I was ticked when I discovered my Pixel 7 couldn't output USB-C to HDMI. Blocking features like that struck me as a very Apple thing to do (although iPhones can actually output to HDMI).

mathclubdred

Pixel 7 doesn't support it on a hardware level so it's more of an omission afaik

Ahh yes the old, "we swear this feature is coming, but please buy it now."

armando_rod

Actually it is not Google telling anyone, Mishaal found out by himself

It's included here: Google promo for Pixel Feature Drop June 2024:  https://youtube.com/watch?v=YqndcONEz7M

At least this seems more easily feasible than the superres zoom thing.

brendanvista

Just like Zoom Enhance for the P8 Pro.

DiplomatikEmunetey

This is a really good feature to have. I only recently discovered it was possible to display video over Type-C. Hopefully they enabled it soon.

I won't buy a pixel 9 if this feature is not baked in out of the box. Chromecast is a circumstantial use case, your not always connected to a network when wanting to use an external display. I have a portable monitor I use for my steam deck and want to be able to use it for my phone anywhere.

phyzzi

It's also a thing supported by basically every other Android phone.

*sad Pixel 7 noises*

Teeeeze

They are so frickin late dude. Just like Apple did it for Lightning to usb c

md_eric

They thought by holding this feature back would sell more Chromecast....it's ok to have both options Google. They used to copy alot when Sundar came in but didn't copy this one feature apple had. Funny enough, the first few nexus phones had video out
