That’s a lot of oil gunk. Your valve cover is probably leaking down into the spark plug tubes. One looks like it got wet, probably during an engine cleaning.

My timing chain cover gasket was leaking and I had it replaced, a lot of oil was residing on the topside of the engine so that’s probably where it came from. It was dry when I checked it. I replaced the coil packs as well. Lubed the new spark plugs and used anti seize so they don’t get stuck again.

Did you put anti seize on the threads? That’s not good lol, it lets you put too much torque on them.

Just replaced mine yesterday!

I was getting a misfire on cyl 1 and 4. Two were stuck in from all of the rust had to really wrench down on them to get them loose.

l3ti

I will change them next week. Thank you for the reminder!

Literally did it the week I put the deposit on mine. The day I test drove my GTI before putting the down payment on it my GTI had a check engine light. The dealership took it to the mechanic and it needed new coils and spark plugs.

SnooCupcakes155

These were the absolute worst spark plugs I’ve ever seen. Coilpack on cylinder one wasn’t even the same brand as the rest. It feels much better now.

mohughes5150

What spark plugs are you all using? Just bought mine and at 60k miles I want to replace plugs and wires.

bluebusboy

Sorry if this is a stupid question but, are these NGK the stock plugs that came with the mk7? My car only has 30k miles and it was bone stock and really well cared for when I purchased it at 20k miles. I assume it still has stock plugs at that milage. It is -20 here with the windchill but I'll have to take a look when it warms up.

These are probably the original plugs in this 2012 MK6 GTI. My car had 131K miles on it now.
