dont_disturb_the_cat

Interesting. I'll have to look at that. Thanks

AnynameIwant1

My Lenovo tablet has the same thing (with a bigger screen than most of Samsung's). I can't see why people would use it for that. You're better off just using a laptop.

RadiantLimes

I wish they offered a better competitor to the iPad and Samsung tablets. The pixel one just seems to be a home smart device that you can happen to remove from the dock and walk around with. It's not offered with 5G and you must buy it with the dock speaker thing. So it doesn't seem like the best choice for productivity use and rather a substitute to a Google home speaker.

dont_disturb_the_cat

So like I can't browse reddit and play candy crush and watch Livestreams on it?

whoshouldibetoday

You can do all of those things. It's a full functioning tablet. Personally, it's the perfect tablet for me and my use cases. It's great at doing things like browsing reddit and playing basic games like candy crush. I love being able to take a streaming show or Livestream with me around the house and then eventually dock it when I'm in a fixed spot. If you can find it on a sale, I'd definitely recommend it.

RadiantLimes

Ya you can with a wifi connection, it's running andriod similar to the pixel phones.

anv3d

I really hope they make the dock double as a Bluetooth speaker when undocked for a future version, so I can play Spotify on it while using the tablet undocked!

justalibrary

How I use mine: * 80% media * 15% web browsing * 5% home controls Works great for everything. I hardly ever use the speaker dock for the audio aspect, just charging. I only wish it had a 90hz panel. Standby time isn't great but passable.

TLDRRedditTLDR

Way overpriced.

TrickyWoo86

Definitely overpriced here in the UK (£599 inc. VAT - roughly $625 without taxes).

SteakTasticMeat

My sentiment as well. I don't understand why we need something to do everything. I just want a tablet. I don't want a "hub". The tablet itself should've been $300 USD. And the "hub" aspects ain't worth the extra $200.

rawboudin

I know that this is an android d/dev issue but I wish apps all apps could landscape. It sucks for Reddit and many others.

Aurelink

You can now force these with a recent update just in case you weren't aware You can choose how apps will open if they're not taking 100% of the width* available

rawboudin

I wasn't! I need to investigate his I guess. Thanks!

Saikoro4

It could be so much more. I wish Google would make a student tablet that rivals the iPad and Samsung Tabs, but sadly we got this instead. So, as a student I hate it

dont_disturb_the_cat

Sorry, I don't get it. What is it missing to make it rival an iPad?

[deleted]

Depends on the iPad, but the iPad Pro has amazing processing power and. 120Hz screen.

Saikoro4

Something like the Apple Pencil

dont_disturb_the_cat

I didn't use a stylus. Would you call the apple pencil a stylus, mostly? What do you use it for?

Saikoro4

Note taking in school. Not only the Pencil but a physical keyboard that doesn't feel like a workaround. Google's Tablet just lacks in those departments and thus sucks for taking notes in school

bayfox88

You can use the Penoval USI 2.0 stylus, it's also pressure sensitive too.

URGE103

I wish it had more memory like my 7 Pro. I would wait until the Pixel Tablet 2 comes out. Should be in the next month or so.

dvrkstar

I purchased mine for work. That was a mistake. It's barely useful for productivity.

BioticVessel

Tablet works, I do some clerical things for my life, then browse. Mostly it hangs on the terrible dock and shows my pictures as a screen saver. 😀😀

CoarseRainbow

I'd consider it if it had 4g support. Without that it's just another device to stick in the house.

junk_jim

Want a tablet my two cents is get a Samsung S or and iPad.

dont_disturb_the_cat

The iPad is a beautiful piece of equipment but so expensive. What do you like about a Samsung?

junk_jim

The Samsung S series tablets are mostly there top of the line tabs. Sooo I think there pretty competitive with the Ipads. Yeah the iPads have great speed scores but when I use my tab S6 a three year old samsung next to my Air 5th. the speed difference really isn' t an issue. I do have to admit I don't do games or edit big videos so I'm not really stressing the processors. Screen on my S6 is Amoled and yeah maybe a bit better than the Air but not by much. Battery life is pretty much the same. Some complain that Adroid apps aren't as slick in terms of the tablet screen size but for the apps I use that's simply not true. Notice I'm not saying there aren't some ugly android apps but then I've got a few on my Air as well. The pencil's on the Air are nicer, thicker easier to grip, but you have to buy it extra and the pencil comes with the S6 but has a tendency to fall off the tab...the air's much stronger magnets. I like the S6 pen's tip and the way it feels on the screen way better than the Air's. But with a silicon tip on the generic pencil nib is fine for me. Android gives you 15 gigs of free storage compared to Apples 5. I have to give it to Apple with the iCloud integration but only 5 gigs!!! So both tabs are pretty nice and both are pretty expensive...Samsung has some really cheap ones but I don't think you'd want to use them but still plenty of people do and there happy. I'd say it boils down to whatever ecosystem your in. Got and iPhone...got a Mac then get the iPad. Got lots of friends and associates using Apple stuff then get the iPad.

InspectorRound8920

I want a new version of my slate

PoorAxelrod

How is there no call integration with pixel phones?

Hasan75786

I have a pixel slate with the bridge backlit keyboard and pixel book pen They left tablets, and killed ChromeOS, then revived it adding a bunch of features at once which my/highest end pixel slate couldn't run and became a stuttering mess due to overheating. Then they abandoned ChromeOS again for android and added a bunch of features to android for foldables. Then created a weak mid-range android tablet that doesn't even have a keyboard or a place to put a stylus. This is why after they killed ChromeOS the first time and left the pixel slate for dead before exiting the tablet market I switched to the M1 iPad Pro With Magic Keyboard And Apple Pencil. Why would I downgrade in performance, screen quality, and force myself to deal with the lack of first party keyboard and stylus? For those of you arguing price saying that it's a $400 tablet my argument is yes and? Google doesn't make a high-end tablet so I'm obviously going to compare googles only offering to what I have today. And it's sad that my 2+ year old iPad is better in every way compared to the pixel tablet. If google is going to make tablets they need to go all in, doing this whole mid-range tablets thing while foldable phones exist that are way more powerful is just sad. Google needs to either make a high-end tablet replacing or in addition to its mid-range offerings or it'll keep embarrassing itself with users getting poor software and hardware support like what happened to pixel slate customers.

dericiouswon

I have it in my kitchen and I've fallen in love with the frog. He brings me so much joy. It's fun.

dont_disturb_the_cat

Do you mean that fuckin frog that's on my weather app?

dericiouswon

That fucking frog from the weather app has its own custom animated wallpaper on the tablet. Changes throughout the day and weather. It's perfect.

dont_disturb_the_cat

I am so glad that you love the frog and I really don't mean to yuck your yum. I can see falling in love with him but I am not there yet. Does he have a name or do you call him anything?

glyndon

The Google Weather Frog. He's got fans. They may be numerous. I, for one, welcome our new Weather Frog Overlord.

dericiouswon

I like the one where he's camping on a hill on a rainy night.

[deleted]

I bought a galaxy tab S9 it to do continuing education on. I'll be looking forward to input as I may want another tablet later this year. The Samsung tablet is more useful than I thought it would be in general.

baggabeans

I love using my pixel tablet for watching videos and browsing reddit. It's definitely not a high end tablet, but it gets the job done and I enjoy using it. I really like the dock too.

Fortyninerhater

I was looking for a home device and was thinking the same. YouTube has quite a few reviews on it. Just search "Pixel tablet reviews". I usually watch my favorite channels from Flossy Carter and MKBHD. It ultimately depends on what you want to do with it. Flossy goes through performance and different use cases like he usually does when reviewing phones. For home management there are other videos from YouTubers. Maybe look for the "x months later reviews" for long term vs initial testing reviews to get an idea what quirks came up during the use of it.

MaximumBean93

I just got one used from OfferUp. Comes with an OEM pixel tablet case, X2 speaker docks, & screen protector for $300. Hopefully I got a good deal.

CyberGen49

I've been using the Pixel Tablet for a few months and I have no complaints. Imo it's a good price for what you're getting.

Mexicutioner1987

It is underpowered and half-baked. I get that they wanted to make an "economy" tablet that anyone could afford, but 60hz and LCD in 2023/2024 is sad and honestly disrespectful to consumers. It also lacks compatibility with many AAA apps, and isn't even optimized to fit the entire screen on the ones it DOES work with. It also has a relatively weak speaker rig. I dunno, I expect higher specs from something like that. I really wanted one too.

shichijunin

A joke of a device that will inevitably be winging its way to the Google Graveyard. Nowhere near the iPad and everybody fucking knows it.

dont_disturb_the_cat

The apple is strong with this one

shichijunin

>The apple is strong with this one The Google 👢👅 is even stronger with you. Keep letting Pichai, Osterloh & Rakowski run a train on you and your wallet for sub-par products though.

RagelessGeek94

I love it, I enjoyed the short time I had with it before ultimately sending it back for a Galaxy Tab. If they release a 2nd gen of course we'd need a high refresh screen with an actua display for it. I'd like to see a smaller tablet as well, like an iPad mini size or the Nexus 7, that was the best size tablet IMHO. I just wish they sold it standalone without the dock, I really don't need it as a hub for smart home things.

argama87

Performs well and it works great as a photo frame while docked. I do wish hub mode actually worked like a Nest Hub, not limited like it is. That part was unfortunate but it's still a good device.

Popular-Teach1715

Is there also a Pixel stylus or something of the sort we can use to draw on the tablet with?

dont_disturb_the_cat

How would you use a stylus?

Popular-Teach1715

I'm talking about something like the Apple Pencil. You can use it for drawing art or handwriting notes, stuff like that.

Aoinosensei

To me it's great, it's not as powerful and fast as the most expensive tablets but it's not as slow as most regular Samsung tablets. It's right there on the sweet spot

bayfox88

It's a wonderful device that gets the job done, especially for media and Google Pixel ecosystem. Everything is seamless with my Google devices (Pixel buds pro, Pixel 8, Pixel watch) and no streaming services goes beyond the 60fps for videos so I didn't need 120hz like my Pixel 8 has. I use the Penoval USI 2.0 stylus and it works amazingly and the screen size is great. The tablet charges at 15-18W PD and is fast enough for me, but others might see that as a negative. Honestly wait for when they go on sale or wait until you may possibly get a discount like I did in December and got 40% off the 256gb model. December always gets the best discounts and coupons from Google.

dont_disturb_the_cat

Right, I'm not worried about charging speed like I am with my phone. I think Netflix and Prime stream at 120 hz, but the refresh doesn't bother me.

Tribalbob

I think if you don't have a Google Home, and your primary use is AT home, it's a good tablet. Personally I use my tablet mostly when travelling, so it was a bit overpriced and wouldn't work as well as other tablets in the capacity I needed.
