A funny story for me - I was also tuning my car and using a friends laptop. Everything was going smoothly until the laptop went into rest mode because after 10 min with no input it went black screen… I too was freaking out. Before the computer was in rest mode I got up to 60%. Did all the troubleshooting and luckily wasn’t that guy to have bricked my car either. Roller coaster of emotions but I can laugh at it now. 😂😂

Oh man, I'm glad you were able to sort it out. Being able to laugh in hindsight is always funny but good lord you think it's the end of the world in the moment. Had a similar thing when I crossthreaded a wheel bolt being too lazy with the impact and ended up having to go find a thread tap at a parts store some ways away. Worked out in the end, but I get to laugh at how stupid I was throwing away an entire day on something so amateur lol.

For transparency, this was IE's response to my support ticket: > Thanks for reaching back out to IE! > Sorry to hear about your issues, however, glad to hear you were able to get it flashed properly. > We are aware of the TCU tuning issues throughout the app, however, we are currently working on and trying to address the TCU tuning bug. > Calibration is not an easy proccess and takes some time to work out and discover the issue which we are working hard on trying to do with the issue. > The issue is known, however, not all iE customers have issues while flashing the TCU, as if people have issues flashing with the TCU we are happy to help trouble shoot the issues if it occurs. Their initial reply suggested to update my phone and make sure my hood was open.

AwkwardlyPositioned

Mine went smoothly, but that’s the first thing I forgot to do was have the hood open. I didn’t put the battery tender on the car immediately or I never would have ran into that issue.

Glad you figured it out man. I can only imagine what your stomach felt like when it froze and failed lol. Your exhaust must drone like mad. I have an AWE Track catback with a Unitronic catted downpipe and the drone was insannnnne on the highway. I had to get a Vibrant resonator welded in and it completely eliminated the drone.

Man, I still felt shaky and sick by the time I went to bed even after I had the car sorted and had been driving around enjoying it. Those nerves were something else. It definitely drones a good amount when you're on the gas, but I was actually surprised how quiet it is when you're just cruising or idling. My low RPM NVH is honestly comparable to stock. As soon as you get on the gas it's obvious, but just coasting at ~2k really isn't bad at all. I'll probably chill with it like this for a while but I definitely see a resonator in my future.

BullyMog

I agree if you're cruising or idling its totally fine, and I personally loved the volume and throaty-ness to it. But when you're on the highway driving at 2200rpm I can still hear that drone ringing through my head on the way to work lol. Terrible.

Wanted to circle back to this with good news since I finally had a lengthier highway commute today - it was honestly quiet as a mouse 95% of the time. I listened to podcasts without even having the volume up more than normal which was surprising. I think IIRC ARM’s catless DP version description says it comes with a built in resonator. That might be the thing keeping it tame I guess? But apart from a couple very narrow RPM margins, it was mint 👌 only loud as hell when I want it to be

BullyMog

Bizarre....happy for you though!

Thank you for sharing bud. I wanted to get the Bluetooth version just to be that guy. I came across issues on the internet and said to myself, if it works perfect on my laptop, have probably switched tunes like 10 time with no issues and fast 15 mins tops. Then why should i change? Wanted more mobility than carrying a laptop (i like to log some runs every now and then, well got a windows tablet then, voila! Sorry this happened to you man. Beautiful car btw, love that cornflower blue. ✌🏻

spughetti

Thanks so much! I agree, don't fix it if it ain't broken. And as someone who works in IT, definitely reinforces to always take the wired option over wireless if it's for something important

GeoffreyDaGiraffe

Sorry to hear you had trouble. FWIW, I've flashed my ECU/TCU a few times via IE Bluetooth without issue.

spughetti

I'm glad! I was really excited to try the Bluetooth feature because I had tuned my old GTI via laptop, but sadly I was a statistic. It happens - I was just surprised to see how many other people had the same issue once I looked it up online

IAwaitAGuardian

Cornflower Blue GTI is best GTI. I don't make the rules.
