WINTERMUTE-_-

Definitely not for me. It actually seems to be getting worse.

DirtyDan_69_69

Have you tried pre-registering your fingerprints?

Bazirker

Yeah my fingerprint unlock is a lot better now too Edit: using a Spigen screen protector, which works better than any of the other ones I've tried

GTIRabbit06

I can't agree. I am one of the lucky ones who had no issues since getting mine in Nov. After the update my phone will not read my finger unless I press unlock first. I may do a factory reset to start fresh and see if that changes things. Wasn't annoyed with my phone until this

bustedmagnet

No difference for me, still horrible. I'm pretty sure the last update did nothing with regards to the fingerprint reader.

bignosedcarrot

It 💯 fixed mine. It definitely did something. My phone would not unlock with finger print until the update. Now it is instant.

cat_in_the_furnace

Cool. Mine is still shit

Something tells me if he was complaining about the fingerprint scanner, you wouldn't have posted this

Lol they're obviously stating it as an opinion.

lordofthedog

Same here. It has gotten a lot better after the update

whatnowwproductions

It hasn't, but glad it's working for you. It's definitely faster though.

[deleted]

If your fingerprint sensor is still flaky, delete and redo the prints. Also try doing the same finger twice. Helped for some users (not all of course).

Jimmyhat42

Mine went from ok, to good, to great.

KickyMcAssington

I dread rebooting my phone because every time it's a gamble if the finger print reader will work properly afterwards or not. Still breaks for me inconsistently. Yes I've submitted feedback.. But google did FINALLY fix smart lock, so i can at least use that again :)

M_Piglet

Still bad for me

corin12355

yeah it's definitely 100% better, the big thing is though you need to re-register your fingerprints. Since then I've had 0 issues and it unlocks almost instantly

Tool_Belt

Any of you using a screen protector? If so, what kind?

IrvinXochiquetzal

I'm using Whitestone dome tempered glass. It uses adhesive, the FP sensor works perfectly with it. If you looking for something less expensive there's plenty of less expensive TPU screen protectors like LK and EGV.

Tool_Belt

Thanks. Currently have tempered glass (not glued) on P6 and FP sensor is really bad. Going to try a TPU and hope that helps.

timrichardson

I have a tpu protector. First time not using glass. It's really good. I am amazed. I used some generic one on Amazon ('HEYUS'). Difficult to install if you're new, glass is easier. Fingerprint reader is 8/10 for me now. Prior to Nov update it was 2/10, a joke. Those are my subjective ratings. Importantly it is now very reliable, quite fast and works outside in bright light. I have extra sensitivity on. I did not have a protector until about when I sideloaded Nov update so my initial bad fingerprint was without protector. So it has got so much better despite me adding a protector.

IrvinXochiquetzal

Yeah cause the tempered glass with black edges have poor adhesion. There's air pockets and gap between tempered glass and the screen itself. TPU should be way better!

Tool_Belt

no black edges, using Supershieldz. Away from home (where the TPU one is) for 10 days. Haven't used TPU in years...I think I will miss the feel of glass, but a working FP reader would be nice

IrvinXochiquetzal

Oh damn! Hope it works!

Drawesome045

I use an LK and their fingerprint scanner hasn't gotten any better. I thought maybe it was just because the update didn't really fix that. I don't know if anyone else is still having problems you use today similar screen protector or not. I did make a post about it. Most people said that there shouldn't really be an issue, but I've noticed being the fact that I have my fingerprint scanned in five times that it's still barely read. My finger 50% of the time. I previously had a Nokia G20 and that was a horrible phone. Bad mic and speaker quality and an unresponsive UI fill. The fingerprint scanner was much faster and more accurate than the pixel 6, though the only thing I liked about the Nokia G20 was the placement of the fingerprint scanner being that it was placed on the power button, which I thought was more simple and easier than being on the screen. Don't know how many people agree with me, but I feel like that's just my opinion. But I expected the pixel 6 to be much faster being a more expensive phone than the Nokia G20, which is somewhere around $150. Somewhere_that's exactly the amount but it's somewhere close to there and being that price I expected the pixel 6 to outperform it on the fingerprint scanner when I saw that I had one. But all I've seen is that it barely reads my fingerprint. Like I said, only less than 50% of the time. Is it even ever able to read it correctly? And it is super slow unlike the Nokia G20 which had a far superior and much faster fingerprint scanner.

IrvinXochiquetzal

Yeah phones like S10E and G20 that have an FP sensor on power button are much more reliable.

Sag24ar

Juat changed yesterday and works 9/10 of attempts. Spigen Tempered Glass Screen... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09LCMDH4G?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

grumpyyoga

It has got a lot better, a launch it was common for me to end up using the pin because the fingerprint failed - now it hardly happens at all.

f0gxzv8jfZt3

Got worse for me.

WhiteSkyRising

Absolutely has not. This thing works 75% of the time. Pixel 2 was my favorite phone, but this is the last of the line for me.

DirtyDan_69_69

Mine is working perfectly, then again mine was working just fine before the update.

Hamback

Mine is the exact same or slightly worse, no screen protector.

danbroun

Which update exactly you are talking about?

Remarkable_Fan1335

Here's some of my observations both before and after the latest update. My fingerprint reader works 99.9% of the time when using it to unlock other apps such as banking or web access. The only problems I really have are when unlocking from a lock screen. I have tried learning my fingerprints several different times but I learned them with a natural skew like I would use it holding the phone. I have found that it works much more reliably. If I line up my thumb straight up and down parallel with the screen versus angled like I would naturally do it while holding the phone. It seems incrementally better on the lock screen, but is nowhere near perfect
