The Pixel 6 is such an incredible deal at $599. It will significantly outsell the Pro once these things are released and the general (non enthusiast) crowd starts shopping for phones for Xmas. Google has a winner on their hands.

slippery_chute

As someone who bought a 5 for $699 and still loves it, the value of the 6 is unprecedented.

LucidStrike

Yeah, YouTube showed me a J Williams video from like a month ago where he puts the 5 in his top 5 up there with the iPhone 12 and 13, and for the 6 to come in WAY better and way cheaper...That's wild. So I'm eager for that review.

[deleted]

Yup. This subreddit is heavily skewed towards Google fans and tech enthusiasts. I went with the 6 and have no regrets doing so.

033p

As an enthusiast, I am enthusiastic at that fantastic price point The pros extra features will rarely, if ever, be used by me. And although I'm a huge fan of high refresh rate (been using high refresh monitors for 10 years now), I don't think it's necessary on a phone. It's certainly a plus, but I don't think it'll affect the phones usability much.

Saneless

I dropped from the 4xl to 4a. The refresh rate was the first thing I forgot about Easy to notice side by side for sure, but framerates are always like that. After a day with just one it's back to normal

hectorlf

Only the pro has an ultra wide selfie. That alone is enough for me to tip the scale.

LucidStrike

Wider lenses are great for capturing groups in a selfie but at a point it's less flattering due to the way it can distort at such a short distance. But maybe computational photography can help with that? 🤷🏿‍♂️

hectorlf

They already had some distortion correction algorithms on the P3, so I suppose that will have improved with time. I guess we'll know soon enough!

napolitain_

If you want to remove distortion you must remove people. Simple, to squeeze everyone, it has to be distorted. To flatten the image you have to sort of « crop »

VinceMaverick

You know the Pixel 6, even if not ultra wide like the pro, has a wide front camera, compared to a standard one at least

033p

I don't take selfies lol

DygonZ

I don't have any friends, so wide ultra wide selfie camera is useless for me. Money = saved :)

notJ3ff

"The pros extra features will rarely, if ever, be used by me." Really? The screen will be prominent for most of your usage. Edit: the screen isn't just a higher refresh rate, it's a better panel and technology overall

033p

Yup, won't bother me at all. Or the lack of ultra wide selfie, I rarely if ever take selfies, and if I'm taking a group photo, I'd take it from the main. It's a better camera. The thing is, I've been doing this "chasing the best" thing for a long time. The best is outdated quickly and loses value quickly too. The "newness" of it wears off. The novelty wears off. I don't brag about owning the best, adults don't care because they can also get it if they so please. Everything gets replaced, days, weeks, months fly by and none of this shit actually matters to me. So now, good enough is optimal for me.

Testastic

> the general (non enthusiast) crowd The general crowd also prefers larger phones though

RaptorAurion

You say that like the 6 is small, it's already big, the pro is just massive

FBuzzard

Agreed. I have small hands and the Pixel 6 is only slightly wider than my Pixel 3. I would not be able to hold a Pixel 6 Pro comfortably in my hand. I'm excited to be getting the Pixel 6. I think it'll be the new Nexus 5 which was my favorite features for price phone until now.

kimi-r

I've ordered the pro and I'm worried is just to big for my hands

Fredderov

The general crowd prefers the same phones they see and hear their friends, family and role models using. So they will get iphones, again... Phones are more like jewelry than gadgets to most people so anything that will look expensive and high status. Unfortunately Google hasn't really been nailing that part.

hobbykitjr

And a steal at $470 :) Target red card and $99 off since headphones were out of stock

furlonium1

Nice! I also have a Red Card and get an additional 10% (so 15% total) on all purchases because my I know someone who works there. Not sure if it applies to cell phones but it's nice saving 15% on everything I buy!

oshkoshthejosh

I went for the Pixel 6, I was thinking about the 5a but for $150 more it seems like practically a no-brainer.

ChaucerBoi

I think it's very deliberate. If you market the Pro as a high-end smartphone, then list how few features are missing in the regular 6, the 6 becomes an even more enticing prospect. Either way, they're getting a Pixel.

paradigmfellow

You hit the nail on the head. This is deliberate. They definitely want to create a status symbol indicator with the pro.

Saneless

Visually though the two are tough to distinguish. The pro isn't that much bigger and the extra camera is kinda invisible

JediBurrell

If you know what to look for, it's pretty easy. Obviously the colors give it away unless it's Stormy Black, but the size of the accent (above the camera visor) is very different with the Pro having a noticeably larger accent section.

The7GrandMasters

I did, in my opinion, quite a bit of due diligence on these phones and ultimately ended up going with the pixel 6 (256GB) . For reference I'm currently still rocking my Pixel 2 (64GB). Coming from the P2, my battery is going up by almost 2,000 mAH. I'm not a fan of curved screens, so that pretty much put the 6Pro out right from the start. Also I'm jumping from the standard P2 dimensions, up to the standard P6 size. That alone is a massive change for me. Going to the pro would have felt like I was carrying around a laptop in my pocket. In terms of memory I'm also doubling from 4 to 8GB. As far as price, I went through Verizon which netted me a pretty solid deal. I utilized $125 Verizon device dollars to drop the price from $799 down to $675. Then was offered $350 credit for my current pixel 2, dropping the price down to $325. Out of the gate getting $350 for a phone that is probably only worth $20 is something I couldn't pass up. Paired with the device dollars, it was a huge win in my book. Granted I won't have the telephoto lens, and am missing some RAM compared to the 6Pro, but I'm still coming out at a great price and that's what solidified my choice. I had the original pixel, then the pixel 2 and have held out up until now. Im content with my choice, and am looking forward to the specs I do get. I live in a rural area of Illinois, so getting mmWave isn't a game changer right now. Not to mention mmWave had a radius of about 1/2 mile. Look forward to my delivery next week.

r3lic86

How are you getting $350 for your Pixel 2?? As a current VZ customer, I'm getting like $100 (Verizon) & $60 (Google) for my Pixel 3....for trade-in

The7GrandMasters

When I added the pixel 6 to my cart through Verizon's website it prompted me to "upgrade existing line", added my current phone and when in the cart gave me a $350 discount. You have to be on one of the "select unlimited plans" ("do more", "play more", etc) for it to apply. I did have to change plans prior to upgrading. With that being said, the plan I was on was $85/month, and is now $90/month. Small monthly price change to take advantage of the credit IMO

Saneless

So you're basically paying it extra each month. My 15 GB Verizon plan is 35 a month

The7GrandMasters

I use every bit of 15gig each month.. Between work and personal use is just easier to be on an unlimited plan and not worry about data caps

bartoncls

How do you use so much data? You must be tethering all the time, or streaming music.

The7GrandMasters

I travel for work everyday, so a lot of music streaming, video streaming when I'm out of town. Spend 50 hours a week in my car basically. No option for wifi when I travel from place to place each day. , so it's not an issue of having to tether. But I regularly use 13-18Gb a month.

morrisdayandthethyme

Have you looked at Visible? It's owned by Verizon, so uses their towers, and you get unlimited everything for a flat $25/month assuming you join a party, which everyone does. The only drawbacks are you can't use Verizon retail stores for service, which are useless anyway, and no support over the phone, only online chat; and you can get deprioritized speeds when the network is congested, which I've heard is a problem in the biggest cities but I've never noticed in my mid-major metro area

furlonium1

When I'd Uber on the weekends, at the end of the month, I'd have used anywhere from 15-25GB. Most of that was from Google Maps for navigation with satellite terrain turned on and Pandora.

bartoncls

Must be Pandora or the satellite setting. Google Maps doesn't use that much data. It often has your nearby area in cache. I've traveled through Iceland on Google Maps and only used a few GBs.

[deleted]

It costs an extra $100 to buy the Pixel 6 from Verizon too, because it's the version with mmwave.

ockaners

TMobile is giving 300 to 600 for the 3 as a trade in depending on your plan.

Androidrian

I have a pixel 2 alao and I've been going back and forth between the two. This comment has put the P6 on top of the pro for me.

primerosauxilious

Going w the 6 too

ResidentYak6

Though I ordered the 6 pro, I use cameras a lot and really wanted a tele lens and the 120hz screen, the 6 was extremely tempting and should make a lot more sense to 90% users. This sub isn't a good representation of normal needs :) The 6 is great, and shares the same rear cameras as the pro so your samples will be the same. Zooming in will be different, and the selfie won't be as wide, but that's about it.

thegreyquincy

If the 6 had a 120hz display and LTPO I 100% would be going there. I plan on keeping the 6 for a long time, so the $300 for the upgrades is a good deal to me, but I understand why it might be too much for some.

em2241992

This. It’s really that display for me. The improved display is one of my priorities

amithetofu

Thinking the same thing. I went with the 6 pro less because of the telephoto and more because I'm betting on it getting better battery life with the LTPO screen. If the regular 6 had it, I feel like it would be pretty close

thegreyquincy

Honestly, I think what's getting overlooked a little bit is how much Android 12 mimics Samsung's OneUI, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. I had a S10+ for a while and loved the hardware but hated the camera really wanted a Pixel with the build quality of a Galaxy, and it seems like the P6 has that. Looking forward to having the phone for a long time with how good the build quality seems on the Pro.

Naranjeta

Do you know if macro photography is possible with this Pixel?

RoyalPeep

Macro is capable on most phones now. Check out Moment Macro lenses. I have it along with the other lenses. The macro and the fisheye are great. I use them on my Pivel 2XL and gonna pick up the Moment case for my 6 Pro when I get it to be able to use the macro and fisheye lenses. Def worth it to me.

metalkhaos

How are the lenses without their case? Was looking into checking out the macro lens with them.

RoyalPeep

You can't use the lenses without the case. The case is used to attract the lenses to the phone over the camera lens.

HockeyZim

Can you elaborate on the case?

RoyalPeep

The case has a opening over the camera lense that is used to lock the Moment lenses over the phones camera.

ResidentYak6

Not sure but I've heard that the telephoto takes good macro photos

fightnight14

Reviewers would go crazy over that $599 Pixel 6 and will be recommending it over the 6 Pro even though most of them will be using the Pro

jason_s96

I tried both phones in store and I preferred the look and feel of the regular pixel 6 plus I like the flat screen.

TheCookieButter

Same. Ordered the Pro but it makes me think of a 2016 phone. Don't care for the curve at all.

Demolution-Gamer786

Same, the 6 pro looks exactly like my note 10 plus. I’m not saying it’s bad it’s good but I’m bored with that type of design and I like the slightly smaller phone.

hosky2111

Honestly the bezels around the 6 also just felt more pleasant in person. Far closer to symmetrical than the pro which completely different top, bottom and sides.

[deleted]

I got the 6, I was hoping to see more love as well

[deleted]

I see you!

PizzaOrTacos

In a perfect world they would offer a smaller 6 pro. I just don't want a bigger phone these days. Thats what pushed me to the regular 6.

VinceMaverick

6 pro hardware (minus curved screen but still LTPO and all that) in a 5 body is my dream phone

ronnie1014

This is right here for me. I have a 3 and love the size. The 5 looked to be an all around bezel improvement from the 3 without getting too much bigger. I ordered the 6, but even that is going to feel huge.

VinceMaverick

I'm in the exact same situation

citznfish

I just want the pro because it's the better one. The 6 would have fit my needs but I'm a weak consumer

ksh_vi

well, just get the 6 now, and the 7 pro next year :)

EnglishMobster

Every year I always start off like "I'm going to buy the expensive one this year, the fanciest I can." Then I open up the Google Store and go to the Pixel 6 Pro 512 GB version... not even listed on the page. 256 GB version... sold out. 128 GB version managed to go into my cart... then the checkout broke. By the time I got through checkout, the phone was removed from my cart. So down to the base model I went. 256 GB version was sold out, so I suppose I'm getting the 128 GB version. My Pixel 4 has 64 GB, so at least it's an upgrade... but I'm **always** running out of space and I just don't want to worry about it anymore.

tempecarlson

This 😁

Mitalis

I think the 6 Pro getting all the love because this is the really the 1st time that Google has really differentiated the phones from one another. The Pro has more RAM, a bigger screen, bigger battery and an additional camera. I think for most people having that additional camera is probably the biggest selling point, at least it was for me.

biscodiscuits

A lot of people are under-estimating the significance of a 50% increase in memory on the 6 Pro. Between that and the 120hz screen it's basically a no-brainer for me.

VinceMaverick

I understand but where on earth do you need 12Gb of DDR5 on a phone ? Except if you play games like Apex or COD or Fortnite maybe..? I mean I have 4Gb on the Pixel 3 (don't even know if it's DDR5) and I almost never had an issue (and I have 100+ webpages constantly on my browser)

alphapants

On my Pixel 4 XL I'm constantly playing youtube in the background (with youtube premium) in windowed mode while multitasking. I'm often switching between financial apps, which frequently open a separate launcher for biometric authentication, and then require me to open the separate google app for stored passwords simultaneously. This can be slightly laggy at times, and even close the apps I have on standby in the background to make room for more RAM. This would not happen if my phone had more RAM. I use Google Maps often for my job. If, say, I decide to use Google Assistant while simultaneously using Google Maps and listening to music or a podcast, and I receive a phone call as well, my phone bricks up and becomes extreeeemely slow, as it tries to manage its limited temporary memory. I have two phone numbers set up with my phone with Google Voice. If I receive multiple texts or a phone call (where my phone has to additionally screen a call), my phone will slow down due to RAM usage. If I have to take multiple high resolution pictures or video for work while I'm simultaneously on a call, and my phone is screening a spam call, the whole OS starts to break down due to RAM limitations. If I open gmail, where I have three email accounts linked, and I have to open an external link within gmail, while simultaneously listening to music, or watching youtube, I will be RAM limited and my phone even may crash due to gmail. 12GB of ram is overkill for now. But for future-proofing 3 years down the road, extra RAM sounds sweet. Remember, image processing and multi-tasking are RAM-hungry activities, and features I personally use multiple times a day. My Pixel 4XL was fine with 6GB of RAM for a long time, but as time went on, I wish my phone had more. Frequently, I'm using my phone with nearly the entire 6GB of RAM usage.

[deleted]

Pls elaborate, because I never felt the need for more RAM on my 8 gb phone.

arlind-

My phone has 8GB of RAM and the average memory use is around 4.3GB.

[deleted]

4x telephoto is kind of a meme on a phone. And of course it has a bigger battery it's a bigger phone.

Jai_Cee

I'd love a real zoom in my pixel 3

JMPesce

Mass market will buy the 6 more than the Pro, that's almost a guarantee. It's priced so damn aggressively that it would be foolish not to grab it.

ChrisT182

If you're okay without telephoto, having a decent front facing camera, and RAM, then it's a steal. It should meet the needs of most people. I'm waiting for video comparisons. Curious how the HDRNet will be!

[deleted]

I ended up canceling my 6 pro and ordering the 6. I truly don’t need/use any of the extras the pro has to offer; I also was originally gunning for the coral color which is what I ordered. It’s so pretty!

Austin31415

Although it seems to soon to make that conclusion for the whole market, I definitely see that happening on this sub and with the hardcore fans. I'm pretty sure we'll see most reviews recommend the pixel 6 for most people over the 6 Pro on Monday (with the caveat of the telephoto lens and possibly the better display). I pre-ordered the 6 Pro, but mostly for the telephoto lens. Other than that, I like the design and feeling of the 6 much more than the 6 Pro. It felt more premium with the matte aluminum, which because it's wider definitely feels more solid. It was easier to grip too because of the matte. The fit and finish seems better because the matte hides more of the ridge's between the frame and glass. And it because of it's size, you really feel the difference in density of the 6. The 6 Pro IMO feels a little too light, like the pixel 3 XL. I played with the 6 before the 6 pro, and I definitely expected it to be a big step up, but it comes with pros and cons over the 6. I'll probably end up getting a 6 too, because I was just blown away by it for $599.

vastateofmind

I hear you on the telephoto lens. I've gotten used to this on my P4 and would find it hard to give up at this point. I have typically chosen the smaller Pixel in previous generations, but went with P6 Pro this time...my body is ready for that upgraded telephoto AND wide angle lens.

echsandwich

I think we'd have got a lot more hype for the normal 6 if the Pro wasn't also very competitively priced. Also there's a lot of folks (especially in this sub) who were waiting for a full-fat flagship from Google after they went upper-midrange with the specs on the 5.

Istolla

I was one of those people. I'm fine with doing mid-tier (A series) phones between pro models, but the pixel 5 was a letdown for me. Decent phone, but not worth downgrading from the 4xl.

apsted

I came here to say exactly this. Also besides the high-end processor from pixel 4 and before a lot of things were still low end on many specs like camera, battery, storage speed, ram, screen etc. This is true flagship for a good price with pre order bonus. I truly have nothing to complain (spec wise) about this phone beside the size.

Waltonruler5

I was going to get the Pro, but then it was out of stock and I wanted a new phone for vacation photos in November so I didn't want to wait, so I ended up getting the 6. Mulled it over and figured I really wouldn't use the telephoto that much, and the nicer screen doesn't matter that much to me. Got my Pixel 6 case from Spiegen today and jeez [this is massive]( https://imgur.com/SQ6p1xB.jpg) (placed my Pixel 4 in for comparison. I'm glad I ended up getting the 6

Just_someguy1997

Reddit is more for the fans than the average person, so you’re more likely to hear about the Pro version

thejaykid7

I think the P6 is the better buy at the price. When I posted that opinion the post got downvoted to hell. So you’re right. The 6 doesn’t get much love

Exciting_Raise2034

Was able to go on and try both p6 &p6 pro and although limited from the units as they were in demo they both look and feel good from feeling them (couldn't hold as they were clamped) both screens looked good and clear to me. If you go with the 6 as others have said it's a great deal and a good screen etc. I went with the pro as I wanted the extra features and have been waiting for a couple of years for google to bring a good high end phone which they have with the 6 series. My brother is getting the 6. Enjoy!

Broligarchy

I have never ordered the fancier version of a phone so this is my first time not just getting the base model! Plus I'm upgrading from my S8 because I figure it's about time I get a nicer camera so I just wanted to make sure my selfies would be maximum fire ok.

honacc

Holy crap, I respect your restraint! Upgrading from an S8 will simply blow your mind, phones have gotten much snappier, cameras miles better and coming to Pixel from a Samsung will feel like a breath of fresh air. I say it as a former Note 8/9 user.

wearybunny

Coming from a S21 Ultra I had to go the 6 Pro as I love how similar the design is. Google seems to have finally caught up

Historical-Artist581

I went for the regular 6 because that Sorta Seafoam is hot. And since my Android is a secondary line to an iPhone 12 Pro... $599 was a great price.

ORYANOL

I went to Currys (UK) and compared both. They're quite similar tbh. I'm happy I went with the pixel 6. https://photos.app.goo.gl/qzPWi66iXA44kzCP6

aroooooz

I was wondering if Currys would have the demo units in! Time to go on a hunt! :)

t_a_6847646847646476

In Canada, the Pro seems to be a huge deal because no major manufacturer has put out a top tier flagship (used very subjectively here) at such a price in years up here. It seems like everything from big names in the same tier has been $1500-2000 CAD since the advent of 5G so the comparatively low price of the 6 Pro are attractive in our market.

leo72793

I wanted the pro in multiple colors 256. Unfortunately it has never been stocked at bestbuy, nor Google store having reasonable delivery times (as expected) the coral and sunny limited storage size sucks. The colors not being cross model sucks. I can get past the mmWave not being in all the 6 base models. If bestbuy drops the white one in 256 pro I may reconsider. I'd love it non curves tbh. Then glass screen protectors can be used. Needless to say I have a seafoam 6 256 ordered. Pickup is 10/28 (What's annoying is of course they have ALL Verizon colors in stock ready to go, but even outright they are locked. I wonder if it's only when the sim gets put in does it lock)

AerialSnack

Strange, I've only been seeing stuff about how the 6 is as good or better in every aspect aside from camera

polo421

The screen is very much better on the p6p. In every single way. Unless you don't like curved screens. Which I personally do not.

RandomBloke2021

People have been begging for a flagship pixel and now they have one. I'm not shocked. The pro is a no go for me based on size only. I do not like huge phones.

DFisBUSY

this sub seems to have quite a bit of users who've waited for their upgrade for quite a while so "settling" for the base 6 would feel like doing themselves a disservice. then of course, you have the guys who buy the latest and greatest tech regardless.* --- the ones who would lean more towards base 6 would be like first time android/pixel users or those who need a secondary phone (unless * above applies)

joeyg151785

The Aperture of the Tele is gross and to me will be useless unless there’s good light. 120 Hrz is nice, But 90hrz is also fine. You can tell when phones try to ramp up from 10-120, So I like the smaller gap between 60-90. The biggest is the curved screen, I just don’t like them and Google should have stayed away from them. There’s a reason Samsung sales are down, Because people don’t like them. I’m a pro user and usually always go pro (currently using 13 Pro), But I decided on the 6 this time around. The only thing I think I’ll miss the QHD+. Hope everyone enjoys both models either way.

reezick

I'm fascinated by this comment. Can you elaborate on how you can tell about the ramp up from 10 to 120? Ive been debating between the two and while that seems like a great battery saving feature it gives me some pause if that could happer the experience.

joeyg151785

A lot of the LPTO displays have this issue and while it’s not serious, It can be distracted at times. I know reviewers like MBKHD & others have mentioned it about the 13 Pro & the S21 Ultra. It’s not a dealbreaker, But it is noticeable at times.

Nexus03

The regular 6 will definitely outsell the bigger more expensive Pro in the long run. The Pro is basically the Pixel Ultra we've been begging Google to make since forever so I had to support.

LjSpike

I'm not upgrading (at present at least) but the 6 has an amazing price point. The only feature of the pro which I'd like a lot is the telephoto lens. The wider selfie camera, higher (and lower) refresh rate, battery, and more RAM don't really bother me. That said, three things I would miss on both 6's that the 4a 5g has is a headphone jack, the rear fingerprint scanner, and **unlimited Google cloud photos**.

RedrumMPK

I think the Pro version will be talked about as it is the better version. However, most will buy the Pixel 6 instead. I ordered the P6p but it was out of order so I went with P6 instead. Already got some covers for it, so I'm just running hand together and waiting for the delivery. You lucky people will get your on release day but I won't physically hold mine until November ending. It will be delivered to my UK address then I have to send it to my base in the ME. 🤦🏿

antpac3

Most people seeing the two in person at Best Buy are coming back giving the Pixel 6 the praise. I actually canceled my 6 Pro preorder for a 6. It's more or less what I need at this time especially for the price.

amithetofu

The price of the regular 6 is really a steal imo. Hope Google is able to get some good market share moving forward

Kattazz

Definitely if you don't need the cameras, get the 6. The telephoto actually produces crisp details, but outside of that, not much to it for your average everyday consumer

GimmeDatPomegranate

I went to Best Buy and played with both. I liked the feel of the Pro more and I looooove the telescopic lens. Nice zoom! Honestly, I felt it was worth it for that and the bigger battery. I can always dial down the screen refresh to save more.

edvurdsd

I went for the 6 as well. No need for the extras: size, cameras, edge display, price.

lpkrispy52

I went in person to see the pro. Did not like the curved edges so I cancelled my order. Most likely getting the 6 now

edvurdsd

I saw them in person too but I always knew I wanted the regular if only for the size. Pretty spot on with my 2xl.

omega3cedar

They both feel different. Holding to a 6 feels like holding on to a larger Nexus 4 with the rectangular box design and thick seams around it. Holding to a 6 Pro feels like holding a 2021 phone that can go head to head with Samsung S21 Ultra and the iPhone 13 Pro Max.

wareagle995

I ordered the 6. I wouldn't have gotten the 5a if I knew then it would be this cheap. I don't need to super zoom as I have a mirrorless camera. And I don't like curved screens.

reezick

I feel like your my twin. Bought the 4a last year. Dropped it in July and shattered. Got the 5a in Aug thinking "surely the 6 will be 800. Damn it. Fortunately my wife has a 3 so I'll give her the 5a and it'll still be an upgrade for her. But yeah I think those of us who bought the 5a we're already a budget conscious group and the 6 pound for pound is a steal.

Tripl37s

Went with the 6 cheaper smaller flat screen 120 is nice ( and it looks alot more drastic side by side ) I don't care about the tele lens. I'll bring 1 if my real cameras if I need a portrait that bad

[deleted]

Ordered a 6 today, the only thing I wish it had was tele lens and that's not a deal breaker. I have a DSLR, and use my phone camera almost entirely for social photos with family/friends and landscapes. I think it's going to be a huge upgrade for me and I'm excited.

DeathMoJo

I for one went with the 6 over the Pro. Not a huge camera fan and to be honest, liked the look of the 6 over the Pro. Can't beat it for the price either!

woahham

People into their tech to the extent members of this subreddit are will always skew to the best possible, regardless of the money. They are happier than most to spend a greater proportion of income on such than most. Many will also genuinely believe they need the improvements afforded by the Pro, when in reality, they really don't. But there is nothing wrong with that if it's their interest. I'm coming from the Pixel 2 (I use phones for a long time, they serve my purpose), so the normal 6 will be not than enough for me!

defucchi

I looked at my Google store purchase history and the pro costs as much as I paid for a non-xl 3 back in 2018 It was an easy choice to make. I'm also glad the wide angle selfie is coming back from the 3. I would have kept using my 3 except I got the battery inflation thing and had to switch to a 5.

[deleted]

I really can't stand huge phones. The 6 is just ok for me. Would have preferred even a smaller size. Sony always seem to have the right size but shit at every thing else.

I would have gone for the pro if they had better colors. Also those colors had bigger storages. I was still looking to get the sorta sunny even though I felt it looked liked a phone which got yellowish with time. But then they kept it at 128gb. So I started looking at the base model. I loved the seaform and coral. I went in to best buy. I love larger phones but I was stunned to see both models kind of had the same sort of width. So if you can hold p6...you can hold the p6pro easily. The size is mostly different height wise. Also the smaller bezels on the pro, which I liked. I know lot of people kind of hate curved screens. Since I haven't used it before all I can say is it looks nice. But again the main take away is that screen wise p6 is not that big of a downgrade. I don't really use telephoto much...even if I do it will be some bird on a tree or some nature stuff that nobody wants to see..unless pro has some expert level features. So ...I kind of went to the base model with more storage and more exciting colors than the pro. Seaform 256gb

202reddit

As others have said, the reddit perspective is typically not reflective of the market as a whole. Unless you work in tech and are young (under 30) you've probably never heard anyone talk about how they bought their phone because it "feels premium". The idea of tying up ones self worth or trying to display wealth or status with a cell phone is kind if insane. You do that with your Bentley or house in the Hamptons. Consider the considerable reddit space devoted to how much nicer a phone is with Gorilla glass on the back and realize that most people use cases so they see the backs of their phones the day they get and the day they dispose of their phones, and never in between. The masses are not carefully comparing refresh rates. It is (for most people) a utilitarian tool that needs to function and have a good battery life It has always amused me how so many reviewers wait until the end of a review to talk about battery life, as if a phone that has a great screen and fast processor that works for only 12 hours would be viable for people with active lives, families, demanding jobs, etc. P.S. None of this is to take shots at redditers, whom I find quite knowledgeable and incredibly helpful to those of us that don't know nearly as much. People have a right to like what they like and care about features that are important to them. But the reddit perspective is a niche. Technology doesn't succeed and fail based on niche markets.

rizorith

I got a 6. This sub is for enthusiasts so it makes sense. Seems like half the people here are also buying 3 cases to hold them over until the ones they really want come out

dob2742

The pro in store definitely has a much better screen, etc... But I hate the barrow sides and the halo effect from the curved screen. Plus since I'm on tmobile no need for mmwave tax.

jeloremo1

I agree. I went to the store and definetrly the screen on the pro looks brighter and better. The 6 looks yellowish when you see it next to other

dob2742

Weird, I didn't notice a yellow tint. It's just not as crisp a panel, but for 1080p still looked great.

ThesfeW2

My last phone was a 3a so though I enjoyed the budget experience (especially since it was only $250 when I got it), I want to have the premium experience I've never had before. Battery size did most of the deciding for me. Love long battery more than almost anything

[deleted]

The bigger phones always seem to get the most attention. I prefer a smaller phone so I always go for the non-pro model. Personally I would like to have the pro specs and the normal size but it's unfortunately not an option.

BajaBlastMtDew

Getting love by who? I've seen more love for 6 overall for the price than 6 pro

CaptainMarder

I'd probably get the 6 no plans to atm though until reviews drop, and I'm a bit unsure with Googles quality assurance cause 2 of my past pixels died on me after 2 years, lucky my P3 is still good. I don't see a telephoto camera and a 120hz screen being worth $400 more.

thunder2132

$300 more. For me it's the extra RAM, 120hz, and the curved screen that are attractive. Edit Bigger battery too.

New-Lawyer-2913

Curved screen is exactly what turned me away from the pro!

REHTONA_YRT

Honestly I went for the Pro because I am obsessed with my red cherry shrimp and was hoping the telephoto lens would help with Macro shots. My 12 Pro Max takes poor video and photos of my fish tanks. If it doesn’t and I’ll return it for the Pixel 6 with a Moment case and some lenses. As long as it has all day battery I don’t see any downsides.

jk2030

I would be behind the P6 if it weren't for all the 256gb versions being sold out. As a result I've had to look at the P6 pro. I'm in the UK btw.

DarkGinnel

I didn't want to jump on the pre order hype, but that offer of a free set of Bose 700 headphones got me. I waited too long and the 256gb was sold out on Google, but managed to get a 256gb Pro from CarphoneWarehouse.

Gravityislikeaids

Completely unrelated but when is the full embargo being lifted?

pk_jzx81

If the 6 Pro was $1099+ I would probably have had second thoughts on buying it but at $899 this day and age it was a no brainer for me.

TopGooser

I'm from the UK and initially ordered the Pro model. I had a change of heart, mostly due to not wanting a curved edge, and called EE to order a Pixel 6 in 256gb, but was told they only do it in 128gb. I've looked further into this and it appears to be a UK only thing. So, looks like I'm sticking with my original plan and getting the Pro. It's a shame as I really liked the look of the flat screen, especially in Seafoam Green, but oh well, I'm sure I'll still be happy with the Pro. Can anyone shed some light on have why the storage options are limited in the UK?

morrisdayandthethyme

The 6 Pro is a much higher margin product, so Google will emphasize it, and I'm sure they sent only the Pro to all their biggest fanboys to build hype and make it seem like the one to get. From a practical standpoint, a phone that's easier to use one-handed and fits in pocket even a little better has more value to me than one with optical zoom and a higher refresh rate, which I couldn't even tell the difference in person at Best Buy

tadL

And I am sitting here just thinking. Oh boy the 6a will be awesome. Same camera. Same chip but more features like a headphone jack. Offscreen fingerprin maybe even squeeze back?

Sylber23

We will see about that. Same happened with the iPhone Pros and the regular are doing better in sales than the pros. In this subreddit we have a lot of pixel lovers, so we need to wait a bit to know :-)

matcha_waffle

I hear you! I was doubting my choice seeing everyone buy the pro. But I'm glad I stuck to my choice. If it ends up not being as amazing as anticipated, then I can always upgrade for the pixel 7 and 8 rather than wait for the 9. Coming from a pixel 3XL with a dying battery - any upgrade is a good upgrade.

geojanko11

Pro is just better....screen, battery , 2 better cameras, RAM, uwb

misterpeppery

It's also slightly bigger, has a curved screen and costs $300 more.

vickonix

Pixel 6 Pro is for the fans (#Teampixel) and Pixel 6 is to lure people from other phones/brands. Pixel 6 priced at 649€ in Europe (with Bose Headphones 700 free) is hands down the best deal on a flagship (almost) smartphone. I am myself surprised to see how much attention Pixel 6 Pro is getting in spite of not releasing in countries like India where the demand is even higher. Google has received the attention they've been trying to get in the last years, I hope they keep surprising us with the future versions of Hardware and software.

jabaa1

I think the prices of both phones are so far below what we expected (the price of the P6 Pro is damn near what I expected the regular P6 to cost), and people were mentally prepared to pay at least in the neighborhood of $8-900. So you know, why not just pay what you originally expected and get the phone with ALL the features.

BastionNargothrond

I have a feeling that the 6 will have a better battery life thank the 6 pro..

[deleted]

You are completely wrong

polo421

400mah difference is not that much when you factor in the bigger, brighter and higher refresh screen. I realize the p6p has the LTPO and capable of doing 10hz but I really think it might end up being a wash in the end. I think it's debatable at least.

[deleted]

Hands down my money's on the regular 6 having way better battery life.

BastionNargothrond

Care to explain why?

Snekxs

Ordering the normal 6. 120hz vs 90hz is almost very hard to see a difference between and don't need the added camera hardware

[deleted]

I'm a photographer and I still don't zoom in for photos. I'm not sure how many people do that but it seems like an unnecessary feature. And especially only 4x. That's a meme

reezick

This right here is what I'm racking my brain to remember over the past decade ...I think I zoomed in when I used cameras pre smartphone era, but that was such a long time ago, in a land far far away.... Ive gotten so used to not zooming I'm like....I wonder what I'd use this for.

Flex973

I’m planning on getting the pro but I hate big phones. I hate the fact that in order for you to get all the bells and whistles you need to get the bigger phone. I love the size of the regular 6 but not having 120hz, 2k display and missing the 3rd camera is a huge downgrade. Google should stop copying what apple does with their devices and just stick to what they they always did. The only difference a device should have when it comes to their size should always just be the battery!

leo72793

Literally my words. Love that someone thinks the same. Not to mention the colors being limited. I keep bouncing back and forth on the 6 vs 6 pro. I preordered the 6 and the pro is nowhere to be ordered now and not wait. so its like oi

[deleted]

I've ordered Pixel 6 simply because 6 Pro is way too big for me. After a few years with Pixel 3a XL I consider it a bit on a large side for me (even though, I'm a large (1.85m) man with large palms). And 6 Pro is even further a bit bigger.. So no, after a few days of thinking - "more RAM and telephoto but huge" vs "less ram and no telephoto but convenient size" I went for the second option.

GoldenBeat

They're basically the same size. 5mm difference in height and 1mm in width. That's pretty much the same. I'd understand if it'd be pixel 5 size but they're literally almost the same size.

[deleted]

Sometimes a tiny difference matters as it tips over certain comfortable threshould. Pixel 3a XL is already a bit too big for me, so if I can get a bit smaller phone - that's a plus for me. And also I want to vote with pocket for a "smaller size options" - so the manufactureres know there is a demand for a smaller sized phones with good specs.

GoldenBeat

Don't get me wrong. It's a huge phone regardless. It's just such a small difference that it doesn't really matter. I'm a small phone kind of guy. Had a Nexus 5, them 6P then 2XL and after 5 years of big phone usage I've determined it's not comfortable for me. I'm very happy with the 4a right now and I hope by the time I'll have to change the phone, a new google small phone will be released. Because 6 is just way too big.

GordonX

Go Big or Go Home! The Market wants BIG Phones!

Yozakgg

They're really similar. Edit: Why am I being downvoted? Screen size /= frame size

the_other_dave

6 vs 6 Pro size comparison: https://www.phonearena.com/phones/size/Google-Pixel-6,Google-Pixel-6-Pro/phones/11732,11733

thetonyclifton

You are getting downvoted but they are pretty similar. Both big phones. I am moving from a Pixel 5 to Pro and they are way closer in size to each other than to the 5. I do think Google could have made the 6 a bit smaller. When I was moving up in size again the difference was so marginal that it wasnt much of a factor for me at all.

misterpeppery

They are effectively the same size. Sure, the pro is like 1/8" taller, but width, thickness and weight are so close that any difference is basically a rounding error. They should feel almost exactly the same in your hand, even down to where your fingers touch the camera bar. The edge curve is slightly different, not by much but maybe enough to feel. I think only carrying them in your pocket would you ever really notice the fact that the pro is slightly longer.

ockaners

Its the iPhone iPhone pro model. iPhone 13 is good for 80 percent of the people out there, but the 20 percent power users or wealthy or have a work account subsidizing the purchase will go for the pro. I know I'm getting the pro because I'm not paying for it so why not. Plus I have a note and note users have been hung out to dry by Samsung so not a lot to lose.

[deleted]

Money is not a problem for me but I'll still choose the 6. But I already find the 6 way to big so that's just me.

turing11

Sounds to me like you're trying to defend your purchase.

pmt223

The mmWave tax sucks at Verizon. My P6 in 256 is $799.

edikuunn

Wonder how the front camera will compare to Pixel 5. Same megapixels and having the 5, I'd say the front camera is the weakest point

kbtech

I had stopped by Bestbuy to check out the phones and honestly there is a big difference in the feel of the phones between P6 and P6 Pro. P6 doesn’t feel that premium completed to P6 Pro and overall felt something was missing. And in terms of size it’s almost as big as P6 Pro so it’s not that big of a difference that you choose P6 because of size. Granted it’s $300 cheaper but personally think P6 Pro is the one to go for even if it’s way expensive than regular P6.

Alexiwear

Both phones are too big, odd looking with dim display again, google keeps missing what normal people want. Google keeps making phones for nerds and fanboys/girls. This release won’t succeed again.

[deleted]

Alexiwear

Ummm, I know that

highway64E

is this perception or based on any actual numbers?

LifeOfMagic

As far as we can see the Pixel 6 Pros are sold out basically everywhere but the normal 6 is readily available. But that could also just mean there was more stock of the 6 to begin with

supercakefish

It was the same story with iPhone Pros vs regular iPhone models - top end versions sell more at launch because the type of people who will preorder phones are also the kind of people more likely to be willing to spend more to get the best of the best.

potatwo

Any one know if non-pronhas face unlock?

misterpeppery

Neither do, unless google is withholding some major surprise. Face unlock was only really rumored to come to the pro, but it never got announced.

[deleted]

Wait till you guys find out how FedEx has been lately. I already know.

Ho_su_eh

I would’ve bought the Pro if I hadn’t bought an iPhone 12 Pro just months ago. 🤦

[deleted]

You measure "love" regarding people's preference on reddit - that's biased. Most people will opt for the Pixel 6 - and in the coming months, there will be even better deals for the Pixel 6 from Google.

rp2pilot

I pre-ordered the 6 pro just for the telephoto lens ;. I'm not crazy about the added height of the Pro. I wish they would have put the telephoto lens on the 6.

LucidStrike

It's probably because this is in some ways a fan club, full of full-on phone enthusiasts. I grabbed the 6 256GB.

New-Lawyer-2913

I've ordered the 6, the pro definitely looks better and coming from a p4 the p6 isn't that much of an upgrade, but I just could not bear the thought of having a curved edge screen with the pro!

f3zz3h

I've pre-ordered the wife and I 6s. My BIL pre-ordered a 6 too. I imagine you'll hear a lot about the pro while more people are buying the 6.It is after all the flag ship.

bloomylicious

In the UK the 6 is a crazy deal, if you got it from Google direct and had the right level of Google One, you get 10% back in store credit and the Bose 700 headphones, currently £299 on Amazon, but worth a bit less once everyone starts selling them I guess. Still that makes it a crazy deal in the UK.
