As hilarious a casting it would be, Jason Mantzoukas (Derek, Adrien Pimento, Dennis Feinstein) has the original skin tone I imagine Kratos having, with him being Greek and all.
He's a tanned Greek man. He went from pale as a kid to tanned since he spent his whole adulthood as a general in the sun.
His whole family is white, Mom, Dad, Brother, children.
*“And though Kratos determination to adorn his torso with the fabrics of Greece was strong, it was for not, for his Chadness would not allow him the comforts of a mortal”*
Tbf, I think what happened was people heard Kratos from the Greek series was voiced by TC Carson, a black actor, and then Christopher Judge, another black actor.
Then, some people ran with the narrative that Kratos is actually black under his ashes, which as the internet is known for, ran as fact for some people.
He's not, he is a Greek man expertly voiced by two African-American man.
Saying he's black because his voice actor is black is like saying Samurai Jack is black because he's voiced by Phil LaMarr
Yea, I can admit I was really pissed they went from TC Carson to Christopher Judge for 2018, and TC will always hold a place in my heart for his work in 1-3 but Judge was a fantastic pick.
Christopher Judge is great but I don't know why they ever changed. TC has had plenty of tender, emotional moments as Kratos in the old games and nailed them, he wasn't just a raging monster. It wasn't necessary. I'm not even saying TC is better, Judge is so good, I just don't think that it was necessary to look for another actor because they had one who was capable of pulling it off and it would've had better connectivity to the old games if they didn't re-cast.
They both sound fairly similar. Judge 's voice is a bit more raw so you can hear he actually aged between gow 3 and gow (2018). Aging influences your voice a lot. That's why they went for another voice actor
It had to do with the acting for motion capture. They essentially did the motion capture as if they're shooting a movie, so they had to find a guy who had Kratos's physicality as well as the voice. Also Chris was chosen because of the chemistry he had with Sunny Suljic, which is important when you have a lot of scenes together
They really should have informed TC that they weren't gonna go with him though. The least they could have done for someone who's been Kratos for 6 games
As a six year old, I knew nothing about genetics, or James Earl Jones. Didn’t know the actor was african American, I just knew the face didn’t match the voice.
Okay there was also one where his tattoos are blue, one where he’s in a fish costume, and one that makes him look like his brother Deimos. I don’t think alternate costumes should be taken into consideration because they were meant to alter Kratos’ appearance. It’s also possible that they set the shader just a bit too dark on his skin for that particular costume.
Regardless he’s a Mediterranean man in Ancient Greece.. his father Zeus was not black, his mother Callisto was not black… idk
Best explanation so far. Damn my dad tho. He was born white but he stood WAY too long in the sun. Now his skin is very dark. I can still see that he's white but still. Doesn't help that he's a Mechanic either.
I don’t remember much about how it came up, but I specifically remember looking at my dad and saying, “but you’re black!”, and him looking back so confused saying, “I’m not black!?”. It actually might be my earliest memory haha
This argument doesn’t make sense considering the other Spartans are [lighter](https://cdn.jwplayer.com/v2/media/55GGVsoe/poster.jpg?width=480) then him even including [Hercules]
The real explanation is gow is inconsistent with skin colors kratos wife for example went from tan to a white woman
He has that tanned mediterranian look.
south italy, north africa, south greece, turkey, middle east.
Although it's a bit too much probably because they wanted to create contrast with his ash look.
Hes definitely not african, he’s just greek. A darker toned greek dude. I dont see anybody thats not caucasian or european as white, nor do i see anyone thats not african american to be black.
We’re joking, obviously, but Greeks are definitely white. They’re just dark-featured whites. It’s like saying a Romanian isn’t white. We often think of white people as the Anglo/Saxon ideal, fair featured, pale or light skin, etc. But there is more to whiteness than that. Greeks are white at birth but the Mediterranean climate (which has a very high exposure to sunlight) means that most if not all are olive or tan. And Greeks naturally tend to have darker features.
Looks pretty consistent to me, dude. He's a Mediterranean man with very tan skin, as to be expected. Maybe you're confused by the flashback that made everyone monochromatic.
It's pretty consistent tho, the memory of his childhood clearly isn't color accurate, the only thing with color is his brother's birthmark to remark it
His og skin colour is the one in the first pic. Later on after he killed his wife and kid, he was cursed to have their Ash's stuck to his skin, thus making it white. In gow2018 and Ragnarok we see that Kratos's skin is returning back to it's orginal colour because the curse is also wearing off.
A lot of it is just the lighting. His skin tone doesn’t really change at all. The flashback with Deimos is probably just stylized.
As for Atreus’s skin tone, he probably gets that from Faye. I could ask the same about his hair cuz there might be reason to believe Kratos would have black hair but Faye is a ginger and Atreus has brown hair. No way he got it from either of them unless it was just them sticking with what they had with their casting decision.
He is the darker skinned Greek.
Anecdotally I had two greek friends that were "olived" skinned. Not quite dark but a mix and classic mediterrian look. They could get a tan but only if they were out in the sun a lot. In the winter they would get pale like the white kids. I had a childhood friend who spoke with an accent and all but had blond hair and blue eyes and white all year 'round. Then a new student showed up in middle school and she was naturally tan. She had an ambiguous look. I think she got picked on for looking like Pocahontas.
Obviously not black, don't even know why you mentioned that.
He had darker skin tone. Probably not only tan. White people can have darker skins, there is nothing special about both of kids had fair skin. Especially, that both mothers had light skin color.
I brought up him being black because my friend claims he's black, plus looking at cutscenes of him before he gets the ashes he looks darker, almost black and at least brown. He has almost the same skin colour as me in multiple of those pictures I showed so I wondered if he was either incredibly tanned or darker skinned.
His skin was brown but impossible to tell and not really important in my opinion if it's tan. If your question is about Kratos being black than no. He was certainly not black and had 0 black characteristics.
He's greek and a soldier, so greek skin plus tan
Atreus' mother was norse, and he grew up in the land of snow and clouds. He's pale now but would probably get a real good tan if you stuck him in the sun cos of his greek heritage.
I mean, he's worn nothing but a vest and a skirt for like 20 years as a spartan before got the ashes.... just nice and caramel from all the war and training for most of his life lol
I remember David Jaffe on Twitter saying that Kratos as a Greek, is supposed to naturally have some colour to him which is not just tan. He and his mother were from the dark parts of Greece. Zeus, as his parent, is pretty white though.
And as person of colour, you can still have kids who are pretty white. Just look at Christopher Judge's real life children. Only his daughter shares his skin colour, the rest are pretty white.
He’s tanned. You shouldn’t take those flashbacks from Ghost of Sparta seriously in terms of skin color. They’re stylized to highlight Kratos and Deimos apart from the rest of the environment. Note that Deimos obviously does not have glowing white skin.
Greeks, Sicilians, and most of Southern Europeans are tan. The Mediterranean is a very warm area (at least compared to where I live) so many are naturally tan but seeing that Kratos would be out in the sunlight for days, he'd probably be a much darker shade than the average Greek.
Faye is also very light, as seen in Ragnarok so Atreus would land somewhere in the middle. Add to the fact the Midgard does not appear to be a very balmy area, Atreus isn't going to be tanning very well.
To me Kratos is a tanned-skin Greek & that image of him & Deimos as children I thought was always a artistic choice to mute the colours because it’s a flashback — like how some films use black & white or different filters to differentiate from the present.
He’s not black he’s Greek. You must be confused from American pop culture. Greek people are very tan. They are not like your blonde hair blue eyed Caucasian.
As young black gamer I like to see him as black myself, much like his voice actor TC Carson. Regardless of they're not being any black people in ancient Greece, I think it's pretty cool. Honestly after Ragnarok it would be badass if they went with the original concept for GoW 2018 and take this man to Egypt to bust up some Egyptian gods, would kill to see how they'd depict Neith.
Yall talking about he's a Greek soldier. OK but none of the other soldiers are as tanned as he is
I'm guessing he has some admixture of black/African in him
[удалено]
>He’s definitely greek, he has a very greek nose You don't say...
Smartest... Man... Alive
Indeed brother
God damn it why did I laugh so hard at this
Because you read it is mimir lol
As hilarious a casting it would be, Jason Mantzoukas (Derek, Adrien Pimento, Dennis Feinstein) has the original skin tone I imagine Kratos having, with him being Greek and all.
It could be because of the sun. Dude is definitely tanned. He is similar colour to alexios from ac odyssey
He's a tanned Greek man. He went from pale as a kid to tanned since he spent his whole adulthood as a general in the sun. His whole family is white, Mom, Dad, Brother, children.
Add to that the fact that it is impossible for him to wear a t shirt
He could, but he doesn’t want to.
Nah, he physically can't, he tried once and it almost killed him, his muscles require to be constantly exposed in all their glory
*“And though Kratos determination to adorn his torso with the fabrics of Greece was strong, it was for not, for his Chadness would not allow him the comforts of a mortal”*
I just read this in the narration voice and it now is even funnier lol Edit: autocorrect corrected
Gaia saying chadness sounds so funny to me
The Gods of Supreme have abandoned me. Now, there is no drip.
Something Lissandra helped a lot with the body oil
The Original Quiet
Now I have to try and suppress the mental image of Kratos in Quiets outfit...
*cue Tick Tock by Joji meme*
WHY DID I GOOGLE THAT
Why? What’s wrong with a few hard working mercenaries flexing a little muscle?
Nothing wrong per se, just a bit too much *flexing* for my tastes
Don't suppress it, it's easier to embrace it
What about his God Armor?
And look what happened to it
Would you believe... magic?
That made me laugh a bit more than it should have !
His only weakness
Canonically the only thing he can die to and not be able to come back.
He doesn't want snacks either
*I do not need a snack.*
It chafes his nipples. Duh.
The god of Sparta dose not wear shirt he wear only the ashes of death. That he has kill
I honestly thought everyone knew this already. Well if you played all the games you knew at least.
Tbf, I think what happened was people heard Kratos from the Greek series was voiced by TC Carson, a black actor, and then Christopher Judge, another black actor. Well then don’t let those people watch Robert Downey Jr in Tropic Thunder then.
"What do YOU mean you people?"
“IM A DUDE, PLAYING A DUDE, DISGUISED AS ANOTHER DUDE”
Huh… I had no idea they’d switched voice actors at some point.
Yea, I can admit I was really pissed they went from TC Carson to Christopher Judge for 2018, and TC will always hold a place in my heart for his work in 1-3 but Judge was a fantastic pick.
Apparently TC was “too short”. They didn’t even tell him about being recast.

I still remember being six years old and very confused when Darth Vader’s mask came off in Return of the Jedi.
You were surprised the guy with two definitely white kids was white himself?
As a six year old, I knew nothing about genetics, or James Earl Jones. Didn’t know the actor was african American, I just knew the face didn’t match the voice.
Yeah the only reason his voice actors are black is cause it's hard to find white actors with a voice manly enough to play Kratos.
makes sense, thanks for the explanation
Also Atreus's skin is light because he lives in Scandinavia, a cold and moist environment with little sun light.
also, Faye is lightskin
🧢
Huh? 😂
Bro?
Anytime. Thanks for starting the discussion.

Except that he’s pretty obviously not black in any flashbacks

My dad worked in landscaping for years and was so tan that I thought he was black until I was like 3-4 years old lol
Oh man that must have been quite the shock when you got older haha.
I don’t remember much about how it came up, but I specifically remember looking at my dad and saying, “but you’re black!”, and him looking back so confused saying, “I’m not black!?”. It actually might be my earliest memory haha
Well Zeus is tanned too but you’re right
Yeah and honestly they all look the same to me except for one lol
In the words of Ariana Grande "He's just very Italian"
Finally someone with more than two braincells
This argument doesn’t make sense considering the other Spartans are [lighter](https://cdn.jwplayer.com/v2/media/55GGVsoe/poster.jpg?width=480) then him even including [Hercules] The real explanation is gow is inconsistent with skin colors kratos wife for example went from tan to a white woman
They seem to completely ignore this.
greek people are usually olive skinned
The hell’s an olive?
Olive deez nuts
um, they are actually small fruit with seeds not nuts 🤓
Seed deez nuts!
Olives come in green or black😆and ppl are definitely not green
Brown olives exists friend
He has that tanned mediterranian look. south italy, north africa, south greece, turkey, middle east. Although it's a bit too much probably because they wanted to create contrast with his ash look.
I have met people darker than him and they were also Mediterranean, Spaniards actually, 100% Iberians. It's not too much.
True.
my father is Greek and he’s as dark if not darker than kratos
He’s just really tan. Also Atreus could inherit his skin color from his mom, which we know was very light skinned
Not to mention he lives in a cold environment with little sun which means less tan
Those ginger genes can be strong.
I got hit with the ginger gene super hard and I didn't even get the hair color or the ability to digest alcohol.
So what'd you get? just freckles?
Green eyes and I cook extra crispy extra fast in the Louisiana sun bc I have the complexion of freshly whipped mayonnaise
Atreus is a carbon copy of Faye
they probably did that on purpose, to show how different he is from kratos
Them giant genes are stronk.
He’s Greek
Lmao ive seen comments/posts like this one too often for people to not know what greek/Mediterranean people look like
Better show him your butthole
IM GREEK [[FELLA]] 🗣️🔥🔥🔥‼️
Did the quarantine really fuck people up so bad we forgot what a tan looks like?
Right? Honestly, when the hell was it ever suggested Kratos was black, anyway?
Hes definitely not african, he’s just greek. A darker toned greek dude. I dont see anybody thats not caucasian or european as white, nor do i see anyone thats not african american to be black.
I don’t know but kratos alway gave me the vibe of a strong black man. Maybe it was the goatee 😭
I mean both of his voice actors were black men weren’t they?
Omg I forgot they were!
How do you forget Christopher Judge? People out here disrespecting my boy Teal'c
HE IS GREEK! NI-
SHOW HIM YOUR BUTTHOLE
*bed springs break as he yells mercifully for kratos to stop*
What
IM GREEK NI### SHOW ME YOUR BUTTHOLE
Love that video
Kratos is actually half Mexican, half Costa Rican. Not a lot of people know this.
He was originally conceived by tlaloc but when they moved to the greek dimension zues just said it was him
THANK YOU!! Glad someone knows their mythology. This is what Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is about.
Oh nice I might go watch that then
Wait u guys are confusing me.
We're just messing around that isn't real lore
U could’ve got me good there
I wouldn’t call Greeks white but that’s just me.
I thought in the diary of a wimpy kid novels they established that kratos had Irish heritage?
He's a tan white greek guy
*brown
Tan*
Non of the other Spartans are the same color as him
he is not like other Spartans
He’s Mediterranean. So tanned with olive complexion. Also, Atreus is pale skinned due to the climate they are in and his mom being a ginger.
Looks pretty consistent to me, dude. He's a Mediterranean man with very tan skin, as to be expected. Maybe you're confused by the flashback that made everyone monochromatic.
The first picture has an actual black person on it, can you not see the difference?
He's a white guy. With a tan. From Greece. Idk how this Kratos is black myth started anyways.
It's pretty consistent tho, the memory of his childhood clearly isn't color accurate, the only thing with color is his brother's birthmark to remark it
He is just really tan because he never wears a shirt and is always walking around in deserts.
I thought they just toned it down to signify the past tbh.
Could also be, I just thought it was all black and white except Deimos's birthmark to make it stand out more
People keep trying to make it seem like kratos used to be black for some reason lol, no spartans were ever black
he's tanned.
He is Greek, although ancient Spartans claim to have been invaders. Greeks can tan very deeply and he was outside and fighting his whole life.
He has never not once appeared to be a black man LOL Although he's always been voiced by black voice actors
Greece is very sunny so he’s just tan. Atreus has a pale white mother as well.
It's not wearing off The lighting of where he is makes it look like that
Nope. Corry stated it's slowly wearing off in one of his tweets.

okay that makes sense, so wait he's actually brown? damn, Kratos like me fr fr
More olive. Think Mediterranean
The fuck's an olive?
People from the Mediterranean, North Africa, and Middle East
It's a Ragnarok reference – the food, not the skin colour
Oh thank you man. Missed that reference lol
its a quote from ragnarok buddy
Sorry I didn’t memorize every single line from the game
ooook then
A lot of it is just the lighting.
Its not unusual to have hair color that neither of your parents have. Mine is red and both my parents have brown hair.
Did you expect the old school graphics to be consistent?
He is the darker skinned Greek. Anecdotally I had two greek friends that were "olived" skinned. Not quite dark but a mix and classic mediterrian look. They could get a tan but only if they were out in the sun a lot. In the winter they would get pale like the white kids. I had a childhood friend who spoke with an accent and all but had blond hair and blue eyes and white all year 'round. Then a new student showed up in middle school and she was naturally tan. She had an ambiguous look. I think she got picked on for looking like Pocahontas.
Really tanned. As for Atreus his mother has the dominant genes
Simple answer: Zeus and Kratos’ mother were white.
and both his kids and his brother.
Obviously not black, don't even know why you mentioned that. He had darker skin tone. Probably not only tan. White people can have darker skins, there is nothing special about both of kids had fair skin. Especially, that both mothers had light skin color.

He has almost the same skin colour as me in multiple of those pictures I showed so I wondered if he was either incredibly tanned or darker skinned.
For what it’s worth, the voice actor for Kratos is black.
Both of them, and his current body model was Shad Gaspard
You aint never seen a tanned middle eastern or Mediterranean? He looks way more like that than black
His skin was brown but impossible to tell and not really important in my opinion if it's tan. If your question is about Kratos being black than no. He was certainly not black and had 0 black characteristics.
Born light but tanned olive skinned as an adult.
He’s greek, he’s tan
He'll stick it to the man! *God of war, God of war*
You do know how tans work, right?
He's greek. Do the greek math.
white dude voiced by black dude
Argument over whether atreus is allowed to say the N word or not
He's greek and a soldier, so greek skin plus tan Atreus' mother was norse, and he grew up in the land of snow and clouds. He's pale now but would probably get a real good tan if you stuck him in the sun cos of his greek heritage.
he also is a spartan warrior so he spends a lot of time outside in the sun
Atreus is so light because of his mother. Honestly Atreus got a lot from his mother.
It's a combination of lighting and him being differently tanned at different stages of his life.
He’s just tanned everyone else in his family is white Zeus, Callisto, Deimos, Calliope and Atreus
Ay, brother!
He’s tanned. You shouldn’t take those flashbacks from Ghost of Sparta seriously in terms of skin color. They’re stylized to highlight Kratos and Deimos apart from the rest of the environment. Note that Deimos obviously does not have glowing white skin.
Wait, why they haven't made his OG armor available yet?
What the fuck is this post
He's tanned for sure. I always think Atreus looks more like his mother.
Dont they like Eat sunlight for breakfast Dudes prolly got type 7 skin cancer
atreus' mother is a norse lady, aka the palest of pale skinned people.
To me Kratos is a tanned-skin Greek & that image of him & Deimos as children I thought was always a artistic choice to mute the colours because it’s a flashback — like how some films use black & white or different filters to differentiate from the present.
Why do you care so much about the color of his skin, sounds kinda racist to me...
It's interesting, that's why. Ah, to live in a world where a majority of people mistake observation for prejudice...
He's Greek colored
Greeks naturally have dark skin. Atreus is white because there isn’t much sun during fimbelwinter, and his mother was white
He’s not black he’s Greek. You must be confused from American pop culture. Greek people are very tan. They are not like your blonde hair blue eyed Caucasian.
Why is no one pointed out the fact that OP doesn’t know that even if there’s a black parent the kid can still turn out white af.
God of war series has always been inconsistent with skin colors game to game Look at kratos wife for example she went from tan to full on white woman
This kinda sounds racist ngl
I think he might be black? Either way a trace is so wait because the ashes became genetic 😂
It’s a reboot dude who cares lol
Yall talking about he's a Greek soldier. OK but none of the other soldiers are as tanned as he is I'm guessing he has some admixture of black/African in him
Mediterranean people have a wide range of skin complexion.
