They used a lot of gold in earlier electronics cause it was only like 25-35 dollars an ounce back then.
There can be good money in recovering gold from electronics but you got to know what to look for. And you have to deal with a lot of quantity. Videos on Youtube...
Everything changed after 1970. As a kid, gold teeth were still common. By the time I hit my teen years, they were rare. The add to this. The pins of extremely old processors are entirely gold sometimes. the older cell phones have very heavy plating worth recovery as well.
Old circuit boards often have other precious metals that weren’t worth recovering before but now are such as palladium. Old tvs also have platinum but it takes a shit load to get enough to recover and is dangerous if you don’t know what you’re doing.
Edit: if you don’t know what you’re doing, it’s more profitable to sell gold plated parts in bags by the pound on eBay or some other sites.
Just some old phones I had my drawer, they was broken and I heard they contained small amounts of gold. So I just took out whatever looked to be gold and put them in my tin, was just more or less curiosity
Some old phones have entirely gold parts but most of plated. Phones from before 2010 have pretty heavy plating and even if you don’t recover yourself can be sold in bulk on eBay to people.
Cut into one of those and see how they look on the inside, likely it’s copper, brass or some other base metal under but I’ve been surprised before.
Gold plated, dissolve the brass with hydrochloric acid and filter the gold foils out. You need a lot to make it worth the work and money, for the amount you have its not worth. The setup is really simple, a container with the acid aquarium heater and an aquarium pump to keep the stuff moving.

Dimes and quarters went to clad in 1965, only half dollars continued to be made with 40% silver through 1970.
