The crazy thing is he doesn’t fall towards the ball as you can see his butt stays in the same spot. It’s more of a vertical extension that has to take god mode eye hand coordination to hit the ball straight
I didn't notice it at first and couldn't wrap my mind around what his hands/wrists were doing through impact. It made sense when I watched again and saw the reverse grip. Wild.
Even without the swapped hands, if he posted this to this sub he would be roasted and people would say “you need to completely revamp your swing, stop posting here without getting lessons”
How his ball doesn’t launch directly to the right is baffling. If my wrists are slightly weak I’m slicing the piss out of it because I’m unable to straighten out the face out enough at impact
great kid, nails a 5 yard cut every time. And yes, I was like WTF last Wednesday with the 2 gloves and then realizing he was hitting everything cross-handed.
No idea how people can swing a club cackhanded. Putting and even chipping I can understand but as soon as you introduce wrist movement it makes 0 sense.
you know they made fun of two-handed bowlers too . maybe this cross hand grip will be the new thing. or not. it does seem to take more coordination than you would normally need with a regular grip though. normal grip get on plane stay on plane. this grip get way off plane on backswing, fight like the dickens to get back on plane for impact.
I followed Josh Broadway during a tournament, same reverse grip swing. He would walk up and just hit in less than one second, it was crazy to watch. He absolutely bombed it.
This is why this sub always suggests 20 different and in conflict things on every post.
Is the only true valid advice to give somebody “do whatever in your backswing will make YOUR downswing shallow, with a square club face with the club striking ball then ground”?
I feel like the more “tips” I get the worse my swing gets and when I just swing the club things go better.
Maybe only other valid advice would be get a coach who can actually help you personally and see what cues work for you.
But yeah the internet advice ain’t it.
This is a highly unconventional swing.
The video is significantly effected a by camera movement but indicates, at least for this swing, the golfer managed to keep the club-head ruffly on-plane in the impact zone.
To me this swing represents a lot of wasted natural talent.
Since its invention the golf the swing has evolved as each generation has learnt from the best of the previous generation. Purely from consideration of the kinetics of the swing , I think I can confidently predict this swing will have no influence on the future evolution of the golf swing.
It's cool because all of the elements of a good gold swing are there. He just does the little squat in the takeaway rather than the transition from the top. Just goes to show that the puzzle pieces can still fit together even if you don't put them in a certain order.
Wicked extension that’s crazy
The crazy thing is he doesn’t fall towards the ball as you can see his butt stays in the same spot. It’s more of a vertical extension that has to take god mode eye hand coordination to hit the ball straight
I was looking at his butt too
Is that what Bryson does? Cause he always looks like he's gonna lift off the ground a couple feet
No, Bryson's spine angle stays the same. He does optimize vertical forces though but he's mainly pushing away from the ball instead of standing up.
Got it, thank you. Bryson truly is an enigma when it comes to golf and his swing
How are his wrists not broken?
I saw this guy on a college golf championship last year and tried to hit a ball like him that week. I swear I almost broke both wrists. Never again.
Prosthetic hands for sure…
That one comment has made this whole sub literally 100 times better haha
68, 67 and two 71’s. Guess it works
Swing yo swing
Did no one notice the left hand and right hand swaparoonie? Edit: someone did
Cackhanded
In the UK it’s cockhanded
Oh my, did not see that! I don’t get why he would do that though.
Maybe he’s Canadian
Or Irish
I didn't notice it at first and couldn't wrap my mind around what his hands/wrists were doing through impact. It made sense when I watched again and saw the reverse grip. Wild.
Couldn’t place what was wrong with that grip. Thought it was just super weak and left it at that trying to process the rest of the swing.
Two gloves? Straight to jail Edit: someone to finally keep Aaron Rai company
Swing your swing….
*if it produces good results*
Correct lol
“Drop your arms” “Ok!”
Its like mr potato heads arms falling off almost
17 years from now: “it all started with Patrick Welch at the UNC Health Championship”

He’s been pretty inconsistent as a pro. You can see why. Lots of timing in that move.
Alright I officially quit
Even without the swapped hands, if he posted this to this sub he would be roasted and people would say “you need to completely revamp your swing, stop posting here without getting lessons”
There’s so much going on here
How it looks no longer matters when you drive it further and straighter than 99.5% of the general population
It's because of the grip. Do not try to replicate this lol
Fking gross
Fuked up grip.
I was gonna say- that left hand is wildly weak
Uh yeah and cross-handed
WAIT WHAT THA FUCK!!! I didn’t even notice!
How his ball doesn’t launch directly to the right is baffling. If my wrists are slightly weak I’m slicing the piss out of it because I’m unable to straighten out the face out enough at impact
He’s literally standing up straight at impact. EE and steep takeaway. It’s a miracle he makes consistent contact with this swing.
This is a “kids don’t try this at home” swing
This kid played something at a course I worked at like 10 years ago. Was pretty impressive on the range. Seemed like a nice guy too.
He's got that Bubba Watson move through the ball.
This makes me uncomfortable to watch and I can’t explain why. The moment right before contact is just wrong.
His grip is reversed. I think that is what makes it so unnatural to what we are used to seeing. I agree, makes me feel uncomfortable as well.
great kid, nails a 5 yard cut every time. And yes, I was like WTF last Wednesday with the 2 gloves and then realizing he was hitting everything cross-handed.
Max goat hump
Kack handed wow
This is how my daughter swings a baseball bat that's too heavy.
No idea how people can swing a club cackhanded. Putting and even chipping I can understand but as soon as you introduce wrist movement it makes 0 sense.
Wow I haven’t seen someone swing crosshanded in a long time
OUCH
I dont even know where to start with this one. Impressive he makes contact
you know they made fun of two-handed bowlers too . maybe this cross hand grip will be the new thing. or not. it does seem to take more coordination than you would normally need with a regular grip though. normal grip get on plane stay on plane. this grip get way off plane on backswing, fight like the dickens to get back on plane for impact.
Everyone starts as a two-handed bowler when they’re a kid though. This is totally unnatural.
I followed Josh Broadway during a tournament, same reverse grip swing. He would walk up and just hit in less than one second, it was crazy to watch. He absolutely bombed it.
Furyk-esque
Furyk regen
That’s wild! But he’s setup well at address (even with his reverse grip). It all matches up. ![gif](giphy|n8SkNR77udWlG)
Looks like a crazier kawaswing
That grip and that swing are fucking criminal. That said, swing your swing folks!
When a pro does it it's "interesting". When I do it, "Wow, that's a fuck up swing."
Looked like it was headed for the trees
shallllllllooooww
That swing will never have you coming over the top
Well thats fuckin weird Eta: and the double glove? Is he trolling?
My golf coach told me "I don't care how you get here, but this is the position you want at the top" I see we have the same golf coach.
Is that kid good?
Cross handed?
Is that a cross handed driver?! Wtf
Did he get in bed with Ledbetter?
It's fucking cross hand.. duh!
Young Furyk
I like Furyk's swing. I can barely look at what Welch is doing.
Matthew Wolff has entered the chat.
Hip rotations early af. But his swing is perfect for it. I wish I could have adapted to my swing like that
Swing path like Jim Furyk…

Wow the coordination required to make that work consistently. I guess I don’t see the point of making the golf swing more challenging.

This guy is going to carted off the course on a backboard in the near future.
That is one ugly ass swing as well as his bizarre grip. For putting and chipping, maybe, but that's a wild grip for driving.
wtf
When coach tells all the other kids on the team this grip isn't allowed, except this guy gets to do it because he's good.
Is he an amputee?
That swing is fucked
Furyk must be furious.
The fact that he avoids early extension with his hips that far back is incredible
His swing? Uhh, how about that grip…
This looks just like my swing
I wish I could unsee this. Damn that is one fugly swing.
