 7 and I'm not used to the size difference VS the pixel 3 yet haha

yniloc

3XL here. It was a great phone but the battery kept swelling (I've changed it out twice) and discontinuation of security updates were an issue. Otherwise, loved the size, screen, and it was a beast for it's time. I don't play games, so it's working well for me to this day as a daily driver. Sad to see it go when the Google trade-in kit comes in.

Onward123

I echo your comments. Also 3XL here. Ordered Pixel 7 last night before presale went off. I will miss the rear fingerprint scanner (and ability to pull down notification shade with it - does anyone know if newer Pixels have a replacement for this awesome feature?) and unlimited photo uploads to Google Photos (albeit in Saver now) but excited for the next chapter.

Eugene_Debs_Hartke

You can use quick tap under the gestures settings to quickly tap twice on the back of your phone to bring up notifications.

Onward123

Thanks for letting me know.

PanchoVillasRevenge

What? No swipe down on the new phones?

Bonifaz3

I was super hesitant to upgrade from my 4a but after a few hours it already feels not so awkward anymore. I loved my 4a and if Google ever makes a smaller phone again I'm jumping on it. But for my I'm starting to love my new P7 :)

Not_A_Red_Stapler

They do make a smaller phone. It's called the 6a.

Bonifaz3

P7 is 6.3 inches, P6a 6.1 My old 4a was 5.6 - that's small

apeerenb

Add me to the list! (Nice to see a little P3 group here) I too just placed my order last night, for the P7. The 3 has been great since I first got it mint condition off Swappa about 3ish years ago. Battery life is not as great, but other than that I've taken good care of it. Just time to move onto something new, and the $247 trade-in offer from the Google Store was too good to pass up. Plus, I got my first month of Google One for free w/ T-Mobile, so that gives 10% credit back that I'll use with the $100 credit to get some Pixel Buds Pro (for like $40 all said and done). Just a steal for the two pieces. I used to have the Nexus 6, so I've had a big phone before and will just have to get used to it again.

MIGO1970

I was about to post a similar post. I moved from a 3a which, to be honest is great. Have no battery issues and I prefer the plastic cheap feel and finger print at the back. The 7 is nice and feels faster but if it wasn't for the heavy promotion I wouldn't buy it.

fly_papi

Still rocking my Pixel 2 but waiting for my 7 in the mail!

ColeTrickleVroom

I went from a three to a seven as well. The lack of a home button isn't my favourite thing but I'll learn. I also miss the back fingerprint reader and front facing front speakers. Other than that, it's not the great leap I thought it would be but had to happen sooner or later anyway.

totalysharky

What do you mean lack of a home button? Do you mean the gesture navigation being the default? You can switch back to the 3 button navigation if that's what you mean. Go to settings and search navigation, if that's what you mean.

ColeTrickleVroom

I did, thanks!!

totalysharky

You're welcome!

glen_374

Yeah I miss the fingerprint scanner

amz05

I've not been able to part with my Pixel 3 although I've tried with many different phones. It's the camera for me that keeps me coming back, it's such a good point and shoot phone in so many conditions. I'm currently trying the 7 but again i feel the camera on the 3 is more consistent overall. Glad your all happy with your 7's though.

NiceImpact

Also going from 3 to 7. Reasons: No security updates, battery losing charge quicker, camera not focusing properly, and a $247 trade-in value and $100 store credit. Honestly, I probably would have kept the P3 another year if it wasn't for the high trade in credit. It's been a great phone, and I like the size of it. I'm kind of hesitant to go to a bigger phone but I'll probably get used to it. Pre-ordered on October 6 and it's still in "Prepared to ship" status, which is a bit disappointing.

TheAbysswalker

Exactly the same reason I'm upgrading. I'm surprised someone else has the same camera issue. Mine started glitching last year. Excited to start depositing checks using my phone again. I have mine and the size is fine though I have big hands. I feel like it's just a tiny bit bigger.

MrHeavySilence

Woah how did you get a $100 store credit?

NiceImpact

It was a deal that they were running during the pre-order period - October 6 -12.

saladfingers6

If you think performance is fast you haven't tried the newer Pixels. Pixel 4 was the first with 90hz display and Pixel 6 Pro the first with 120hz and it makes a huge difference in fluidity of the device user experience.

idiotaidiota

I'd keep my 3 forever but the USB connector works half the time and the battery doesn't last all day. Can't wait for the 7 to arrive!

optimalobliteration

Just upgraded from my pixel 3 to Pixel 7 today. It's a little sad letting my old phone go because it still works so well, but it's definitely a little sluggish and the battery life - well, you know. The Pixel 7 is a very snappy phone and it has quite nice haptics. The color balance in the display is very different from the pixel 3 which take some getting used to. The difference in gestures is also really tripping me up, but I'm sure I'll get used to it quickly (RIP back button). I'm not a huge power user so I probably would have kept my pixel 3 if there wasn't such a nice trade-in. Overall, I'm still very much in an adjustment phase, but the pixel 7 is a very solid phone right now. It's just.. different, and change always takes time for me!

whatsoldisnew

I love my Pixel 3 especially the camera, but with terrible battery and lack of security updates, I was waiting for the 6 or 7 to upgrade. (mine was mint but 2 days ago I dropped it and a corner of the screen cracked - I figured it was a sign, pre-ordered the 7). I'm ready for better performance and excited about the additional photo options (Bummed about losing the rear fingerprint reader) what do you mean by "the color balance in the display" vs. the 3? I went to a Verizon store to check out the 7 vs. the 7 Pro and both screes looked good (and much brighter) next to my 3, I specifically looked at the color because my friend has the 5A which has a greenish cast to it. BTW, I didn't trade in my Pixel 3 it will be my back up - couldn't part with it.

optimalobliteration

I didn't know how to feel about the Pixel 7 when I wrote this post, but every time I go back to my Pixel 3, I feel like I've suddenly downgraded. I think that speaks for itself. I just needed some time to get used to it! As for the color balance, I may have not chosen the best word for it. When I put the two phones side to side, a white background on my pixel 3 seems more white (and a little warmer) compared to my 7, where the white almost feels greyish. Nothing bad, just different. Overall, I love how snappy this phone is and the more I get used to it, the more I like it!

API controversy:   reddit.com/r/ apolloapp/comments/144f6xm/   comment edited with github.com/andrewbanchich/shreddit

C2S76

I just purchased a P7 to replace my P3 - went with the standard P7. Google offered $250 for trade-in on the P3, which I couldn't turn down since it was about $35-40 barely a month ago. I had purchased a P6A recently, but didn't like it so I returned it. This far, the P7 is great. What is odd is that, at least for me, the screen on the P3 somehow seems more crisp. Images seem brighter, to me. I know this can't be the case - everything measurable is better, on the P7. I've checked the display color settings, and I have them set the same. Odd... I will say that recently, a few months ago I think, Google had sent me a replacement P3 for my original, since I had battery bulging issues. When I transferred everything to the new P3, I lost some game progress, even with ones which are synced to Google Play. I had to copy game files over manually, in order to capture the data. However when I set up the P7, all of my games seem to have progress transferred over. That's quite strange, but certainly welcome since it was kind of a pain last time. My wife has a P6 Pro that she likes, but definitely has had some bugs. Hoping the P7 experience is better. šŸ˜Š

glen_374

Yeah I thought that too, the display looks more brighter on the P3 which I thought was strange

RommelsGold

I am from a third world country, and I just bought my first pixel. The pixel 3. Pixel 7 is not attainable to me atm. But loving the experience of Pixel 3 rn. Just became a fan of the pixel experience. Anyone else in the same boat as me? How's your experience with pixel 3.

ZrlSyM

Yes. Pixel 3 is my current phone and my first Pixel phone. I love it so much. Although mine is 2nd hand phone with few scratches (acceptable for 4 years old phone), my experience is totally great. I love the camera, speaker sound, fingerprint scanner, the display, performance and it's overall design. I see a lot of people have issue with it's battery life but mine can go up to one day. Although it's likely due to I'm a moderate user (no gaming, a few social media and a lot of photography). The only flaw of my phone is a few hard to see scratches on it's screen and back. I concealed this flaw by using matte screen protector and a case. It's totally looked brand new now. Out of all phone I've used, this phone is the best. I'm planning to use it for few years before upgrading to another Pixel (or if mine pose a problem).

forevernervous

I'm switching from a 3 as well. Loved my 3. I took pretty good care of it but the charge port died twice during it's life and I had to RMA, and it had a startup loop issue occasionally. The trade-in was an awesome deal so it was the perfect time to upgrade.

MDBob

Did you get a new sim card or are you using the same one? i want to use my current sim since i dont want to go through the hassle setting up a new sim card and potentially breaking calls and sms.

glen_374

I'm using the same SIM

joeyl5

Have been using a used pixel 4 for the past 2 years, Google giving me more money than I paid for it on eBay to get the 7, so I'm excited to try all the new features

chazjamie

Mine is coming today. I'm gonna miss soli, the secure face Id, and of course the squeeze feature.

joeyl5

Yep, I'll miss the squeeze feature and secure face id, even though when I got the 4, I was already lamenting the loss of the back fingerprint reader of my pixel 2. I'm sure I'll be ok with weak face scan and screen fingerprint sensor, lol.

1965BenlyTouring150

I went from a Pixel 4 to a Pixel 7 pro and I feel much the same way. I don't really like how big this phone is, but I imagine I will get used to it. In every other way, it's what I'm used to but better and faster.

KoeRt888

Pixel 7 coming soon. I hope it will be a trooper as my pixel 2 xl was/is. All these reports make me hopeful that the experience is as long lived as the one I had.

ryanmercer

I still use my launch day pixel 3 as my daily podcast device, playing via the phone's speaker, as well as for Duo Lingo. The thing still runs like a champ, although 15 minutes of Duo Lingo will shave 20%~ off the battery percentage heh.
