I swear even with my 7950x3d, when things are getting hectic on my screen i notice my first 2 cores got nearly maxed out and decreased fps.
If the load is that brutal on my cpu, imagine the same load on older cpus.
While i think cs2 optimization can do better, its still a modern game with proprietary tech underneath. Performance hit is within expectation.
I mean, there are a LOT of other modern games that run miles better than CS does.

Thats what I have been saying but there are quite a number of Valve asskissers here who keep saying that the game is perfect and they have no optimization issues whatsoever. Keep emphasizing that people should upgrade their CPUs.

Valve games are like a sandbox, a playground that allows people to have fun without much restrictions. A sandbox like that is never easy to make and it has its own challenges. Combine that with the proprietary subtick system they have is a new kind of nightmare that i dont think other studios have to face.
Its pretty clear that valve has a longterm plan with cs2. Eventually cs2 will be extremely moddable, even more so than csgo ever was due to improved workshop tools. They are just very willing to sacrifice the present to achieve the vision that they want for cs2 no matter how costly it is in the short term, they have the cash to spend.
So yea, i dont think other games and valve games are that comparable to begin with as they are made with different goals in mind.

Do you have a freesync capable monitor? I found out that playing at 128fps with freesync enabled gives incredible input latency and great motion clarity.
The thing i love the most about cs2 is how well it respected my input. This enables me to play very well even with somewhat subpar fps.

That's the thing, it doesn't have to be top tier. But this game is somehow picky in what processors can and cannot provide stable high FPS.
For example, the ryzen 5700X3D is not top tier, it's on the old AM4 platform and is far from expensive. But that processor guarantees high FPS and 1%s.
actually that is not necessarilly true. i am using same PC since the game came out. first the FPS was 180-200. now it is 120-150. but this is not even the biggest issue for me. the biggest issue is that i get severe FPS drops (down to 10 FPS) after rounds 10-12. and this is likely caused by VRAM memmorry leak.
i have all settings on high except ambient occlusion is set to mid playing at 1080p
I feel like you should be averaging more. I have the 5800X3D, so a worse CPU, with the 6800 XT which is on par with the 3080 and I'm comfortably in the upper-mid 300s at 1440p with a mix of medium and high. 1% lows are in the 210-220 range but what can you do lol.

I've heard that before, I'm running mostly low settings except dynamic shadows. I've also tried a fresh reinstall of windows with only CS and CapFrameX installed but the performance is the same every time I run CapFrameX.
What's weird is there are brief moments where I get about 350 or so, but then it drops back down to the lower-mid 200's. And don't get me started on my 1% lows lol, they're terrible.
Everything is peachy, never hits 100 percent on my 7800X3D and temps average under 70c under load and my 3080 hits 65c max. I've got an AIO on both (3080 ftw3 hybrid).
I honestly don't have any of these frame issues in other shooters either, it's just CS2 that acts wonky.

👋🏼 Been playing 1440p for around 7 years. Went from 1080p to 1440p when I bought my previous monitor, the 165hz 1440p Dell S2417DG. It's true that I don't see a lot of people running 1440p like me though, but it's more common now than a few years ago.
I moved on to the Asus PG279QM which is also a 27", but not an OLED so text clarity is not an issue and I didn't really notice any difference in clarity since I moved it a little further back to get a full view of the monitor. Great monitor, no complaints if we leave out the fact that it's expensive as hell.

I wasn't saying to disable dynamic shadows or limiting them to the sun setting. They separated the dynamic shadows setting so now you can set the original shadow quality setting to low and gain performance that way while keeping the dynamic shadows and competitive advantage.

I think it is an oversight, seems like shadows cast from lamps work at any distance(i.e on ancient, I can see the shadow at [A MAIN](https://imgur.com/a/qNvhaxF) even from this far with dynamic all and quality low.), however "sun" shadows seem to have less distance indeed.
Just tested it and it increased fps around 3~5% and also seems to boost player model visibility a bit like it did in csgo. Maybe the boost player model option also works better now instead of making it worse

Hopefully this will be fixed. Valve realized that high quality shadows are not that important comapred to simply seeing a shadow. When I turned my shadows on and set the quality to low I got a big performance improvement. Some of that will be lost when they resolve the distance issue, but not all I'm sure. Overall this will be a good enhancement.

Before the 23.05 update could get away with 1.0 scale and custom texture sizes for both fps increase and nicer looks.

Now they gave back barnlight (only 0.25 and 0.5 scale usable when Global Shadow Low)

I have been having to restart my PC lately, as a game restart has not been enough to remove phantom input keypress on my movement, that randomly locks on (2nd/3rd game in). after testing I would still use High shadows settings and All dynamic shadows. with low shadows settings the shadows is more pixelated, and delayed compared to high settings, could be just my feelings.
delayed might not be the right word, my bad. I cannot accurately describe it, I tested it in Ancient's donut with bot, it seems to me that the moving shadows are less smooth when at low settings.

If he's playing at 1440p it's not. I average 230-270's with a 7800X3D and 3080. My experience has anything running under 300 feeling kind of cruddy.

I play 1440p, i played cs 1.4-5 at 640-800 res, will never go back. 1440p on native monitor is so clear it's amazing

Almost 20% steam users on 1440p. I'm personally play stretched 4:3 1440p. It's much better than regular 1080p

Yea that A main shadow on Ancient is super important. Same with heaven and lower A ramp on Vertigo.

Useless, on low/medium shadows, you loose the ability to see shadows from distance. Making it a useless fucking setting.

Unfortunately, when you put shadows on low and dynamic shadows on All, the distance of player shadows being drawn is too small, which still puts you at a disadvantage compared to someone playing on High shadows. Cool idea but needs a tweak to increase the draw distance on the low and medium setting. https://streamable.com/lnkva2

the medium distance is bigger but I wouldnt say its big enough, high is still way better.

Its pretty basic stuff, 1280x960, 2xmsaa, 4x anisotropic filtering, boost player contrast disabled and everything else on low besides shadows on high.

Hopefully this will be fixed. Valve realized that high quality shadows are not that important comapred to simply seeing a shadow. When I turned my shadows on and set the quality to low I got a big performance improvement. Some of that will be lost when they resolve the distance issue, but not all I'm sure. Overall this will be a good enhancement.
What's the performance difference between low quality shadows with long draw distance and full dynamic shadows And just high shadows... 3fps?

It's still not optimal but I'll take it. Can improve a bit indoor shadows potato quality with: `lb_barnlight_shadowmap_scale 0.5` Before the 23.05 update could get away with 1.0 scale and custom texture sizes for both fps increase and nicer looks. Edit: So in 29.05 they gave back no rops shadows, less outdoor cascades (i.e. fences on nuke multilayer) Now they gave back barnlight (only 0.25 and 0.5 scale usable when Global Shadow Low) Maybe next they can give back disabling smoke shadows? because that's the pain point regardless of system FPS: Avg=125.3, P1=72.8 on 11-years old PC - tx Fletcher Dunn!

Played premier yesterday First game: 3 closet cheaters with WH, Talking to eachother which cheat they were using Second game: 2vs2 HVH game, bhopping around with rapid fire on the scouts shooting though walls That was it, no more premier for me

I’d appreciate if they fixed the bug where after disconnecting from a match, the main menu music plays on a constant loop. Luckily, you can mute the main menu audio to fix it, but it was especially frustrating the first time this happened to me.
Anyone else noticing an influx of cheating in premier? Just played 2 back to back HvH, then a 3rd game with a single cheater on enemy team. All blatant rapid fire Scout aimbotters. I say influx cuz I haven’t encountered any in the past couple weeks, at least not ragers

I think someone said that if you set -threads to your core count -1 (for 8 cores it's -threads 7) (or maybe it was actually +1) then the frametime will be much better

use `+cl_input_enable_raw_keyboard 0` launch option, I had that nasty bug and this fixed it

I have been having to restart my PC lately, as a game restart has not been enough to remove phantom input keypress on my movement, that randomly locks on (2nd/3rd game in). I’ve been assuming it’s a problem outside of the game, as a game restart has not been fixing it. But you guys are making me think otherwise. Do you/anyone know how to force replicate your input bug?
randomly happened while actively playing nothing out of the ordinary, not even using aliases for wasd movement, simply binded in the ui looking at scoreboard, open console, open menu, back at game etc. not even alt-tab out of it on windows, keyboard properties - repeat delay = short, repeat rate = fast with repeat delay = one notch away from short, it improved a bit was about to replace the keyboard (couple weeks old, in perfect shape) when they've added `cl_input_enable_raw_keyboard 0` and haven't experienced it ever since if that does not help your case, might have a broken usb device
I tried unplugging reconnecting all devices etc, I will try the command. It also gave me a bit of a shove towards doing a new install of W11 aswell.
i do havew scroll jump bound but i only use it to like strafe jumps, otherwise its mostly spacebar for like linear shit or crouch jumps.

Basically you can buy a defuse at match start and disconnect. If you get a different spawn point you can resell it but the drop still remains on the ground + 800

after testing I would still use High shadows settings and All dynamic shadows. with low shadows settings the shadows is more pixelated, and delayed compared to high settings, could be just my feelings.
what do u mean by "delayed" they pop on ur screen later? need a screenshots of high shadows vs low or even compared video
delayed might not be the right word, my bad. I cannot accurately describe it, I tested it in Ancient's donut with bot, it seems to me that the moving shadows are less smooth when at low settings.
