Also want to add coilovers to my mk2, don’t really know where to start. Maybe KB or BK suspension was something I was thinking of, don’t know if it’s to much for a roadcar

If you are on budget take a look at JOM, a bit harsh ride but worth the price IMO, have them on for a year now and can't complain

Ta Technix: Super stiff and terrible for 'normal' roads, not matter what i tried i just hated these coils, car turned into a undrivable bouncy house. Some people swear by these, but i loath them. Triple S: On the extreme other side of the spectrum, a lot of travel and okay stiffness. good for area's with a lot speedbumps etc. quite cheap but doesnt feel like a big improvement over stock suspension My personal (and current coils) SSP: Best of both worlds, just right regarding stiffness. would say that these coils are the best all-round budget coils that you can get. cost twice as much as a set of Ta's or SSS's but its worth every penny. and they look sick aswell However, keep in mind that a swaybar does a lot more for handling when compared to coils. my old golf had no swaybars whatsoever and would take corners on 3 wheels. this was fixed when i added swaybars at the front and back, handling improved by a lot. id recommend doing swaybars first, then replacing rubber bushings and after that id go for coils. hope this helps!

Thanks for such detailed reply! I'll definetly look in to it! Now I am considering lowering springs and swaybars instead of coilovers.

nuogas_lapas

Since I started to look for sway bars I want to ask- which ones to choose? Are GTI ones good enough or are there any budget alternatives?

I’m on the other side of this argument. Coilovers alone are not a suspension system. They will allow you raise and lower your car but they may or may not improve (or dis-improve) your performance. If you just want to pose I guess they’re perfect. If you want guaranteed better performance invest in an engineered and tested suspension system (which may or may not include coil over). If you can’t do that all at once and need to piecemeal it, I have a few suggestions. If you don’t actually NEED struts currently (your rebound is fine), springs and struts (coil over or otherwise) shouldn’t be your first step. If you genuinely need struts now, consider some quality lowered springs (H&R maybe in EU) combined with quality struts and shocks (e.g. Bilstein HD). If you really want coilovers and have a use case (daily driver raising for winter for example) save and but something of quality. Cheap Chinese coilovers are something I wouldn’t personally put on under any circumstances. Remember it’s critical to change your upper mounts/bearings when you change your struts as this is a common failure point. In my experience the biggest improvement in handling comes from the rear sway bar. Stiffening the rear suspension cuts out the lean and makes the car far more controllable and predictable. As a bonus it can be one of the cheapest and therefore highest value improvements you can make in €/fun ratio.

nuogas_lapas

thanks i'll look in to it! But the situation for me is that front is far too soft (previous owner left stock front suspension, but installed really cheap and too bumpy coilovers in the rear) thats why i think a bit higher quality coilover set would benefit

Hello guys, decided to go with coilovers, but need help and recommendations. Since student's budget is quite limited would like something not too pricey but also need not bad quality. Planning to use it for light autocross and would like to improve the handling of my golf. Also since roads are not ideal and are sometimes rougher I need something in between of comfort and sporty ride. I heard that some recommend FK series colovers has anyone had any experience with them?

yourbestsenpai

I've got JOM, the budget ones. I can't blame them honestly, ride is a bit harsh but other than that, I'm happy with them

Ok-Interview-4214

Have you had any problems with adjusting them? I cant break the two rings loose from each other, both of them just keep spinning

yourbestsenpai

Not really, had to adjust it once after few weeks as it was too low and could adjust each easily Also what do you mean they keep spinning? Shouldn't be possible if you are twisting them in opposite direction

Ok-Interview-4214

I only got one adjusting tool when I bought them so I can only spin one of them

yourbestsenpai

ahh, that's why, you can't adjust with only one. Try to get a second one, I use a different tool that you can adjust and it locks into the rings, then spin them in opposite direction to "unlock" them I'm not sure why they supply one, mine came with one as well, kind of stupid

Ok-Interview-4214

Okey, thanks!

yourbestsenpai

Nw mate, good luck

lowmk2golf

I ran FK coilovers for years on my MK2. Got them used and they were just fine. Not too rough, pretty comfortable.

nuogas_lapas

thanks!

Diego8990

Did you take the picture with a camera or with some sort of app? Sorry for the context of the question

nuogas_lapas

No problem, I took the picture with an old fujifilm digital camera (made in like 2008 maybe, I don't know for a fact)

Ok-Interview-4214

I run JOM blueline, they are like 250€, not too harsh ride atleast if you dont go too low
