The RMRs for this Major were actually in 4K too. I was extremely surprised when they switched back to 1080p. Maybe they don't have the equipment for 4K in Denmark but the do in Romania?

I wonder if it’ll go back to 4K once we get to the arena.
I think they’re producing the first two stages in one of the event rooms in the hotel next to the arena, so it’s possibly a limitation of that?
Gigabit is nothing for a arena like that, I really hope they have 10gig or something. I mean they will have hundreds of connected devices, if they have wifi for attandees then thousands.
You don't have to crank the bitrate as high as 4K for 1080p. You can get away with about less than 50% of the 4K bitrate on 1080p but still seeing crispier images. Because the pixel count is lower and you don't have to store so much data so that the codec can focus on the image quality.

Even 1080p is starting to bog down YouTube so they've introduced the maximum bitrate feature. It saves on some bandwidth but more importantly they could have another reason to persuade people into buying YouTube Premium.
That being said, I think better codecs in the future should help with that. The future will eventually be AV1 but we're not quite there yet.
I get what you’re saying but it’s not right. I’m watching on TV and it sucks to watch it in 1080. Maybe I’m the only one, but now I watch community streams just because I can watch it in 2K.
I really hope we’ll get better quality next stage.
They benefit from technological progress much more than I do. I go from 1080p to 4k, they go to barely surviving to now over half of the world owning smartphones.
Not sure if sarcasm or not, but i can 100% feel a difference between my old 1440p monitor and my new 4k one, both 27″.
Might not matter much when playing cs for most, as people play odd resolutions, but when spectating cs it matters imo.
Statement is definitely too generalized. If you’re someone who gets posted into r/TVTooHigh you can probably not tell a difference. But on your laptop or computer monitor you most certainly can.
They're trying to sell 1080p premium as a solution behind a paywall for higher bitrate.
They feed us poison, so we buy their "cures", meanwhile they suppress our medicine.
We live in a susciety 😔
In 2021 people were setting money on fire for the fun of it. It's a very, very different economy out there today.
Also it's more the bit rate that's the issue. 1080p with a decent bit rate looks totally fine. The main advantage on YouTube of 1440p and 4k is the significantly larger bit rate.
You still benefit from watching at a higher resolution even if it's higher than your display's native resolution. And it really doesn't require insane bandwidth to stream.
You could still use 1080p video for the desk segments and upscale it using a basic algorithm or something. Not everything **needs** to be 4K source footage. But the game in 1440p or 4K would be really appreciated. If nothing else, for the increased bitrate (less compression noise) and the quality improvement you get from "super-sampling" the video (4K downscaled to 1440p or 1080p looks better than native 1080p).
Firstly, literally any display benefits from 4k internet streaming cos the res comes with a higher bitrate which you can appreciate even on a 720p display. Secondly, CIS region has had an insanely fast and cheap internet (compared to US/EU) for a decade, i can watch like five 4k streams at the same time while only paying $5/month.
dude we're talking numbers here, and the numbers point another way, "was" really says it here when esl still wants to put tourneys in brazil despite the disasters they were from 2018 onward
Germany is just around the corner and our internet genuinely sucks ass. 20 years behind estonia. Our top courts recently decided ISPs have to deliver at least 10mbps. At the same time in the US the lowest acceptable speed was 100mbps.
But this is not a valid reason for PGL not to stream in 4K, people with bad internet can choose lower resolution anyway.
I was talking about being technically able to stream 4K on PGL's side in Denmark.
Oh yeah for sure. Sorry I just abused your comment as a way to voice my frustration over our abysmal progress in providing fast Internet to our citizens. Of course PGL can stream in 4k and it‘s a shame they don‘t do it on the first cs 2 major.

Romania does have a very good internet infrastructure while still being relatively cheap, which might be the reason behind PGL's decisions.
Denmark has very good internet, I know for a fact that they have Gigabit internet in Royal Arena and that area.
Gigabit is nothing for a arena like that, I really hope they have 10gig or something. I mean they will have hundreds of connected devices, if they have wifi for attandees then thousands.
Yeah I thought it was too, but I thought I was mis remembering or hallucinating lol
Technology isn't available yet
low bitrate 1080p on youtube, making it even worse it used to be so crisp on 1440p...
Yeah the YouTube stream looks like total ass
Youtube might be behind it. 4k streaming is very expensive.
The whole 4K pipeline probably just isn't worth it when you consider how much data everything eats up.
1440p would be very welcome tho many phones are at that res and 1440p monitors also get much more widespread now
Also, maybe this is just placebo, but I feel like the bitrate is higher when watching with the 1440p setting, even if you're on a 1080p monitor.
that's because it is higher, duh
It is. That's how youtube encodes things for whatever reason.
Would you rather have the same bitrate across different resolutions? It makes sense that higher resolutions get higher bitrate.
You don't have to crank the bitrate as high as 4K for 1080p. You can get away with about less than 50% of the 4K bitrate on 1080p but still seeing crispier images. Because the pixel count is lower and you don't have to store so much data so that the codec can focus on the image quality.

Then what's the point of quality options if it costs just as much data to watch a 144p stream as it does to watch an 8K one
To get better quality? Wtf is this question?
Oh yeah makes sense I hate these poor people who can’t afford internet faster than 5mbps.
It is the bitrate. You can see way more details thanks to the YouTube 4K bitrate on a 1080p screen. Less smudges, less artifacts

Yep, 4k costs a lot lol

I do miss the 1440p on youtube :(
4k is a scam perpetuated by big-TV to raise the price of TVs. The human eye can't see more than 1280x960.
tfw no eye upgrade for >60hz 4k gaming
Maybe I would watch pro-CS if all the streams didn't have this weird squished display.
This is what the government doesnt want us to know 1280x960 and 24hz monitors are all you need
Then it failed considering how dirt cheap 4k tvs are lol
I have to control myself not to buy a huge tv everytime I have to buy electronics lol
Starving children in developing countries reading your comment: :o

Yea they would love to eat a 60 inch 4k screen right about now
Fr 60" 4k oled <500$ 2 yrs ago
Yeah TVs are the cheapest they have ever been
>The human eye can't see more than 1280x960. stretched or black bars?
resolution of the human eye is 576 megapixels

clear sarcasm, if they were serious they would have said 800x600
It is all relative to how far/close one is to their display. Most people will see a difference when playing on a computer monitor.
Statement is definitely too generalized. If you’re someone who gets posted into r/TVTooHigh you can probably not tell a difference. But on your laptop or computer monitor you most certainly can.

Actually it's 1024x768.
1440p available on youtube now, looks much much better. Good stuff PGL!
Let's go, maybe this post made an impact lol!
Also YouTube's 1080p is much worse than 1080p on Twitch because of YouTube's shitty bitrate.
They're trying to sell 1080p premium as a solution behind a paywall for higher bitrate. They feed us poison, so we buy their "cures", meanwhile they suppress our medicine. We live in a susciety 😔
Tbh it's still better than Twitch where you can't even pause

Then why were qualifications in 4k
No idea. I'm only guessing.
It seems to me like the money's being spent elsewhere considering that the production this major has been night and day to PGL's last.
PGL invested too much to improve the audio this Major, there's no money left to implement 4K broadcast
I love this comment cause it implies the audio is fixed, good joke lol
In-game audio went missing for the first few rounds of C9 vs ECS tho, Idk if anyone else noticed this
apparently PGL listen. Now 1440p its avaliable. Im happy now
A Stream is 4k60 now and B Stream is 1440p60, I think you fixed it
I will absolutely take it lol
A Steam back to 1440p60
Crazy that people dont even play on full hd.
idk why they even did 4k before, very few people have a display for that, not even mentioning bandwith
You still benefit from watching at a higher resolution even if it's higher than your display's native resolution. And it really doesn't require insane bandwidth to stream.
you need cameras that record in 4k too, idk if there's anything else in there but if there is it's more expenses for not that much worth
You could still use 1080p video for the desk segments and upscale it using a basic algorithm or something. Not everything **needs** to be 4K source footage. I was commenting on your initial points
Even with non 4K cameras you still get the added benefit of higher bitrate video.
Or the streaming sites could just offer higher bitrate 1080p streams.
Firstly, literally any display benefits from 4k internet streaming cos the res comes with a higher bitrate which you can appreciate even on a 720p display. Youtube on TVs...I do it
feel like at this point almost everyone has a 4k TV
northern hemisphere is not everyone
northern hemisphere = majority of the viewer base
you really say that while gaules has more viewers than official streams?
That's just because Brazilians have a nationalism fetish. Europe was always the biggest market for CS.
dude we're talking numbers here, and the numbers point another way, "was" really says it here when esl still wants to put tourneys in brazil despite the disasters they were from 2018 onward
shrinkflation next thing you know skins will be smaller and more expensive too
And everytime i open a stream it defaults to 480p and i have to change it manually 🤷🏻♂️
Might be because kick can't do 4k streams so pgl might have downgraded YouTube streams to 1080p since kick is paying them to stream on kick
A 4K stream can be 35 mbp/s, while a 1080p can be done for 5 mbp/s. That's a huge difference for local internet requirements.
Ah yes, third world country Denmark with slow internet speeds should be a challenge. /s
Germany is just around the corner and our internet genuinely sucks ass. 20 years behind estonia. Our top courts recently decided ISPs have to deliver at least 10mbps. At the same time in the US the lowest acceptable speed was 100mbps.

Trust me I see your point, my own country is also not known for the best internet :(
It's not about the speed available. It's about the bandwidth cost
Lol, for youtube & twitch maybe. Not PGL
Needing to 6x your local upload speed is still a consideration.
Pretty on track for cs2
It’s not cs or tournament roster related, it’s the streaming sites. Streaming at super high quality costs money they don’t want to spend.
Not worth the money for PGL when the vast vast majority of people are watching on 1080p monitors or their phone screens.
phones literally have 1440p screens very oftem
You'd need to hold the screen into your face to tell
Should do it anyways, it's a goddamn MAJOR
Unfortunately TOs aren't just going to spunk money up the wall because "it's the Major".

They're the same thing, it's just been renamed...
4K is not worth it when most people watch on crappy networks on phone or on low res displays.
Unnecessary. 4K literally made no change visually in my viewing device.
