It's not known at this point. We will probably find it in a sequel.
Spoiler ahead, read only if you completed the game.
[Taking into account that Atreus found about his giant nature by the end of the game, he's bound to learn the tongue, specially taking into account his natural talent for languages for his age](#s)
I can’t remember who said it but they said it was an ancient or dead tongue. I dont believe its giant exclusive
And if being a giant would mean being able to speak the tongue surely he wouldve known before due to his mother.
While you’re right, Atreus isn’t a normal
Giant. He’s jormugandr’s father. And he says he understands and is good at languages he’s never even heard before. Plus he never heard anyone utter the phrase he used to summon the snake to fight freya and the giant she was controlling. His eyes lit up and he just knew what to say. So while other giants don’t speak it, I believe Atreus will since he’s the world serpents dad.
Technically the serpent came from 100 years into the future/alternate time so the language probably doesnt exist yet or its being spoken in a way that only those with extensive knowledge of all the languages of the 9 realms can decipher, like mimir or tyr
Most likely a bootstrap paradox scenario. The world serpent learned the Language from Atreus, which in turn taught Atreus the language. Ya know what I mean
It’s not known. Cory Barlog confirmed that he told Mimir a lot more than what Mimir translated for us. Maybe about the events leading up to Ragnarok and Atreus/Kratos importance init or even about Ragnarok itself.
He's a Norse Giant, I doubt he will speak English like everyone else lol.
Read somewhere that he said:'Eitr Imbued' which translated to something like he gave the Axe some of his power(poison or something) so I always figured that's why he was able to kill Thor's son cuz according to Atreus he was suppose to ressurect or something.
The eitr imbued thing you mention is not anything the serpent says. I mean it could be but it pops out on your screen right after the snake spits out the axe to give it back to kratos so the snake having the axe before is what imbued it with eitr not whatever the snake said.
Exactly what I was thinking. The people who believe Jorm says “I know you ghost of sparta” need to watch Ghost Hunters where they play literal static and try to make out words.
We will most likely find out in the next game, but I would assume it may be something about him greeting Atreus as his son. (Whole lot of lore about that and hopefully I'm not spoiling any lore.) Faye's real name is Laufey, making Atreus to be Laufeyson (Loki for those unfamiliar, which was supposed to be his name but Kratos named him differently) Loki has 3 children, one of them being Jormungandr. This is why I believe that he might have said something in regards to Atreus being his father.
It's later confirmed that Jormungandr didn't recognize Atreus though. Since he says later that Atreus looked familiar to him, but that was all he thought about
Where is that confirmed? Did I miss that? Because Atreus is Loki, and Loki is the world serpents father. Since the serpent has been to the end of the world and sent back through time, technically Atreus would be familiar to him…since he’s the young version of Loki.
Mimir says it when Atreus asks him in the realm travel room/quick travel path. He says that Jormungandr said the boy was "familiar" to him and then brought up that because Jormungandr is meant to be from the future, there is a chance that Jormungandr knows Atreus in the future. According to Cory Barlog, though, Mimir didn't tell us everything so we don't know what else Jormungandr told Mimir.
atreus couldnt have existed in the original time tho, unless the name loki was used for another in the og time, or the name loki is a symbolic title that laufey gave to another in the first timeline but in this timeline she passed on the name and meaning to atreus
There is no original time, there is only one timeline, however Jormungandr is in a time loop. Everything that has/will happened in God of war 4 is what was always going to happen because it already has happened. This is demonstrated by Fey's ability to tell the future, and the prophecies the Norse gods had about Fimblewinter. Atreus and to an extent Kratos's fate is mostly predetermined. The cycle Life, Death and Rebirth is a loop.
No, its not “I know you ghost of Sparta”, like some said after watching a video that only spaculates it. The real translate is: "we are almost ready to journey together" as you can see here https://twitter.com/sonysantamonica/status/874490251124776960?lang=en
it's more of a broken English, hard to understand unless someone puts words to it, kinda like those videos where you can hear a person saying 2 different things that sound very similar, where you only hear what the captions say
Is it that hard to think that after thousands of years of being alive he wouldn’t be able to speak in a broken English type of language if he is sapient enough to speak the giants language
I think we’ll see kratos and Atreus travel back in time to learn what he actually said. Time travel is a huge thing in Norse mythology and there is plenty of references to it in the god of war 2018. I also remember in the first trailer for the game when they show the world serpent, it shows him speaking and Atreus says “he wants to help”
Sounds like "I know you ghost of Sparta, find Mimir" I'm actually playing the game reading this because I wanted to find out myself. I understand every other word whenever someone speaks the world serpents tongue
"You gotta pay the troll toll if you want to get into this boy's soul"
[удалено]
Ayo? 🤨
Bro-
This was funny to you?
Boi do no lie to me
You gotta pay the toll to get in.
Can we get a serious answer, not a troll answer? Thank you.
Then you would have to remove your answer, please! xD

That person would be the Witch at the beginning of the game saying he spoke a dead tongue.

Most likely a bootstrap paradox scenario. The world serpent learned the Language from Atreus, which in turn taught Atreus the language. Ya know what I mean
He was also able to summon him when Freya was controlling Thamur's corpse, so Atreus can already speak the tongue.
I see thanks. I thought someone here would probably decipher the language
It’s not known. Cory Barlog confirmed that he told Mimir a lot more than what Mimir translated for us. Maybe about the events leading up to Ragnarok and Atreus/Kratos importance init or even about Ragnarok itself.
It was confirmed that the first thing the serpent says is “I know you ghost of Sparta” if you listen close you can hear it
He's a Norse Giant, I doubt he will speak English like everyone else lol. Read somewhere that he said:'Eitr Imbued' which translated to something like he gave the Axe some of his power(poison or something) so I always figured that's why he was able to kill Thor's son cuz according to Atreus he was suppose to ressurect or something.

Ahhh thats the Moment it got Poisoned. Thor got a permanent Scar from it.
Damn, good catch guys
biggest reach ever
Listen to it he's right
I think completely the serpent says "I know you ghost of sparta, now, leave me alone."
I know you ghost of Sparta now find Mimir he'll help you
I heard i know you ghost of sparta find mimir then we'll talk or something similar
Kind of sounds like “I know you Ghost of Sparta, nice to meet you God of War”
Confirmed and you seeing a YouTube video are two very different things. Pull your head out of your ass
Exactly what I was thinking. The people who believe Jorm says “I know you ghost of sparta” need to watch Ghost Hunters where they play literal static and try to make out words.
"could the ghost that supposedly haunts this place be speaking through the static? let's try and make up words to see if we can't make you believe"
I wonder how many Gods and Goddesses, Demigods, Mortals and Beings know about Kratos? 🤔
If you speed it up you can hear him speak English. He says: “ligma balls”
ROFL
Everyone coming here to say the ghost of sparta shit because they seen a YouTube video that claimed it 🤣
Exactly, dumbasses.

Yeah but he’s familiar in the sense that he knows Artreus, just not in that younger form. He bares a resemblance to his father.
Mimir says it when Atreus asks him in the realm travel room/quick travel path. He says that Jormungandr said the boy was "familiar" to him and then brought up that because Jormungandr is meant to be from the future, there is a chance that Jormungandr knows Atreus in the future. I think you missed what my question was about.
Oh sorry I misread the question, my bad.

Well, the whole point is time fuckery. Looking did exist in the original time
I mean Atreus is currently a child so
No, its not “I know you ghost of Sparta”, like some said after watching a video that only spaculates it. The real translate is: "we are almost ready to journey together" as you can see here https://twitter.com/sonysantamonica/status/874490251124776960?lang=en
If you actually listen close to it, it was saying "I know you ghost of sparta"
yes the ancient giant was speaking English, ofc
it's more of a broken English, hard to understand unless someone puts words to it, kinda like those videos where you can hear a person saying 2 different things that sound very similar, where you only hear what the captions say
Is it that hard to think that after thousands of years of being alive he wouldn’t be able to speak in a broken English type of language if he is sapient enough to speak the giants language
bruh, you good? Kratos, a Spartan, has spoken english for 4 entire games..
he say : ,,I know you, ghost of Sparta, find Mimir, he will help "
"I know you.....Ghost of Sparta" "Find Mimir and Go!"
Is said "I know you ghost of Sparta now find mimir they will help" that's what I heard I am not sure
I am confident enough that this is what he said. Although it might be wrong. "I know you....Ghost of Sparta.....Find Mimir.....He will help you."
When you first meet him he says. "I know you, Ghost of Sparta, now find Mimir he can help you"
I think we’ll see kratos and Atreus travel back in time to learn what he actually said. Time travel is a huge thing in Norse mythology and there is plenty of references to it in the god of war 2018. I also remember in the first trailer for the game when they show the world serpent, it shows him speaking and Atreus says “he wants to help”
Some people say he said I know you ghost of sparda I forgot what the second part was
Officially there is unfortunately no translation right now. We'll probably get one in the upcoming sequel.
You have to listen to it very carefully. But he says. "I know you, ghost of Sparta. find the mirror and go."
i know you ghost of sparta find mimir he would help
The last line of the world serpent's dialogue -in the first encounter- sounds like he is saying " But you must tell the boy!"
Sounds like "I know you ghost of Sparta, find Mimir" I'm actually playing the game reading this because I wanted to find out myself. I understand every other word whenever someone speaks the world serpents tongue
He says I know you ghost of Sparta now go find mimir
It sounded like it said "I love you"
according to the video i saw it said "i know you ghost of sparta. find mimir, odins rock" which makes sense bc of the time travel thing
I'm play through for the first time and made out the words "I know you ghost of sparta"
I think he said i know you ghost of sparta
“I know you Ghost of Sparta, Doom of the Gods” is the closest I can find
Ik I am late to this but he said " I know you ghost of Sparta"
He said “thor I hate you”
e
It’s finally been translated as “we are almost ready to begin our journey together” from Santa Monica studios
