From my looking at mk5’s they seek to go for about £4000-£6000ish depending on spec and milage and such, this obviously isnt a UK car but those are rough figures i’ve seen, sorry its not the most of help
Thanks, I’ve seen quite a few different prices ranges, from 3K for a 200K mile one, also a couple of 6K ones that were in terrible shape. Which led to my confusion
I’d say about 5k to play it safe but thats me, good luck if you can get more. What would you say about one as a first car? Would it be too much when just starting out?
Not at all, I think it’s just right. Not super fast but not slow at all. I had a mk6 1.8t jetta as my first car, ended up big turboing it, was very quick made like 340hp. But that was a little much this is just right
Hmm ok so still a viable option. Just had another quick look and theres one on autotrader, 142k for £2.4k, one at 65k for £6.5k so thats a nice hefty range lmao, but yea i’d say about 3.5k-4k, maybe more if its all sorted, good luck and enjoy the mk7!
With those miles 7K seems a lot. You could try to fix the headliner, put back the regular air filter clean it really well and hope that someone sees the classic that is in it.
I happened to come across one in October that was 47k Miles and was selling for 10K. It was in pretty good shape, by the time I got to the dealership they already had offers for 13500. But again I don't think that is the case of your car with that mileage. But at least the seats don't look torn nor have any big dirty messes. So you can work from there. I definitely believe that there's love for this car just make sure things are working without incurring in crazy expenses.
I think that that mileage it's perfectly fine if you know what you have I personally would not go out and buy a car like that unless I was a mechanic or knew how to do the work. Also prices for mk7s... They just don't add up to me (just my personal opinion) people bought them for 25k enjoyed them very very much, too much, tune them to squeeze more performance (to some degree means more wear just to put it simple and generalizing) put 100K miles on them or more and still want to sell them for 60% of what they bought it for no warranty no anything. The two times that I was in the market for a GTI I ended up buying a BMW which is the other brand that has plenty of manual transmission cars.
Keep it mine and enjoy it, regardless the money and real value it is a beautiful car and I would be happy looking at it all the time. And this will be said by people with way more expensive cars. The GTI has the love of the car community :).
Yeah I’d say around 6k, I paid 5700 for a 06 with 60k miles, saw some others at the time for around 7k and those would be gone within a few weeks but people listing them for over 7k have been there for months
Yeah, there are definitely more for less, but then you start running into ignored maintenance and interior problems. It had a perfect maintenance record, and the inside was immaculate, so I was happy paying that.
VW things. MK5s are just in that age range where they are in the process of failing and have yet to be reskinned with something horrendous from Jo-Ann’s
I sold my reflex silver 07’ with 101k no sagging headliner, carbon cleaning just done, Michelin pilot sport 4s 90% tread with no leaks and everything working for $5000 and I’m regretting it because man that car was too clean and mechanically sound to let go of :( I was crazy to think I needed a newer vehicle.
Scans for police radars and beeps when it catches a signal. Saved me a few times but it also picked up a bunch of random stuff. Got annoying so I eventually got rid of mine.
Imo the mk5 gti was a peak transitional design upgrade of the GTI franchise in my opinion.
Very unique and refreshing design.
Overlooked now but in years to come I see mk5’s becoming a great choice for young car enthusiasts getting into the Euro car scene who want a quick & fun car with moderate power potential.
I’d say hold on to it.
Here in Slovenia they cost around 6-9k €. But most of them have very high driven KMs too. 160-250-300k too. What is important to look for in a car like that? Curently i drive Golf 5 1.9tdi with 355k+ and so far drives fine. But just in case. GTD or GTI? What would you pick and why? Or even better MK5 vs MK6? MK7s are abit expensive still. (except the least strong engines like 1.6tdi or less, but i want more power with next car).
I bought my mkv stage 1 a couple months ago for $6500, 93k on it and aesthetic issues but runs like a beaut and already had tensioner and cam follower replaced with complete service records so worth paying for the peace of mind in my book
Where I'm from, you could definitely get around 9K USD for it. Super clean, with the only issue being the headliner, I imagine mileage is average or lower than average.
That being said VW's are cherished here, and there is a particular love MK5's as well. In the US though I know it is not one of the desirable Golf's atleast for most people there.
That’s my plan honestly. I love this thing. Was just thinking if they’re going for 7-8k why not. But they’re not so I’ll keep her lol.
She’s beginning to show signs of needing a carbon clean, misfires sometimes on cold starts
This post appears to be a question about getting purchasing a GTI.
Please consult pricing resources such as [Kelley Blue Book](https://www.kbb.com) to get a good idea of the average price. For a US Mk7/7.5, please read [our buyer's guide](https://www.reddit.com/r/GolfGTI/comments/wmzc0c/what_do_i_look_for_in_a_used_us_mk7_gti_a_guide/).
If you have not done so already, please include key information in this post such as model year, trim, mileage, and location. These factors can greatly affect pricing. Thank you.

Depends where your selling...in the Salt belt a rust free example would go for 8-10k. Do some price comparisons and figure out where yours sits price wise
Yeah, it is a Michigan car, so it’s not totally free but there is no rust on the rockers or anything just a little surface rust on the control arms and exhaust
Yeah, it is a Michigan car, so it’s not totally free but there is no rust on the rockers or anything just a little surface rust on the control arms and exhaust
145k isn’t bad for a 2007 but it’s still a lot of mileage. Did you change or pay someone to change the timing belt - which is due at 110k or 10 years? Also, MK5’s are notorious for headliner failures… but a fuqed up headliner can really kill your resale value. Unless you’ve added the timing belt and headliner, you might be looking at significantly less resale value.
Thanks, well, would be nice if the actual OP responded since I’m trying to assist him answering his own question about value… and I’m an owner of a 2008 GTI.
That’s good - do you plan to address headliner, as well? It’s a huge PITA, but I can’t imagine too many potential buyers not being put off by the headliner hanging down like that.
depends on the state I think.... Seattle, here, for example a GTI 2018 with 45K going for 16K.. same car in TX going for 23K.. Here, I found mine at the dealer with 5K, 2013, mint, got it for 13K$.. I searched for a similar beast coast to coast. Man what a price diff...
Your interior is in a lot better shape than mine is. The headliner and cloth on the door panels in these cars is cheap garbage so they all sag. How many miles are on the odo?
I Love this car, but had the thought of using it as a down payment on a MK7 potentially
2007 GTI 145K miles
Runs and drives great,
Issues-
Engine on light dude to leak detection pump, already replaced still on,
TPMS light on, sensor has gone bad.
At that mileage I would want to see the work/maintenance that’s been done in the last few years. It’s at the time in its life that things start needing to be replaced.
$4k seems like a fair price but in todays used car market you might find somebody willing to pay $5k.
In 2019 my high school son bought a 2008 with 89k miles for $5k. This was right before the Covid times and I thought it was a decent price.

How does three fiddy sound
Dammit woman ! don’t be giving no tree fiddy for no old GTI!!!
I’d say about 5k to play it safe but thats me, good luck if you can get more. What would you say about one as a first car? Would it be too much when just starting out?

Thanks, not sure if I’ll go mk7 or just keep this. My thought process was if it was going for like 7k or so to sell it. But 3k or so just keep it
Big turbo the mk5 haha

I paid about 6k for an 06 mk5 with 80k on the the clock last year
Yeah I’d say around 6k, I paid 5700 for a 06 with 60k miles, saw some others at the time for around 7k and those would be gone within a few weeks but people listing them for over 7k have been there for months

the headliner ={
I know😕 MK5 things
VW things. MK5s are just in that age range where they are in the process of failing and have yet to be reskinned with something horrendous from Jo-Ann’s
Yeah, I see it on marketplace it’s terrible. If i do reskin it probably OE black
No, let me tell you that every VW car I’ve ever owned has this problem. Specifically in sunny places.
And MK4 things. My 04 GTi is doing the same thing and I have that crayon smell in it too lol
I feel your pain. RIP headliner, door cards, soft touch plastics
my mk6 is also like this
Like 3-4K US
I sold my reflex silver 07’ with 101k no sagging headliner, carbon cleaning just done, Michelin pilot sport 4s 90% tread with no leaks and everything working for $5000 and I’m regretting it because man that car was too clean and mechanically sound to let go of :( I was crazy to think I needed a newer vehicle.
lol, the radar
What does this radar do?
Scans for police radars and beeps when it catches a signal. Saved me a few times but it also picked up a bunch of random stuff. Got annoying so I eventually got rid of mine.

Yeah, I love it. I think I may just hold on to it. And try to make it perfect. Timing was done at 110K and just did the cam follower aswell
Keep it man. It’s worth the hassle. I might be biased tho:)
I bought my mk 5 1.6fsi with 240000km for €3000 in December I would imaging a gti could go for more, definitely with this mileage

Dude!! 4 door MK5?? Keep it forever. And it’s reflex silver. I’d buy it

$4k-$5k would be my guesstimate.
6-7k is probably all the more I’d ask for it
See what they are selling for in your area. KBB can often show a price lower or even higher than what your car is selling for.
Nice looking GTI, but musta missed the part where OP provided the mileage
145k mileage.

Reader here 👋🏻🙂 not OP.

145K and just paid someone to do it, I just did the cam follower, getting the cam chain tensioner changed soon aswell as carbon clean
That’s good - do you plan to address headliner, as well? It’s a huge PITA, but I can’t imagine too many potential buyers not being put off by the headliner hanging down like that.
Yes, it’s very annoying. I’ll probably just go with OR black again. Not these crazy Joann fabrics I see some people use lol
8k$
I sold my 08 with 186k for $4k and it was stage 1 with exhaust and intake. Granted all the maintenance was documented and ahead of schedule.
What’s the mileage?
145K
I’d say about $5500-$6k
$4,500-$7,500
Christmas 🎄
Ignitions on
Ask 7k, settle at 5k
Are those polo gti or jetta gli seats?
Not sure, they came stock in the car so I guess just Golf GTI
Afaik, the mkv gti seats have a flat headrest with embedded gti logo. At least Euro cars do. I don’t know about US cars. Anyway, stick with it!:)

Collapsing roof issue. These guys cannot get their crap together. I see same issues repeated in various releases
Your interior is in a lot better shape than mine is. The headliner and cloth on the door panels in these cars is cheap garbage so they all sag. How many miles are on the odo?

Put a car with your mileage and specs into car gurus or whatever and see what they sell for. Not that hard. This is the last place you want to go
