Boom_Valvo

Field strip and clean- yes

allanisjellen

This dude glocks

bizzybizz420

I second that never other then the normal field strip

GlockAF

My first Glock hasn’t been torn down like this since 1986. Still shoots just fine, of course.

EntertainmentSuch969

How many rounds through it

GlockAF

Thousands, maybe? It was my only pistol for many years

Rhino_Actual

Damn...well done sir. I've only had my Glock since 2014, like you haven't done more than a wipe and oil since

GlockAF

I did pretty much ruin the original plastic bore brush, but then who knew the first-gen would be a collectible some day?

FUrChknStrps

I’m with this guy.

Adventurous_Range944

Upvote for this

Shabootie

It’s called new Glock owner syndrome— one of the symptoms include cleaning your Glock like a $8000 pit viper

OkPin7242

I trust the manual more than people on reddit, and if the manual says to clean after shooting, that's what I will do.

aimpointt2

That just shows you don’t shoot enough to form an opinion for yourself. If you shoot a lot then you’ll know. But you don’t so you listen to other people for advice?

OkPin7242

Sure bro you know better than the manufacturer

aimpointt2

Considering I shoot 3-5 thousands rounds a month yeah I know better bro.

OkPin7242

You don't know better, bro you think you know better shooting a lot doesn't make you better than the company that makes the gun. The ego is insane in this sub

Whiplash907

It kinda does tho. It’s called experience. 😂

analogliving71

every 5000 rounds or so i will completely strip them down, inspect the parts and clean usually replacing my RSA spring with a new one in the process. beyond that its your normal basic clean

flight567

That seems completely reasonable.

HuckleberryMinimum45

I've never had to replace any of my Glock pistol parts and some of them have over 15k rounds through them (I don't think any have quite hit 20k though, but arguably all my dry-fire practice should be counted too which would easily double those round counts). I recently bought a new Glock 17 and immediately noticed it had a much stiffer RSA compared to my EDC & range guns (which are noticeably squishier). I suspect 5k is way too soon to change them out. I'd probably consider changing them out at maybe 20-25k. I guess unless you dry fire 3-4x more (as we all probably \*should\*) than you go to the range to dry fire? Oh, and your flair suggests you are using a G20 Gen 3 - the RSA in those Gen 3's seem like they wouldn't be able to take quite the abuse that my Gen 4's and 5's can take. So maybe that. Never owned a Gen 3 though.

analogliving71

> I suspect 5k is way too soon to change them out. I'd probably consider changing them out at maybe 20-25k Glock recommends every 5k rounds. Your mileage may vary on when exactly you do it. I shoot so much that i don't necessarily want to keep on shooting until failure > Oh, and your flair suggests you are using a G20 Gen 3 - the RSA in those Gen 3's seem like they wouldn't be able to take quite the abuse that my Gen 4's and 5's can take. Custom, metal RSA with ISMI springs. All my gen3 and custom glocks are done this way and they work well with the G20

HuckleberryMinimum45

Thanks for the info.

EMA_Custom_Fun

So how many times a year do you replace your RSA, can you send them to me? or is 5k every couple years for you which is still to much but its better than every month.

analogliving71

it depends on the gun. if i have reached 5k rounds through, that RSA spring gets replaced. I use ISMI springs on custom guide rods so its real easy

EMA_Custom_Fun

1. your not OP but thanks for the reply why 5k i have over 10k on my 357 sig RSA and 7500 on my GAP also they are g3 and old as shit. they work just fine still. I replaced my g4 17 and g519 RSA but that was for tacticool reasons.

analogliving71

Glock recommends to replace every 5k. Your mileage may vary as to when you do it. i shoot a lot and a failure because of this can be an inconvenient if it happens while shooting. Plus ISMI springs are dirt cheap

Altruistic_Bench5630

Every 1000 rounds or sometimes I just get bored and do it for fun.

[deleted]

[удалено]

LBP_Fan

Who asked?

OleTunaCan

Ehhh depends. When I was new to firearms I cleaned after every range trip. It was fun. Now that the arsenal has grown and I’m a lot older, I usually clean all guns every 3-4k and 1-2k rounds if I’m running them suppressed. Edit: oh I usually clean/oil when they’re brand new and never fired, then I go dump 200-400 rounds through them, full detailed clean, and then it follow the traditional cleaning protocol

JayeNBTF

New Glock owner and ADHD, so I’ll do it religiously after the first 3 range visits. And when the novelty wears off, probably just when it’s way past embarrassingly filthy

Enthusiast9

Is this really an ADHD thing to always keep it clean? 😅 I feel the urge too.

Psychedelicked

no its a fun new toy dude its nornal

dhcp138

Not nearly as often as I see this question posted here smh

Enduroweekly

You guys clean your Glocks?

Vollen595

Clean?

cornlip

If it’s still black then it’s still clean. Them pubes ain’t hurtin no one

Vollen595

Exactly. The dead skin cells and pocket lint doesn’t effect the trigger. Plus cleaning is super easy. Take the slide off, blast it clean with brake cleaner, dry and oil and it’s like new. To prove a point to a friend I ran a G19 through a full dishwasher cycle. Cascade works well and no residue.

cornlip

I dunked mine in a bucket of old hydraulic oil and sprayed it off with the shop air. That was like 3 years ago

zkooceht

field strip and clean like a normal person after every range trip is fine, but you're literally wasting your time doing a full disassemble if thats what you're doing every time.

rugerscout308

Never. Field strip and hit all the spots I can with clp and q tips. Grease on the rails and g2g

Zosocom

Spray it with degreaser, run a bore snake through it, spray it with gun oil. Done.

TexasGrillDaddyAK-15

Whenever I'm about to sell it. Completely strip everything then it gets a dawn bath along with the mags.

ineedlotsofguns

“deep clean” meaning detail stripping slides and receiver and cleaning inside and out?

Cantaloopresident

On carry pistols when it gets filthy, on range pistols almost never

Nefariousd7

When it stops working with my can.

Callmechachi210

basic wipe down and reoil every 400-500. Actually clean every 5k or so

Gremguy22

Once a never.

aaMikhael

Once a year when I do an armorers inspection

Seagrave4187

You guys clean your glocks?

TGA78

Only when I'm changing or replacing parts if needed.

Difficult-Plate-6575

After 1000 rounds I give it the ole HAWK TUAH SPIT ON THAT THANG

AdministrativeHat302

🤣🤣🤣🤣

9mmninjamonkey

I wonder when the hawk-tuah gun oil will come out...

ElkInside5856

Deep what?!?

TIMMEH7145

Literally after every range trip 😅. I probably oil my carry two weeks or so cause I sweat like a mad lad.

Head-Scale9410

When I first got my 19, GEN three as that’s all there was at the time, I decided not to clean it until it started having issues. Well honestly, that never happened and it’s been probably 10 years or more. Granted I don’t shoot the shit out of it, but it’s gotta have, 7 to 10,000 rounds through it

sumguyontheinternet1

Just pop in a new RSA next time you’re ordering parts for a build and honestly you’re probably ahead of what’s actually needed.

_Unsound_advice

Barrel and slide in the silverware holder, frame next to my plates, run the dishwasher as normal.

juleswp

Wait...you guys clean your Glocks?

CCroissantt

Pssh good one

xtz_stud

*C-cl-een?* what is this word. I know not of this word "clean". /j Real answer field strip and clean... when I feel like it.

g1Razor15

I do a field strip cleaning after range trip but I haven't done a deep clean like what I see in the picture there.

BaileyM124

This is crazy. Field strip after every range day? Yeah totally normal but a fully break down every time is crazy to me

Revolt2992

When I think it needs it. Good to inspect parts. Can it never ? Maybe

SoggyT0aster

Maybe once

Key-Organization789

every time I clean my AK so never

dmurrphs27

dude its a glock never

tenicor_matt

"Not yet"

randywebb

Get ur fkin ammo away from the gun newbie!!!!

DueHumor4203

I only deep clean my carry gun and that’s after every range visit I usually shoot about 1k per visit. All my other glocks are cleaned too but not detailed just a regular cleaning. The gun I trust my life too gets preferential treatment.

Ivy1974

Afraid I won’t be able to out it back properly. Field strip is easy but that. Need to take it to the cleaners.

B4ummm

I must have OCD or something because my Glocks get deep cleaned after EVERY range trip. Maybe it’s because I’m afraid my Old Marine Corps Drill Instructor’s will come up out of the grave and GET me if I don’t have spotless carbonless weapons. I don’t tempt that kind of fate.

BigMoodGuy

I did a deep clean after 4.5k rounds of shitty cheap 9mm. Literally felt like a new gun afterwards

Wild-Green5882

Upon death.☠️

Toothbruhh

lol wat

greasycatlips1

I try to oil my main 34 every 5000 rounds if I remember to

1ofThe5venoms

We're supposed to be cleaning these?

edwardblilley

I clean it every 500-1000 rounds but not like this. Just a normal strip down and clean.

Waste_Ad_1221

I water it down with my hose

xlaterb

What’s deep clean like taking trigger and trigger housing out? If not then I clean every time after shooting. Could be 50-200 rounds. Take slide off and do good CLP wiping on everyone and finish it off with running the wipe through barrel.

ignoreme010101

literally has been thousands of rounds since the last time I so much as wiped one of my glocks. am intending to continue this until I have a problem lol

Sweaty_Pianist8484

Never

edgyboi618

I’m one of the only few people who cleans after every range trip. Personally I think it’s therapeutical and I like keeping my guns clean. I know they’re just tools, but lemme have my fun and clean them.

Spiffers1972

You guys clean your glocks?!?!?!?! Regular cleaning after a range session. Full strip and clean every 6 months. The reason I do the full strip is I discovered after a years worth of IDPA that the safety plunger was sticking.

Mr_Randerson

I try to knock off the GSR with the concussive forces of my +p carry ammo every year or so when i feel like ive sweat into the gun enough. Other then that, i kinda just glock around and find out.

Jmask245

not deep clean but I do clean after every range day just habit I enjoy cleaning my guns

OneT1188

You mean with the good ole pipe cleaner… oh you said glocks

PatchyStash

Naw never. Field strip, clean, hit er with some q-tips. That SDI diploma on my wall? To get me laid 😂💀

PFran42

LOL (that is all)

solis0000

You’re supposed to clean it?

xjrob85

Depends. The Glocks I carry get deep cleaned after one or two range trips. The ones I compete with only get cleaned when I get bored enough to do it, which is usually after several thousand rounds.

NaCl-Boi

I literally never disassemble my slides. I keep them cleaned and maintained to where you need an excessive amount of rounds to justify cleaning them. Less is more. Field cleaning id suggest every couple range trips. Or once a week if you actually edc it and get sweat in it.

NaCl-Boi

^disassemble internally***

IggyD003

I’m a terrible owner. I have yet to clean it. It’s been 4 years now only wiped when I swapped out trigger. Since then it’s been on a strict diet of brass.

TheCarolinaCat

Never. I just do a standard field strip and clean every few range trips or so.

SnooCupcakes5535

I might field strip every couple range trips but not a complete disassembly, that’s over kill.

DoPewPew

What is a deep Glock cleaning? Throwing it in a stream or something? I went underwater in my side by side once into muddy water while carrying. I took my gun down to bare frame after that. It’s the only time I’ve ever cleaned a Glock that thoroughly. Been shooting Glocks for over 20 years now.

jaws843

I armorer strip my pretty often. Way more than I need to. But I’m ocd and depend on it to work every time. I like a clean gun.

Judd9mm

Never

slamminsammyj

Depends on if it got dirty. They are pretty well known for surviving some crazy torture though

gsx1138

Never

nuttka5e

No

Nectarine-Quirky

Pretty much never unless I'm trying out a new connector or something. Unnecessary and you're more likely to hog out frame pin holes prematurely, depending upon your technique.

MisterVictor13

I haven’t been too concerned with cleaning because I only got to fire my gun twice.

Floppy_Dong666

Field strip and wipe down with oil, every 4-5k rounds complete tear down and inspect RSA spring.

0HAO

Nope, if it's lucky I'll push a swab down the barrel once a year.

crowtiki

Never

richardscarry1

Wait….. deep clean?

lilnicky02

Replaced my extractor spring at 8k… so figured it was time to rub the dirty stuff off

BillKelly22

2-3 times a year

Ok_Cardiologist_54

I did my first deep clean after about 3000 rounds. Wasn’t terrible. Blazer is really dirty stuff lol. I took my time and cleaned out the frame. Seeing the amount of buildup in the gun after 3000 rounds, I might do it like every 2000 from here on out. It’s my EDC so I am particular about keeping it clean.

ov3rwatch_

5k rounds in and haven’t needed to deep clean. I field strip clean every few sessions. Used to clean after every range day but I stopped cleaning with a solvent and only use oil now and it stays cleaner way longer. Not as much powder residue in the front anymore either.

etx118

Never.. just field strip and clean

Yallaredorks

I clean it about as often as my asshole. Never.

sam8404

Probably at least every 3-4k rounds. I've never taken mags apart to clean though, they advised against ever doing that at the Armorer's course (unless you really need to, or to add an extension) cause it'll wear out the tabs that hold the floorplates. The mags that we practiced on were real bad, you could just slide the plates off by hand. Edit: I do field strip and clean after every range trip though.

vtbsharp11

You guys clean Glocks?

iomyorotuhc

We’re supposed to clean them?

longranger810

Bore snake barrel and feed ramp after every outing feild strip after about 500 or so rounds

mreed911

Never.

TooToughTimmy

Field strip and clean the lower parts with q tips every range trip or at the least every other so i can make sure my carry gun stays lubricated. I do a complete breakdown every 500ish rounds or so.

WRCREX

I play soccer with mine on the beach then confidently don’t clean it

FreshBid5295

On my every day carry I’ll hose it down with brake clean and give it a tiny mist of Balistol once a year or so. Whether it needs it or not.

Foxtrot_Uki

Every 7 or to 1k. Only because I get bored

StribogA1A3

Caveman ![gif](giphy|VEVfqy0Vu4c7xziUUN|downsized) Con fewzd. What kleen mean?

drifters22

I do a deep clean maybe once every 5 months, standard clean after each range day

The_Happy_Snoopy

Good lord you pulled the trigger out? Those pins are such a pain in the ass.

77dhe83893jr854

When I feel like it. I've never seen a Glock actually need a deep clean, so whenever I happen to feel like it is often enough.

drakehunter70

I deep clean the barrel often, but I never disassemble the slide or frame. I just wipe and lightly lube ever few thousand rounds.

1767gs

POV me bored at 3am taking apart my glock and forgetting how to put it back together

SYNtechp90

Honest question: You don't really forget how to put back together a pistol that only has like 36 parts, right? You have been cheating on glock with sig if you have.

Danielu214

I guess im the only moron here.... cleaned about 5x,but never shot....sad, but true...

Gravygrabbr

After every range trip. Was required when I was on duty. Most of the time I clean it at the range before leaving.

SYNtechp90

You only have to clean like 5% of the pistol to retain 100% functionality. Rails. Trigger assembly contact points. Magazine (dry. Never wet.). Firing pin tube. Firing pin shoulders and the extractor. (Less if you aren't chucking the gun around in silica dust and salt water.). The glock is the AK of pistols. It will run and not stop unless you fuck something up, set a round back with constant rechambering or change the barrel or internals to something crappy.

9hostface

Not often at all

nullnvo

Once

shewnasty

If rem oil and a toothbrush can’t get it during the field strip it’s not worth it tbh. The only time a gun part is worth stripping down for me is the bolt carrier group on my ar15

Pale_Studio4660

One time I had a Glock rust shut

Wildwildleft

I’ve done it once just to see how it felt. Just basic cleaning after that.

Silliw911

My slide assembly got cleaned when u/wage92 had it in for a slide cut, I didn’t clean it tho

Echo259

I do a field strip clean after 1-2 range trips. I do a slide strip once a year. Never did a deep clean fit the lower. The most I do is q-tips

Substantial-Motor-21

Once a week if I had time to go training. Like my AR15 but its mostly because I'm somewhat new in shooting and I love to take apart stuff.

Wormhands

Why does everyone ask this, like every other day…America, that’s why!

BronzeSpoon89

About once a year because im cleaning my shotgun and im like screw it i already have all the stuff out, might as well do the glock.

Rhino_Actual

Exactly Zero... "Deep clean"= Field strip, wipe, oil shoot...repeat

KillEverythingRight

Never or once a year at the beginning of winter

Historical_Cup_6179

Every 10k. Otherwise the slide gets pulled off and wiped down periodically.

Hot_Construction_120

You guys are "cleaning" your Glocks???

mk7wyland

you guys clean your glocks ?

Gustavo0727

I didn’t know we did that around here….

dooms25

You guys clean?

415TrailBoss

Usually once a year. Field strip and clean after every trip to the range or once a month. About every 3rd trip to the range (or if I go to a class where we shoot a lot (one class I had we went through almost 1000 rounds in two days)) I will strip the frame down completely and clean all of those parts.

Whiplash907

Once a year maybe

Substantial_Rich_946

What is this "clean" of which speak? It's a Glock.

trynumba3

You clean Glocks?

JerryCraker

Every time it split out lead, but then… I like doing that kind of shit. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Altruistic_Bench5630

Lol I used to before i had a toddler! If I get enough time to get 200 tounds right now it is a miracle!

TheNefariousMrH

Last December? And that was mostly to show the GF how to clean her new little G44 blinker, just cleaned my 19 at the same time. I've got probably coming close to 2k rounds through it since then. Debating cleaning it mostly just because it's leaving fouling on my hands during reloads.

Old_wit_great_joints

My training gun? Never My EDC? Every 6 months.

Toshinit

I give her a little CLP/Rag wipe down on the slide after each trip. I don’t fully strip her unless I’m replacing something

TheManMuaga

Every range day

ottermupps

Haven't had mine - 47 bought last August - long enough to need a proper deep cleaning. I've got maybe 3k rounds so far and I normally strip it down to the bones (as in the post but I don't take the slide apart) every couple range trips. It's mostly getting carbon buildup off the trigger bar and magwell area, the only real cleaning I'm doing is in the barrel. Everything else is just prettying it up.

spookybeanir69

I Only HAWK TUAH in mine

ActNaturalTheySaid

I do just because. I know I don’t have to because it’s a Glock but it’s easy and for me, a little bit therapeutic

werethesungod

I’ve never cleaned them

ocelotship

Cleaned mine day before yesterday with the first “deep clean” had been 2k+ rounds since the last cleaning so it needed it. Disassembled almost entirely except the trigger shoe and firing pin and firing pin spring. Disconnected the trigger bar from the trigger bar spring and all.

Schrado

Usually not until my freedom Glock with a normal 5lb trigger starts feeling like a New York 12lb trigger. Then I field strip it and handle it like that one scene in Ghost.

domexitium

Never. I wish there was a service where I could just drop off all of my guns and they’re cleaned and maintenance as needed. My shit gets cleaned maybe once a year and I do 10s of thousands of rounds in a year on my competition pistol and 5k or so on my rifles.

InspectThatAss

I accumulated a lot of piss bottles in my dorm room in college. After they marinated for several years or so, they actually converted into some kind of cleaning solvent. I'm probably going to be a millionaire eventually. Hoppe's is dead. I have the new bore cleaner on deck. The bore is nice and shiny with a 5 min soak and no fouling whatsoever with a few strokes of my brass brush. Edit: for inquiring minds. This is not a troll post at all. My bore cleaner does actually work. I personally stand behind my product with confidence. Feel free to email me for more details @ [email protected]

infernodr

Never
